Some people will tell you only the most expensive shops sell the most fashionable clothes. Those who are creative, however, can make and find fashion wherever they damn well please. Today, Alice was using that creativity to find herself an outfit in a thrift store. Truly, the girl could easily afford better, but that'd leave less money to get fun things and when you're away at school, you've got to be choosy!
Presently, the blonde was looking over a rack of old belts, wondering very much if she could do something to stitch a few of them into a good set of suspenders. When out of uniform, Alice had a unique taste in clothes and suspenders were something she just HAD TO HAVE lately! Which obviously meant time to get artsy, since they weren't the most popular item.

Ayr had never been one who suffered from a lack of wealth, he'd come from a prestigious family and had wanted for nothing. However, throughout his upbringing his parents had been determined to keep him 'grounded' and as a consequence this particular gentleman had learnt the value of money very quickly. While he would be the first to admit that the best quality was to be found in the most expensive item (particularly where silk was involved), he was also the first to point out that not everyone had the fortune to be so choosey. It was a mindset he had kept throughout his life and it was one that he considered to be greatly important - all had to learn the value of money whether they were rich or poor. Consequently it was his young student's turn to learn such a lesson and where better to learn such a lesson than a thrift store?
It was a peculiar location to pick, especially when Ayr was horrible at picking out something decent in this particular location, but he had been surprised more than once. For example, more than one student had shown their creativity in places such as these. He might have been appalling at such a challenge but he may be surprised by what the young Herald could do.
Accustomed to Heralds, he didn't immediately take note of Alice as he slipped into the store accompanied by the tiny child. He merely glanced around at the various racks and shelves before turning his attention to Ayegali, unaffected by the piercing gaze that the Herald gave. To begin with he'd been mildly disturbed, but when he had discovered this was merely an inquisitive stare he had grown accustomed to it. Ayegali's gaze was sharp but not necessarily intended to cause discomfort, or at least that's what his tutor had gathered.
"Our lesson to day is about the value of wealth, what hidden treasures you can discover when fortune does not smile upon you," Ayr began and motioned with his hand to the store before clasping them beneath his sleeves once more. "Your challenge is to locate items of clothing to your liking. However, there is more to this than simply picking colours and co-ordinating them -" he paused to let the child absorb his orders. "I want you to create an outfit in your mind then select the clothes that will best help you achieve this look. When you have done so, I want you to find these clothes and then explain how you intend to make use of them."
"D-do," Ayegali paused, frowned and then took a breath to rein in his stutter. "Do I have a time limit?"
"None, but I expect a good explanation for your choices when you return," Ayr shrugged loosely and flicked his gaze across the thrift store again. His student needed no further encouragement and save for a few droplets of water on the carpet, there were no indications as to where he had gone. The little Herald had bolted the second he'd been able, clearly he had an idea in mind!

Alice glanced up from the rack she was looking through and smiled at hearing the teacher's instructions on the lesson. Well that was a nice thing to be telling your kid or student - it really wasn't clear to her which it was - all about. Money was valuable, particularly to kids and teens away from home for the first time. It'd taken her a bit to even discover this place and now it was almost a second home to her when she needed a new look.
As Ayegali passed her, the girl leaned down to whisper, "Psst. Do you need help finding any sorta thing?"

He had an idea in mind, he just didn't know where to begin. This was generally how Ayegali worked things out, he would start off with an idea and then it would be an complete mess until he located his answer. Young as he might have been, he had mastered the art of spider diagrams, post-it notes and scribble pads. His mother would often observe that his work space looked like a bomb had hit it, his tutor would point out that this was perfectly normal and to be expected of any budding and intelligent child. The thrift store was to be of no exception in this regard, or rather it wouldn't have been an exception had Alice not stepped in front of him. It was in this rather delicate movement that she ensured that the thrift store didn't adopt an even more chaotic look than it already possessed, and, it saved him a bit of work!
His red eyes swivelled towards her and he regarded her for a few moments. Chin tilted upwards to make up for the size difference, he couldn't avoid lifting a brow ever so slightly at the query. It was only after a considerable delay that he responded, and he only chose to respond when he had noted the following things; number one, she appeared to have a good grasp on what this store involved (perhaps a little judgemental despite his age) and number two, she could probably reach the higher shelves. This in mind, a small smile crept onto his lips and he provided her with a rare twinkle of scarlet iris.
"I do," he replied softly and motioned towards the shelves. "I have to find a long sleeve shirt and then a shirt with slightly shorter sleeves," he paused for a few moments and then opted to continue. "But they have to be textiles, patterned...sort of," he finished. Well, at least he knew what he meant.

Alice took in the other with much less judgment and more interest. It wasn't everyday you saw someone with wings like those! However, upon Ayegali's request, the girl thought for a moment.
"Long sleeves with a pattern? That'd be over this way." Alice assured the other Herald before heading off in that direction to show him towards the shirts. "The plain t-shirts are over on that rack and the ones with stuff on them are a rack over from that." As the girl spoke she pointed to each in turn, "But if you're getting the undershirt in a heavy pattern, get something much lighter with maybe just a front design for the t-shirt, otherwise it's overpowering. Oh! And if you brought a bag, you can get a bag full for a few dollars today - it's a special sale."

He shook his head dismissively at the idea of a frontal pattern – if he was going to pull off this look it had to be a pattern that covered the shirt. He wanted to make a kimono after all, he certainly wouldn’t be able to rival Exo’s impressive garb but he could give it a shot. The only requirements he had for this challenge was that he found patterned shirts that he could turn into layers – then maybe a scarf. He didn’t have to look rich, luxurious or expensive; he just had to demonstrate that he had some sort of idea. That sounded right to his young mind, he would have to hope he had understood what his tutor had in mind as well.
“I need long sleeves,” he insisted with a shake of his head and then motioned to the Hawaiian shirts as if to make a further point. “All over pattern, else it won’t work,” he explained. Keeping this in mind he puttered down the racks at a slow pace and peered up at each piece of clothing in turn. Some were absolutely horrible and didn’t suit what he had in mind at all, but some had potential. However, the more he considered her words the more they began to make sense – he hated the heat as it was and to stack on countless long sleeve shirts would be silly. If he wanted this to work then he should definitely consider her advice about choosing a shorter sleeve for the under layers. That being said, he still needed it to be full patterned so that he got his desired look.
“Maybe one short sleeve shirt,” he amended sheepishly and then returned his gaze to the racks of clothing. Her revelation that these clothes were on special offer did give him pause for thought though and he glanced back at her in interest. He could get a full bag worth of clothes for such a small amount of money? How intriguing! Unfortunately he didn’t have a bag but he could hazard a guess that his tutor might, after all, he never seemed to be unprepared.
“What about scarves?” he asked at last, keeping his idea at the forefront of his mind. “I need one – it’s going to be a belt,” he explained with a level of pride that could only be achieved by a young child of his age when it came to such a mundane topic.
