In the early dawn light, back in the recesses of a shallow clearing that held only a few sturdy trees Vega paced, alive with anxious energy the hart stalked one of his favorite trees. It would have been better to call the thing a scratching post, the way it stood out against the rest, covered from end to end with deep cuts and marks. The trail of slashes seemed to circle up from the base, until they reached a point where the hart was no longer tall enough to get at the exposed flesh of the sturdy redwood.
He planned to fell the thing someday, bring the giant down and enjoy a minor victory over nature. Plus it would give him something else to boast about, maybe he'd change the tale a bit..from a tree to a giant boar..a giant boar to a giant bear, something to impress the ladies while satisfying his own ego at the same time. And even if he never managed to bring the damned thing down, it was still wonderful practice. The tree didn't flinch, didn't run, didn't fight back, not nearly as satisfying as a real opponent, but he wouldn't get in trouble for hacking away at this one either.
His ears tilting back against his skull, tail flicking out behind him as he crouched down, playfully glaring at the unassuming mass of bark and leaves. He was in a much more jovial mood on this day then he was on most, digging in with his hooves and charging the tree, only to feint away to the right at the last second, striking out with hoof instead of banded metal claws. A curious flash of white catching his attention for a moment, before he cast it off as being nothing more then the rising sun playing tricks..

That curious flash of white was moving through the trees towards the forest edge. Soft steps led the buck to the clearing where the lake was glistening in the light of the early morning sun. His plum hooves pressed the grass softly as he slowly walked out into the orange glow, figure silhouetted by the warm, caressing rays. The warmth felt amazing after such a chilly night, and he spread his wings, flapping them a few times to warm them, then folding them back onto his back.
His expression was solemn, those deep teal eyes framed by luxuriously long lashes and set into a lovely, exotic face. His armored front legs glinted in the light, as did the singular horn in the middle of his forehead.
He reached the cool waters lapping at the smooth, sandy shore. He craned his elegant head down, taking a few refreshing sips, watching a few small fish swim by his nose. He lifted his head, taking in a deep breath of crisp morning air, watching in the trees across the shore as birds tweeted and flew with sudden life.

Vega hardly took notice of the whispering steps, so light across the earth that he would have assumed it the trees dropping leaves, or maybe the wind. Another splash of light, something off about it this time, more bright and clear then if it had been the sun's rising rays, a hint of a metallic sparkle in it. Vega's head dipped up, ears flicking as he scanned the horizon, another flash of white catching his attention, but this time it was something more. Blues and greens, fur and hooves..
Vega tilted his head gently, watching from an angle, a slow teasing smile spreading across his face as he got a better look. It was indeed a hind, pretty little thing, with the look of an angel and wings to match. Giving a toss of his long braided hair, puffing his bangs from his eyes, vega took a few calming breaths before slipping free of his spot behind the trees. Coming down from a bit of a self induced high, he approached the dainty looking female from behind. The closer he got, the better she looked, he was rather surprised something so sleek would be out and about all alone. No mate to be seen..
"It's a lovely morning isn't it?" Vega greeted softly coming up alongside the doe to stand at the waters edge, pretending his interest was in the water moving forwards to dip his head and take a quick drink.

Elios gave a little start of alarm at the voice, ears perking and eyes widening as he looked to the other who's managed to approach right beside him.
He blinked, lushes fluttering lightly like butterfly wings as his ears lowered against his skull once the initial shock was over. His wings ruffled lightly, hooves shuffling softly.
"Oh....Yes, very lovely," he replied softly, a little wary of this stranger. He was not from around here so he wasn't sure how newcomers were treated when they came into a territory. He took a glance at the other, noting the long hair tied into one braid, the charming glint in his eyes and smoothness of his voice.
He seemed very comfortable around others he didn't know, very unlike Elios.

Vega smiled softly lifting his nose from the waters edge, dark brown eyes hooded as he gave the other a slight nod of agreement."Hardly as lovely as yourself, but still quite beautiful" A little dove, that was what this one reminded him of, shy skittish, terribly beautiful. Vega really couldn't help himself, the hind even managed to sound like a bird, such a light voice, he would have killed to hear her sing.
Not that he was overly fond of such things, but an experience was an experience, and he rarely passed the good ones up. "I have to say, its rare to see something so...feathered..out so early. I haven't met many with wings like yours, butterfly's and large things, but yours. Heh, I'm surprised there's not a chorus of males trailing at your flanks." Vega purred lightly, hoping the compliments would draw the other out rather then spook her away.

Elios blinked, a sweep of rosey blush showing clearly through his white fur over the bridge of his nose and at the tips of his ears," M-my, you are quite bold," he said with a soft laugh, unsure if he should be nervous or amused.
A fine brow quirked lightly at Vega's second comment, ears swiveling forward curiously," Well, not many males swing my way...," he answered, wondering where the other was going with this.
Was he being hit on? Was this hart a complete creeper, or just overly nice in the way that made others unintentionally uncomfortable?
At this point, he was considering one of the above.

"Not bold my dear, I'm simply being truthful. It's quite hard to deny beauty when you see it." Certainly this one was to be admired, the blush so fresh, fur so snowy white it glowed right through it. Vega chuckled giving a slight tilt of his head, a curious look on his face. "Really? I'm shocked then, I'd expect such a fine hind as yourself to be swarmed.." Vega shrugged, giving a slight smile.
"Heh, maybe the others simply don't know when they see a good thing." Nodding as he spoke, sure that had to be the reason, so many foolish males in the world, skimming over beauty without even realizing it. Or maybe, the little dove was good at hiding himself away from all those prying eyes.
"I'm Vega by the way, I hope you don't mind my..boldness. I completely forget my manners sometimes"

Hind.....?
It clicked in Elios's mind right then, why the other male was being so overly friendly. He thought he was a female? This made him frown a little, ears flattening back against his skull for a moment. Of course it would be the only reason...Some were so shallow, it really did amaze him sometimes.
Then his expression changed to a small smirk, ears perking again as he neared Vega, nose centimeters away from the others.
"Hind, hm? Well, I can't stay this is the first time I've been mistaken for one," he laughed softly, pulling away a little to shake off lightly, wings ruffling," I can assure you, Vega, I am very much a male," he added with a cheeky little smirk.

Mistaken? Vega stood there and simply stared for a long moment, eyes darting up and down the length of the hind..no Hart..mouth slightly agape, not even thinking to hide his embarrassment for confusing the others gender so badly. Who could blame him though! Surely no one would! Such long eyelashes and a soft pelt, well groomed and practically sparkling with femeninity. It was an easy mistake to make.
"Ah..well now don't I look the fool!" Vega laughed, giving a shake of his head. "It must be troublesome to deal with that so often, being confused for a doe. It's hardly a deterrence though..actually, I think it just makes you all that more unique. A hart with the grace and beauty of a hind." Vega offered with a soft grin and an admiring look, trying to cover for his earlier blunder with sweet words and compliments. Truly it wasn't so bad..male or female..so long as it fit his high standards, he saw no reason why he shouldn't pursue it.

Elios blinked, then laughed. He was amused by this Stag's way of thinking. It seemed like being Hart or Hind didn't matter at all to this buck.
"It does get a tad irritating at times...Especially when trying to fight another who wants the one you want," he said, frowning a bit at the memory of Shika," He takes me lightly because of my looks...I could fight him if he initiated it!," he said with the stomp of a hoof, though he had a flustered blush on his cheeks. Truth was, Elios had no idea how to fight another. He had never had to do so in the past.
"Kuronue probably wouldn't want me to fight him but...," he faded off, now looking a little torn about the situation."What would you do?," he asked Vega softly, giving his head a slight tilt of curiosity.

Vega grinned, glad to hear a laugh from the birdlike hart, even more glad he hadn't been completely rejected..Of course the mention of a..what he could assume was a mate..well it was simply unfortunate, and meant this one was off the menu. "K-kuronue!? Haha, you don't mean to tell me that you've paired yourself with that devious little shadow have you?" Vega snickered, rather surprised, then again Kuronue had mentioned having someone, he just didn't believe it!
"I'm sure you could fight anyone you want, and with that beauty of yours, well it'd give you an edge." Vega nodded gently, honestly he didn't believe kuronue would be against fighting. Considering how eager the hart seemed to be for a good match, who was he to decide whether his..his partner? Did or did not enjoy it as well.
"What would I do? Honestly, if it was me, I would fight for it. So long as it was something important to me. Why do you ask little dove?"

He blinked, ears swiveling forward," You know Kuronue?," he asked. Kuro sure did make friends fast....
Elios seemed to sadden lightly, ears flattening back against his skull," W-well....I've never had anything important worth fighting for...So..I....d-don't know how to fight,"
His admitting it made him feel even smaller than he already felt. And to a stranger no less. He shuffled his hooves before frowning, glaring at the ground.
"....What if I'm not a fighter? What if I try with everything I have, and still lose?....Kuronue wouldn't want someone weak for his partner..,"

Vega nodded, oh he knew the shadow alright, mocking devil that he was, and now it seemed he'd met someone of interest to Kuronue. A possible love, how adorable, he'd be sure to tease the other about that the next time he saw him.
Vegas ears tilting back against his head, frowning slightly as the other spoke. "How sad then, but you have something important to you now don't you? So don't dwell on it.." Vega added persuasively, hoping to cheer the other up some, it was terrible to the other stutter, looking so forlorn.
"Tsk, see your cheating yourself out of victory before you've even tried?" Vega snorted giving a stamp of his foot, the other couldn't know for sure until he actually tried! There was no guarantee of course, but who knew, maybe the hart would turn out to be very good? "I doubt Kuronue would have bothered with you in the first place if he thought you were weak. Which means there must be something strong about you.."

Elios blinked. How odd, that he couldn't make sense of it, and yet this stranger had managed to decipher it in a matter of moments. He thought over the others words before opening his mouth to speak, hoping the harts last sentence would hold to be true.
"V-vega....Do you fight?,"
He asked, looking over to the other, a new glint of determination in his gaze, standing straight. He would prove he was more than just a pretty face, and not just to Kuronue, but to everyone who doubted him.
And he was hoping his hart would be able to help.

Vega cocked a wolfish grin, snickering softly at the stuttered question from the dove like hart. "Do I fight my dear dove? Why yes, yes I do, In fact your dear shadow..ah Kuronue, was one of my first partners. Wonderful skirmisher that one is, slippery as a damned eel, but good." Vega added with a confident nod, rather guessing where this line of questioning might be headed..
"And you..I'm assuming..do not..Tell me darling dove, do you wish for me to..instruct you in such things?" Oh it would be beyond fun, getting the chance to mess with kuronues love life a bit, spend some quality time playing with such a beautiful hart..Oh yes..it'd be fun indeed.
