Damn the Emergency Room.
Damn all the procedures.
Damn all the waiting.
Damn it all to hell!!
Ever since she first had first entered the E.R. with Lil in her arms, all Ellie Spectre had been given was the run around. Sure, Ellie had explained how she had seen this girl knocked out in an alleyway and how the muggers had run off when they saw the blonde. Ellie also explained how she recognized the girl from a self defense class she had taken a while back. The tomboy couldn't stress enough how important it was for someone familiar to be around Lil when she woke up. Apparently repeating over and over again how Lil, the victim, was physically blind wasn't good enough to allow Ellie clearance into the back room.
Yet.
Perhaps it was simply due to the fact that the nurses (or whatevers) were rushing to get everything stabilized with the situation and couldn't handle adding a teenage girl into the mix. Or perhaps it was the fact it was simply procedure. Yet, there Ellie Spectre was, stuck in the waiting room. The clerk at the counter was treated to watching this blonde tomboy pace for nearly an hour. Why the tall girl was pacing, even she really couldn't place a finger on it. Usually it was just to get out all that excess energy she tended to have. Normally it wasn't because she was worried.
Maybe she was worried? Maybe it was because of Lil, maybe it was because she was still trying to get over accidentally killing some kid. Maybe it wasn't either of those and it was the fact she only now realized what ********* had done. It wasn't everyday someone sticks their hand in your chest and makes you even more powerful.
Or maybe it was a combination of all of that. Ellie couldn't tell. Her golden eyes flickered up to the door, finding it still shut just like before. She had never been one to really know how she was feeling in these situations. Emotions were a puzzle, and Ellie had never bothered to learn the secrets of that particular puzzle. In her frustration, she walked up to a wall and kicked it with her heel.
"M'am. Please don't kick the walls," the receptionist instantly seemed to scold. "I understand you are upset, but we are doing everything to help out Lilith Calchas."
The blonde glared at the receptionist, seeing that the receptionist was only sitting on her butt waiting for more people to come in with emergencies. "F*ck that sh*t!" With a few more cursory grumbles, the teen resumed her pacing.
It felt like years. Years of pacing. She should have worn a hole in the ground from all her pacing. Yet after what felt like years of pacing, someone finally came out of the back room.
"Ellie Spectre. You can head into the back room for a bit."
"GUH, FINALLY!!!!" the girl snorted out in a less-than-dignified manner. With heavy, rushed steps, she was soon enough at what she assumed to be the doctor's side. Sadly, she was taller than the man.
As he led her to the back, he explained "Usually we do not let anybody in the back room unless they are family. However, due to the unusual circumstance that your friend is blind and most likely will be confused, we will permit you being back here. However, be warned, I cannot disclose anything with you about her current physical condition."
Ellie, being the stickler she was, pointed out "She ain't my friend. Told ya guys before... I jus' know 'er. Don't make us friends."
The doctor rose a brow at the clarification. "Regardless, I cannot disclose anything about her condition. I will need to wait for someone from her family to arrive." There was a pause. "You must be an awfully kind Samaritan then, if she isn't your friend."
Ellie snorted again. "Don't push yer religious sh*t on me. There are jus' some things ya don't do. Leavin' someone who's injured alone is somethin' ya jus' don't do!"
The doctor shook his head. He managed to mumble something about how her mouth should have been washed out with soap, but it went ignored. He opened a door and with a signal, he announced "In here, Ellie."
Forgetting her manners (if she had any), she just simply shoved past the shorter man, pulled up a chair, and pushed it next to the bed which her still unconscious friend was resting on.
God, I hate waiting.
And it was very likely that Ellie was still going to have a lot of waiting to do. Like someone who was getting ready for a staring contest, the tomboy straightened herself out, then settled in to stare at her teammate's face.
You're just here to tell her what's up. Nothing else.

Unconditional fear. Burning pain. It echoed through her skull along with fragmented images, shapes and colors. Nothing concrete, nothing like In the last fearful moments of her supposed life her eyes awoke once more and she could see the face of her attacker. Sorry kids, that only happens in the movies and books. Not real life. No, in real life, Lilith was able to make out the vague shapes and forms that constructed the Negaverse boy's face from his life's energy radiating through and around him. She'd been able to see his eyes well enough, a fact that decided to plague her in the darkness behind her eyelids. It'd been a strange sensation to feel that final impact of her skull against the ground, yet still be unconsciously aware of the world around her. Her brain didn't stop the sudden influx of searing pain of his hand shoved through her flesh, bone, muscle and organs to grasp her very soul. Beyond that?
She hadn't a clue.
She was used to a world of black, even henshined up as she was, the moment she'd been knocked out the magical sight that belonged to Metis vanished. She heard no voices, felt nothing of the world around her. Just pain. A phantom of it, perhaps, a moment in time frozen by every primal instinct telling her to get the heck out of any situation that causes this kind of agony.
Vaguely, bored, she watched the collection of colors and surrealist images pop in and out of her vision. Voices bled through now and then, but it felt like the harder she tried to grasp them, understand them, the faster they'd fade away into nothing. Was this death? Your last moments repeating over and over again in warped versions forever? She'd almost expected images of friends and family to appear, maybe hear their voices now and then. Perhaps even see again, in the strange warped sense in which she possessed the sense in her dreams. Not these, curving shapes trying to make random rectangles with too many loops, or turning Abswurm's face into a strange collection of slinking, dripping blobs and blanched colors.
Ones that seemed to almost vibrate in time with a strange beeping.
Beeping that went in time with a pressure somewhere to her left.
No no… not her left. It was… to her left yet, not. Behind, yet not fully. More... where her ear was.
Like a... a...
...pulse?
The beeping kept on its lazy pace in time with her groggy heart, fingertips twitching over something far softer than the course gravel and grim that made up the floor she'd previously been lying on. Her right hand moved slightly to the side, feeling more of the soft stuff move beneath it. It took a moment for her brain to catch up, reading back the sensation she felt under both hands as cloth, further pokings prompting a bed? response from somewhere in her head. Was she back in her dorm? No, the smell was off. Very off. Her nose crinkled in faint discomfort. This wasn't the smell of her parents' home, either. Or anywhere she would sleep. Her hand continued to move slowly, the rest of her body unwilling to move yet. She was on a stable surface, from what she could tell... thus far. The beeping picked up the pace a little. Her hand hit something cold, following it up gingerly as she expected something sharp to suddenly stab her or something. Again the beeping went up in speed. Instead, she found another cold object – a pipe? – and followed that. No... a rail? She wasn't sure. Empty eyes carefully opened, greeted by darkness as she stared unknowingly up at the ceiling of her hospital room. Now she could hear the voices from somewhere near, yet were muffled. She didn't guess it was from voices out in a hallway, the rest of the patients and staff that ran the place. Nothing told her how long she'd been... wherever she was. The speed on her pulse inched up even further. If she was awake – she assumed she was awake, what else could she be? But where was her copper energy? – she must not be dead then. What happened? She wanted to open her mouth, call out to Iris, but when she let the hand not on the bed's rail move to where her broach should have been, she determined she was not still Metis. Which further explained why she couldn't see anything and yet was conscious. This was a good start. Sort of. Yet for the life of her she could not remember powering down. Again up with the number of beeps per second. Had those Negaverse agents seen her as a civilian? What happened? How did that boy not have her starseed? Did she even still have it? Poking at her chest proved to be in vain, it wasn't like she could shove her own hand in to check.
She had no idea what to do. She was in a foreign place, she was lost, she was confused. Damn it all, she was scared.
Just listen to her heart rate.

There was no comforting hand to touch hers and let her know that everything was alright. In fact, Ellie's hands were simply on her knees. It took her a moment or two to notice that Lil's eyes were opened, but when she did, the tomboy spoke up, normal tone.
"Hey kiddo! Sorry I didn't stop th'mugger fast enough... he probably wouldn't have knocked ya out if I had gotten there faster."
There was a slight pause.
"Yer in th'E.R. now, kiddo. Yer safe."
The doctor, unfortunately, was still in the room. As Ellie spoke up, he drew close to inspect the supposedly blind girl.
"As your friend said, you are in the E.R. Would it be possible to get a phone number for someone related to you, or would you rather us look it up for you, Miss Calchas?"
Gold eyes momentarily glanced to the doctor in a harsh fashion. "Dude... can't ya jus' give 'er a break? She jus' woke up!"
"I am simply doing my job, Ellie."

The sudden arrival of a voice made her head turn, eyes wide as she stared blankly in the direction of the source. Her mind clicked, and she blinked. "Ellie, what-" She'd been about to ask what she was talking about. Mugger? She hadn't been mugged. Till reality decided to sit its fat butt on her chest and stop her cold. Right. Senshi. Secret.
If her slow reaction time was any clue, Lilith Calchas was not much of a morning person. Try more of a mid-morning person, assuming she'd had ample time to let her brain catch up to the rest of the world.
"Thank you," was instead her finishing words after her own pause, smiling until the doctor stepped forward. A new little fear caused her heart rate to trip up, as the heart monitor relayed. Despite any injures she'd ever sustained while on patrol or in combat, none had ever required the attention of a doctor. Never mind making her parents aware of the situation. Now they were good enough folks to not raise a fuss if she ever had a small accident in the past, but in the ER? With a mugger story? This wasn't going to go over so smoothly. "N-no, it's alright, Ellie. Um, yes. Call my father. He should be at work right now... er..." Assuming she hadn't lost complete track of time, that is. This in mind, she informed the man of her father's cellphone number. Regardless of the hour, if anyone needed to get in contact with him, that was the way.
The man nodded, scribbling down the number onto a page on his clipboard. "Thank you, Miss Calchas. I'm sure he is worried and will be happy to hear you are safe." Lilith didn't bother to mention she went to Crystal. Assuming she came as a civilian, she'd have been wearing her regular clothes instead of the uniform. He said little after that, checking the machines she was hooked to and running the small and basic 'well now that you're awake, let's make sure you're in one piece' tests. Reflexes were fine. Heart rate fine. Memory fine. And anything else the machines could tell him that she couldn't seemed to check out.
"Alright then, I'll leave you two alone and contact your father. If you need anything, just hit the button here to call a nurse." This of course then caused the awkward situation of him taking her hand to show her where exactly this button was before giving his quick good-byes to them and exiting the room.
Listening to his footsteps fade into the collection of the halls, Lilith groaned, rubbing her eyes. "I really messed up. I'm sorry." A thought struck, letting her hand fall away from her face. "What about *********? Did you find her yet?" Here she was stuck in a hospital, and she didn't even know that status of the person they'd been out to find in the first place!

The tomboy leaned back against her chair and was literally glaring the whole time at the doctor until he left. When he left, she stood up, walked up to the door, and literally shut it. She wanted to reduce the chances of being overheard by any passing patients or doctors.
"God, finally! Ya know, it took a lotta work t'get back 'ere. They didn't wanna let me back 'ere cause I ain't yer family. God, I carried ya 'ere and they won't let me check up on ya?" She heaved out a rather loud sigh before wandering back to her chair. For a moment, she grieved over the fact this chair wasn't one she could sit in backwards. Such a pity.
"So yeah... sorry 'bout th'story, but I had t'come up with it on th'spot. It was jus' simple 'muggers got scared away when I approached and I brought ya t'the E.R.' story. At least ya don't have t'worry 'bout describin' how they look. Doctors know I know ya, but they think its cause I took a self defense class with ya." The way Ellie was rambling on, it was almost like nothing had happened at all. Just normal Ellie-talk.
Yet, as she shifted slightly in her seat, her tone quieted down in an almost thoughtful manner.
"Ya didn't mess up, kiddo." She sighed. "I should'a been coverin' ya a bit more." There was a pause, and then Ellie did something she usually didn't do. She swallowed the lump that was building up in her throat.
"...ya don't have t'worry about that kid doin' ya in anymore though..."
Pause.
"...I killed him."
The mention of ********* did cause Ellie to pause for another moment and to wipe away the hair out of her own face. "...yeah... cat's okay apparently..." Even though the tomboy's words didn't say it, her tone seemed to say there was something more to her words than she wanted to let on.

Silently she listened to the ordeals it took to get here, Lilith frowned. What a silly thing, not letting her back here just because she wasn't family. She didn't personally see a point in it. Surely it was understandable that anyone who brought someone to the ER would want to make sure the person they'd helped was still alive. And the victim would want to meet their possible savior. "At least they caved at some point? I'm glad your here, that's for sure." Dealing with the doctors while groggy and confused would probably not have ended too well.
She gave an accepting nod to the story, cracking a small smile towards the comment about describing her assailants. Did have to raise a brow at the mention of a self-defense class, though. "It's a good story. At least it can explain why I've just got the clothes on my back." Her cane and Raja were safe and sound in her dorm-room, far away from the dangers of Nega-agents. She hosting the amusing idea of saying she broke her cane over one of her attackers.
Brunette locks flew around her face as she shook her head, jaw set. "I shouldn't have to rely on you to cover me. He was one agent, I should have-" Her words came to a screeching halt when Ellie continued, empty eyes staring in her direction before she slowly pulled herself up into a sitting position.
...killed him?
He was... dead?
For a while, Lilith was completely, utterly, speechless. A dumb nod was all she gave to the status of *********, still unable to find her voice. Or even the words to say. Yet, she lifted a shaky hand to her chest where the barest echoes of pain still throbbed in her head. She was fine now, but when she stopped to remember... "He was going to kill me," was her flat response. She swallowed, shoulders squaring as her pale eyes set themselves upon the blonde. "He was going to kill me and would have never stopped once to consider the ramifications. Not that he'd be killing someone's daughter, friend, or sister. Just that he'd gained another starseed." It was a judgment call on her part. Surely though, those that followed the Negaverse wouldn't continue to steal so many starseeds - so many lives - if they'd actually stopped to think about what they were doing. Her expression softened as she continued, "I'm sorry you did that. I do wish... you hadn't. But..." She gave a weak laugh, hand balling against her chest. "It's difficult for me to regret it." If Ellie hadn't killed him... would she even still be here right now? It was a trade Lilith couldn't help but be biased about. "I... I'm sorry." She wasn't the one who had done the deed, was the problem.
Still, there was the matter of *********. Lilith was quite aware of the feline not being present, though it did make sense. Getting a person into the ER that wasn't family was one thing to see you, but a cat? Her tone of voice did serve to catch the blind girl's attention however. Carefully, she couldn't help but press, "Where had she been?"
What exactly happened while she'd been knocked out?

If one thing was growing painfully obvious, Ellie Spectre did not do the "emotion" thing very well. As Lil talked circles around her inner emotions and her logic for why it was okay for the Negaverse agent to die, the tomboy just sat in the chair like a useless bump on a log. She didn't say anything. She wasn't even looking at her teammate's face. The words were easily spiraling around in her mind, creating a vortex of confusion in her mind.
The one thing Ellie wouldn't, no, couldn't do was talk about how she felt.
At least the question of ********* seemed to be a more welcomed subject, even though the blonde's tone didn't seem to hint towards any sense of enthusiasm. Words at least came out of her mouth.
"Th'cat saw our whole fight." Her voice halted for a moment, trying to find a way to describe the whole scenario. "I guess ya can say she's been patrollin'..." Ellie's fingers managed to find their way to her hair, fluffing up her already bizarrely messy hair.
In an uncertain tone, she then added "I think she powered me up again... I ain't really certain..."

It was almost a relief to not find herself in a debate about the rights and wrongs of killing the Negaverse agent. The fact she wasn't appalled or calling the cops was somewhat a strange sensation as it was, a small nagging voice at the back of her mind. It was yet another thing to debate on her time alone.
Currently the idea that ********* had been present during the whole fiasco deserved her full attention, giving a small jump at this piece of information and flushing quite a color. "I... guess that does make sense, since she's well again... The whole time?" She saw the whole thing? She didn't step in? Though, really, beyond discovering, powering up, and summoning magical items, Lilith was quite unaware of just how much a guardian could do in battle. As far as she was concerned, the sidelines was the safest place for the cat. Still though, it would have been nice to know sooner ********* was safe and well. Scaring them like that...
One new startling piece of news right after another, this conversation was! Lilith felt her mouth pop open, gaping for a moment before she remembered herself and closed it again with a click. Powered up. Beyond... Super Senshi? "There's something even beyond Super Senshi?" This was news. Was this supposed to be news? This certainly felt like big new news to her. "That's... wow. Congratulations?" Ellie certainly didn't sound happy about it, and Lilith herself was quite unsure as to what to make of this. She frowned, head tilting slightly. She wasn't sure what to make of this situation in the slightest.
"Ellie... are you alright?"

"...yeah... th'whole time..." Normally, there would have been a hint of annoyance in her tone for having to repeat herself, but Ellie's voice seemed to hold a different sound to it. Normally, she was so energetic, but her voice, at least at the moment, sounded drained. Not lifeless, but almost a bit stressed.
Once more, her hands ruffled her own hair, as uncertainties seemed to build. Lil's questioning didn't seem to help the situation, as her own ruffling gestures became a bit rougher. "I don't know... I told ya, I ain't certain. So don't go congratulatin' me yet, kid." Her hands abandoned her hair, and soon enough went to her forehead to push her bangs out of her face for a moment.
The prompting about the tomboy's own well being was not greeted with dignity in the slightest. "How th'f*ck should I know?" If she had been feeling like her normal self, she would have sounded angry. Probably even said it a bit louder. If one asked Ellie about thinking, she probably would have said it was hazardous to one's health. With all of these serious things spiraling down in her head, it was weighing her down. Some sort of feeling she had never been comfortable with.
This was why gut instinct worked so much better. You didn't think. You didn't feel guilt or anything. And, you didn't have people asking you about how you were doing.
"...Jus' forget about it..."

Ellie's voice, coupled by the sounds of her fidgeting, was a strong answer right there. Things weren't right. The blonde's usual energy was gone, something that made Lilith oddly uneasy. Her hands clutched the bedsheets softly, rubbing the material with her thumbs every now and then. Her mind was roaring, trying to not only contemplate what had happened in the alley, but now the idea that there were even more powerful senshi than she'd previously imagined, and her teammate was now...
Depressed? Was that even the term she wanted? Tongue in cheek, Lilith couldn't help but feel a little distraught at the moment. She had no idea what to say to Ellie, no idea what was the correct thing to say in this situation. Beyond everything else she'd said thus far which wasn't correct, that is.
"You're really not one to talk feelings, are you?" It was technically a question. Her voice did dip upwards at the end, but beyond that one curve of her vocals, she spoke rather monotone. Matter-of-factly. She leaned back slightly, shoving the pillows behind her up close to her back to keep her in the mostly upright position. For a moment, she allowed herself to rub the back of her head, her own little show of 'I have no idea what to do now.'
The hand fell back to her lap with a small smile, nodding her head. "Sorry then, I'll drop the subject." Perhaps next time she saw *********, then? If Ellie didn't know the full situation... had the silver guardian not explained everything? This was a troubling concept. Still.
Her head was still turned towards the other girl, empty eyes staring blankly ahead. Her brow creased slightly, biting her lip. She might not have known what to say, but it didn't make her any less worried. Picking at random straws, she asked, "Have you eaten anything today?" It was turning into a long day. First a sudden patrol, then the fight, then spending so much time here at the hospital... a bite to eat could go over well.

"Feelins ain't done nothin' fer no one!" Of course, Ellie's definition of feelings was the one where it was all of those feminine emotions that came up. Happiness was not a feeling, nor was bare basic anger. However, the moment any emotion curved into something more than just the bare basics listed, they became feelings and were automatically "girly."
No amount of logic in the world could convince the tomboy otherwise. Examples also would fail to hit the mark with her. Even examples involving herself would probably still miss the mark.
Her teammate's apology did not even get dignified with a response. However, the sudden change in subject did seem to do something good for the both of them. Ellie might not have been 100% soothed by the mention of food, but it did seem to ease her mind for a bit. At first, she sighed heavily, eyes rolling up as she thought the current day over.
"...Let's see 'ere..." Silently, her mouth formed the shape of words, obviously counting without sound. When she finished, she gave her answer. "I ate 4 microwaveable burritos fer breakfast this mornin'..." Sadly, it wasn't anything out of the ordinary for the tomboy. "I could probably use some grub... but I ain't gonna do that yet." It went unmentioned, but the blonde was afraid she wouldn't be able to get back into this room if she left for one reason or another.
Seeing no harm in it, Ellie bounced the question back at Lil. "What 'bout you? Ya eat somethin' before th'patrol?"

Lilith's logic towards emotions was, simply, any form of feelings someone had. Joy, anger, sorrow, and so on and so forth. As such, she gave a small shrug. "If you're sure," was her only response. She disagreed entirely, but if there was at least one thing she had gotten through her head after all her meetings with the other scout, was that stubborn was stubborn and she hadn't the ability to change anything about it. Perhaps someday Ellie would see the world differently, if only slightly. Maybe.
Her brow rose skeptically when she heard what had been the day's starting meal. Burritos? Tasty though they were... that was hardly a proper breakfast, right? Why wasn't Ellie sick to her stomach after that? Was it as iron clad as her will?
"Are you sure? I've heard hospital food isn't the worst out there." She gave a pause at this, trying to remember if she knew of any fast food joints around the area for alternatives. The return of the question, however, made her stop and blink. The morning had rewound itself in her brain, reminding her of her original plans to sleep in and spend the day with her parents. "No, I was too intent on getting to your place quickly to grab anything." Which was true. Food takes a backseat when you get called first thing in the morning hearing a friend is missing. "Only thing I had time to do was give my mother a call to tell her I'd be busy today." It was this train of thought that made her sigh through her nose, what with the fact this same woman would be arriving at the ER most likely frantic. How long till she heard the end of this?
This also gave her the annoying reminder leaving the room would be somewhat difficult without a cane or Raja to help guide her. Something told her the ER didn't do room service, either.

Ellie should have hated to be the bearer of bad news. Or at least a reality check. Yet she didn't really seem to care.
"Well, last I checked, the E.R. ain't the hospital. It's supposed t'be a quick in an' out sorta place. They don't really have much in th'way of hospital food. Best I'd probably find is a vendin' machine."
The mention of a mother seemed to shut Ellie up for a bit. The tomboy had planned on staying around for longer, but the notion that some adult was going to come in and see her with Lil seemed to rub her the wrong way. It wasn't like Ellie was the most polished girl out there. She was fine with meeting the parents of her friends (friends meaning guys she hung out with). Since Ellie didn't consider girls to be friends, she didn't really have much hope for such a thing.
"F*ck... how far away does yer mom live?" There was a trace of concern on the blonde's breath.

For a moment, Lilith just gave a few questioning blinks. Wasn't the ER part of the hospital? Didn't they still have access to the cafeteria she'd heard hospitals had? She gave a small, embarrassed laugh as she flushed. "O-oh, really? My bad. Guess that shows my experience with the E.R." Truth be told, the only time she'd ever been in the hospital was years before, when she'd first lost her sight. Clearly, assuming one was the same as the other was a mighty wrong thing to do.
Her brow rose again when Ellie questioned where Mrs. Calchas could have been, making the brunette rub her head again. "Well... I'm not sure where she is right now." With her almost morose tone and sheepish expression, she quickly realized how negative this could be taken, amending, "She and my father were staying with a family friend in the city, but our house is a good ways out of the city itself. Mother has a veterinary clinic not far from there. The three of us were supposed to spend the day together, but when I had to cancel..." She shrugged, hands laying flat on her lap. "They were going to head to work, I figured. She must be coming from out there."
A bright smile perked up, a finger raising to make a 'point.' "I'm sure they'll be here somewhat soon. Nothing to wo-"
"Lilith?"
The somewhat muffled, high, frantic voice made her stop short, eyes widening as the door flew open a second later. In the entrance stood a woman of average height, her brown hair kept in a rather haphazard low pony tail. A vet's white coat was still buttoned shut over her clothing, dark flats clacking against the floor as she rushed to her daughter's bedside. Rachel Calchas' demeanor changed in a heartbeat, serious and calm and emanating I'm a doctor vibes as her hands flickered to check the teen's pulse and forehead temperature. Animals needed calm and collected doctors just as much as humans did, after all.
Behind her, a rather scruffy older man stepped in, glasses sitting low on the bridge of his nose as he took up a good chunk of the doorway. Security guards need a good, strong physique, too, at least was his view after leaving the wrestling ring for a life in security business. "Thanks goodness you're alright," he sighed, his rough voice making Lilith smile slightly as he ran his hand through his hair with a clear sigh of relief. Rachel still had yet to say anything beyond the general 'Are you alright,' 'Where does it hurt,' and other such questions, hand flitting and feeling and checking and muttering something about disgusting city traffic. Not seeing any blood or obvious injury on his child after stepping over to stand behind his wife, scanning the girl as intently as her mother, Victor was the first of the pair to land his green eyes on the second teen in the room. "You must be the one who helped her," he started simply, lips turning up at the corners. His voice still held the air of breathlessness, hinting to a bit of a run before he got here. Standing there in a security guard's uniform helped to give an idea where he'd raced from, in a way.
It was at this the older woman paused, staring at Ellie for a moment over Lilith before giving a warm, broad smile of her own. "Thank you, we can't say that enough for what you've done." Lilith was silently agreeing, though for different reasons than her parents were referring to as she curled her hands joyously around those of her mother. She'd almost lost this sensation forever.
"Mom, dad, this is Ellie," came her voice carefully, slipping from her startled freeze. "Ellie, my parents - Victor and Rachel Calchas."
"It's good to meet you then, Ellie."
"It's a pleasure to meet you," Rachel corrected, voice light as she gave an almost childish laugh. Her arms came down to wrap her daughter in a near crushing hug. "And you! You were supposed to be spending the day with friends and staying safe! Not go wandering through alleyways... you could have been seriously injured." The disapproval and glares were apparent even to the blind girl, whom in turn was grimacing. Victor at least was keeping a cheerful face on, mindful of company in the room as he let a large hand pat his wife's shoulder.
"I was," Lilith protested at last, bumping her head against her mother's chin. "I was spending time with Ellie. We separated for a bit while out, that's when I went into the alley to start heading back to Crystal and the muggers found me." She found it astounding she was able to lie to her parents like this. Though, in a way, it was the truth. They had been out together, and did get separated in that fight when the boy had attacked her. "She found me and chased them off." Her mother was staring again at Ellie, eyes wide. The idea that this girl had been that brave... she might cry! Victor was beaming.
Both were about ready to start on more thank yous.

Damn.
Just, damn.
She hadn't even been given a chance to give her farewells when two adults burst into the room. It wasn't her nature to be sulky or bad mannered with parents, but usually the parents belonged to her friends who were guys. There was also the fact she didn't feel like doing much of anything thanks to the incident leading to Lil's injury. So rather than greet the company the moment they stepped in, she began to try and slip to the door unnoticed.
It was a bit difficult for a 5'10" girl to go unnoticed though, for what she assumed to be Lil's dad not only saw her, but spoke to her.
Damn
Stopping in place, she turned to look at the guy. He was big, that much was for sure. Big and toned didn't mean a good fighter though. It just meant he had endurance more than likely. Able to take a hit, and depending on his opponent, maybe able to give a strong hit as well. Depending on his opponent.
It just felt really awkward for them to be making such a fuss over her. She offered a "Eh... no prob, I guess..." to all of the thank yous. Yet, when introductions were made, the tomboy sighed a bit. Ellie Spectre had very particular views on how to do a greeting. So when Victor spoke first, she came forward, took his hand within her own and shook it. She was of the mind you needed to have a firm handshake, so her own handshake was startling strong for the usual girl handshake. She repeated this process with Rachel, not easing up in the slightest with her handshake.
"Nice t'meet'cha both." Rachel probably would have a holiday with how Ellie spoke, based off that simple correction she gave her husband. However, the blonde wasn't about to give them that opportunity.
"Eh, those muggers were a bunch'a pussies!" She shrugged, then waved a hand. "Anyways, I need t'get goin'... that doctor was givin' me th'stink eye th'whole time, so I know when I ain't wanted."
There was a pause, then she added "Talk to ya later, Lil!" Not giving the parents an opportunity to flood her with more gratitude, Ellie bolted out of the door. It might have seemed strange to all E.R. personnel that some random blonde tomboy was jogging to get out of the building, but that was just how Ellie was. Some people just didn't handle the E.R. well at all, at least, that was how the E.R. staff justified it.
