So they had their bunk assignments. That was the next big change in going from Candidate to Weyrling... and it was, somewhat predictably, making S'kagi a bit nervous.
His new bunk mate was a girl. Knowing G'brel was one thing, but bunking with a girl... well... other than Luvith...
So good you remembered that I'm female... The crimson quipped, amused, as she watched, 'helpfully' from where she'd decided to nest on his things. Not that he'd brought a lot of things with him, but trying to put away his clothing with an increasingly bulky little red dragon sitting on them...
"I didn't forget, It's just that it's..."
It's not like she's going to try and have that 'sex' thing with you. That's against the rules. Whats the problem?
"Luvith!" He turned an fairly impressive red himself at her thought, which amused her more.
Well it is. You're funny.
"It's just... different. It is."
She's also not the girl who did that. Luvith pointed out, with one of her flashes of surprising maturity, her attention turning to the scars he was still trying to hide with his hair. Everything is different now. You have me. I have you. Eventually, we will have our own Weyr. Thats all we need to know for now.
"I'd still like to not upset her... that would make the bunking arrangement a lot easier..."
Was she Weyrborn or hold born? Was she going to be like some of the Weyrborn and be startlingly casual about... well... everything? Or was she going to have a fit if he so much as took off his shirt in her line of sight? Shards he just didn't -know-.

It hadn't taken long for Kelvari to pack up her few wordly belongings. Four changes of breeches, two tunics, and some miscellaneous cotton shirts were all of the clothing that she owned, and only a few small containers of sweet scented rubbing oil that she used on Chanel made up the rest of her pack. She had tried to keep a journal once, but that had fallen by the wayside after a few scribbled entries.
Nevertheless, it felt odd looking at her old cot in the barracks she had shared with a few other girls. It had never felt like anything special when she had slept there every night, but now...
Why are you sad Kelvari?
"I'm not sad Sakath, I'm just..."
Well, what was she? Looking at the empty bed with the same bedfurs it's had since the last girl had slept on it, she did feel a twinge of something that could be sadness. But why would she be sad about that?
That is what I am wondering? Do you regret my hatching?
"OF COURSE NOT!" She exclaimed, nearly dropping her bag in startlement. "I'm just... I don't know Sakath. It's just hitting me that everything has changed. I'm pretty sure change is good, but it's unsettling you know?"
I don't know, but okay. So where are we going now?
"Weyrling Barracks. I haven't checked who we are bunking with yet, all I have is the room number, but she can't be that bad right?" Unbidden was the image of Sakath's Hatching, of the blood on the sand...
"In fact, I'm positive she won't be that bad." Kel said, hoisting her pack over her shoulder before bending down to scoop up Sakath. "And even if she's noisy, or her dragon is noisy... I'm sure we'll make it through." She said, amending her thoughts to include helpful images of Sakath and whoever their bunkmate was to be being friendly enough to share space without incident.
Ironically, just as she got the mental images right and made Sakath rumble approvingly, she entered her new room and found it already occupied. Which, retrospectively, shouldn't have suprised her all that much, but for the fact that it was the newest Trine crimsonrider standing there.
The newest MALE Trine crimsonrider.
"SHARDS! WHY ARE YOU IN MY ROOM?!"

"Gah!!"
Well. So much for not upsetting her. Back to the doorway, he'd hardly expected the yell of shock and outrage, and he jumped up from trying to retrieve one of his shirts from under Luvith (who had decided it was more fun to continue to sit on them), so fast it almost literally made him dizzy.
I think she's upset. Luvith helpfully pointed out, stepping off his shirts and moving around to stare at the girl and her Silver with interest. Is she normally this noisy? The crimson added, cheekily, to Sakath.
"I-I room here! It's on the list!" S'kagi stuttered, eyes wide, and about half expecting her to attack him and accuse him of lying in wait to do terrible things. "Sorry! I didn't make the assignments!"
Appologizing again??
Luvith, she's not really happy
Oooh I missed that. It's our room too.
Don't be so sarcastic! I know it's our room too. I'm sure they had some reason for this...
Then we've got nothing to worry about do we? Luvith nudged, pawing at S'kagi with one forefoot, as though to encourage him onward as he continued, tugging at his bangs with nervousness.
"It's really on the list! Go and see!" He insisted. She wouldn't accuse him of altering the list would she? He hadn't looked too closely but he didn't think he was the only person who they'd paired like this, but with some of the names it was hard to tell.

"Shardling fardling right I'm going to go SEE! This is SOOOOO Not Oh Kay. Who in their right mind would assign a BOY and a GIRL together huh? I BET they need seeing lenses or something, this is RIDICULOUS!!!!"
Kelvari was saved having to walk all the way back to the Weyrlingmaster's office by Sakath, however. The little silver was nothing if not the curious sort, and he had been attracted to a rather colorful piece of hide that had been hanging next to the door for awhile now.
Kelvari? What does this say.
"Not now Sakath, I have a full-grown person with considerable rank behind them to chew out, and I need to save my breath."
But I think that this says my name? Does it?
Sighing, she half turned to look, and visibly paled.
"Uh, yes, that does say your name. "
And yours too?
"Yes..."
Then who are the other two names?
Fardling innocent question...
"S'kagi and Luvith."
Oh! Luvith, your name looks really pretty written down! Then to Kelvari, he asked, Does this mean we really are living together?
"Hurmph."

S'kagi let out a soft groan as Kelvari's rage roared through the area like a tropical storm.
This was going to end badly, one way or another, he could just feel it. Watching her simmer down over the listings was like watching her cram lightning into a small stoppered bottle, and he was certain that it would come roaring out again at the first opportunity.
"Look, I'm really really sorry..." He appologized, imediately getting whacked across the ankles with an muscular crimson tail.
Stop apologizing! Did you make the assignments when I wasn't looking?
"No but..." He turned his attention briefly to the demanding little dragon, rubbing his ankles.
Then don't apologize. You didn't make a mistake.
"Luvith, I'm trying to be considerate... " Besides... her dragon outranks you...
It's not her dragon you're appologizing to, is it?
You're missing the point on purpose!
