yup. so to begin with a little background information. The saints were given the revelation from the Lord that they should begin to live the law of consecration in February 1831, and this was soon after they had began to gather in Kirtland, Ohio. and this can be found in D&C 42:30.
So what does the word consecrate mean?

I won't cheat and use the dictionary...
I'm guessing it means something along the lines of setting something apart to be used for a certain purpose.

very good, it's to set apart or dedicate something to the service of the Lord.
so from the definition what is the law of consecration?

It's the setting apart of everything we have to building up the kingdom so everyone will always have what they need.

To relieve the poor, to acquire property for Church use, to increase humility, to decrease laziness, to create more unity and equality, to be financially independent, and to use our talents to build up the kingdom.

One of the things people can consecrate is surpluses, and it says on Lds.org "If members produced a surplus from their stewardships beyond what was necessary for their families, at the end of the year they gave it to the bishop to put in the bishop’s storehouse (D&C 42:33; 51:13). The bishop used the surplus to care for the poor, to build houses of worship, and for other worthy purposes (D&C 42:34–35)."
And I have a story to go with this one. My dad used to be a farmer and he farmed grains, and whatever he had extra him and my grandpa would give to the church storehouse, and one year there was a horible drought and it was hard to come across seed to plant, and the church gave them some seed to plant, because of what they had previously given.
so, what do you think would be some of the blessings of living in a community where people lived the law of consecration?

Hey Ark, nice to see you around here. razz
Well, if we lived the law of consecration then no one would be without the things they needed, and we would all be able to spend our time and energy doing the things Heavenly Father needs us to do and not have to worry about making enough money to take care of ourselves and our families.
