Beds were comfortable. Afternoon light, golden and bright, filtered in through the blinds, attempting to ease him into consciousness - but Valeriu turned lazily to the side, settling into the space where Quinn had been sprawled not hours earlier. He'd already been woken once this morning - Quinn was up strangely early, muttering about job interviews before he left. Vale didn't pay him much heed.

Yesterday, Valeriu had let himself slip, just a little bit - he hadn't intended on staying the night at Quinn's new apartment, but Murphy had lady company over and Valeriu still had been unable to find a suitable home out in Oldpeka, honestly too busy exploring the city to have made much of an attempt yet. It was either this bed, or the streets.

He chose the warm, comfortable bed, and what a good choice it had been. Startlingly enough (for Quinn's living spaces, at least), the sheets had been freshly washed.

He'd had a few qualms, at first. The entire apartment smelled, quite distinctly, like the girl they'd met off the boat - Ashlyn. Quinn had, in his way, rattled off a fast-paced and rambling story that left Vale more confused than when he'd first asked about it, and Vale had decided just to nod and accept it or else face a headache. What mattered was that Quinn definitely lived here - and anyway, at the time, he'd been more interested in other things.

The light was still intent on spearing him in the eye, he noted with sleepy half-consciousness, pillow tucked beneath his chin and blankets, too warm for the summer heat, pushed down to the vicinity of his hips.

He grumbled, silently, and buried his face stubbornly into the pillow.

Wakey-wakey time could come later for the boy who'd skipped three days of sleep.

Tuesdays were the worst for Ashlyn, class-wise. For one, she had to be up at the crack of dawn to make her 8 AM exploratory seminar, which would have been hard enough not to sleep through if she was well-rested. Then she had a math class at 10:30, which was a good hour after her seminar got out but at the same time wasn't enough time to make driving back to her apartment worth it. Therefore, she'd been forced to stay on campus, scarfing down a crappy campus bagel in the Union and working frantically to finish that week's homework. But no, the fun was only beginning, because she had a recitation for Politically Correct Prose directly afterward, and only the most miniscule room for a lunch break between that and her geology lab, which took two and a half hours.

All of this on such a pretty day, too.

She finished out her classes with a trip to the gym as she always did, her cardio all the more essential now that she knew there were other Players about, those who could threaten her livelihood with lightning balls and other scary s**t like that. Ashlyn's powers were pretty weak by comparison, but that didn't mean that she couldn't be in the best shape possible. After all, a healthy woman is an empowered woman.

She walked up the stairs to her apartment with a tired gait, her body still damp from sweat and her face flushed from the workout, bringing out her freckles even more. With a satisfied sigh she entered her living room, tossing her backpack onto the couch and moving towards her bedroom, ready for a nice, hot shower. She had been halfway to sliding her shirt off when she noticed that Cat Boy was in her bed. In. Her. Bed.

"What the ********," she began softly, pressing her shirt back down over her stomach, "What the ********! Has everybody decided that my apartment is some kind of ******** hotel?!" If her face hadn't already been red, she might have been blushing out of the close call she'd just suffered through. It didn't occur to her that Quinn could have been the one to let him in, and that was probably for the better: if she could have imagined what might have happened on her queen-sized bed, she would have frothed at the mouth.

"What's your excuse, huh? Is your apartment complex not pet-friendly?" Out of instinct, she reached for her scabbard, which had been draped on a nail next to her door. "You'd better have a damn good reason for being in my bed."

Metaphorical alarm clocks just kept right on ringing.

When abruptly roused from an exhausted sleep, however light it was, Valeriu's reflexes came first; muscles jumping, wrenching him out of unconsciousness and into startled wakefulness as he snapped to sit upright.

"V'ha-" His voice, already rough and deep on its own, was thick with bleary incomprehension and vague wariness. He looked at her, blankly, unable to process her words as his body concentrated on deciding whether she was a threat or not.

Probably not, it decided.

Now he could figure out what she was doing in here, and why she was so mad.

"Hn?" he muttered, groggily, in what was supposed to translate to slow your roll, v'oman - v'hat are you going on about? He tried again. "Miss Ashlyn-"

He paused.

"Your bed?" More adrift than worried as she reached for the sword (really, until it was a flaming sword or pointing at him, he remained unconcerned), he took a moment to take proper stock of the situation.

Apartment, smelling mostly like her. Room, too clean and cared for.

Him, clad only in mostly abandoned sheets and plaid boxer-briefs.

Her, in an outrage and about to skewer him, no doubt.

He cleared his throat and ignored the deep red flush steadily threatening to overtake his entire face.

"Quinn is a lying snake," he finally explained, quietly and simply and quite succinctly, because, really, it explained itself if she had any inkling of what Quinn was like. "And I am sorry to have ever met him."
