"Three o'clock." a man with glistening white hair stated with a sigh as he looked up at the clock on the wall across the room. Working in his shop was a bore. He didn't hate it, but he was no longer enthused with it. Interesting people came and brightened his day every now and again; but over all, today was just a boring day.
He had no plans of doing anything drastic like he had in the previous weeks; thus he wasn't down in his basement. He literally sat in his shop and wasted the morning away. Customers would come to him asking for headache medication and maybe something to calm symptoms of cold and flu viruses. But those people were boring to him. He would just point in the direction where the potions or poultices could be found, they'd pick it up, buy and then leave. No one ever tried to strike up conversation unless they had a question other than that.
Amerald yawned as he sat back in his little wooden chair behind the shop desk. All his hopes for today were that someone would come and peak his interest, even if it was just for a little while. He hadn't thought of using any of these boring customers for his next experiment, he needed something fresh, something not normal. He put his hand on his chin and placed it on the desk in front of him.
He glanced passed all of the people, one by one, that were in the room. Each were too interested in their own affairs. What busy bees his customers were. They were also so plain, nothing struck him by surprise nor did nothing interesting happen with them. He was in a slump and he wanted so badly to just close the shop and go work on his own experiments a tad bit more for the day before retiring to bed. What would he do?

Sati glanced at the names as she walked past the building fronts, attracting one or two looks herself. Occasionally she would catch the eyes of someone who was looking at her; a man usually, and she would smile in an impish fashion and give a small shake of her head, the heavy and thick braid of hair that lay down her back coming to life with a faint rustle and tinkle of the golden hair ornaments in it.
She didn't stop walking though, didn't engage them in conversation, it was just amusing to let them know she knew they were staring. She padded on, embroidered slippers visible under the hem of her sari, a hand tugging for a moment on the sash that was wound around her waist and over her shoulders as it was slipping slightly. She paused for a moment, unfolding the piece of paper and checking the details before looking up at the building she had halted in front of.
'Oh, I'm here.' she refolded the paper and tucked it down the front of her top, pushing open the door and stepping inside. There was a slightly medicinal, herbal smell in the air..and as she looked around, eyes adjusting from the change in light she noticed a distinctly bottled theme. A second scan of the small shop and her eyes alighted on the desk, and someone who she guessed might be the proprietor. She walked over, and stood before it, one adorned hand propping on a hip.
'Hi there.'

Amerald began to fall asleep due to the lack of sleep and the fact that he was quite bored with todays events. He was kind however, smiling at all of the customers that had come and gone. He looked out of the two windows of his shop, watching as potential customers walked by. He let out a large sigh of relief knowing those people didn't come in. The less people he had within the shop today, the faster he could close up and go spend time with his girls.
The people within the shop began to dissipate as they made their selections and left. He took their money, even though he hardly needed it, and placed it in the little register behind the counter. "Thank you, have a great day." was his most common phrase to his customers. Sometimes he would add 'please come again' and other times he wouldn't, depending upon the customer at hand.
Suddenly, the door to the shop opened once again and in stepped a woman. This woman caught Amerald's eye. She was in no way plain or boring. Her looks were captivating. She was interesting to look at in Amerald's opinion. He smiled as his mind was flooded with ideas at that moment in time. He watched her as she made her way towards him. WHen she spoke, he instantly nodded and replied, "Welcome to Amerald's Alchemy. How are you today? Can I interest you in anything?"
He knew that this woman was quite different already and that he had an idea for her unlike any other. He had this feather in his basement that had been there for a while. It was that of a quetzal, a beautiful bird that is so majestic and colorful. It was just a beauty to look at. He had an idea, a great idea. This woman would be the cause of his next experiment. And with her looks as well as that of the feather, the result would be quite beautiful, Amerald thought. He just awaited a response.

He was appraising her, and one of her finely arched brows lifted in amusement. Fingers tapped her hips (and if one looked closely, one would see they were all painted golden), and she held out the other hand, the bangles on her wrist clattering downwards as she did so.
'You're Amerald are you?' she asked, seeing if he would shake. He looked like he had been dozing and her lips curled into a smile. He was fairly good looking, though older than she was and Sati wondered what had piqued his interest in her.

Amerald smiled and nodded. "Yes, I am Amerald. Owner of this shop. What can I do for you today?" he said, looking her over again and again. He was captivated by her looks. He couldn't believe what was standing before him. She was definitely the most interesting looking woman he had seen in a long time.
He stood up and walked around the corner of his desk to now stand in front of it. He smiled as the shop was emptying one by one. People weren't interested anymore or just didn't need medication after all, for they just set the things down and left with a minor wave to Amerald. Being the rather kind person he is, Amerald gave each of them a small nod or a lift of his hand back as they left.
When the shop was nearly empty, he gave this woman his full attention. Would she make a good mother? Would she keep his secret another day? Those were the single most important questions he needed to be able to ask someone before taking their DNA and creating such a creature.

'Nice to meet you.' she replied, moving the untook hand back and patting at her hair, capturing a stray strand of it and tucking it behind her ear as if that was what meant she had meant to do all along. Obviously he wasn't interested, she thought for a moment, looking as one of the last customers trailed out of the door.
But it seemed that maybe some of her charm had worked as he came out from behind the desk and stood beside her. She perched on the edge, looking at him from under her black lashes and smiled.
'Oh I'm hoping you can help me, one of my students mentioned you were the place to go for a good deep heat salve for tired muscles.' she pushed a hand into the small of her back and gave a little arch.
'Get a bit stiff at the end of a week teaching my dance class.' she said with a sigh. Okay she was maybe laying it on a little thick, but then maybe she would get a discount.

Amerald had an idea of what she was up to. Using her body to get what she wanted, maybe? Hmmm, well for him he was definitely taking that and laughing in the back of his mind. He was surprised by this woman's actions, but to each their own.
Amerald listened to what this woman said and couldn't get the thought out of his mind. He purposely didn't pursue her because of the way she was acting. He generally would find this woman attractive, but her nature was more funny than inviting to him. She hadn't known of his past however.
He nodded as he understood what she meant. He walked over to the salves and knelt down to find the perfect one. He smiled, picked it up, and turned to her. "Here it is." he said, walking back over to her and setting it on the desk.
"A dance student referred you to me? So, you're a dance instructor I'm guessing? Are you good with your students? The children I mean." he said in a curious fashion. Yes, he was curious, but for his own reasons most definitely.

No fun she thought to herself, well if he was going to be polite than so would she be. Besides, he started it, he had been staring, whether he would admit it or not. When he bought back the jar she picked it up and twisting off the cap took a tentative sniff. It smelt interesting and she wondered what was in it. Well as long as it worked, she didn't really care if she was honest.
'Thanks. How much do I owe you?' she nodded, wondering why they were moving into small talk.
'I guess, I mean I've had no complaints, but it helps that what I teach they actually want to learn.' Sati smiled. It was also quite sweet when they came running into lesson in their kiddies saree & plastic jewellery that they had probably wheedled out of their parents.
'I don't teach those who want to learn, it's a fun class, and a fun dance to learn but I don't like time wasters.' she twisted a bangle on her wrist, looking at Amerald.
'Why do you ask?'

Amerald smiled. "I ask because I'm curious. I've never danced before and frankly, was wondering how one went about learning." he replied. Of course, it was a complete lie, but anything to drag her off the trail of where he was truly going. He wanted to somehow integrate the trust factor into the conversation, but he hadn't known the way to do so.
Then it struck him. "Can you keep a secret?" he whispered bluntly. Well, that was definitely one way to ask the question. He had a bit of a wicked smile upon his face as he whispered those words to her. His eyes were half closed and he used the desk to lean upon.

Her brow raised higher this time and she had to take a few moments to compose herself. Even so she felt herself laughing as she replied.
'You'd like to learn Bollywood style dance would you?' Sati said, amused at the thought. Not that men couldn't and didn't, there were many fine male dancers, including Bollywood actors, but there was something slightly pressed and refined about him. It was a definate mental clash.
A hand went on the desk when he leaned in; she was a flirt but they'd just met and he was now a bit too close for comfort. 'Depends on the secret..' she said, smiling still, her hands grasping the jar he'd bought for her. If he tried anything he'd get beaned on the head with it.

Amerald smiled as he noticed her hand go for the jar. He backed away slowly until he was standing straight up again. He folded his arms and tilted his head. He rose a brow and began to strut around the empty room in a circle, going around to the different items he had on display, picking them up, setting them down and moving on.
"Well, this secret requires something of you. You see I'm experimenting with DNA at the moment. As you can tell, this shop is like an apothecary of sorts. The DNA I require is just a single strand of hair. I use it to make a very, very personal version of my own concoction. It can definitely benefit you. But what I need, is your secrecy. If you give me a strand of your hair, I'll allow you to take the bottle of salve for free. If not, you must pay me the amount and you may be on your way." he said as he finally ended back in front of her.
"The choice is yours Ms...?" he said, realizing he didn't even know her name yet. That was a minor glitch on his part. He had figured out enough about her that she was alright with kids and that she may be able to keep a secret.

Sati relaxed, picking the jar up properly and rolling it between her hands as she watched him pace. This trip to the shops for one item had turned into something vastly more strange, and complicated.
'You want my what now?' her eyes narrowed as she let him finish the rest of his little explanation and she looked from him to the jar of salve in my hands. 'I'm not sure a jar of salve is worth it, what do you need my DNA for and how will it benefit me?'
She pushed away from the desk and gave the door a cursory glance. She looked back at Amerald. 'It's a good thing you're not creepy looking on top of the mad scientist vibe..Sati is my name.' she folded her arms.
'So tell me what exactly you want my DNA for.'

Amerald looked at the floor. 'Mad scientist? Heh, I've been called that before...' he thought to himself. He now had to come up with some explanation. He didn't necessarily want to give her the exact truth, because she may report him right away to the officials. He wouldn't want that. But then again, it's his word versus hers. He had to be smart with his words, otherwise they may come back to bite him.
"Well, it is definitely a pleasure to meet you Sati. The reason I need the DNA is because of the experiments I've been performing. Just little things here and there. Nothing too major. You're a beautiful woman, but let me ask you this. Have you ever thought of...having a child? The old fashion way of course. Losing that figure. Doesn't sound appealing, does it? Well, what if I said I could give you a child, Sati? One that could grow and love and care for you. One that could be apart of you. I know, I must be insane to think that I could give you a child. But, using what resources I have, I could very well do it. Now, I am an alchemist, but also a very clever scientist. This is why I truly need your secrecy. The truth is always best." he said to her, smiling.
He hoped he could trust her, but then again, she was dressed differently, if she did pull any stunts, he could always just tell them she was insane and that he was just a poor alchemist with nothing to hide. That would surely work. Hiding the rooms of his daughters, telling them to leave for a while. Hopefully Amelia would be able to deal with the loss, but Annabelle could definitely guide her.

So she listened, arms still folded, her expression changing numerous times as he talked. She wasn't sure whether to yell at him that he was crazy or just burst out laughing at the idea.
'Uhh.' she started to say, but she wasn't really sure what she was about to say. How did one even begin to reply to all that he had said?
'You think I'm beautiful then?' Sati latched onto the one thing that actually made sense in her head, an anchor in a sea of weirdness. There were more words though and she sorted through them one by one. A child? Did she in truth want children? It was what a good Hindu daughter did eventually; marriage and children. What on earth would her parents say if she visited them with a child in tow?
She looked at Amerald. 'Given that what you've just told me sounds like some sci fi movie plot I'm not even sure who I would tell. Or who would believe me? You just said it and I don't even believe my ears.' She wasn't leaving though, and she had no idea why not.

So, she had listened, and she looked rather confused. Amerald knew that what he had said would have really given her something to think about. He smiled. "Here, allow me to show you what I mean." he said, really taking a leap. Even in his mind, he was going a bit bonkers. He quickly went to lock the front door and close the blinds as to not allow anyone else to see. Luckily the shop was now empty of anyone but the two of them, and his daughters.
He ran to the door which held the creatures. "Annabelle, Amelia. Please come down." he said. This was a HUGE step for him, especially because he hadn't ever thought of introducing them to a complete stranger without prior warning.
The sound of footsteps could be heard within the back portion of the shop, which was Amerald's house. Suddenly, two beautiful women came through, obviously much younger than Amerald himself.
The first that stepped through the door was tall, almost as tall as Amerald at 5'10. She was tanned and had beautiful long black, straight hair. On either side of her head were large brown horns which looked as though they were from a ram. She had large black wings spewing from her back and a lot of black clothing upon her frame. "Father...what is this? A meeting of sorts?" the woman spoke. She was just as confused as the stranger before her. She was quite unsure how to take this encounter. But she knew that whatever Amerald had in mind, it was for their best interest. She trusted him with her life.
The second was much shorter than the first, only reaching about 5'7" or so. She had pale blue skin and long wavy, white hair. Her eyes were glistening pools of crystal blue and upon her head were three very light blue feathers stretching forth. Her clothing was much more light and airy, it seemed that the gown just fluttered down her fragile frame. She too, had large wings growing from her back and feathers fluttering up her arms. "Dad, is this woman another one of your future experiments? Oh! I'm sorry! It's really nice to meetcha miss! I don't get to meet a whole lotta people, so this is much more fascinating than reading a book! I'm Amelia and this is my sister, Annabelle! It's a pleasure!" she said, extremely happy and peppy-like. She was just so bubbly and hyper, it was as though her beautiful face contained a thirteen year olds brain. She just seemed much more immature.
"These are my daughters, Sati. This is the experiment I need to continue." he stated. Now there was no going back. She had to keep his secret. He was digging this hole deeper and deeper. Not too much wiggle room now. He felt he could trust this woman though, something inside of him allowed him to do this much. He was still quite unsure, but over all, he hoped for the best.
