Heh, wow, I usually don't have this many problems. Anyways.

I have a friend that's a compulsive liar. She's also scitsophrenic (sp?). Last year, she went around telling people some rather bad, and extremely unbelievable things about her life. One of those was that her brother raped her. I know him, and their family, and I don't think he would do that. Normally, I really wouldn't care what she tells others, but apparently this has gotten to the police. Now another friend of mine has been interviewed about a plan they supposedly made up to protect the brother. I really don't want to see her brother get in trouble for something he didn't do. Neither my friend nor I know anything about this "plan". I don't know what to do. She's told me about this before, but she's told me alot of things that weren't true before. I'm just kind of lost...

You should talk to your friend about this. She may not realize that she's like that. If she does't listen to you, and even if she does, you should try and get help for her. Talk to a school counciller or someone that could help about your friend.

She's going through therapy and all that junk now. Meds and all that fun stuff. Technically, I don't even think I'm supposed to know, but she told me some of this stuff last year. I know she realizes what she's doing because there have been times where her step-sister (another of my friends) has gotten on to her for lieing.

first off, how do you know that they are lies? Surprisingly enough the most unexpected people tend to rape. I know that for a fact.

But lets just say she is lying. I'll say this is a call for attention. SHe might've been neglected all her life and all she really wants is someone to hold onto and tell her they care. That was me because NO ONE paid attention to me for 11 years and i was getting god damn sick of it. Now I really do have that problem and its all because no one paid attention.
Either THAT or shes just really ******** up and needs her mind straightened out.

As I said in my first post, she's skitsophrenic (however that's spelled). A lot of her lies stem from the alternate personalities. It's just she's said he did it, and then nothing has ever happened, and then he did it. Plus, originally, she included her dad in the supposed rape. She's said stuff like she's in the witness protection program and that her parents weren't her real parents and other junk that later became obviously untrue. She is really messed up in the head, we all know it. I really don't think her brother going to jail for something he probably didn't do will help. Draging us into it doesn't help either.

Has she been diagnosed with schizophrenia? If so, then that's one thing. If not, she's just a compulsive lier. Most of the time schizophrenics don't remember things that happened to their other personalities or refer to their actions to themselves. It'd be more like "Shannon did ...." instead of "I did ...."

If you still want her as a friend, then offer her support. If not, or you're just sick of the lies, then tell her that you can't be friends with someone like that.

Mreow, people always confuse schizophrenia with split-personality disorder. There is a huge difference. Schizophrenia is when someone switches emotions quickly and is considered extremely warped. Split-Personality Disorder is when they actually developed a split-personality to match their most desired thoughts. Mreow, trust me, I know this.

Mreow, your friend is a compulsive liar. They seem to only want people's sympathy and nothing more. I say that you tell the cops about her excessive lying, and then let them deal with it. As for talking to your friend, I'd have to say that it is better that you don't. She will try to make you out to be the bad guy and then you will get arrested somehow. Mreow, safest bet is to leave her be.

this is very much so annoying me, in this post you people must be gettin schizophrena and MPD (multi-personatlity Disorder) also known as DID mixed up. A common misconception, schizophrena is where the individual has visual or auditory hallucinations, i.e. hearing voices BUT NOT having alternative personalities and MPD is when one in fact has more then one personatliy, whether they be known to the actual person or not. In this post you have referred to MPD as schizophrena, so I'm just curious as to whether she has MPD or schizophrena...

I do apologise but in reading this you are also far from what schizophrenia is, as i said in my post above it is visual or auditory hallucinations along side which could be emotional instability, switching of emotions quickly sounds more like manic depression...sorry to say i would feel sorry for your patients if you ever became a psychiatrist...

She has legally been diagnosed with schizophrenia. Legally insane, or so she says. She spent the first month or so of school in an asylum and halfway house. I don't know all the details, just what I hear from her and her step-sis.

Mreow, so I was wrong, no harm no foul. I am no shrink, so I wouldn't know completely. Mreow, I'm just a writer who developes multiple personalities, then discards them once I'm done.

Mreow, I still say that you should stay away from her.

Bleh, I guess it is a common misconception. My cousin is schizophrenic, and one of his symptoms was multiple personalities. Hence, I combined the two.

Mreow, I do the same thing at times, but then my psychology teacher gets mad.

I'm trying to distance myself from her and trying to get my other friend away from her. It's just really difficult because we're really good friends with her step-sister so she's ALWAYS there.

If her lies stem from a medical condition, and she herself is willing to admit that when she's not feeling ill, this needs to be documented and given to the police. She's a sick person, so there's no cause blaming her for what she has no control over. But it would be a shame if her condition caused serious problems for someone else, like her brother. If everyone around her knows that she tells stories, they cannot cause harm. At the same time, steps must be taken to keep her out of harm's way, because if she ever gets into REAL trouble people may be hesitant to believe her because of this. As for you wanting to distance yourself from her... well, I can't really blame you for that. Disease or no disease, it must be very difficult to deal with someone like that.
