Art museums, thought Lucy, were supposed to be pretty cool. She thought they were pretty cool just like Mama said. Papa was pretty proud of her for thinking these things were cool, he thought culture was paramount and she wanted Papa to be proud of her so she was toughing it out. And pretending that old dead guy's paintings were interesting. And not eating in the museum even though she had a bag of honey roasted peanuts in her little backpack. (It was a pretty cute backpack, shaped like a black cat with big yellow eyes, and, well. It held more than honey-roasted peanuts.)

She didn't really like wandering around; her feet hurt, and her shoes pinched, and there wasn't anyone interesting to talk to, just normal people. Really what she wanted was another Herald, maybe Miss Guin. Or even someone else with wings who could sympathize over the difficulties of sculpture gardens when your wingspan was wider than your outstretched arms. "Bored," she sighed, standing on the bench to look at the people. There was Papa, loitering by the door. And--

Wings! She clambered down from her perch and clacked across the giant hall to grab the little winged boy's hands. "Hey," she said, loudly, shattering the quiet murmuring of the gallery. "You have wings! I have wings too!"

Papa was heading her way, looking embarrassed, but Lucy's molten-gold eyes were intensely focused. "I'm Lucretzia Langlois, but you should call me Lucy," she said.

Raeburn liked art museums lots, he'd been discovering. This was the third he'd made a visit to in a week (although it had taken some cajoling on his part - Sadie was not a big museum-visitor, apparently, and she had only brought him to the first one because she was planning an essay around an artist whose work had been being displayed there.). He liked wandering through the halls filled with history, well-thought-out color schemes and painting that he someday hoped he'd be able to match in skill. Or maybe he just liked how peaceful they were, without anyone bugging you to eat your lunch already, or to hurry up, because Sadie knew how to appreciate art too.

Just not to the levels that Raeburn appreciated it. He sniffed, gazing at a painting that took up the majority of the wall that hosted it. Now this was pretty - it was an image of a large fountain with couples conversing on the many steps it ran down. Briefly he wondered why there weren't any scenes like this in the coloring books Sadie had lying around her home. That definitely would've interested him more than her silly princess dresses.

He sighed in silent reverance as he gazed up at the - woah what on earth who was shouting and also who was touching him? He did not appreciate having his hands grabbed at all. The tiny messenger reborn tried to jerk his hands away from Lucy's grasp, aiming his best glare at her. Those oranges in her hair were just as loud and obnoxious as her voice was.

"What are you doing?" he hissed, blue eyes narrowing in suspicion. Why did everyone think wings were some sort of thing they could hold in common? Ugh. Even his...mother of sorts seemed to think it was some sort of shared experience or something. It wasn't like having wings was a hobby; he certainly disliked the painful itching in his back when they'd first begun to show up and he certainly did not think that it was something anyone would discuss at a museum where they could be doing something much better, like learning from the masterpieces before them.

Oh god, Sadie thought. "Raeburn, introduce yourself!" she whispered, squatting to reach his eye level. "Lucy's just excited." She had no idea why her kid was so antisocial. She hadn't been that grumpy when she was, uh, his age, right? However old he was.

Raeburn glanced over his shoulders. "My wings aren't nearly as exciting as this," he told the other Herald, gesturing grandly at the painting before them. He didn't introduce himself.

He didn't seem to be nice at all, noted Lucy, her orange eyes narrowing a little as she tucked her wings in closer. But her smile never faltered, even as she tempered the volume level on her voice down from nine to museum quiet. And she didn't let go of his hands for a long moment, until he went to gesture at the painting.

"I'm making friends," she said obstinately, her chin tipping up a bit. People were more interesting than boring old paintings, and besides, he had such pretty wings; they were the color of a rainbow, pretty and smooth in gradient. She kind of wanted to touch them, but knew that, at least, was a no-no. Mostly because she hated it when her wings were touched, but. It was really the thought that counted, especially as Lucy could hardly be said to really employ her thoughts. "And looking at the paintings," she added belatedly. "I like that one."

She indicated a painting of a very, very tall girl in a strange outfit, surrounded by fans. "It's pretty," she explained.

Making friends? But they'd only just met! Raeburn's wings fluttered as he narrowed his eyes in expression. Maybe people that were bigger than him made friends more quickly. Now there was a thought. At least she could be more quiet though.

He turned to observe the painting she'd indicated. "That one's nice," he conceded. "The colors look beautiful next to each other." He pronounced beautiful slowly, bee-you-tee-full. He liked colors that worked well next to each other. "And the fans are nice." Raeburn liked being able to talk about paintings. Sadie would usually give him a lengthy ramble or else talk about cute stuff. Raeburn did not like cute stuff. He had no idea why Sadie did.

He peered at Lucy. She really was very orange. Even her wings were orange - if only they were toned down just a little bit. It was such a bright color.

She considered the painting a little more deeply for a minute. From here, it looked very nice, but if she stepped forward she thought it would probably be a lot of splotches on the canvas that didn't really look like anything. (It was a Monet; what could anyone expect?) "It's pretty," she repeated after a very long moment. "I don't like the colors because they are so dull. They aren't like gemstones at all. Dragons are supposed to hoard gemstones, you know, and also swords. I never heard of a dragon that hoards paintings."

It was true. She really hadn't.

"There's a prettier painting out of the hall," she said, swiveling to point. Her lack of respect for other's personal space was blatantly displayed as she snatched at Raeburn's hand again, clutching it in both of hers. "Come see!" Without waiting for either of their guardians, she hauled back on his hand, intending to drag him to see the much more colorful piece.

"Gemstones are gaudy," Raeburn was beginning to argue. "I don't see why anyone puts gemstones in a frame; they look bad and - and - "

And then he was being hauled off, down the hall with an orange-haired girl he hardly even knew. He struggled, of course, but Lucy was strong and Raeburn was small and he'd just been reborn and he was still not quite physically fit. He'd liked that other room.

"I think the colors clash," he said immediately upon seeing the painting. The painter had been skilled, of course, but it had to be understood that almost no one painted from life. (Clearly Raeburn had never heard of his namesake.) "But I don't see what dragons have to do with anything," he added at last. "We're not dragons."

He tugged on her hand to see if she'd let go.
