Mut:
The salty sent of the ocean was heavy in the air. They were close, but no so much that it was in clear view. Clouds had begun to gather overhead threatening to pour rain uppon the dry thirsty lands below, possibly even a stome. The land was illuminated by an eerie dim green/grey light as the evening sun still hung in the sky.

A storm was a refreshing experience Mutes thought, always had. It was no surrpise that he took to walking the lands in his mortal mask admiring the dark clouds above.

Jelani:
: Jelani, on the other hand, moved quickly to avoid the incoming storm. He loped through the tall beachgrass, his golden sides providing him with the perfect camoflauge in such a terrain. His good eye narrowed as the sky above roared and a flash of light tore across the growing darkness. He could smell the growing moisture, the electricity in the air had the hair of his mane standing upright and chills running down his back.

He hated the rain. While it brought life to the lands it passed over, it was damn annoying none the less.

He'd been directed to the sea, apparently there was a god or goddess that lived within the lands here and governed over a pride of mortal subjects. Perhaps that was the case, perhaps not. He'd know when he got there.

Mut:
: The quick sound of the shifting grass caused Mutes' ears to twitch. It was somewhat hard to pinpoint the exact location of the sound due to the louder sounds of nature. It could have been nothing more than fleeing prey...

Mutes paused as he looked back over his shoulder. "..."

Jelani:
Jelani paused, one of his chewed ears rolled slowly to the side. A scent... a familar one at that.

He growled, a sound that mirrored the angry sky above. More often than not, familar scents were from former enemies. He kept no friends, allowed not fond attatchments. Such connections were anchors. He knew all too well how anyone could be manipulated through the ties on their heart.

"...show yourself." He ordered.

Mut:
Mutes' noes wrinkled at the familiar voice. A subtle rush of wind from the storm confirmed his suspicions of whom he now shared the area with. This was the same lion that tried to consume Peace. His brow furrowed as his claws gripped at the ground.

"What busyness do you have here worm?" Mutes growled in response to Jelani.

Jelani:
Worm? The lion gave the masked god a good look over, his dead eye blazing dangerously from the shadow of his skull mask. He hulked his shoulders upwards, giving him a much larger, more demanding appearence.

"Oh? Is this your territory then? I must have missed the markers."

Mut:
"Answer my question..."

Games with this cur were not an option. Mutes had a good guess that whatever -he- was up to could not have been good for anyone. His own shoulders raised for the same affect, making his own large appearance seem larger. Golden eyes locked onto Jelani's own blazing eyes.

Jelani:
"And what makes you think you can demand such an answer from me?" He lifted a brow and tipped his head to one side, eying the rival male with his good eye. "From what I see, we are just two travelers on our way... It would be wise that you allow me to continue on my way, least there be one less traveler on his way...and one more corpse to make the buzzards fat."

Mut:
"It would be wise of you to answer my question, lest it be your corpse rotting."

In a normal circumstance that would have been true, but none of them were normal travelers. And Mutes was no fool. This lion's motives were clear from the first time the shared an encounter.

Jelani:
The lion chuckled, his maw slowly pulling and curling into a smirk, then a grin. His corpse? His?! Soon the chuckling broke into a wild, unbridled fit of laughter.

"Ah thank you, I needed that." He reached a paw up and wiped under his good eye, pretending to flick a single tear away. "Now if you excuse me-"

Mut:
Mutes watched in silence as Jelani carried out his laughter fit. When it was all over he boldly moved into Jelani's path.

"You are a fool." His claws flexed as he readied for the inevitable.

Jelani:
Jelani's easy walk tensed, a single paw raised to continue his heavy trudge forward. He slowly looked up, the humor melting from his features. The paw slowly rolled around, claws slowly shooting out from the velvety pads. His lips curled into a snarl. This...lion...dared to step in his way.

"... sir. I will give you one last chance. If you do not step aside, I will be forced to spend the rest of the afternoon having to clean your blood from my pelt. And that would delay my progress. Move. Aside."

Mut:
Mutes held his ground. His frown deepened. "You have yet to answer my question."

A flash of lightning illuminated the area closely followed by a rumble of thunder. The clouds finally begun to drop a slow trickle of rain upon the land which quickened and intensified with the passing moments.

Jelani:
"It's none of your concern." He rumbled, eyes blazing dangerously. With a powerful lunge forward, the lion brought his paw outwards, his entire shoulder rolling to send an explosion of power into the blow behind his claws. A roar thundered out, loud enough to compete with the angry sky above as yellow stained fangs flashed in the dim light.

Mut:
Mutes roared as he too charged forward as well putting his bulk and force into his right paw. His white fangs and and claws flashed brilliantly even in such dim light. The clouds finally gave way and with a clasp of thunder a torrential rain was released upon the combatants.

Jelani:
The two collided, hitting blow for blow as they were forced back onto their hind legs. Their paws flashed through the air, claws meeting heavy bulk, clawing through mane and flesh. Their roars collided with the thunderclaps in the sky, mingling in the chaos above.

The pain seemed to spur the male on, his eyes blazed as an unworldly, crazed look came over him. The blood spilling down his sides and his heavily scarred flesh only seemed to infuriate him further. He long abandoned his intolerance for pain. Between his curse and his brush with death, very little could detour him in combat.

Mut:
His own drive for this fight was quite different. Li needed to be protected from the threat this lion posed on his tasks and his own life. The harder Jelani seemed to fight the harder Mutes fought as well, pushing his full weight against his opponent aiming to overpower him. The pain from the battle did nothing to denture him from the obvious goal, victory and life. Mutes refrained from changing back into his godly form until the final stages of this fight.

Jelani:
Jelani had no real strategy to his combat style. It was all raw, angry power being thrown out blow after blow, undetoured and unbridled. One might even think the pain amused him, or even delighted him. He'd thirsted for death for a long time, years upon years. The scars covering his left side had hardened, leaving some of his flesh completely exposed. Some of his muscles had grown tighter as a result of the injury. There were days when walking became a chore.

"Is this really worth it!?" He laughed over, throwing another hammering blow out for the rival male's jaw. "You'll challenge me to know where I go!? FOOL!"

Mut:
Mutes wasted no breath in explaining his motives for the attack, to defend Li. His focus was solely on defeating this lion. When the blow was aimed at his jaw Mutes moved to bite the arm of the paw being thrown at him. His arms readied to defend against and retaliation from this attack.

Jelani:
Jelani didn't so much as snarl as the fangs sank into his paw. The lion slowly leaned forward, eyes narrowed as his smile widened.

"Having fun are you? Satisfied? You young bloods...picking fights to earn a name for for themselves." He threw a paw up, claws aimed for his rival's eyes.

Mut:
Mutes quickly released the arm from his bite. As the blow came for his eyes Mutes ducked than leapt forward with his paws aimed for Jelani's throat. Aside from refusing to comment on any of Jelani's claims he also refused to reveal his true self to such a low life during the fight. What must have been running through this creature's dark mind, why he was getting so much pleasure from this, was nothing short of a sure sign of his insanity.

Jelani:
As the lion made a move for his throat, Jelani dipped his head and met the crown of the male's head with his own, bashing the edge of his bone mask right in-between the male's eyes. The bite wound in his paw bled horribly, but he didn't seem to notice it in the least. While he'd thirsted for peace, it wasn't something he'd easily give away. Not to an amateur such as this.

Mut:
Mutes growled at the impact of the blow from his opponents skull mask. A bit of blood rolled down his forehead from the cut he received from the blow. Uncomfortable, but not enough to slow him down either. Again he shot his claws into Jelani's neck as he pressed his weight against the lion.

Jelani:
Jelani's head was thrown to one side and he was forced to catch himself on one paw from the sheer ferocity of the blow. He slowly looked up and ran his tongue along his bloodied maw.

"You'll continue this then will you? Hammer away, you'll grow weary while I still stand..."

Mut:
Mute roared as he brought his paw down on the right side of Jelani's face. Starting from the ear and aiming to scoop under the mask with his claws. There was no amusement to the comment as there was ambition to prove the words wrong. He had already determined this one could take a harsh beating and was by all means tougher than any mortal lion he had ever encountered.

Jelani:
The mask went flying off in a spray of blood and fur. Jelani slowly turned back towards Mut as a fresh stream of blood trailed from four long gauges trailing down his face. He slowly brought his paw up to wipe the blood from his fur.

"....damn. This will be a long night of grooming."

Turning back to Mut he lunged outwards, bringing both paws out to anchor into his foe's flesh and drag him downwards with a hard, forceful shove.

Mut:
Mutes didn't stop to celebrate his strike on the lion, instead he regained his balance and readied another attack. When Jelani's anchor paws came at his flesh once again Mutes ducked to the right hoping to use the 'blind' side as an advantage for his next move. Not waiting a step he moved to tackle and pin Jelani to the ground.

Jelani:
Jelani fumbled, blood blinding his only useful eye. The lion blinked hard and swore, only to have the other lion's weight falling on his shoulders again. He felt the ground slam against him, cooling the fresh injuries.

He snarled and threw his paws up, aiming to send another hammerblow into the other male's jaw.

Mutes:
Mutes ducked to avoid the blow to the jaw. At the same time he pressed harder into his opponent. His paw than moved to Jelani's neck. Mutes weight shifted so most of the pressure was on that paw to cease the flow of air. When Jelani stopped struggling Mutes released his paw. It was not his task to end this one's life, though it was quite tempting.

"....."

Without a closing word Mutes walked past the lion and continued on his own way. If he survived the predators here there must be a greater purpose to his presence. The lighting had calmed, but the rain still poured mercilessly on the land.
