Hello everyone! I don't think of myself as the next Edgar Allen Poe or Robert Frost, but I do enjoy writing poetry. I haven't been in the mood to write any recently, but I found some poems I wrote a little over a year ago in my 8th grade English class for a project. It was a super lucky find, because I thought they were lost when my computer was wiped out.
Lucky lucky lucky.

The Ballad of Blood and Gut James

A crazy tale was told,
Across the battle fields of old.
Of a man who possessed no shames,
And they called him Blood and Gut James.

A soldier he was, stood with his head held high,
He wasn't the sort of person you could just pass by.
He was not built real wide, nor was he the wiry kind,
He was just the sort of person you're not likely to ever find.

A man of no shames, that Blood and Gut James

He'd charge into battle, a cry on his lips.
His musket aimed right above the enemy's hips.
They weren't frightened so much by his fighting skill,
Than the gleam in his eye when he got the kill.

A man of no shames, that Blood and Gut James

One sorry night, that James did meet,
A fellow who was quite more discreet.
He snuck up on James with his musket in hand,
And shot a bullet right through out blood and guts man.

A man of no shames, that Blood and Gut James

So now his sorry fetish was turned back on him,
And being the man he was, he started to grin.
"Would you look at me now, what a sorry state.
Alas I'm another who will no evade fate."

A man of no shames, that Blood and Gut James

He lived up to his name that crazy man did,
That was one thing you could not kid.
He killed one and all and his desires he filled,
But in the end it was his own blood and guts that was spilled.

Ulysses (Epic poem - shortened ver.)

Fort Donelson lay in sight,
Confederate troops at the ready to defend.
An image of victory fleeted in the brigadier general's vision for only a moment,
But he knew they would be victorious.
A shout and a signal and his men were, too, at the ready,
Muskets raised and aimed to shoot.
Shots were fired, back and forth, littering the sky with their debris.
"No terms except an unconditional and immediate surrender can be accepted."
Were the words from Ulysses that led to the victory they knew they earned.

Ode to the Moon

The softly waning arc
Shattering the dark.
Lighting the way
Until the break of day.

The fugitives they cry
While the night is high.
It's beautifully carving slope
Brings the desperate hope.

Oh moon, because of you
They will make it through.
Their leader's eyes are bright
As she sees your white light.

You illuminate the show,
So please promise not to go.
Moon.

The Abolitionist

Cruelty, pushed to the side.
But not forgotten, for there are those who help them hide.
Defenders, fugitives we lead.
From those owners, stop the fear from which they feed.
Avengers of the lives that were claimed,
Reassuring it won't happen again.

Mirrors

Like a mirror, we are look not at but through.
The reflection in the mirror shows us beaten and abused.
The edge of the mirror, we are the rough back side.
just like the mirror, we cannot hide.
Like a mirror, we are under your possession.
Yet unlike the mirror, we've had enough of your obsession.

Cemetery Hill

Atop a hill one sees all,
Union soldiers standing their ground,
Confederates who wish to take it.
The blood and the carnage littering the field,
And the wounded accompanied by stretchers.
The generals in their tent, arguing strategies,
Guns firing loudly over the sounds of shouting,
And the cold deathly faces of those who died for this country.
All atop Cemetery Hill.

A Letter to my Angel

The war is finally over darling.
But images of your return are gone.
Never will I see your bright face smiling.
Never will we wake together at dawn.

I waited for your steps to grace my ears.
But when I heard the sound it was not you.
A haggard soldier looked at me with tears.
His face told me my doubt had come true.

My angels truly is in heaven now.
Please smile at me from your perch up above.
I feel you're here with me and wonder how.
But I realize there's no such bond as love.
My dear I promise we will meet again.
The time you and I lost we will spend.

The Moses of her People

A mellow spiritual sound floating through those ears,
One that signals an escape from their fears.
One that will take them away from the dread,
One that will lift them upwards instead.

Praise the woman standing in front of you,
She bravely stands to lead you through.
She is the key to your flying free,
For she sees signals others do not see.

She is the Moses of her people, singing true,
A tune that's filled with promises to you.
A tune that will light your way,
Please promise you'll remember her someday.
