While she would normally be out and about at this time of the day, Fleurite found herself lazing under the shade of a huge tree in the forest on this particular day instead. The heat was making it tiring and uncomfortable to move about, and although she had no idea how she got there in the first place, the fluttercorn soon found her spot under the shade a great place to rest and relax for a change. Besides, the gentle sound of running water from the nearby river helped to relax her; so much had happened in the past week that perhaps a day off from her usual schedule might do her some good.

Shifting her position a little, she moved her tail to curl up beside her body, smiling at the flowers she had attached to it; when she was still a foal, she had often admired her darling mother's long and beautiful hair... When her own hair had grown out as an adolescent, she was delighted to find that she had inherited some of her mother's beauty.

Of course, on hot days like this one, long, thick hair only adds to the discomfort.

Kagali stood in-between two trees. the shadows coming from their branches matched the patterns in her coat perfectly. she was absolutely motionless. before her was another soquili. it had small wings and a horn that she had heard belonged to unicorns. the mare was pretty, and dark in color. truly a dark beauty. Kagali had been watching her from the moment the mare entered the forest. it was by pure luck that the mare had not spotted her already, for she had practically sat right infront of Kagali.

Kagali analyzed the mare with her piercing blue eyes. the mare was tired, most likely from the heat. she also seemed to be tired of spirit. this sparked Kagali's interest. normally she would have snuck away unnoticed and forgotten about the mare, but something held her in her place. Kagali was always careful to never look directly at someone for that would give away her hiding place. right now she was staring at the mares tail. after a quick mental scuffle she decided she wanted to know more about this mare. she shifted her gaze so that she was looking directly into the mare's eyes.

She yawned, feeling sleepy now that she was fully relaxed. The sound of running water soon became hypnotic, and her eye lids started to droop. However, she soon felt a little uneasy, like there was someone watching her... The events that happened earlier this week flooded her mind, and she shivered at the thought of it happening again. She shifted about nervously, climbing up as she scanned her surroundings, eyes searching for whoever might be about.

Her eyes landed on a small figure a small distance away, a dull grey foal unlike anything she had seen before - instead of a normal tail, this one sprouted one like a deer. For a split second, their eyes met. Almost instinctively, Fleurite smiled; foals don't make her nervous the way grown Soquilis do. They just have that air of innocence around them... Well, most of them anyway.

"Hello," Her smile widened as she nodded at the foal, inviting her to join her under the tree, "What are you doing there?"

Kagali didnt move. this mare was not mad that she had been watching her? for a split second she was frightened and wanted to run. her instincts told her to run as fast as she can and hide. to remain hidden until no one was around and she was safe. Kagali turned and ran a few paces, but stopped and looked back at the mare. she obviosly meant to harm, so why was Kagali running? she turned back and walked right up to the mare with her head held high.

she walked right up to the mare. with no respect for personal space Kagali stuck her face right into the mares. "hello, i was watching you and you did not see me. not until i looked at you. it was fun." she took a step back and smiled at the mare as she studied the little wings and horn.

She chuckled softly as the filly moved towards her, glad that it was just a foal and not someone with malicious intent. Although the filly looked frightened at first, Fleurite was glad to note that it was only temporary. Smiling, the fluttercorn relaxed again before blinking, moving her head back a little when the foal stuck her face in front of her own. She then lowered herself to be at the filly's eye level before shaking her head, "Don't do that so suddenly! If I had jerked out of surprise, my horn would have seriously hurt you..."

Straightening up, she then lowered her body and laid down on the grass again. Using a hoof, she patted the space in front of her, gesturing for the filly to join her, "Indeed you were! You're good at hiding, aren't you? My name is Fleurite, but most call me Fleur... What is your name?"

Kagali felt a little upset at the caution Fleur had given her. she felt like she was being scolded, but she wasent even sure why, so she let the feeling pass and forgot about it. she eyed the horn and sat down in the grass in front of the pretty mare. "yes your horn does look a little sharp. i bet you could poke some real eyes out if you werent careful. my mom is always getting mad at my brother cause he runs too fast and his horns just came in. she is afraid that he will trip and hurt someone."

Kagali nodded and leaned forward. she sniffed gingerly at the mare and smiled. "you smell like flowers. i like flowers. i like the smell of them in the morning when there is water on them. but i like the smell of dirt too. did you know that if you sit still long enough things forget that you are there and they will act like they dont see you. i had been sitting by that tree there for a long time, almost since morning and so far a skunk and a fox passed me. a bird landed next to my feet to get a worm that had poked up. you came and sat right in front of me. it works really well. dad dosent like it when i hide though. he gets mad and sometimes i wonder if he could ever get mad enough to eat me."

Kagali stopped and gave the mare a dirty look. "but i never said this, i should not be talking to strangers. but you seem nice even if you have a horn on your forhead, which seems like an odd place to put a horn. i wish i had horns, its not fair. my dad has horns and my brother has horns, not like my dads, their horns are different. if i had horns i would want them to be like dads, they are golden and curve around his head. my brothers has two points and poke out by his ears. my brother even got my dads teeth. if i had nice teeth like that i could...i could...i dont even know but they look real pretty when he smiles. my momma says that i was blessed to have been born pure, but i look so plain." she snorted and looked at the ground her ears pinned back to her head. she did not mean to talk so much but it was just coming out. "sometimes words make themselves and then just come out. im Kagali Lillian. i was named after the moon phase my mom calls the Bone Moon, and then Lillian is passed to the girls in the family. the boys get horns and i just get a name."

The mare nodded briefly, "It always pays to be careful." She paused, blinking curiously when she mentioned horns on her brother; does it mean that she is of mixed blood? It was like how her sister and herself has wings, but her brother doesn't have them. Before she could ask, the filly continued, and Fleurite felt obliged to listen.

"Ah yes, flowers do smell lovely in the morning! You're right... The morning dew makes it smell even sweeter that usual." She commented with a smile, before chuckling, "It seems like you have quite the talent for hiding! Talents are important things, and they are given to you, so use them well!" Her smile quickly faded into a horrified frown at the mention of the filly's father. Her voice changed to one of concern, "Eat you? Oh dear... Why would he?"

She then chuckled lightly, "Oh dear, thats' true... You shouldn't be talking to strangers!" Pausing, the fluttercorn then blushed slightly, "Thank you... I'm half a unicorn and half a flutter - the horn is from the unicorn blood I have in me, and these wings-" She wiggled her small wings before continuing, "-Are from the flutter blood. My brother doesn't have wings, but he does have a horn... He's still my precious brother, and I love him although we don't stay together."

From what she said, Fleurite was sure that the filly was of mixed blood. She then shook her head, lowering her head to be on eye level with the filly, "Kagali, you're precious as you are! You might not have the horns or teeth your brother has, but you are you and he is he. Simplicity is beauty - I think you're really pretty, and I think you'll grow up to be beautiful! Names are important - Just like I'm a Fleurite and you're a Kagali Lillian." She then leaned in, giving the filly a gentle nuzzle on her cheek, "Besides, I don't think you're plain at all - at least not on the inside. Just by talking to you, I can tell that you're colorful in a good way on the inside... And in the long run, that's what counts!"

Kagali blushed at the flutters compliment. she never really stopped to talk to people so the only one to ever compliment her was her family. she quickly changed the subject back into a more comfortable one to talk about. "so you are a halfy too. my dad is kind that ive herd called Kalona, or something like that. my mom dosent call him that though. she tries to hide the fact that people arnt nice to him, but i see it, cause i hide and hear things. my mom is cerynei, like a deer but better. she says thats why i dont have horns is because only the boys get them." she shifter her position into a more comfortable one and then continued. "both mom and dad are nice though. my dad even eats grass, even though it hurts his stomach. they are trying to teach my brother to eat grass too, but i dont know if it hurts him or not. they act like its not a big deal and that everyone eats grass...is there anything to eat but grass?" she looked at Fleur expectantly.

"A halfy?" The female echoed before pausing; she had never heard that term before, but it sounds like the short form for 'half-blooded' something... Which she is. She then nodded, "Yes, yes I am."

As Kagali spoke on, the fluttercorn looked taken aback for a second, but quickly regained her composure, smiling as she replied, "Well, a Kalona normally eats meat - smaller animals such as rabbits, for example - because I guess its easier part of who they are? Just like how foxes hunt other animals to eat; its a part of their diet." Her smile then widened, "However, like your father, there are always those who choose to break the stereotypes - that is, they eat more vegetation than they do meat. Perhaps next time your father does that, you could encourage him? He's very brave! Its not easy for a Kalona to eat only grass! Like you said, it does hurt them..."

She paused, then shook her head, "Beware of most other Kalonas though. There are some really nasty ones who wouldn't mind making a meal out of you! Then again, you seem to be really good at hiding so I'm sure you'll be able to stay out of harm's way!"

Kagali grinned. "i am a super good hider." she stood up and looked around. "maybe one day ill learn how to climb a tree like a squirrel or a cat." she sat back down and shook her short mane out. "when i hide i learn things. i learn a lot of things, even some things that i know im not supposed to know so i dont tell. i like it when no one can see me. i wasent going to talk to you. i was going to sit and watch you until you left, or until it got dark and i could sneak off. you looked tired though. not really tired, but like inside of you was tired. what is it?" she blinked and stared at Fleur expectantly not really understanding that it might be rude to probe into others personally business.

"Yes, you are," The fluttercorn mare chuckled before raising an eye brow, clearly amused, "Well, climbing trees can be tricky, I think, but maybe with lots of practice, you can! Do be careful and try not to break anything on yourself though!"

She looked taken aback by the filly's question, and smiled sheepishly, "Hm, well..." She paused, wondering how she was supposed to get her week's story across to a foal - her eyes then lit up, and she grinned; that's it! A story! Fleurite then continued, speaking faster than before due to her excitement, "There is this story I made that was inspired by what happened to me recently... Do you want to hear it?"

Kagali smiled and shifted into a more comfortable position. "i do love stories. please tell me. i promise ill sit really quite and i wont interrupt!" her little fawns tail wiggled with excitement and then she grew really still. so still that it was hard to tell if she was even breathing. she waited to here the story of the beautiful, but tired mare.

"Early one morning, a small mare was out in these very woods on her usual morning walk," Fleurite begun, a small smile on her lips as she spoke, "It was a really foggy morning, and it was difficult to see even two steps ahead. Afraid of getting hurt or lost in the fog, she decided to head home... Even then, she was relying on her instincts since her eyes were unable to guide her."

Her voice suddenly turned darker and softer, until it was almost a whisper, "Then suddenly, she could see a silhouette heading towards her; it was much taller than she was, and frightened, the mare stopped, hoping for the stranger to leave..." She paused for a second, then shook her head, "He didn't - instead, the stranger spotted her through the fog and demanded for her to answer his questions."

Adopting a deeper, angrier voice, her nostrils flared as she continued, "Had there been vanishings in the forest? Soquilis who perished? Answer me!"

Then, as quickly as she had flared up, Fleurite calmed down, shivering as she spoke in a fearful voice, "N-Not that I k-know of, s-sir..."

She then went back to her original story-teller voice, "The stallion refused to let the mare go. He forced her to bring him around in search of the 'vanishings', pushing her whenever she wanted to stop. Just as she thought the stallion was going to strike out at her out of frustration, an usdia stallion appeared. Despite being so small, he was brave and had a big heart."

She grinned, her voice becoming lower as she exclaimed, "Hey there, I know of these vanishings you speak of, and I will lead you there."

Speaking darkly again, this time her tone serious and severe, she growled, "You better; try and betray me, and I will snap your back."

Fleurite paused again, frowning slightly, "The usdia readily agreed, although he looked unsettled at the stallion's threat. He led the tall stallion and the small mare to this place that smelled like a rotting, decaying swamp, stopping where the smell was too terrible to bear. The stallion warned them not to follow, and walked further into the smelly area... Allowing the mare to be free at last."

Kagali listened in awe to the mares story. she really liked how Fleur would change voices and make the characters come to life. it was a quick story, but she could feel the fear of the mare in the fog. "wow, im sure glad that tall stallion left you. i wonder if he was one of those bad Kalonas you was talking about." Kagali shivered and looked around for any tall figures who could be hiding behind trees. "Fleur what would have happened if the small stallion hadn't shown up. would the tall one have hurt you?"

Kagali had never been beaten before, but she could imagine what it feels like. sometimes when her dad got mad he would get really close and shout. she knew what it felt like to be afraid and she felt bad for Fleur. "if im ever watching something like that, im gonna be like the short stallion and try and help."

"He was a regular stallion," The female nodded gravely before offering the filly a small smile, "Just like there are nice Kalonas, there are nasty regulars too - you just have to trust your instincts when judging someone! You can never judge a book by its cover, after all!" At the next question, Fleurite's smile faded and she paused, rolling her shoulders in a loose shrug.

"I'm not sure, Kagali," She replied, shaking her head as she continued, "But I think so, yes. He reared up like he was going to hit me - the small stallion appeared just in time to stop him."

The fluttercorn looked surprised for a second, before chuckling softly. Smiling, she nudged Kagali gently on her cheek, "That's real brave of you! However, if you think you can't win, it might be good to seek more help - apart from bravery, being smart is important too!"
