Her side had gotten cold some time ago when Tirin had left the den to do his rounds of night time border checks. But even so Sauda stayed sleeping within the den, a content smile plastered across her maw. They had started sharing a den shortly after their trip to the cliffs, and from that time and grown closer and closer. It had been a bit challenging at first, neither of them had been used to sharing their living space with another, but those things were easily overcome. Besides with what was to come for them those little differences would become so insignificant.
Cracking her eyes open Sauda let out a yawn, tongue curling in her mouth. It was still dark outside yet the first tendrils of the mornings light were beginning to filter through the trees. Stretching out her legs Sauda pulled herself out from the den. Giving her fur a shake Sauda took a deep breath and sitting down not far from the den entrance she closed her eyes and waited for the sun to warm her. Hopefully Tirin would not be running late today, for she wished so badly to see him and tell him the good news, or at least what she believed was to be good news as Sauda was no expert in this field. Perhaps she should have talked to Tal first. No, even with being unsure it was best to tell Tirin first, then she could seek out Tal and Tar.

He was going to be glad to get back to the den. Nothing ever happened on his patrol, and Tirin often wondered if Sanctity wasn't so far off in the woods as to be removed from other wolf packs entirely. The nearest one, natural-pelted or not, must be weeks away considering how infrequently wolves passed anywhere close to their borders. As for how often they passed far outside their borders, Tirin couldn't say. The boredom was only broken when he went home and rested, and now when he returned to his den to see Sauda.
Sure enough, he could see her through a gap in the trees, sitting outside their den, and increased his pace slightly. He smiled at her as he rounded the corner and trotted right up to place a well-aimed lick up the center of her face, from muzzle to forehead.
"Good morning," he greeted, grinning unrepentantly at her and wagging his tail slightly.

The sound of paws hitting the ground was like music to her ears, she didn't even need to open her eyes to know that it was Tirin. The lick made her small smile grow so much wider and she opened her eyes to look at him. Giving his a nuzzle Sauda couldn't be happier. Of course she knew she was about to make Tirin's day with her news, but she wanted to make it special, to go somewhere and tell him instead of doing it at the dens. "Good morning." She said back to him and then after a moments pause spoke again. "Did you need to rest or can we go for a walk?"
If he wished to rest then she would let him, however she was really hoping he wanted to skip a nap as she wasn't sure how much longer she could hold back the news. "We could go to the meadow, or maybe that clearing not far beyond the border, or perhaps the cliffs again." Sauda spoke before given Tirin time to answer her question, but she couldn't help it, she was excited beyond anything. Forcing herself into silence Sauda awaited for his reply, tail wagging happily behind her.

"A walk?" He had been walking all night, but Sauda was so excited... "I can always nap later." He nipped her shoulder lightly and backed up. "If we go to the meadow, we could even rest there, when we're ready to."
His mate got exuberant like this sometimes-- a benefit to him, since his own energy could get a bit out of control-- but he couldn't imagine what had happened to make her so today. Had he forgotten some important event? Was this an anniversary? How many moons had they been together? He tried fruitlessly to remember, all the while studying Sauda's face.
"Let's go," he suggested, not looking nearly as nervous as he felt. Was he supposed to bring a gift?

That nervous look on Tirin's face made Sauda want to laugh. Surely he was wondering just what was going on since she normally wasn't like this when he came home. Sure she was always excited to see him, but usually let him rest before they went out anywhere. But today was different, special and she just couldn't wait that long. Of course she didn't think he would be able to rest in the meadow once she told him.
At his words she stood and began to pad away, looking at Tirin, flashing him a smile, almost enjoying torturing him with this secret. Let him sweat it out for the trip to the meadow, it would make the news all more pleasant. There was a definite spring in her step that usually wasn't there as she walked and she couldn't help but constantly glance over at Tirin.

She was quiet. Too quiet. Well, he admitted, his mate was usually fairly quiet unless there was reason not to be. That was more like her, although he could see the energy in the way she moved. He still felt as if he was missing something. Usually he wasn't exactly forgetful...
The grass of the meadow was brushing past his dark legs before he knew it, and he looked over and caught one of Sauda's glances. He tipped an ear curiously at her, but didn't say anything. The rabbit about a yard to his right had part of his attention now, but with Sauda walking beside him and clearly intent on getting where they were going, Tirin wasn't about to stop. Food later.
Shade swept over the pair as Tirin entered the glade, his eyes briefly glancing up and then taking in the small area to make sure no one else was about. Now assured that they were alone, Tirin looked back to his mate and smiled hesitantly. "I think... I've forgotten something important. What was it?"
He wagged his tail. He wanted to share in the fun too, but he couldn't do that if he had no idea what it was she was so excited about.

It took every ounce of will not to laugh at him as they walked. Thankfully though the meadow was not all that far away from the dens. When they finally came to a stop in the shade and Tirin broke the silence Sauda finally let out a soft laugh. "No, it's not something you have forgotten." She told him with a smile. "It's hard to forget about something you don't know about yet." Now that they were alone with no one around she should just tell him, and yet, something within her said to string him along a bit longer, which was quite uncharacteristic for Sauda. "Or maybe you have forgotten about something and I bought you out here in hopes of reviving your memory."

Tirin frowned and looked around. He had fond memories of this spot, that was true, but he couldn't think of anything to do with it that he had forgotten. He looked back to her quizzically, and realized something in her expression said she was teasing him.
"No, you said I didn't know about it yet." He smiled and nipped at her side. "What don't I know yet? You don't keep secrets, usually. Did you find somewhere new?" He lowered his voice, but the smile stayed. In the weeks since they had become mates he had stopped thinking of it as "wrong" to leave the pack's lands, and it had instead become a kind of game. Still, he knew in the back of his mind it wasn't something many of the older members, like his family, would understand. "Somewhere outside the borders?"

Sauda smiled a bit as he nipped at her side. "Well in a way it's new, but it's not a somewhere more of a something." If at this point she wasn't practically dying to tell him she might have played the game a bit longer, give him extremely vague clues to guess with. Stepped closer to him she sat down, butting his head with her own. "Do you remember when you took me to the cliffs, to the cave that overlooked the land? And what we spoke of then?" She paused for a moment, only to keep her excitement in check so that she could give the news without sounding like a completely hyper puppy. "The Goddess must have heard us, for she has blessed us in a great way. Tirin we're going to have puppies." She pulled her head back so that she could watch his reaction to the news.

Tirin stared blankly at Sauda for a moment, his ears perked forward. He turned the thought around in his mind, equating the word puppies to the small creatures that he sometimes saw scampering around the den areas. A bright smile spread across his face and he let out a short yelp before he bowled Sauda over. He half-stood over her, tail going a mile a minute.
"Puppies! Really? Are you sure? You don't look like you're carrying puppies yet." He stuck his nose against her stomach and breathed, as if trying to simultaneously smell them and feel if they were there. He jerked his head back suddenly and pinned his ears back for a moment. "Bear dung, are you okay? That doesn't hurt them right? They're tougher than that."

Sauda let out a yelp of surprise as Tirin bowled her over. She hadn't expected such a reaction but it was still welcoming since she knew how happy he was. "I am pretty sure." She told him with a slight laugh. "Though I think it's best to speak with Tal to know for sure, since she has had pups before and will be able to answer any questions we have." Wiggling slightly as his nose touched her stomach and breathed in Sauda couldn't help but laugh. "Stop, that tickles." She continued to squirm for a moment and then took on a serious look over his obvious concern. "I don't look like I'm carrying puppies yet because it is still early. In time I will grow quite large." Lifting her head she licked his chin reassuringly. "I'm fine. They are fine. Though as time goes on we will both need to be a bit more careful."

"Of course we will," he agreed, looking back at her stomach. "Of course we will." He waited a moment, then stuck his nose right back against her stomach and huffed into her fur. "Take as long as you need, but don't take too long, okay?"
He smiled at Sauda, knowing full well he was still tickling her, and nuzzled her stomach before giving her muzzle a quick lick. "And I'll take good care of you while you help our pups grow. See if I don't.
"Did you want to tell your friends?" Tirin hadn't really met Talas'An or her mate, Tar'quin, yet, but he knew that of all the member in the pack, Sauda was closest to them. Certainly, she would want to tell them about the pregnancy next, long before they announced it to the pack. Actually, Tirin wanted to put that off for as long as possible. The less he had to deal with the Alpha the better. If he wasn't a responsible adult, the temptation to tell his parents and let them inform the Alpha may have been more of a threat.

So badly did she want to bite his legs for the continued torture of him tickling her. He would pay for that...one day. Finally when she was free of the tickling and had stopped laughing she rolled onto her side, so that her more ticklish spots were less exposed. "I'll hold you to those words." She said sternly but her eyes were twinkling, knowing that it was an idle threat. There was no doubt in her mind that Tirin would take good care of her, and the pups once they arrived.
Nodding her head she then gave him a lick on the cheek. "Yes, I would like to tell them." They were her best friends after all and they shared everything, so why not this. "Plus Talas'An can answer any questions I have about pregnancy." Being a first time mother there were a million and one questions Sauda wished to ask her friend, though she knew they would all be answered in good time.

"It's early, but I think they could be up. We could go check now? If they aren't awake, then we can always go back later." He smiled slightly. "But somehow I think that, with growing pups, at least one of them will probably be awake already."
That would be him in several months' time, but he didn't think he'd mind. Sauda would be there for the pups during the day while Tirin caught a few hours rest, and the rest of the day, or in the early morning or evening Tirin could watch them in she needed a break. It was going to be hard, but recalling what he had seen of Talas'An and Tar'quin's batch of pups it seemed like it would be worth it.
With the vague mental image of a pup that was a mix of colors from him and Sauda, he stepped back to give his mate room.

"Yes, let's go talk to them now." She told him with a nod. Surely at least one of them would be at the dens. And if not, well then she supposed that would give Tirin a chance to get some rest before meeting her friends and spreading the good news. Imagine the look on Tal's face when she tells her not only that she has found a mate but they are expecting puppies as well.
Getting to her paws Sauda gave Tirin a quick nuzzle. "Let's go." With a lick on his cheek she turned and began to pad back towards the dens Tirin at her side. She couldn't stop smiling, and knew that it would probably be plastered across her maw for a good long while still.
