Hekima was patrolling the border today. Since his encounter with the rogue Angusho, he felt added security was a must and beseeched his mother to have some of the Shujaa patrol the border along with the rest of the defenders. As Hekima walked he could feel his wounds throughout his body, he was sore and still a little tender. He was stunned at how swiftly Angusho had managed to knock him down and make him incapable of moving. There were worse things in the world than demons, it seemed, there were just those who had evil run through them like a river.

He heaved a heavy sigh as he stiffly moved around in attempts to loosen his body up. He wanted him to return, and to take him down a notch, but he could never do it in this condition. He thought he was a good warrior, apparently he needed more training. His ears went from perked to flat, than perked again as he thought, it was funny to watch if anyone had seen. It was as if his ears were doing their own little dance.

His mind wandered to all the people he had met over the years. The random encounters with lions, cheetahs, leopards, hyenas and other hybrids like himself. He always wondered what had happened to most of them. Some he had seen again and noticed how well they were doing despite their unstable situation, and others he never saw again. Perhaps they had joined prides, packs, or perished under the weight of the world.

"Life is far more complicated than it seems," He commented to himself, as he scratched his ear with a grunt from the pain in his body.

Tiegan was on the road. With the influx of cubs in the tree and the fact that her powers were growing as she did, the young cheeton simply couldn't handle it. Her powers were strongest around family, and when they were so close....it was a nightmare. She hadn't slept well in weeks.

Cautiously, she padded around the edge of a pride, not wanting to cross it's border, though curisosity begged her to do so. What was it like, in there? The family that wasn't really a family. Hekima hadn't been the only one to tell her of prides, but he was the first one she thought of when looking out across the land.

"Yow!" Tiegan jumped up and to the side, looking down at the hare that had bitten her.

"Watch where ye'r walking." It huffed irritably and scampered off, leaving her bewildered and a little depressed. Was she that out of it today?

With her normal bounce all, but flattened out, Tiegan turned to keep walking further north when she spotted something. Something big, and gold, with black. With a little squeek of panic, she dove for the brush and crept closer, using them as cover until she recognized the form. She sighed in relief, slipping out to his side. "You said it."

Hekima was spooked slightly by the brown and tan cheeton and jumped, his fur standing on end and wincing from the quick movements he made which irritated his wounds further. The voice's owner looked so familiar, it took him a moment to realize who it was. Tiegan!? He thought to himself, Wow, she got bigger!

He knew it hadn't been that long ago that he was taking dirt baths with the little cheeton, and having his mane messed with by her, but it had been enough time where the changes to him seemed sudden and many. She had gotten much prettier than the last time he saw her. She was pretty back than, mind you, but she was still a little one, so the pretty was more like absolutely adorable. Now, she was much more sleeking, sophisticated, older. Adorable and cute weren't words you used on a soon-to-be adult, beautiful and pretty were.

"Tiegan?" He rhetorically asked, a big smile spreading across his face. He turned to her trying his best not to act like a big baby with his wounds and gave her head a little nudge, "Look at you...You got big!"

Tiegan blinked innocently, then stepped forward with a concerned frown. She failed to notice his shock, because she hadn't noticed herself that she'd grown. What she did manage to catch was his wince. Then she remembered. "Does Hekima hurt because of work?" Tiegan whispered softly.

He looked rougher than he had the last time she'd laid eyes on the golden leopon. It didn't feel like it was that long ago, but something must have happened in that time to make him hurt. She sashayed around him, her petite little body scanning him over before stopping back infront of him.

"It is Tiegan!" She laughed, flushing when he nudged her, but just as enthusiastically bumping back. "Tiegan's missed Hekima so much. She wants to know why he's hurt? Has someone been picking on him?"

He gave her a smile, though his pain was a bit obvious. He didn't want to worry her more than he figured she already was. He recalled their first encounter and conversation regarding him being a warrior, and the concern she had about whether or not he got hurt doing his job. He had thought her concern was sweet, and still felt the same now as she trotted around him, scanning over him for his wounds, as it were.

"No one has been picking on me," He explained, "I was protecting the pride from a demon; he got the best of me."

He hadn't wanted to admit that part of the story, but it was best to be open about things in the first place, instead of grow or cause someone to grow frustrated by having to constantly ask what exactly happened. Hekima felt a little fuzzy inside as Tiegan told him that she missed him. He'd been told he was missed countless times before, by his mother, his siblings, his nieces and nephews, but never by a friend, generally because he never saw most of his friends again.

"I've missed you too, Tiegan. Is your family ok?" He asked.

Tiegan gasped. Her eyes widened, real fear dancing in them as she placed one paw over Hekima's. "A real demon? By yourself?" As much as she feared for his safety, she was impressed. All the stories she'd heard of demons had said that whoever they touched died. But here he was.

Her frown deepend, a little sad look on her face. The cheeton pulled her legs under her, going down for a sit. "Tiegan's family is doing good. Momma had more babies, so...Tiegan decided to leave. At least, for now. Tiegan will go back eventually, but she thinks that momma has enough mouths to feed as it is. Tiegan's sister's already gone, and she misses her really bad."

Hekima nodded as Tiegan questioned the fact he had taken on a demon by himself. He hadn't noticed her paw placed on his paw until some time during her explanation as to what was going on with her family and froze a little. He'd never held hands with a girl before and wasn't even quite sure whether or not he was having his hand held right now. All he knew is he had to shake himself out of this little mental freeze he was having before Tiegan noticed and things got awkward.

"I felt like that sometimes when my mom brought home all my new half-siblings," Hekima blurted out, mentally beating himself up for it. He didn't like people knowing that he had a twang of jealousy towards his younger brothers and sisters. It wasn't that he thought his mother loved them more because they were full blooded lions, he simply felt that because his mom kept bringing more and more cubs home with her that perhaps Hekima and his siblings weren't good enough in her eyes?

Lately he had been questioning himself quite a bit, ever since he took his sister, Taswira's, side against his mother when she dragged Taswira and Set in front of the pride to be judged like pieces of meat. Yes, he was still not pleased at her for that, as he felt Taswira's pregnancy was a personal matter, but understood why decisions like that had to be made. He just knew Moto could have kept Taswira and Set out of it completely.

Unlike Hekima, Tiegan was so jaded by physical affection from her ever growing family that she failed to notice how personal she may have been. She wanted to cuddle him and lick his wounds better, but she thought better of it.

"Really?" Her ears perked up in surprise. "Hekima knows, then. Tiegan's poppa is always bringing in new cubs; cheetahs and leotahs, mostly, but now that momma had more it feels different." She felt guilty for speaking ill of her family, but once she got on a roll, Tiegan's mouth developed life all it's own.

"Yeah, I know," Hekima said with a tiny sigh, but dismissed it quickly and gave her a smile. He liked talking with her a great deal, even if she was much younger than himself. There was a simplicity in her that he hadn't seen in many of his fellow pride members. They all had harrowing stories of their pasts, or complicated reasons for being in the pride. He himself had a complicated reason for why he was still staying within the pride, but unlike the others, he himself was not a very complicated soul.

"So what is Tiegan doing wandering about all by herself? Are you just wandering to wander, or are you looking for something?" He asked, offering her another smile. He was genuinely interested in what she had been doing with herself since he last saw her and a part of him hoped that she could spare a couple days to spend in his pride from wherever she happened to be journeying to.

After all, he had made so many friends from his travels out in the Rogue Lands, but many of them he never ended up seeing again. He wasn't sure if they had families now, had joined prides, or if any of them had, er, died. He didn't like to think that any of them died, but he himself knew how hard Rogue Land life could be, and without the protection of a pride, or in Tiegan's case a very large family, there was a higher risk of the negative outcomes. In fact, when he finally recognized that the hybrid before him was Tiegan, his heart practically skipped a beat at the fast that she had not succumbed to the harshness of the lands in which she lived.

Tiegan rolled her eyes playfully, giving a little teasing smile. There was something about Hekima's smiles that made her want to do the same. "Well, see, since Tiegan's on her own, she wanted to find Hekima again. She missed him very much, and before she goes for good, she wanted to see him again." The adolescent nodded softly. It was the truth. Her life had just become ten times more complicated than it already had been and all she could think about was seeing him.

Then she jumped up. "Then she's going to go out into the big world and follow the stars to her new home!" She sat back down sheepishly. "Or something like that. She isn't really sure."

Hekima chuckled at Tiegan's proclamation about her intent to adventure until she found herself a new home. He wondered if that's how his mother felt when she went out into the world, away from the demons, and met his father. The sound of adventuring until one found their forever home was kind of enticing to the older leopon, but he couldn't see anywhere else than where he was currently as home. He hoped that when Tiegan found her forever home that it wasn't too far off from here. He wanted to keep in contact with his friend as much as he possibly could.

"Goes for good?" Hekima asked, a little sadness in his voice as he repeated her very words, "I won't get to see you again, Tiegan?"

He had a friend, a pretty friend, and now he might not get to see her again. It reminded him of how it was back in the Rogue Lands, you met some nice people and than you never saw them again.

She wondered what kind of home she was going to find. Would it be lush, and green, or a desert with an oasis? She'd seen visions of all kinds of places, but in her heart she knew that these family members wouldn't accept her. So either way, she was going to be alone. That left a bitter taste in Tiegan's mind.

Tiegan shook her head. "Prob'ly not," she answered gravely. "Tiegan's no good at finding homes, so she'll prob'ly have to go far away. Sides, the demons scare her." She didn't want to leave her new friend, but what could she do?
