In the darkest parts of the Dream Valley forests was a place that few talked about. Oh, it was not nearly as dark as Nightmare Valley, nor was it dangerous. However, there were whispered legends of the hermit that lived in those uncertain shadows. A solitary pony who seemed to shun the presence of all others. Some said it was because she'd been wronged, some said it was because she was an evil pony hiding out in Dream Valley instead of Nightmare. Some said she was a myth and nothing more. Some claimed faithfully that she was very much real. It was a mix of types who tried to seek her out, but very much like Big Foot, she remained elusive and the rumors ran wild.
However, if you venture far enough into the shadows, you just might catch a silvery glimpse of something that doesn't quite fit with the darkness around it...

Yongnian walked. At first, he didn't entirely why he was walking, but finally he settled that it was better than being near her. It was better than sitting there doing nothing, alone with his thoughts.
Walking had been the only solution then, and for no reason at all he had kept on. It was nice to be alone, free from bonding connections and seeing the promising strings of fate break off sharply and fall to nothing.
As he walked beneath the trees, he looked around him at the beauty that surrounded him.

She had crept out from her hidey hole for a brief moment, to drink at the river that curved to meet with the path Yongnian was on. So people had ventured into the forest lately that she had thought she would be safe, for the moment. She never saw him coming.

Yongnian saw the sunshine glint off something dark by the water, he watched quietly. He'd heard legends of creatures, both lovely and feared in this area. It would be best if he watched for awhile before approaching anything.
He peered past a few trees to see a dark-skinned beauty drinking from the river. She seemed nervous, almost afraid.

Black Crystal cautiously drank her fill before stretching and drifting away from the water. With her thirst quenched, there was no reason for her to remain out here in the bright sunlight and open.

Yognian saw her began to leave, and attempted to follow her. He cautiously crept forward to get closer to her, but in his haste he stepped on a twig that snapped rather loudly.

Very much like a deer in the headlights, the black Seryph froze, her head snapping around to find the source of the sound.

Yongnian froze, trying to keep as still as was possible. His eyes were burning from staying open, and his nose had begun to itch...

She stood there for a moment, not seeing anything among the trees. Finally, she shook her head and started walking again.

Yongnian breathed again slowly, that had been close. He walked more cautiously behind her, trying to keep up with her.

Unaware of him, she made her way through the shadows until she reached the safety of her caves.

Yongnian watched as the girl went into the caves. He wasn't sure if he should go and see if he could see her or...not. He was very intrigued with her for some reason.
Approaching the cave, he paused.

Black Crystal made her way to the furthest part of her favorite cave and settled down in the shadows, content to hide.

Yongnian stood poised outside of the cave, he was afraid that he's frighten the girl. She seemed scared of everything, he didn't want to distress her. His curiosity welled inside of him and his lips parted to speak, but no sound formed.
