How long had it been since he'd seen any trace of family life?
How long had it been since he'd seen anyone worth approaching without fear for his own life?
or better yet, would run at the sight of him?
Chompy currently resided in the depth of the woods, where shadows made the atmosphere a near eternal dusk. It was here where his size although formidable for a older foal still had its advantages of being small enough to fit into places the other more sinister soquili could not reach. Canine-esque ears swiveled around on his head to catch noises as they came and went, his nose pressed to the ground to try and sniff out something edible....which at this point a non dirty stick would even suffice.
Bones of his ribcage protruded lightly as it was evident the youngster was more of a scavenger than the proud hunter like the rest of his family line....at least he thought they were. Dragons and Wolf-dogs certain would be able to take on their share of meat. His spade of a demonic tail slashed the air behind him as he picked up something, focusing as the hybrid trotted over to a open meadow where he spotted a dead gopher....most likely dropped from above the way the blood had made a splat like spray around its corpse.
Perking in delight he'd galloped out into the field and quickly dove into its side. "Chompy thinks....smelly." He murmured, but beggars couldn't be choosers and as sharp canines tore at the flesh his stomach thanked him for having at least something to digest. Small firefly like orbs floated around his legs, making him quite easy to spot in the meadow as was his illuminescent eyes....occasionally looking up and around to make sure that he was still safe as he had become quite a skiddish little thing.

It had been a while since Mecho came to his home, bearing two of his children and paniced because he was missing the third, and finally left them with Ikinya, Kayla, Adom and himself to watch over them as he returned to his search. However, the children were getting restless and Cuauhcoatl simply wished to speed things along, look to see if he could spot any filly's wandering the woods.
Cuauh had soared over the tree's for almost an entire day when the storm struck suddenly, leaving the large angeni forced to land, pushing through the branches till he was stranded in thick forests to weather the storm.
The storm had passed quickly, but that was days ago, the angeni trapped by the same branches that slowed his landing and swatted at his skin. It took hours for him to finally kick the tree that had stolen his headdress enough to forfeit its prize back to him, and it was taking days for the stubborn old woods to give up a clearing for him to fly out through, picking through the tangled roots and rocks.
Xochi, his beloved sister at heart, had found the location and pointed him occasionally in the right location, and then went off to feed. After several large catches, the gopher 'Chompy' fed on hadn't bothered being regathered when it fell from her grasp, too full to really care about the rest of the half eaten animal, waiting for her brother to arrive. However, noting the young mutant foal, she blinked sleepily and chirruped at the foal in greeting, flying down to a fallen log and cocking her head to the side, the crest of feathers on her head flairing.

Flicking his head up in surprise as he craned his neck to spot the rather brightly coloured hawk in the otherwise dark atmosphere; the colt tilted his own head. When had it gotten there? Flaring his own wings out in a stretch before settling them back against his side, he was beyond himself when the pretty bird had actually flown down to perch on a nearby log.
Stiffening for but a moment as clockwork began to spring back to life in his mind, the mutant child let out an estranged bark in glee, the sound hoarse on his vocals from being so quiet most of his days. Trotting the small distance between himself and the hawk he made sure to allow a tongue to lick the blood from his lips before further trying to 'inspect' the fantastic new creature.
"Preeeetttyyyy!" 'Chompy' beamed out right, his tail wagging in a more snakelike slither than the wag of a dogs. Lowering his torso down he grinned and nickered softly. "Bird bird bird!" Of course, the meal he'd found forgotten for the time being.

Making a pleased soft rasp of a cry, the large eagle shifted the weight on her claws, sharp talons crushing the bark as she flexed it a bit with a ruffle of her wings to get more comfortable. The Eagle was always fond of foals, and this was confirmation that he was more friendly then foe. Xochi chirruped again, bobbing her head a little at him and turning her head to the other side, nearly looking at him upside down, behaving almost more like a parrot then a bird of prey.
She then suddenly lifted up into the air, flying to the gopher and scooping it up mid flight, before flying down and slowing her landing enough to stall in the air and drop the food before the stallion, and settling back down on her roost. He looked underfed, and judging the gelled blood on his face and the stench from his mouth, she had interrupted his meal on her leftovers. As a nurturing individual, this would not be tolerated.
Chirruping again, the Eagle pointed with a claw a it, clicking her beak and wiggling her tongue to suggest he eat.

Eyes wide in wonder as he could only wonder if this bird could be a plaything he so sorely missed from being on his own; a part of the colt did realize though if he hadn't seen traces of such a magnificient creature before than it probably wasn't from around here and thus probably wouldn't be staying. It was best not to get too excited for any long term companionship, little did he know otherwise the fates in store for him. Grinning ear to ear, he mimiced the eagle and bobbed his own head, although when it came time that he tried to crane his head as far as she could he nearly toppled from forgetting to keep his balance.
Laughing gently, 'Chompy' wasn't prepared for the brightly feathered creature to take into flight; feeling a quick moment of panic. "Birdy no go!" He cried out, before following her flight with his head to see she wasn't going anywhere yet and returned with the carcass. Cocking his head to the side once more as his gaze flicked between the gopher and the eagle, it took a little bit but her message finally sinked in.
"If Chompy eat first, we play after okay?" Folding his ears back he hoped it would be a fair trade off, even if he was hungry anyways. Leaning his head down he ripped more of the meat from the bones of the little creature to satisfy that starving feeling down to a general hunger. Looking up every so often to make sure the great colored eagle was still there before diving back for another bite.

Xochi remained on her perch, making little chirping cries and chattering her beak as he at, watching around intently for predators, prey, and making sure he ate his meal. Suddenly she tensed and took off to flight as she spotted a squirrel, and landed in the branches at it squealed its dieing breath, powerful claws crushing it.
Chirruping, She flew back down, dropping the fresh squirrel -- it wasn't as much meat as the groundhog, but it was fresher. A good way to wash it down.
"Xochi?" Cuauhcoatl's voice sounded in the slight distance, and the eagle cried out slightly, fluffing happily as she started 'singing' her territorial noises, looking proud as she sat near Chompy, quickly hopping up to settle down on his back, careful to mind her claw and distribute her bulky weight so it was simply a comforting press. She knew Cuauhcoatl wouldn't want the young man to flee. He had a good 'feel' to him, and was underfed. And obviously from how he talked, poorly educated.
That would not do. Oh no it would not do.
She delicately groomed behind his ear before continuing her song. It didn't take long for the Clydesdalian stallion to break through the treeline, head dipped and looking somewhat disheveled from the branches. He froze, realizing Xochi was protectively hunched over a foal, "...H-hello there... Are you all right?"

"Froo'd Froo'd Froo'd!" The colt sung happily with his mouth filled with meat, his tail flicking back and forth while keeping a watchful eye on his new found companion. "Crompf'y haff froo'd..." Continuing his little tune, the hybrid's head snapped up at the rustle of feathers to watch the magnificent bird of prey live up to its name; catching a squirrel with ease.
Lighting up once again he pranced in place as the dead critter was dropped before him. Chompy had never had a squirrel before! There were often too fast for him and with what little meat there was any carcass he came along has almost always been picked to the bone. Swallowing his mouth full in one motion he gasped for a breath of air before gleeing. "Squirrel!!!" He whinnied loudly and moved over to the next meal, relishing in the fresh taste and not so....strongly putrid scent the groundhog and the rest of his meals often had.
Aborbed in getting all the food he could from the tiny body, he neglected to hear the call which had Xochi in a commotion; and it wasn't till the eagle had settled onto his back that he grinned. "Does Birdy want piggy ride!?" More than happy to accompany her 'desires' in his mind, his train of thought was derailed when the massive stallion entered the clearing and his luminescent eyes flew open in startle. "Birdy....quick, big fella, big fella!" With instinct to go strong, it wasn't till chompy went to move that he found the weight of the eagle was making it awkward to step; and he didn't really want those talons needing to hold on. Flicking his head to Cuauhcoatl, his tail curled under his withered frame as head lowered in a cowardice mannor. "Chompy....okay...."

Churruping, Xochi lit from Chompy's back, flying around Cuauhcoatl a few times before hopping on the large angeni's head, spreading her wings and tail feathers proudly displaying the feathers on her wings -- the same feathers that decorated the large stallion, before flitting down and landing before Chompy, pressing against his leg in a comforting manor.
Sighing softly, Cuauhcoatl chuckled slightly and, ever so carefully, lowered his body down to partial lay, his voice soft and soothing in an almost coo -- this was a child, and a neglected one at that, "Chompy? I'm Cuauhcoatl."
His usual stutter slipped away from him, talking slowly and carefully -- it was obvious that, while 'Chompy' was an older foal, he was not only malnurished but likely had been fending for himself for a while -- possibly fled from an abusive parent or herd, "That's Xochicoatl, my 'spirit sister'. I'm not going to hurt you..."
Turning his attention to the harpy eagle, he switched to Latin, " Chompy -- Xochi's going to go get you some more food. Would you like to come home with me after you get strong enough to fly? Its far enough away and even with how malnourished you are, you might be a bit too heavy for me to carry should you faint on the way.."

Curious to why the pretty birdy flew from his back to circle around the beast of a stallion, the foal slowly began to realize that perhaps they were friends....that was until it dawned on him that they were even of the same coloration and hue! Were they blood? Confused and still nervous from the sheer size of the fellow before him as it was creatures this size he knew to avoid from the mere sight of something so big lurking, his nose touched against Xochi's head as a sign of 'thanks' for the comfort - he needed it.
"Coo....Cuauh....oatle?" Having a hard time pronouncing as his expression fell with the lack of compliance of his tongue and lips, the young lad gave a sheepish grin. "Cuauh?" Hopefully this fellow wouldn't mind the nickname, until he could figure out the rest of his name. He seemed nice. Chompy did like nice Soquili.
"Birdy....Xochi? Chompy likes birdy sister very much!" Slowly regaining the confidence he had before, the little colt felt his tail sway in a calm rhythm behind his skinny frame. He was happy that this big stallion wasn't going to hurt him as he was sure he would crush easier than the twigs he chewed on! While Cuauh spoke with his beloved birdy friend Xochi in words he completely didn't understand, Chompy felt his head tilt curiously. "Chompy get more....good food?" Oh wow! What a day! Two meals! Cracking a toothy smile, he nodded his head eagerly, until his final words caused him to stop and stare.
"Go.....home? Your home?" He never had one, being the weakest of his siblings and driven off to fend for himself he assumed it was his place to be on his own. "Chompy doesn't have to....be by self?" It was a strange notion that someone he just met was inviting him home, but as he looked to his wings which remained tucked against his side. "Chompy never go in air....face hurts after falling so much when try." And goodness, his nose hurt for hours after a few attempts trying to flee from bigger predators.

Churruping, the richly colored Harpy Eagle closed her eyes, seeming to smile a little.
Cuauhcoatl hesitated slightly, then sighed a little with a chuckle, "I-I-I s-suppose, then, once you get something a little more.. Filling in your stomach, we have a bit of a walk ahead of us.... C-Chompy, was it?" He frowned slightly, not sure he really cared for that name -- seemed rather degrading toward the foal, "B-but yes. Cuauh works j-just fine."
He cleared his throat, realizing he had slipped back into his stuttering diction, he took a slow breath, trying to swallow it down -- this was a younger individual in need, not someone he should be socially awkward about, "But yes.. To my home. I have family there, and friends. We'd be willing to keep you fed-" hopefully, he added silently as he continued, "and get the burrs and tangles from your coat... This really is no condition for someone your age to be in -- to be alone, starving, an uncared for. Its abominable."
Cuauh's wing feathered ruffled slightly, and he relaxed as he moved closer to 'Chompy', slow and head low as to keep from being too intimidating, "Chompy... You're safe now. Xochi's going to go get you some food, if you need to rest..." He layed down and gently streatched out the wings of one side of his body, "I'll keep you warm - you b-barely have any fat or muscle to your b-bones, and your coat's p-poorly tended to to be any good staving off the cold of the coming night..."

Twisting one ear back to listen to the forest behind him as Cuauh spoke, the little colt wondered why his voice was so...shaky. Was such a big creature like him cold? It was hard to believe, with such a headdress on and wings as big as he since he knew not what a stutter was - just he made those kinds of sounds when he was really cold too. "Yes, Chompy is Chompy. Walking something Chompy do well, see!" To emphasize his point the colt took a few stomping like steps with his hooves in a little circle before brimming with glee, heck, it was what he did every day so he had to be really good at it now!
"Cuauh has....family?" Curiosity piqued, the colt slowly began to move over to the large stallion...even though he was laying down he still was aware of just how massive he was compared to other creatures he had seen. "Is....family nice?" Trying not to doubt the intentions of the stallion before him as he'd already been pushed aside before, the colt was finally standing infront of the Angeni. "A...bomibibble? Chompy learns to live with things...not much can do otherwise....soquili think Chompy freak and get scared. Tried to go to other scary ones and well....they really scary for reason. Chompy no want Cuauh's family be scared of him too and get in trouble." It was natural, while not everyone had pushed him aside, usually they knew someone who would - parents of fearless foals usually were the case.
As the male moved and better positioned himself near, Chompy could already feel the warmth seem to radiate of his frame. Amazing...yet he was still cold due to his speech? "No worry, Cuauh. Chompy did not know you cold too, with the shaking words!" At the invitation of some safe rest, the colt turned and nestled himself to the ground under the wings of Cuauhcoatl, moving close in attempt to 'warm' the stutter from his words. Craning his head to look up at him, the colt have another happy smile, oblivious to the condition he was really in compared to the higher standards of most other soquili. "Cold no bother Chompy! Chompy sleeps in the morning, walking all night keeps warm and away from ones who want eat Chompy! Mornings nice and warm in sun."

(Apparently gaia ate my post of this D8 bad gaia!)
Cuauhcoatl smiled softly, taking a deep slow breath to steady himself. There was no reason to be so nervous around the child, wrapping soft warm wings around the child "Yes.. I have a family.. And knowing Ikinya, she'll want to include you in it."
He smiled a bit at the dark colored colt and his sparkling motes of light, lipping at his ear gently, "No ones going to try and eat you...." He pondered a little. He might be able, now that he thought of it, to carry the foal like he did ikinya, on his back... He seemed to be fairly light and frail against him, malnourished enough...
No, not without the basket, he'd never be able to do it with only one set of wings, and he couldn't risk dropping the boy, "Rest.. Once you have some food in your stomach, and a good sleep, we'll move on and head for home.."

Craning his head up to look at the brightly coloured stallion, still feeling the lingering awe at his sheer size...it was like he could take anything on which got in his path. It was exciting to feel wanted, in a sense, more than as a potential snack for some crazy soquili. The mere mention of family was nearly more than his excitement could handle, him....a family? "Ik....eenya? I hope...she likes Chompy. Family would be....it would make chompy very happy." Offering a sad little smile, he was prepared just in case this wouldn't be the case since so many had run from him prior. Yet like most youth, that little fire of hope couldn't be distinguished completely.
The thought of sleep was far from his mind, but his body certainly had other plans at the opportunity of a good rest. With eyes slowly getting droopy and falling every so often, the cold opened his jowls lined with tiny sharp teeth to yawn against the cool air of their surroundings. With his head slowly beginning to nod, the colt dropped his head onto the for leg of Cuauhcoatl while his tail curled along his own legs.
Muttering something of an 'okay', it wasn't long before the colt slipped away into peaceful slumber nestled against the comforting frame of Cuauhcoatl.

Smiling, Cuauhcoatl shifted slightly, cuddling in closer and turning his head to nest with the foal. These woods were dangerous, however, and far too close to the Skinwalker Graveyard for comfort for the Angeni. He focused a bit, murmuring a slight blessing on the child so, should they be attacked, he'd be protected.
Once he was done with that, he yawned, and drifted off to sleep.
___________________
The next morning broke and Xochi had arrived with two fat groundhogs, letting the boy gorge, only occasionally ripping off a bite for herself, as Cuauhcoatl pretended to stand on guard, turned away and a little queasy at the site of blood, but not wanting the either carnivorous or omnivorous boy to think that he was 'wrong' to eat what was healthiest for him.
According to Xochi's search, there was another clearing about a days walk from where they were, further north and closer to Yectenehua. He pondered this fact: It was possible that he could try to use his domains power to help teach the boy within that days travel how to fly, and if they practiced a bit could fly to where the forest was thinner. It'd move quicker by air, and they'd likely reach it before the colt tired. he could then rest on his back and be carried on his back to rest.
"Are you done eating yet, Chompy?"

Brimming with energy, Chompy was a bundle of excitement when dawn finally broke across the skies. Excited for the fact Cuauh had stayed with him an entire night, the fact he might be getting a family within the next few days if travel went well and his birdy friend had returned with delicious looking food...he could easily say this was the best. day. ever.
Already digging into the meal Xochi worked hard to secure for him (in his mind) his tail swayed happily as he felt his body thank him for a decent meal in lords knew how long before he met the pair currently remaining with him. Licking his lips and tip of his muzzle occasionally between bites, he turned to look back to Cuauh standing guard...having bought it completely. "Awhmrost!" He mumbled with a full mouth, swallowing his food hard to avoid choking from eating so fast.
Tearing off the last fleshy bits while minding to let Xochi have some as well, he licked the blood stained bones of what used to be the groundhogs before cleaning his own maw as well. "Hoggies are yummy, Thank you xochi birdy!" Tail continuing to slash through the air he leaned over to nuzzle the great bird of prey before bounding over to Cuauh's side and puffing out his little chest to try and look bigger than he was . "Chompy done now! We see family now?"
