Time Skip

Welcome to the time skip of 2010. This announcement will explain what a time skip is, how things work during time skips and so on. A separate thread named "Time Skip Stories" will be created for you to post your time skip stories. Furthermore, another thread named "Time Skip Profiles" will be created for you to post your new profiles for the Crew to approve.

What is a time skip?
A time skip is simply a "skip in time", so to speak. The RP is accelerated forward a few years in order to age characters and open up new avenues of roleplay. We also usually introduce new plot points and set the gears of the latest plot going during time skips.

What do I do in a time skip?
You simply write a story as to what your character did in the skipped years and update your background. You will receive a reward based on your story. Well... that's how it used to be done. But this time, we're doing it a little differently. (see below for details)

How long is this time skip?
Two (2) years.

What should my story be like?
Just keep it realistic and interesting above all. Points will be given for length and also content. Keep in mind that you can't simply move your character around the world randomly, migrating across countries, into different villages, etc. You need to have your Kage's approval for that.

What happens to roleplay?
Roleplay during the present time frame {pre-time skip} will continue for two weeks. In that time RP will be wrapped up at a satisfying point. New characters cannot be formally introduced to the RP, that is, they can't train and receive experience. However they can do some light RP and get to know the members of the village before the time skip.

After two weeks we will move on to start RPing post time-skip. The RP will only be open to new characters, and those whose time skip stories and profiles have been evaluated and approved.

I have more questions!
Just ask in this thread.

Time Skip Story

In a Nutshell
Four of the Five Go-ryuu Masters, a group of shinobi tyrants specialising in each of the five ninjutsu elements whom were unsealed and revived by the mysterious organisation the Fifth Dawn two years previously, are dead and with the last Master missing, the Fifth Dawn have gone and dissolved: the whole shinobi world was celebrating. Peace had come, new alliances were being forged, they could now rebuild what had been lost... Or so they thought.

The rarely known peaceful "grace period" was broken shortly after the Chuunin exams concluded. Fire Country's feudal lord was suddenly assassinated, leaving no male heirs for the throne. His nephew snatched the position of heir from his daughter and longed to eradicate all shinobi from his country, resenting their influence over his domain. He framed the princess for killing her father, exiling her, and turned against Konoha village: hiring an army of samurai, assassins, and powerful mercenary shinobi to serve his evil intentions.

He first headed to Kusagakure, subjugating the massively weakened shinobi village almost immediately. Then the daimyo turned to Iwagakure {evil dictators never seem to learn...}. Though Iwagakure successfully repelled the invasion and decimated a large proportion of the daimyo's army to boot, it was not without its losses. Its military might shriveled up and it closed itself down in an attempt at defence. Many more villages and countries withdrew into isolation. Overnight, villages and whole countries disappeared from the maps...

Konohagakure no Sato
With the Fire Master dead and the village free, as well as the newfound friendship with Iwa, Konoha should be celebrating...well, should. Theoretically, life couldn't be going any more smoothly...except for one small problem that sort of overnight bloomed into a major headache.

Though their villagers are doing a pretty good job defending against the Fire lord's invading forces, still, being in the heart of Fire Country (and thus the Fire damiyo's stronghold) holds serious repercussions. Fortunately, the talented shinobi of Konohagakure were able to coordinate their efforts to save the princess and defend Konoha.

Rumors have it that Konoha have divided itself once again. While those remaining at home defend the village, those who had set out on an indefinite journey have managed to help the princess escape Fire Country itself. But much still needs to be done: return the princess to her rightful place to the throne while protecting her from assassins sent by her evil cousin, somehow prove it was the usurper who killed the old feudal lord and spark civilian assistance... Or else, there's no other choice but to somehow attempt to dispose of the Fire lord from the shadows.

Currently, plans to infiltrate the damiyo's castle are being concocted. But since he hired his own group of shinobi, the mission may possibly be more difficult than calculated. After all, the Fire Daimyo had also obtained the support of key nomadic families whom are displeased with the nobility system of Konoha - unhappy with their own limited representation in the village High Council.

Whatever the following years may bring, one thing is certain: the very country of Fire is no longer friendly territory to Konoha and their very village itself is embroiled in a state of civil war. Though the struggle between the nobility and the nomadic lines is ancient, a delicate balance ruined in a difficult time is no novel situation. All the while, it grows increasingly difficult to aid and prove their innocence to the devastated countries that the Fire Daimyo had usurped - a single village could only do so much alone. Worse, the presented face to the conquered territories was that of the Fire Daimyo's mercenary shinobi army. In their eyes, why couldn't Konoha stop the daimyo? Or were they his accomplices as well?

Civilians are growing increasingly wary of the shinobi population - and of Konoha.

Otogakure no Sato
The decline in high ranked Shinobi put Oto into an incredibly weak and unstable position. The village gladly took in any passerbys and treated them as family. Slowly getting the academy students to graduate and become shinobi would take a while, any sort of allies they could find for the village now would be necessary for the survival of the village.

Relying on the fact that the rice country was smaller and out of the way, the Sound faded back to avoid the trouble in Konoha and regroup the small remaining amount of ninja. Not only this, but the country focused most of its functions towards the eastern coast, where the country had access to trading ports. This helped the country prosper without relying on the inland countries for supplies.

The people of the Sound stayed quiet and happy. Being close to major port cities near the coast, Otogakure was able to sustain itself and stay far away from the border to Konoha. The majority of small villages fled towards the east and towards Otogakure as well, seeking protection in the shinobi village. Oto blossomed with life renewed after such lonely and hard times. In the care of their new Kage, the Otogakurians received attention much needed and were able to connect and trade with other small villages within the rice country, relieving the tension that had been building between the villagers and Kasuke's passive beliefs. This helped the village economy prosper and grow to a healthy and dominant role.

With their new found workers and funds, the villagers including shinobi all worked hard to rebuild the destroyed academy and soon enough the academy was fit with fresh walls and fresh students. With the spike in population of non-ninja, the academy was integrated into a normal school due to issues with building a separate school. It began again as an even stronger institution, civilian and shinobi students integrating like they had never done before.

While the eastern portion of the Rice Country prospered, the western did not. The border to Konoha was often raided by bandits and many small villages were pillaged and defeated. Otogakure has taken small steps to defend their border and plan on making more missions to recover bandit villages and return them to their rightful owners.

Sunagakure no Sato
With Hikaru, the Kazekage, missing and the village in dismay, the Wind Daimyo saw that the only option was to close the village and operate his own military force. But the village council members had a different proposal. They wanted more time to find a suitable candidate for the title of Kazekage. The daimyo granted this, but gave them only two months to find one.

It seemed easy at first, just find someone perfect to become Kazekage. Except that no one could agree with each other on the possible candidates. But within the month that passed, they managed to shorten the list of candidates to two respectable shinobi, Ishida Kira and Urashima Tenzo. Both were very gifted shinobi and highly intelligent. But the matter was which one would become Kazekage. This would be decided in a battle outside the village in the deserts of the wind country that occurred one night. At the end of that battle, only Urashima Tenzo returned to the village as the victor. It is unknown how or why this battle occurred between these shinobi to this day.

With Tenzo named Kazekage, the young man was left to deal with the turmoil that was left due to the absence of Hikaru, the previous Kazekage. The village economy was too low and villagers were in peril. The shinobi forces were severely depleted as there was little money in their budget. And finally there were tensions between the village and the daimyo. It looked like things was against the young Kazekage. But he got to work right away, putting Sunagakure in deep isolation from the shinobi world. The people of Suna stayed quiet and vigilant as change came to the country. But what kept them quiet was the fear of the idea of not knowing what was to come.

But Tenzo made good on his promise. He brought the village back to stability and the village has returned to normal, if not better than before. The village's economy was better than ever. It was at its highest that hadn't been seen since the Twins were Kazekages. The tension between Tenzo and the daimyo hasn't changed at all but they managed to reach a mutual agreement for the best of the country.

Time Skip Story II

[All these villages will be closed from RP after the time skip temporarily.]

Iwagakure no Sato
Iwagakure was the second major village to be invaded by the new Fire daimyo's forces - as a testament to their power, they were the last. They approached the invasion with their usual gusto, fighting hard by day and drinking hard by night. Unfortunately, even they could not cope with the sheer numbers of the invasion, and came within a hair's breadth of defeat. Though they prevailed in the end, taking out a large chunk of the daimyo's army in a war of attrition, they also lost a substantial amount of shinobi. Currently, the village is in defensive lockdown mode, having destroyed all the roads to Iwagakure in order to discourage further attack.

Their people were not sheep to be led to the slaughter. They were strong and proud and only followed those they felt were just. No…that’s not right, not exactly. They followed those who lead but only if they lead to the proper paths.

No one felt the current Tsuchikage knew this path or even had a path. He was far worse than Lady Kinami had ever been. He not only shirked his duties, he laughed about them and slinked away like some sort of thief when his presence was demanded. None felt he was truly a leader and yet, he was their leader. Honestly, who hired a Porn Star for a Kage anyway? Most of his jutsu were either music or sex based and half of his vernacular revolved around the vulgar and lived in the down right raunchy. He was a mess to say the least.

Still, he was all they had and Iwagakure shinobi were loyal to their land if nothing else. If the leaders had put him in charge, they must have had a reason…they hoped. When word came of the assassination, everyone felt ill at ease. The village itself felt this wasn't the correct course of things and even the wild animals surrounding the village became more violent and untamable but only to outsiders. Without being told, the village of stone began to go into war.

Kusagakure fell first and, without even being asked, Stone Shinobi were dispatched to various other nations to give support, whether they wanted it or not. The people were shocked at this order as the Tsuchikage gave the decree himself. "We are all one nation. Whether we wield the fire in our hearts, the water that sustains us, the earth beneath, the air that caresses us or the lightning that charges us; we are all one nation. And we are a damn BADASS nation!" However, there were fears that by sending out the ninjas of stone, the village of Stone would have the defenses of a pebble. This fear soon came to be tested as the village was attacked.

The road was treacherous and the enemy unprepared. Sure they knew of the rocky conditions and the wild beasts but never had anyone seen the earth churn and boil and erupt as if it were alive or the massive scale of the beasts that laid waste to the men. Yet, they pressed on. Whatever drove them, it was a great force and it lead them to the gates of the village. A massive battle ensued, much like when the Earth Master attacked. It was true, several of the village's top defenders were gone but still, this is the village of stone. Leading the charge, the Tsuchikage went underground. Not to run but to fight. He had crafted a jutsu that only one of the Taida clan could possibly use.

The army of the Fire Lord found itself stuck literally between a rock and a hard place as the ground gave way and revealed an army of stone soldiers impervious to most Jutsu and weaponry.

At the end of the day, the land was wasted but Iwa still stood. Not sure if it's defense could take another hit, the path to Iwa vanished within the course of a night. Sealed within itself, the village of stone became not unlike a tomb.

Kirigakure no Sato
Kirigakure, naturally isolated due to its geography and forcibly isolated due to the debilitating invasion of the dictator Mistress two years prior, had been slowly but steadily rebuilding {and maintaining its isolation}. However, as it wont to happen in newly liberated countries, political instabilities are occurring. Feuds are growing in intensity and scale, with rumours of assassinations and exile trickling out from the harbour. One commonality between all the different politicians is that they have been taking note of the alarming growth of military power in the Fire Country and are attempting to making preparations accordingly. They have wrapped all Kirigakure ninja activities in mystery, much like the mist that permeates through the village. Periodically, rumours of civil unrest along with the political instability have trickled out from the village to the outside world. However, to the outside world, they remain largely unconfirmed.

Within Kirigakure however the picture is very different. After the highly popular shinobi leader Andou was accused and convicted of a political murder (some people say he was framed), he fled Kirigakure and is now unofficially exiled. Politicians scrambled to fill his spot. It's a highly uneasy time as politicians spouting rhetoric ascend to power for only weeks to months at a time. Lots of villagers are leaving, unwilling to deal with the instability of the government anymore. Shinobi are less able to leave, as they would be named as missing-nin, but some have tried, nonetheless...

Waterfall Country
Five days after the Fire Master's Death at the hands of Arya Fubuki and Nakamura Michiyo, it seemed that the village had gone into a time of peace. They didn't have any outsiders find their village and didn't ask for anything in return from the Fire Master's defeat. The Fifth Dawn, happy with their members' accomplishments, went out into the world to celebrate.

Weeks had gone by, the leader of the Fifth Dawn being the only one to leave and return to the village. He spoke of business outside of the village's isolationist views and spoke about going to the other villages in search of remnants of the remaining Masters. Taking incentive to protect the village from further attack, the Waterfall village has been shrouded in a mist that permeates from the waterfall that hides the village.

With the Fifth Dawn's only remaining member protecting the village as the Takikage, it was quickly taken into perspective that the Fifth Dawn had been disbanded.

The alliances and cease fires that had been dealt about during the time of the Fifth Dawn had been severed. Takigakure remains loyal to its own shinobi. While the other villages are strengthening their armies, Takigakure is awaiting the day they try to tread on their territory, untrusting of the villages and their leaders from their lack of communication.

The Waterfall Village knows much of the going-ons outside of their village, for they have eyes in each village, watching and waiting until the time of action breaks the Dawn.

The only village that Takigakure has remained in contact with during the many years after the Master's defeat was Yukigakure. Being that the Takikage has a strong bond with the people of the Land of Snow, the two villages share knowledge of the going-ons in the world of today.

Yukigakure no Sato
Yukigakure was destroyed and rebuilt into Aisugakure (the Crystal City), the refuge in the Snow. It's even harder to locate than Yuki was and is hidden within a flurry of snow at all times. The village is protected by the icy walls it possesses and the few people that know of the village's existence are the survivors of Yukigakure and Nakamura Michiyo. Those that have claimed to have been to the village are just those...claims. When asked to lead the way back to the village, they are never able to find it again. Some say it's a mystery, others say it's a Genjutsu. In truth, Aisugakure is even more isolated than Yukigakure to prevent the devastation from their last days back at Yukigakure.

Kusagakure no Sato
Kusagakure was subjugated by the Fire daimyo. It's under lockdown right now. All are prevented from entering and leaving.

Amegakure no Sato
Amegakure escaped invasion and subjugation only due to Iwagakure's spirited resistance that sapped the Fire daimyo's army. Knowing this, they have withdrawn from the international political scene and upped their defenses.

Time Skip Rewards

Now for the juicy stuff... time skip rewards! As mentioned previously, we will be doing them differently. Previous time skip story grading involved evaluating a mixture of word count and content and giving the appropriate amount of experience points, as well as bonus stat and skill points. We will not be doing this this time around.

The "rewards" will come in 2 stages:

a) Profile re-calibration.
b) Experience rewards.

a) Profile re-calibration
You all may be aware that we have a lot of overpowered little ninja running around. It may not be as exaggerated as level 10s with hundreds of points in their skills but having level 10s with their skill points into the 70s is a well common thing. Yes, the problem is all with the skills here (in a few cases, it's with the stats too, but it's mostly skills). Therefore, this time skip, and this time skip only, you will be allowed to "re-calibrate" your levels to a more appropriate value.

Rules:
-New total stat OR skill point amount must not exceed that of your previous profile's.
-Your stat and skill points cannot change too radically. You cannot change your genjutsu specialist into a taijutsu-ninjutsu hybrid.
-All techniques will be kept. If for some reason you no longer meet the requirements, mark that out clearly.
-All items will be kept.
-Previously trained points do not carry over as "trained" points. All points in your old profile are treated as distribution points.
-Don't count your clan bonuses/penalties.
-If you feel that you trained a lot in the time before this recalibration, you can appeal for some of your points to be added to your new profile as "trained" points.
-You MUST post a copy of your old profile and your new, recalibrated profile in the "Time Skip Profiles" thread for approval. Otherwise, your character will not be accepted for post-time skip RP.

Example:
I'm gonna do Carlos Ralfer's character, Takamichi Roy's, time skip level "re-calibration".

Here's a link to his profile: http://www.gaiaonline.com/guilds/viewtopic.php?page=1&t=12647033#152529963

Now notice that he is level 22, but he's got lots of extra trained stat points and skill points. To be exact, he has:
-331 total stat points, of which 64 are trained.
-1318 total skill points, of which 812 are trained.

For Roy's new "re-calibrated" level, he cannot go over either 331 total stat points, or 1318 total skill points.

b) Experience rewards
Simply put, your time skip story will net you experience rewards, leaving you to customise your character yourself with your stat point and skill point rewards through levelling up. A minimal amount of stat and skill points may be awarded in exceptional circumstances. Length and content will both be considered. These rewards will be added on to the re-calibrated profile and experience bar.

Jutsu Learning

During the time skip, you can have your character learn any jutsu or clan jutsu (for their clan) so long as they have enough points for it. Below are a spread of points based on character level and cost for jutsu based on rank. You don't have to do the training days or typing equivalent for that. All you have to do is make sure your character has the stats or WILL have the stats after you add in the bonuses they will get for posting a story. In other words, if we check your character after the timeskip and find they still don't have the stats even after posting your upgrades, you'll be stripped of that jutsu and probably some of the bonus so... DON'T CHEAT!

Additional rules:
-Forbidden Jutsu are not allowed.
-For Custom Jutsu, +1 to the point value of the jutsu as this represents the time taken to brainstorm and create the jutsu. Alternatively, you can do an Int training and brainstorm/create the jutsu before the time skip comes into effect.

Jutsu Points by Level

Level 1 - 9 = 3 points
Level 10 - 29 = 5 points
Level 30 - 59 = 8 points
Level 60+ = 10 points

Jutsu Point Cost by Rank
E Rank = 0 points
D Rank = 1 points
C Rank = 2 points
B Rank = 3 points
A Rank = 4 points
S Rank = 5 points

Some of you may be worried, perfectly legitimately, that because of the changes to the skills system, the requirements for techniques will change. They will. However most will follow the requirement guidelines as below:

D Rank = 5 - 15
C Rank = 15 - 25
B Rank = 25 - 35
A Rank = 35 - 45
S Rank = 50+

Please note that most techniques requiring the usage of chakra will have an additional Chakra Control requirement.

stare *Makes pestered but accepting clicking sound* There's that new system that I'd been hoping had been forgotten... neutral Oh well, it doesn't really change anything. Skill points are the thing which are taking the hit, and since Jutsu are bringing down the difficulty as well that's not much of a problem.

I don't have any above b-rank jutsu and since their new requirements cap off at 35 and I'm already passed that limit, ( 17 plus 20 being 37) I suppose I can't complain.

And since personally trained points are not effected by the limits, my stats are completely unaffected. So I qualify for all my Current Jutsu and stuff. It'll just be a matter of reformatting my Profile to the new standard.

And doing the same for my summons...since Kasuke tossed the scroll into oblivion I'm apparently the only person who's ever going to be using them any way, so I guess they qualify as my extra characters now...

But I DO actually have a few questions, so here goes...

I gotta readjust my time skip a bit now, seeing as Xen's only a Genin he won't be able to learn two of the Jutsu I had him learn as he doesn't have enough points. The A-ranks out of the question any way, as he probably won't have enough skill points under the new system, but I'll also have to take the D-rank. I don't suppose since my people are as strong as Chuunin you'd let me have Five points? That would solve my problem entirely. Could it be based on level rather than rank?

3nodding All that stuff going on in Fire Country feeds so much more to my story that all is forgiven, this will mean I have to rebuild my premise a bit, but it will be all the cooler now! Kimiko will have plenty of stuff to take care of too. But what I was wondering was when you say all this stuff starts after the Chuunin exams, when exactly are we talking? How far into the Skip? (Just for reference on a time frame.)

And though I have Permission from my Kage to travel around with one of my people, do I need the Permission of the Kage's who's countries I enter? I really only passed through Wind Country for a bit and then predominantly Fire Country, though the southern most rim of it, and he was staying low profile the whole time anyway, it's not like he ever even went near where Kohnoha or any of the fighting would be except maybe when he was crossing from Wind Country.

Other then that everything looks fine to my eyes. confused

Kouri, I have to agree with Xmas about letting people learn Jutsus by level. =|

I've been fighting with the others tooth to nail regarding this...but reading what you said, Xmas, I conclude yours is a character trained from level 1, no? Then...we got a problem. Minor, I hope. The idea was to recalibrate blank slates at higher levels accordingly to the max number of skill points they presently have but...I knew there was going to be people who wouldn't want to since it's more advantageous to remain at a lower level...

So. What do you want to do? Firstly...what level are you? Since skill points (distributed) aren't affected by intelligence anymore, rightly, your stats should be affected - unless you are one of those Genin who don't bother distributing stats for a long, long time. As for summons...I'm not going to ask how you got one as a Genin yet until I get my question answered as to what level you are.

Yes you need permission from the Kages whose territory you are entering. Entering Konoha these days is about equivalent to a) Genjutsu ownage by Uchiha sentries b) hit by wind arrows by Hatsuchi sentries c) lose your chakra system to the hands of Hyuuga patrol d) get smashed to tiny pieces by Senju Fuuin workers e) lived through the above events and are taken for the worst part - Yamanaka for interrogation

...

Yep. Don't go to villages without sending a friendly notice. There's nothing Zephyr can do to get the Council to loosen up either. It's wartime.
PostPosted: Tue Jul 27, 2010 8:13 pm

gonk You're one of those scary executive types aren't you... lol Kidding kidding.

confused In that order ma'am, ahem.

Both my people are level 16 and 17(and Yes, I did build them up from nothing.), according the this post above, my points will stay with me when I recalibrate my characters, and when I said my Stats were unaffected, I meant my abilities, str, con, chak, etc. I just said my skills were effected obviously, what with the whole revamping. My Summon I received the old fashioned way, by getting permission from my kage and going on a LOOOOOOOONG, LOOOOOOOOONG, quest inside maze designed to drive you insane...and or kill you. Really good read actually. xd

As for going inside Kohnoha, I would just like to say that am not retarded, that is, my brain functions to it's regular capacity, hence I would not be stupid enough to try and actually enter a village without permission,(Or at all unless on an official mission) however, there is a rather great deal of country around said Village, Hokage-sama (I believe that IS your title yes?) And particularly while you've much bigger things to be troubled about, I don't think even Kohnoha could patrol the whole Country that well. Besides, I'm actually helping you deal an enemy you didn't even know you had! (Admittedly that's because i made him up for the purpose of my time skip but... xd )

If it really bothers you that much though, Proto, I'll change my time skip so that Xen steers clear of the Fire Country altogether, no need to be firing powerful Bloodlines at people out of a cannon. *giggle* I just imagined the hidden leaf actually firing Uchiha's at me out of a cannon. It's the little things in life.

Wouldn't the rank you become over the time skip affect how many jutsu you get? That was my impression anyway O-o. Also, I know I'm kage and crew and I'm supposed to get all this, but seeing as how my own little character's taijutsu skill is 60 it wouldn't be right to move him to level 40 just to make it fit in the cap sweatdrop . And while I was reading, it said training can exceed the cap, which really tripped me up because I thought people over training was the problem. confused This, also made me think, okay could I have a lower level and still keep my 60 because I trained everyone of those points?
PostPosted: Tue Jul 27, 2010 10:24 pm

Not sure if we can respond to system changes stuff in here as well, but....whatever.

I just wanted to re-state something I've been stating for a while but no never seems to take notice of concerning training for stats/abilities.

The DC for both abilities and stats is always 10 + [whatever you have] which compared to your d20 + [whatever you have].

Soooo....if you're going to add [whatever you have] to both side of the equal, it basically cancels out. Why even mention it in the first place?

Simply say the DC for training stats/abilities is simply 10. Then people won't have to do pointless addition.

------------------------------------

Also, I have a Time Skip question. For Sunagakure: How will the economic turmoil, political tension, and general controlled chaos would effect the Nomad clan/faction (both those outside and inside the actual village)?

And with the stages for learning Jutsus completely replace the training day system? Or are they both in affect? Just asking since the jutsu list is unchanged.

a) This can come into debate but for all purposes points should not exceed the distribution point caps. Of course if you trained a LOT you can exceed. Cheer you can make Raine any level you want, it doesn't have to be the max. Previously trained points don't count unless you appeal, you completely remake your profile.

b) LuvMonke well it's just nicer to have constantly increasing DCs! Besides if we state the DC is 10, people might actually think that the DC is 10. And add their str/dex/whatever mod.

For Suna Black and White has to answer that.

Completely replace. We will be updating things over the next two weeks.. we're working on them.
PostPosted: Wed Jul 28, 2010 6:31 am

At first people might think that it's 10 compared to their d20 plus mod but in the same way that people now know that the check for jutsus is just 15 compared to their roll, I bet they can adjust to skills/abilities being just 10 compared to their roll.

I understand how at first glance seeing your DC continually increasing but once you look under the surface and see that the DC is really the same, just scaled up to your skill level...those additional points and additions just seem pointless.
