With wings unfurled and joy unbound, I dance on laughter spangled winds. I bathe in freedom’s rushing breath And drink cool nectar from the clouds. Up, up, through sunlit fields of blue, I soar through boundless ether. Look! Starlight shines at height of day. I hear infinity calling.Tairen’s Flight, by Cadrian vel Sorendahl, Tairen Soul © C. L. Wilson It was going to be a glorious day! The world was fresh and new to him; the rain that passed through with dawn had washed the world clean and left the sights and smells more distinct in the morning light.
The edge of the forest, bordering on a mountain pass was where he currently called his temporary home. He was an avid traveller, explorer, and general wanderer, though it wasn't as though he was a misfit. On the contrary, he was very close with his family; encouraged to do what he wished with his life from his mother and, well, here he was.
In his mind, there was nothing better than being able to come and go as he pleased. Adelis lifted his face to the sky, soaking up the sun. Content and relaxed, he sighed, before suddenly throwing his wings up. Suddenly a flurry of animation and spirit, he rose to his back legs and released a loud, joyous cry.
Mere seconds later and he was racing forwards, wings momentarily stretched as if he would take flight before he drew them back against his body, opting for racing beneath the power of his legs instead. Darting amongst the trees, and keeping the base of the mountains within new, he didn't care how long he ran, but abruptly, he dug his heels into the earth and sent sod flying.
Ears pricked, he came upon a curious sight. Not more than a few yards away, a fawn lay, curled up, nestled beneath the brambles of a bush he would have soared over. His amethyst eyes gentling, he lowered his head and snatched a quick bite of the grass nearby before managing to still himself long enough to listen for anything out of the ordinary--predators, specifically. When he found there seemed to be none nearby, he softly stepped around the bush, leaving the spotted baby to rest in peace.
Adelis let a breath go, and drew another in. Looking up through the foliage, he felt the sky call to him. As much as he longed to heed the call and rise up, he lowered his head, gently nosing around the forest floor before moving on again, though at a much more leisurely pace. Ears pricked, he slowly meandered his way towards a small stream he'd noted the other night, intent on drinking his fill, at least, and then perhaps the vibrant stallion might join the clouds once again.

Just a little further... all she had to do was avoid all loud noises, and keep her wings still. Kama's mother seemed to hear so much more lately than she used to; perhaps it was the fact that Kama sneaked away almost every day, and was quite good at it too. It must be her sly antics that honed her mother's senses to an almost impossible-to-escape state, but still, she couldn't sate her taste for exploration.
A tiny snap came from under her small hoof, and she froze, expecting her grazing mother's head to shoot up, and for the scolding lecture to come. But the graceful head remained inches above the soft grass, and her mother was once again oblivious to her young daughter's antics.
Kama smiled, taking a moment to admire her mother, as many others did. She felt guilty for leaving her so often, and causing her needless worry. But it was like choosing between two halves of her soul--she loved her family dearly, but the need for freedom was even stronger. In ways her mother didn't know, Kama needed the time for adventure. It was in her blood, in her very spirit, and she could not ignore it.
And she turned away, softly treading through the coniferous forest growth until she was well away from the small clearing they had chosen as a resting spot. When she was certain that she was out of ear's reach, she gathered her energy and sprung forth, holding her wings tight to her body as she ran.
She hadn't any idea how long she had galloped through the trees--the scenery slowly changed around her, with the pines eventually being invaded by hardwoods and flowering shrubs and saplings. The ground was no longer needle-covered, and instead was grown over with soft, healthy grass broken by the occasional clump of wildflowers and clover. The smell of honeysuckle and cedar floated through the air, making Kama's skin prickle with excitement and wonder. She had no idea where she was, or what she would do here. All she cared was that she was free, for the ever-changing landscape was her home.
She eventually felt a pang of hunger in her stomach, and slowed her pace to a slow lope, searching for a place to stop and rest. The smell of water hit her nose, and she followed it eagerly. The grass along the bank of fresh flowing water was always the sweetest, and why not take the opportunity while she had it?
It was not long before she made her way to the stream, and to her delight, found a small clear patch of grass next to a fern invaded bank. She grinned and lowered her head, taking a mouthful of the sweet food, her ears swiveling this way and that as she listened for other life. A soft rustle came from not far off, but she ignored it. This place seemed to serene for danger, and besides, it was most likely only a deer.

If deer could be the colour of a deep sunset, then Adelis was a very large deer, indeed. Higher upstream from the young mare, the stallion waded through ferns, shaking his head as his trailing hair caught slightly before he broke free with one last step. Ears pricked, he glanced around. A quick look, he knew, was a fairly wise idea anywhere.
But he hadn't expected that he would have company. Especially company that looked like she belonged to the trees herself. And what was this? She had fire-brilliant feathers in her mane and tail, too..?
He stood still a moment, deliberating on moving forwards, or waiting and watching from a distance. Lowering his head to brush his muzzle against the top of the lush grass, he stepped to the stream to drink.
Only after he had a decent amount did he make up his mind. Rather, his mind had been made up for some time, he was just biding his time. As he drew closer, he noted the delicate wings upon her back, that rather reminded him of his mother's soft coat. Amused, he shook his head, deliberately making a bit more noise than he normally might as he drew closer.
Fancy, delicate, intriguing.
Adelis tilted his head, curiosity lighting his eyes. He'd never encountered a soquili with these wings. Nor had he truly seen one that seemed completely at ease in their surroundings. He'd been like that, true, but his young friend Sheba had quickly taught him to look. At least to be more aware of the area around him.
He longed to leap and run, but didn't fancy startling his poor companion. Instead, he did a mild jig and side-stepped several long paces before easing back again, into a more placid walk.
"Bright day," He began, ears pricked, laughter evident in his voice. "A pleasure to have after the cleansing rains this morning."
For a moment, he held himself...well, as still as he could before moving. He might have been deemed restless, but really, he was just brimming with energy. And delight at finding someone other than the small fawn he'd come across just a few short minutes ago. He stretched his wings out, giving them one sharp flap and a quick shake before pulling them close to his body again.
"...are you from around here? You seem like you're pretty comfortable here." He intoned, an ear cocked back with the other swept forwards, almost uncertain, though a slightly lopsided smile broke his features into softer lines.

Kama's head lifted from the grass as the soft patters of hoofsteps became more evident; her eyes swept forward to see a rather bright individual making his way toward her in a slow, strange fashion. Her eyes widened slightly at his appearance: He was larger than her, a usual situation for a young flutter such as herself, he was as bright as the sunrise, had vivid feathers in his long, soft hair... she turned her head and nosed one of her feathers, intrigued by the fact that she was not alone in their adornment.
She didn't move as he came closer, but did not speak, either. Her mind ran through possible reasons of his arrival; he was simply in the area? Or had tracked her down? Was he friendly? Arrogant? Gentle? Abusive? Her mother's warnings about strangers flitted through her head, but she longed to ignore them. This individual seemed too interesting to pass up, and besides, she could fend for herself--to a point.
Her eyes ran over his bird-like wings as they stretched, and she couldn't conceal her amazed smile as they moved and once again closed. They looked strong, as if he could fly to the edges of the world. Her own wings, she knew, could not always handle such stress.
Deciding to make herself look more friendly than she had appeared, she gave a friendly grin and a small flutter of her wings, a small bit of sparkling dust falling from their surfaces.
"A bright day, you say?" she gave a small giggle and smirked, though in a friendly fashion. "I dare say that you are brighter than this day, sir." She motioned to his coat, and once again was drawn into the vividness of it all. But she soon yanked her eyes away, back to his darker, comforting eyes, and found it easier to speak.
"I am not from around here, but I have never been in one place since I was very young, so I adjust quickly to new surroundings. I do have a home, mind you, but... I've just never seen it." She thought that her own words sounded silly, for whom could have a home and yet never been there? But it was true, and she would not lie.
"And you, sir? Where do you come from?" Her eyes were inquisitive, but friendly and open, a trait that came from her ever-trusting mother.

The dust motes falling from her delicate wings brough Adelis's ears sweeping forwards in interest. The little specs caught the sunlight and gleamed, further intriguing him. How very curious, and how pretty. Even the feathers from his own wings did not sparkle, though they were bright.
Fascinating.
His eyes crinkled in amusement at her bantered return on his greeting, and a smile was quick to flash its way across his muzzle. He couldn't help himself, prancing a little and fluttering his own wings. "I think the sun needs to catch up after such a long night, if you think that. It will definitely outshine my coat before it's at its highest point."
Another flick of his wings, and he stepped closer, a tad more placidly than he'd pranced...but only a tad.
It was odd, Adelis thought, that she had never seen her home. Home, in his opinion, was where you were born...or at least, where your family resides. As for himself, well...first, he shook his head. 'Sir'? He was no sir; surely that intoned some regal bearing, some sort of nobility. While he might have had his regal moments, he did not have any 'noble' blood...or at least, that he knew of, anyway.
"Adelis, please." He mentioned, eyes softening as he introduced himself. Her gaze was something akin to his own, and that made him all too happy to share, and to be perhaps even more gentle than normal. "My home..? I...well, the place I was born...was in the forest by the sea. It's rather far from here, though I could make the journey within a day or two, flying."
"May I have the pleasure of knowing your name, as well..?"
The lure of the sky, though not forgotten, was dampened by his curiosity for this small, intriguing mare and her faintly glimmering wings. He'd relaxed somewhat, as well, wings held a bit more loosely at his sides.
"What sort of wings are those..? I can't say I've encountered anything like them, even though I've travelled a lot." Well...curiosity at its finest. Before he could stop himself, another question popped out from between his lips. "And how could you not have seen your home? ...ah, I mean, if that's not too hard to answer."
He was close enough he could have reached out and nosed at her wings...or the bright orange feathers in her hair, but managed to refrain, arching his neck and giving his head a soft shake to distract himself from the temptation.
