In one my classes i have people who actually think that my highschool should get rid of marching band. stressed i got so mad, and on a thing where we had to right 3 rules for school, one of them for a few kids was "get rid of marching band." some of the football players hate the marching band...it's really annoying

At my school, no one hates us. They all love the marching band.

That's odd. The band is kinda accepted at our school (one of our colorguard is the school announcer and some are friends with varsity, hell, I know some JV), and I've never been made fun of because I carry a flute case around with me.

And just two days ago we took our picture in the middle of the quad, and no one made fun of us or messed with the picture, thought we did get some jeers.

our marching band has been successful since the very beginning of the school....which is only 4 years, but the football team is nowhere near as successful

Why do they hate us? Because we're so much better than them.

There's no such thing at our school, seeing as how our whole music program is at least 300 members, there's a reason why, band is pretty well accepted if not held in high regard at our school. I guess it's because we're considered to be one of the "emphasis on academic" type of schools, so we care a lot about things like band and speech and debate. We used to be 3rd in the nation for speech and debate, but it's dropped to 4th in recent years.

There's only individuals who dislike the marching band, some in the football team, but I know a few who support us and the coach sometimes moves around their practice times so we can get our own time on the field. Our field doesn't have lights, and so it's a hassle trying to figure out how to do it, but most are supportive. Just there's always a small handful of jerks who can't handle themselves properly.

It's the price of being so awesome, everyone else gets jealous.

True. Those people are so jealous. I actually had a music folder out and I was looking through my music with one of my friends and one of the sports oppsessed football player people said "Oh my gosh! She's trying to convert us." I wanted to smack that person so bad.

It's not that some people hate the marching band. They just don't understand it that's all. But if they've tried it and hate it, well they can just get over it.

I quite agree. we have almost as many awards as at least half of them combined. but our school doent really hate us. this one football game, our drumline decided to play their warmup during a timeout, and i guess they heard it or something becuase as we were going back up to the buses the football team was surrounding the drumline and the drumline started playing again and the football players were dancing/jumping along to it, it was funny.

In my first period class we always get in a debate about this, and somebody from the Cross Country team keep bragging bout their 9 state championships in the past 10 years, but there is nothing like that for band so ya. What we do have though is one of the biggest high school marching contests in the South-East (the Hoover Invitational), no less than superior ratings on everything we have ever done, and we have been so much more successful than the cross country team that it's not even funny. I laughed when he said that the CC team had more trophies than we do, because if you go in our very good size bandroom the walls are like lined with trophies. He was bragging about his 65 trophies, and we took him to the bandroom and royally owned him, because, last time I heard, we have around 509 trophies that we've collaberated (concert and marching) in the past 11 years because we do sooo much crap >_<

Everybody loves the band where i live. The football and student council has even paid our way to go to games out of town. We even have some football players in the band and some are cheerleaders and some are even basketball players.

our marching band livened up one of our lame pep rallies and all of our football games (our theme was "marching band for dummies" - it *is* an original topic, BTW, allowed by the "for dummies" books and everything) because our 3rd song was the Earth, Wind, and Fire song "Shining Star' so we had a dance... they loved us. I'll have to ask the uperclassmen if other years they really couldn't have cared less about the marching band, though. we support the fotball team and get all hyped up, but nobody really cares much about marching band. we're just there. SOMETIMES wink our wind ensemble and symphonic bands are also mainly choir kids, so... lots of people know if the game's crap, we still sound good

We don't really encounter that problem too much at our school. We've got some people who think they're cooler than the band just because they're not in it, and then we've got a huge rivalry with the choir. (And it's not even really a friendly rivalry... we REALLY don't like the choir, and they REALLY don't like us. sweatdrop With a couple exceptions, of course. There are some choir kids we don't mind.) But other than that, we don't seem to have problems with people. Just yesterday we got a huge card that said, "We <3 the band!" on the front and it had messages from all the cheerleaders inside saying how much they appreciated us and all this. It was really cool.

My band is neglected.
We get one cramped yellow school bus for the entire marching band why'll the 15 cheerleaders get a charter bus.
We get insturment older then the school and the football team gets new equipment every year.
The Winter dance was flashier then the prom and we get stuck with uniforms older then my grandpa.
And the there is the all to famous, "Band is gay!"
And then entire school rejection.
Plus dirty looks from the principle.
Life at my school sucks.
