⋨London's Finest⋩ ⋨Introduction⋩ ♠ ♡ ♢ ♣ ♤ ♥ ♦ ♧ ❝Our story takes place in a London that Never Was, during a cultural uprising and technological revolution. Religious groups are officially calling for the apocalypse, popular icons are ever relaxing their morals, landmark technology has been developed and subsequently stolen, and politicians are inventing brand-new means of deceiving the public.
The government of this Never-London is facing change, as well: new androids of a steam-and-gears variety have been programmed and employed to replace many of the humans working lower-level jobs within this government. The human police-force has been replaced by an “investigation force” of these same androids; this force is cheaper, more efficient, more reliable… and far less trusted by the population at large. Our story focuses on the public’s answer to this android police division: a small, human detective agency.❞ ♔ ♕ ♖ ♗ ♘ ♙ ♚ ♛ ♜ ♝ ♞ ♟ -Introduction, Setting, Story, Character Classes: The Good, Character Classes: The Bad, Characters: The Rest, Accepted Characters, Profile Skeletons, Profile Links, Rules, Reserved-

⋨London's Finest⋩ ⋨Story⋩ ♠ ♡ ♢ ♣ ♤ ♥ ♦ ♧ ❝Our little game will begin soon after rapid technological advances introduce major changes. Advances in the programming and production of artificial intelligence have made robots more widely available by drastically dropping their cost and improving their efficiency. The government of New London has taken advantage of these circumstances and, after a series of tests, has chosen to replace most of its low-level human officials with robots, as they are cheaper, more efficient, and more reliable. The money they hope to save with this venture is reportedly to be invested in the public school system, but many newspapers claim that the money will slip into the pockets of the remaining government officials- along a substantial amount given by a major robotics company, presumably as thanks for employing these robots.
It is also whispered that the program was implemented to turn the tide of public opinion in favor of the robots. While these rumors are totally unfounded, there is a certain truth in the word of a vastly negative opinion of these robots. Much of the public was against robots since their inception, victims of small-mindedness, paranoia, and the ‘uncanny valley’ effect. Now, after robots have replaced so many workers, public opinion has turned from mild distrust to violent hate. All of this results in the public’s resentment of the government, for introducing the monsters in the first place, and in the distrust of the more public branches of government. This is especially true of the police force: crime has not yet increased much since the replacement of the force, but the number of crimes reported has dropped dramatically. No one, it seems, is willing to go to robots to ask for help. Instead, people have been turning to those few private agencies available. The G&L Detective Agency is one such firm. ❞ ♔ ♕ ♖ ♗ ♘ ♙ ♚ ♛ ♜ ♝ ♞ ♟ -Introduction, Setting, Story, Character Classes: The Good, Character Classes: The Bad, Characters: The Rest, Accepted Characters, Profile Skeletons, Profile Links, Rules-

⋨London's Finest⋩ ⋨Character Classes⋩ ♠ ♡ ♢ ♣ ♤ ♥ ♦ ♧ ❝ The Good ≽ ≼The G&L Detective Agency This section, along with the two following sections, is a catalogue of the various roles you may play in this game. You may choose to ally yourself with either the Detectives or the Criminals, and must report to the head of the chosen group. One character is permitted per player. The G&L Detective Agency may be a fairly recent addition to London’s crime-and-punishment scene, but it’s already on its way to becoming a powerful and well-known entity, and it’s all due to the workers. At the top of the chain of command, we have The Director. This is the guy with the power: customers come to him for service, workers come to him for orders, hopefuls come to him for jobs, and he goes to the unlucky (or inept) and takes it all away. This guy needs great organizational skills, a charismatic disposition, and strong leadership abilities. Since this guy is in charge of everything, he has to be able to handle his workers with a firm hand, but without bruising too many egos (because we all know how sensitive some of these intellectual types can be), and he has to be able to maintain a professional distance from his employees and from the clients… but Player beware: too much ice tends to freeze potential customers.
While The Director is off schmoozing with clients or micromanaging his detectives, The Alchemist is usually busy is his lab. Having spent a lifetime studying a newly emerging field, this guy has to know what he’s doing and how to make other people believe him. He’ll have to be able to explain things clearly without sounding patronizing, and be able to demonstrate when talking just won’t do (giving him some great qualities for teaching). Despite his good people skills, however, he’ll have to be able to handle isolation, since he’ll be stuck in a lab for the greater part of his professional life. In that professional life at The _ Agency, he’ll be the one to study all the forensic evidence. Chemical analysis, fingerprinting, ballistics, and anything to do with disgusting stuff is all in this guy’s hands, and they need to be some talented hands to deal with some of the stuff that will come his way.
Moving from forensic science to technological science, we’ll encounter The Tinkerer. He’ll have to spend a good deal of time in his lab, or the labs of other like-minded madmen, to keep up on the cutting edges of his field… so he may not have time for social skills. This doesn’t mean that he’s incapable, however, as his work can usually defend itself (sometimes with weapons as well as obvious functionality) from the skepticism of that ever-cynical public. He needs to steady hands and a massive brain to achieve anything in his field, and he should probably be something of an innovator in technology, as well as a researcher. After all, you know you’ve perfected Mousetraps 101 when you can build a better one.
Out of the lab and in the field, we’ll find a small group of Street Urchins (x3). This group is tasked with gathering intelligence, no matter how difficult that may be. They need to be masters of stealth and wit, as they’ll be outsmarting, outrunning, robbing from, and lying to just about anyone. They have be to be able to outsmart their targets and outrun their obstacles in order to get what they need, and they always have to have their eyes and ears open. This interesting skill set will have come, for most of The Urchins, from an intimate familiarity with the streets, and those lacking that close relationship with Lady London will have to gain it quickly, as its essential to their work. Despite their proximity to the “shady underbelly” of city life, however, they can’t afford to harbor too may vices of their own and expect to keep a job with The Agency… but that doesn’t mean that somebody won’t try it.
Along the same shadowy lines as The Urchins, we have The Fighter. His purpose is simple and clear: keep The Agency safe. Whether this goal entails shadowing detectives as a bodyguard or roughing up some uncooperative for an Urchin, The Fighter is prepared with his brain, his body, and maybe some concealed weapons. This guy could specialize in any form or style of martial arts, but he can’t get caught up in technique when efficiency is important. He can’t have qualms about kicking some a**, unarmed or otherwise, but he’s got to have a brain to top off his muscles so as to avoid a fight when possible. Additionally, The Fighter needs to have some motivation beyond that of a steady paycheck, since The Agency places so much faith in him. He has to be more than just a mercenary- he has to have some loyalty.
While good character is valued in Fighters, it’s even more essential to Detectives (x5). They have to be cunning, charismatic, and motivated at all times. Nothing a Detective can do, no fancy skill, will ever be worth more to them than those three traits- which is saying a lot, because lying and lockpicking seem to be worth their weight in gold. Detectives will use these traits when they’re out in the field, since their jobs cover an awful lot of legwork in searching for “clues” before they go putting them together. This last step, however, is critically important. All the best Detectives appear to have good instincts, better logic, and great luck when assembling those pieces. Without all these traits, a Detective is next to worthless. ❞ ♔ ♕ ♖ ♗ ♘ ♙ ♚ ♛ ♜ ♝ ♞ ♟ -Introduction, Setting, Story, Character Classes: The Good, Character Classes: The Bad, Characters: The Rest Accepted Characters, Profile Skeletons, Profile Links, Rules-

⋨London's Finest⋩ ⋨Character Classes⋩ ♠ ♡ ♢ ♣ ♤ ♥ ♦ ♧ ❝ The Bad ≽ ≼The Organization This section is a catalogue of the various roles you may play in this game. You may choose to ally yourself with either the Detectives or the Criminals, and must report to the head of the chosen group. One character is permitted per player. Where you find crime, you find criminals. And the cream, black and wicked as it is, still rises to the top. Behind every plot is a plotter, every scheme a schemer, and every conspiracy has a Mastermind. This is the guy who's gonna tell you what's going on as you're strapped to the big metal slab with the laser beam. He's unashamedly eccentric, ambitious enough that he sold his own mother for glue, and has a mind so sharp you could cut yourself on it. He probably owns half of London, but he's not going to be appearing on any list but Most Wanted any time soon. Hang on his every word and he'll buy you a set of sharpened silver teeth; fail and the laser sharks won't go hungry.
But a twisted, rich old crime lord is useless without support, and the first line of these are the Muscle, standing by him at all hours of the day. They tend to be on the good side of six foot, and that's across the shoulders, with a smart dress sense, a face like a slapped baboon's butt and fists like shovels. Tact and situation-appropriate wit are appreciated, as well as unfathomable loyalty and biceps thick enough to break wrists like dried spaghetti. Suit required. Brain cells not.
Whilst shows of brute force are impressive, they aren't efficient. The Assassins, however, are very good in that respect. Their blades are enough to quell any snooping detective or street urchin, and even thugs on their side, so watch your backs when they're around. Usually, the colour's black and the hair immaculate. They need inhuman speed and agility, technical precision a robot would envy and no fear, whatsoever, as these angels of death travel alone and by night, clinging to the shadows...
It's all very well and good, is cutting throats and smashing skulls, but the Thieves (x3) are the ones who'll be the greatest tools in the battle to come. Breaking into buildings - to steal or to plant - not only helps fund this great cause, but is also vital in securing all the little bits and bobs things need to run smoothly. At the best of times, the Thief is resourceful, a great liar and a quick thinker, with the ability to run his way out of a sticky situation if needs be.
And one thing that rarely runs smoothly is the Tinker's arch-enemy, the Hacker. Armed only with a keyboard and a spanner, this fella'll write a virus to bring down governments in his tea break. No automaton, camera or automatic coffee dispenser is safe whilst this madman runs loose. Requires no need for sleep of any kind, a hatred for the outside world and spectacles magnified to see real computer bugs.
But, without the Eyes (x5), none of these specialised individuals could do their oh-so-illegitimate jobs. They are the secret supporters and hidden help, who inform the criminals and aid their work whenever needs be. The innkeeper, the night watchman or the taxi driver - they see anything and everything, eventually. Patience, attention to detail and unbudging love for the Mastermind, or for his gold, is all that's needed.❞ ♔ ♕ ♖ ♗ ♘ ♙ ♚ ♛ ♜ ♝ ♞ ♟ -Introduction, Setting, Story, Character Classes: The Good, Character Classes: The Bad Characters: The Rest, Accepted Characters, Profile Skeletons, Profile Links, Rules-

⋨London's Finest⋩ ⋨Rules⋩ ♠ ♡ ♢ ♣ ♤ ♥ ♦ ♧ We're all adults here, we can handle following rules; if we can't, we shouldn't be here. Posting:The length of the post is irrelevant so long as the post: addresses previous posts, responds to posts, gives others the opportunity to respond to post, and is interesting and detailed. If a post encompasses all these aspects, the post should be at least two paragraphs in length, although length is highly variable. If a post addresses all the above aspects and is still less than two paragraphs, then the poster should consider going into more detail. Be descriptive and use your words!
While post length is irrelevant, post language is not. All posts must use the third-person point of view and must have proper spelling and grammar. Firefox has a spelling checking tool, and so does Microsoft Word. There are no excuses for a post to have third grade grammar. Posters don’t need to worry about passive sentence styles or the use of contractions, but posts simply cannot include double negatives, unless they are used by the character, in character. Posts should also make good use of paragraphs and organization. Fit one topic in each paragraph- it just makes the post easier to read.
Finally, we come to posting style. It’s not necessary for your posts to include elaborate coding, small and well-placed pictures, and relevant quotes or song lyrics. It’s not necessary, but it certainly makes the posts, and the thread, more interesting. Flair and pizzazz aside, it is necessary to use proper basic coding. Speech must be in bold, thoughts must be in italics, and both thoughts and speech should be colored. This style makes posts easier to read and understand, and provides quick reference for a response.Etiquette: In this role-play, you are expected to behave maturely. No Mary-Sueism will be tolerated. Along these same lines, out-of-character disputes must stay out-of-character and may never escalate to arguments. Discourteous ooc behavior will be punished.
This role-play is hosted by Gaia, so Gaia’s rules must be obeyed. The ToS should explain any questions you may have about what Gaia deems acceptable. Our rules are Gaia’s rules.
Romance, violence, drama, and their ilk are to be expected in any role-play. In this role-play, it is expected that you will not attempt to make any one of these the focus of your posts. (This was addressed indirectly in a previous rule, but it will be stated explicitly here.) Romance, violence, and drama should follow a realistic course. No instant romance, love at first sight, god-modding, powerplaying, or emo-ing will be tolerated.❞ ♔ ♕ ♖ ♗ ♘ ♙ ♚ ♛ ♜ ♝ ♞ ♟ -Introduction, Setting, Story,Character Classes: The Good, Character Classes: The Bad, Characters: The Rest, Accepted Characters, Profile Skeletons, Profile Links, Rules-
