Kanani had been traveling along with her daughter for many months, and never before had she felt her age so much. She had lived her life as the free, adventure-loving Cerynei from the old lands, full of mystery and wonder, tied to no one and held back by nothing. She had loved that life, and had enjoyed her years of exploring the new land, meeting friends and enemies alike. And never, ever, would she take back that chance meeting that had started a whole new life of love and commitment to her mate, Crisanto. They had tried so long for children, and after what seemed forever, had finally had their beautiful foals. Kanani didn't know why exactly she was so drawn to her daughter, but knew that deep inside, the youth of her spirit had resurfaced in the face of new life. And thus, her taste of adventure had returned--but not her young self.
And though she had come through the journey just fine, her nerves were wearing thin. Her daughter, Kamakana, had a tendency to wander off without telling her mother, and despite her ability to care for herself, Kanani still worried about the dangers of unknown lands. She had witnessed her daughter grow through the journey, had seen her young, spunky self resurface in that defiant face... and for that reason, she knew that at some point, Kama WOULD indeed get in trouble. It was only a matter of time--Kanani only wished that is wasn't so stressful.
And now, at the dead of night in a strange forest unknown to her, Kanani was again worried about her daughter. Kama had grown to a young mare, and could now use her wings to silently lift herself away. Kanani knew that she didn't mean harm by her little adventures, but wished that there was some way to keep the independent filly at her side, at least on this night. Something just didn't feel right...
She glanced to the side, and saw that her daughter was still walking quietly along, her head glancing this way and that. It was only a matter of time before she tried to wander off... Kanani sighed, wishing that there was something to make this night a little easier.

Her hooves had a habit of selecting unusual times to move on. Their sudden spurts of activity used to amuse the mare, fascinate her for a considerable amount of time and yet, over the years she had grown used to it. Desensitised to the miracles that were her hooves she followed them obediently and remained acutely aware that they would reveal their purpose in time. This evening was of no exception and while she had slumbered peacefully between a thick tree trunk and a large boulder, she had found her limbs had itched so fitfully that she had been woken from her sleep. Suffice to say, it would have been accurate to assume that the Kirin was decidedly groggy this evening.
Nevertheless she had obediently followed her hooves, allowing them to heave her to a stand. From this point out they had meandered, weaving between the tree trunks that crept up into her vision. Had it not been for the eerie glow that emanated from her robes and pendant she would have been travelling blind. Well, almost blind - every now and then the moon's light would ripple through a small gap in the canopy but these were few and far between. She could be thankful for small favours, thankful that the priest she had bonded with her blessed her so dearly. It was just unfortunate that when her attire became so useful it brought back rather grieve ridden memories.
She dismissed these thoughts, quickly and efficiently, preferring not to dwell on sombre topics. She didn't like the sense of desolation, the complete loss and as a consequence she mulled over the potential reasons for her sudden awakening. It wasn't often that she was disturbed from a deep slumber but this evening her hooves were adamant. Bizarrely, they were even moving much more quickly and efficiently than before. It was possible that there was an emergency at hand but it would have been more logical to assume that a unicorn would have been summoned, or something to that affect.
A tiny sigh escaped from her lips and while no answers were immediately forthcoming, the Kirin continued to proceed through the forest. It had been a long time since she'd explored by night and she did have to admire the unusual shadows that her pendant cast upon the path ahead. The shapes could be warped on occasions but were for the most part abstract. Alas, she had no way of knowing that she was quickly approaching the wandering mother and daughter. As a consequence she couldn't warn them of her immediate approach nor reassure them of her intentions - all the indication she could provide for her existence was that ghostly green glow that continued to draw near. Her hooves refrained from dragging on the ground and no heavy thumps would be heard, but every now and again there was a slightly whisper of movement as her drape brushed against the ferns.
She wasn't quite a ghost, but any paranoid soquili might think she was at first!
