Needles: 8 US/5.00mm knitting needles or size needed to obtain gauge
Yarn: Red Heart Super Saver or other worsted weight acrylic
Gauge: 17 sts over 4 inches. Go up or down a needle size if it's not right as gauge is important for this. If you can't get it to work, knit a swatch, measure over four inches, divide by 4, then multiply that number by 5 to get how many stitches to cast on.
Cast on 19 stitches. Work in garter stitch until square (check by lifting one corner to the upper opposite corner; if it all matches up, it's time to bind off). Bind off. Weave in ends.
Arrange the squares so that the garter stitch "lines" are perpendicular to the one below it and next to it. Sew four squares like this to form a pinwheel shape. Make twenty eight squares for a total of seven pinwheels.

It should look something like that.

Since I'm waiting on one person, you can start knitting when you want. I'll post how many squares/pinwheels to make when I find out. In the meantime, save your yarn ends if you want, so you can make scrap yarn! weave the ends together using a Russian join, and wind it into a ball. When you have enough, you can make something with it! Pic tutorial here; video tutorial here.
