A tiny child made her way through the vast floral garden, occaisionally stopping to read a plaque or to inspect a bloom. By her size, she looked like toddler, by her eyes and mannerisms said otherwise. The girl had just grown the evening before, and was giving her new legs, and new freedoms, a stretch. This was her first outing out by herself, and so far it'd been okay. Only a few people had asked "where here mommy is", though the use of baby talk towards her had been abundant. Ugh.
But, Aesica was content. And well fed, as the young artists slumped in sleep by the wall could contest for. The dainty little child stopped at a rose bush, standing on tiptoe to look over an overflowing, blood red bloom. Simply beautiful. The child sighed, happy with the quiet solitude she'd found her. Thank goodness the gardens were never too busy or to crowded; the quiet gave a girl room to think.

Normally Loki wouldn't have been caught in a garden--okay, he would have. He had two green thumbs (not literally, he liked to point out) and was proud of it. Not that he would have admitted his ability to his twin, no. He was sure Milo would find some reason to make fun of him because of it.
He paused when he spotted a vaguely familar looking child. He stared. He didn't want to go up to her at first, in case he was wrong, though he was almost certain he wasn't. The sleeping people gave him a clue. "Aesica?" he asked, moving towards her. "You grew!" Not much, though, he noted.

Aesica looked up, smiling slowly at her pet. "Yes, I did." she said, looking up at him. The smile slowly faded into a frown as she realized something; her pet was STILL much taller than her. No matter; she was still growing. She was sure to catch up eventually.
"What brings you here, Loki?" the little half-fae asked, feeling the petals of one one of the large, blood-red blooms between her petite little fingers.

"I like your hair," Loki mused, smiling down at her. "You've gotten really pretty, Ae." Okay, what was with him complimenting her today? This wasn't normal. He decided to ignore the urge to compliment her, and answered her question instead.
"Oh, I'm looking around," he said. "Looking for flower types I might want to put in the garden. Mom likes keeping me outside, you know," he lowered his voice, and grinned. "She thinks it'll keep me out of trouble, but she's got no idea how many spiders I've made friends with out in the garden. What about you?"

Aesica smiled back. "Thank you, I know." she said, being ever-so modest. She hugged her pet as a reward, smiling. There was a reason this pet was her favorite; he was affectionate and did as was asked of him. All the qualities of a good pet.
"This is my first outing alone by myself." the dark-haired child said, proud. "I grew last night, so I'm treating myself to a trip here." She smiled, bending down to pick a bright pink flower with spindly fibers. "Cleome hassleriana." she said, holding the bloom up for him to see. "A spider flower. You could grow these."

Loki returned the hug quite happily. "I know you know," he said, grinning at her vanity. He studied the bloom she held for a moment, before nodding. "They're pretty," he said, wondering how she had found it's scientific name. Was it written somewhere, and he had missed it? "I like them. Do you like flowers, Ae?" Maybe he could give her some for a present.
"Can I hang out with you?" he asked. "Unless you'd rather spend your first day out alone."

Aesica smiled lightly, looking amused. "I don't so much like flowers as I like what they stand for." she said, handing the bloom over to him. "Each bloom has a message of it's own." She then nodded. "Of course you may "hang out" with me." she said, the new phrase rolling awkwardly over her tongue. With how much time she spent around her mother, you'd think she'd start to pick up on the lingo.

Loki studied the bloom for a moment, before looking back at Aesica. "So what do spider flowers mean?" he asked, curious. Weren't spider flowers the running joke between his parents? He never understood it. "I know what begonias and poppies mean," he added, so he didn't look entirely stupid.
No, not when he wanted to impress her. He smiled, and offered her his hand. "Let's walk through the gardens, huh? You can tell me what the flowers are saying."

Aesica looked at the flower before shrugging. "I don't know for sure." she said, looking back to the other flowers. "I see them in dreams, though, so they must mean something very important." She stared at the flowers in question before looking up at him.
Her tiny hand reached out to take hold of his, her head nodding. "Let's." she affirmed, taking a step forward to lead her pet onward.

They must have been important if Aesica was dreaming about them, Loki decided. "Mom talks about them sometimes, but I think it's a joke she and Dad have. I'll ask her what they mean, if you want."
He followed her, smiling. There were no adults to ruin the day, no Milo to make fun of him. "So what's your favorite flower and it's meaning, Ae?" he asked, curious. "I like daffodils and stuff... not for the meaning, you know. I don't know their meaning. I just like them."
