Wolfram wandered along the shelves of the children's section on his own as his crossbar floated above him and the strings wiggled about in the air. He was left to his own devices. It might have been a bad idea but the Satyress hoped that there were things about that were far, far beyond the boy's interest or desire to steal. Luis had wandered off with her youngest son toward the section that offered books and reading for toddlers.
The thief marionette stared at the shelves of books and quietly read off the titles to himself. These seemed absolutely dull until he stopped by a book called Robin Hood. He tilted his head to the side and reached up to grasp the book so that he may look at the back to read what it was about. The summary was brief but satisfactory and so he tucked it under his arms almost promptly forgetting he had gotten it in his grasp to begin with. Chances were he'd probably wander off with it if left unchecked.
He wandered toward a display case that held a rather particularly nice chunk of fool's gold. The display mentioned something about Gold Rush somewhere that he didn't care about. So what if the gold wasn't real. It was shiny and he wanted it...

Lilah had been reading (although, it was a rare occasion that she wasn't somehow absorbed in a book), when a strange...person passed by her. She blinked, closed her book, reread the cover, and then stood up to follow.
He stopped at the display for Robin Hood (a personal favorite, even though it didn't have any princesses. She didn't count Marian), then moved on. She watched his crossbar and strings with agape mouth, and watched his odd (were they jointed??) hands as he moved about.
She wondered if he knew he still had the book, maybe he intended on buying it, though. That IS what one did at a bookstore.
Lilah stepped closer to him, sneaking around behind the display so she was in front of him, but still obscured by the Golden display. She raised up her book, as if to compare the image on the front, to this boy.
"PINOCCHIO!" she cried happily.

One would think that as a thief, or rather an item redistribution specialist, he would have a rather keen sense about whether or not he was being tailed, but he didn't seem to have any sort of inkling about that at all! That or he was far too confident about the atmosphere of where he was that he didn't think anyone would bother to trail after him curious or not. Whatever the case may be he one moment he was staring at the display the next moment he felt a jolt of shock run up along his spine and he almost dropped the book in his possession.
Wolfram let out a yelp as he clutched the book to his chest and cried out, "IDIDN'TTAKEIT! ISWEAR!" it was an odd self defense mechanism that he seemed to have as he peered about before he just barely saw the girl on the other side of the display and suddenly felt foolish. A blush rose across his ruddy cheeks as he edged around it to peek at her, "Pinoc--who?" he queried with a raised eyebrow.
She was certainly pretty enough! Wolf decided she could scare him any time she wanted.

Lilah tilted her head sideways, confused. He...didn't take it? What was he talking about? She ignored it. His nose wasn't growing, so he must be telling the truth! Although Lilah had recently gotten older and taller, it seemed she hadn't gotten any wiser. She still tried to find people from her stories around her, and she refused to believe they were 'just stories'. She wanted there to be princesses and faeries and talking puppets and talking animals to be running around, and she hoped that some had lived these tales in her books.
"Pinocchio!" she repeated, holding out the book to him. Her face turned a little pink. Maybe...maybe he wasn't Pinocchio. But he sure seemed to be a walking, talking puppet boy.
"He's a puppet. Who wants to be a real boy!"

He didn't seem to pay much mind to her look of confusion. Wolfram won't be so quick to admit to anything even when their attention was directly on him and questioning. He stared at the book and then looked up at her and then down at the book again thoughtfully, Wolfram gave her a crooked grin, "Friend, you may call me Pinocchio if ya want. It'd be a shame t'see a pretty face like yours with a frown," he allowed quietly as he reached up and reached a free hand for the book, "May I see it, friend? My real name is Wolfram, just so you know," he winked.
Wolfram waited to see if she'd allow him to handle the book as he listened to her explain the character to him and he gave her the same crooked grin, "That so? Haha, I suppose that is a good thing t'want! I'm quite happy bein' as I am, though."

"Wolfram," Lilah repeated, the look of confusion leaving. Well, that was almost as interesting as 'Pinocchio', maybe even a cooler name (certainly easier to spell!). She handed the book over to him cheerfully, always happy to share the fun of a book with someone.
"So you are a puppet boy?" she blurted out. Tact was not one of her virtues. "Does your nose grow when you lie?? That's how the Blue Fairy knew! And then Pinocchio never lied again."
She wondered if after he became a boy, if Pinocchio's nose would still grow...

He took the book from the girl and began to flip through it while he kept Robin Hood safely tucked under his arm. The child flipped through the pages before he nodded a little, "I see, Friend. Do you have a name yourself or do I just call ya whatever I think suits ya?" he said as he grinned toward her. Wolfram certainly wasn't shy that was for certain.
Wolfram laughed a little, "I guess so! No, no my nose it doesn't grow when I lie," he said simply and left it at that. Something did happen when he lied but it opened up to people being able to read him and he didn't want that. Not unless the girl was willing to give him something of value for that tidbit of information.
The boy stared at the book she handed him and with mild difficulty he offered it back to her. She had it first after all!

"Oh! I'm Lilah!" she had been so caught up in the excitement of talking about a book, pleasantries and formalities had skipped her mind. She had to be careful, she was becoming more and more forgetful like Momma everyday...
She stuck out a hand, like Maggie had taught her. "It's nice to meet you!" Then, hesitantly and a bit curiously, she looked up at him. "What kind of name would you call me?"
She took the book back from him, smiling and thanking him.
"What books do you like reading?" she asked.

"Oh ho! What a lovely name you have," he said cheerfully not seeming bothered to shower the girl with compliments and he even sounded sincere which probably made the situation that much better, "Nice to meet you, too," Wolfram chattered on happily. He stared at her quietly when she asked what he would call her. He reached up a jointed hand and tugged at his chin thoughtfully, "I would call you White Gold," he said simply, "Goldie for short." the living Marionette added.
He admired her golden eyes, they were like his.
The boy lapsed into another thoughtful silence before he said, "Oh anything with action in it, really. Robin Hood caught my attention because o' the man with the bow and arrow on the cover, seemed excitin'."

Lilah giggled and clapped her hands. "Like Goldie Locks!" she said excitedly. She liked it.
The little girl nodded. Action books were pretty neat. "I like princess stories the best!" she said. "And then...um..." she tried to think. "Magic stories. Those are different from princess stories, right?" There was magic in a lot of the princess stories, but then Aladdin, which had a genie wasn't really a princess story, but it had magic. Lilah wasn't sure...
"You should read Tom Sawyer! It has lots of action. There's a boy and a fence and a...an 'Injun Joe' and a cave with treasure!"

Wolfram laughed a bit and nodded, "Yes like her," he said cheerfully, "only you're far prettier," he added with actual sincerity. He really did like how she looked he admired her appearance and obviously she was well cared for because she seemed healthy. He listened to her as she spoke with a bit of a tilted head.
"Princess stories hm? One where a fair damsel is rescued by a handsome prince?" He asked curiously and then when a question was throne at him he paused to consider it. He cocked his head from one side to the other before he answered, "I guess it really depends, Friend Goldie. Perhaps if there is both magic and a princess it is just a Magic Princess story? I know not."
He wasn't exactly a literary expert.
"Tom Sawyer? Sounds like a good read, I will look into it." He assured her with a boyish grin.

Lilah's face turned a little pink after Wolfram complimented her, but only said "Oh, I know!" It wasn't meant to sound vain or presumptuous, but just stated matter of factly. She liked to think she was princess-pretty, and her foster mother always mentioned her bright, shining gold eyes and golden hair (also adding 'shame about those zillions of freckles" but Lilah never took any notice of it).
"Maybe," she said, musing. "But the princesses never seem to HAVE magic." That was something that had started to bother her. Her princess stories, they were all about the princess being rescued or 'catching' (whatever that meant) some handsome prince. Lilah liked the idea of a 'handsome prince' but..."Why can't they do things for themselves?" she asked out loud. It seemed silly to her. Didn't these princesses ever think? If there's a big giant well, don't play with your golden toy next to it!

"Course ya know, Goldie," He chuckled not seeming put off by her words or her attitude. Wolfram had no illusions about whether Lilah was complimented or not. If she didn't he would have been surprised - very surprised. He'd have been so surprised that it'd probably shock the color right off of him. If anything he admired the confidence she displayed and even admired the fact that she still had the grace to blush even though she heard it often.
He tilted his head a bit as he watched her thinking mostly aloud to herself. A small smirk appeared on the boy's lips as he pointed at her, "You can be that Princess, Goldie. I am sure you have some sort of 'magic' thing you can do and even then you can be that princess that does things for herself and doesn't need a prince~," Wolfram encouraged. Anything to help others be independent, right?
"You could set a whole new example," he added after a moment with a large grin.

Lilah contemplated this for a moment. "Well...Perhaps." She wasn't sure if she was influential enough to set a new example, and she didn't have any magic that she knew of. Unless stuff she liked to do counted as magic. She liked to write...but was that magic?
"Do you have some sort of magic thing?" she asked. She'd never met anyone with real magic! Unless you counted her house, which seemed to grow new rooms occasionally, but she hadn't ever 'met' the house, she just lived there.
"Maggie says she does magic. But I think she's just playing."

Wolfram seemed amused when she seemed uncertain about her own ability to lead the other Princesses to a shining new Era. He shrugged quietly and watched her with a bit of a tilted head, "If you believe in yourself that's the best magic you could have," he said simply. It sounded corny but he found that it was true. After all if he didn't believe in himself he wouldn't have so many neat things in his possession back at home.
When questioned about whether or not he could do magic he looked up thoughtfully before he looked back at her and rolled back a sleeve to show more of his arm, "Watch!" he said to her quietly and went about concentrating and slowly but surely his skin took on a new fleshy tone, turning much paler than it was before. He was pretty proud of his ability to do this.
"Maggie? Who is this Maggie?"
