never heard of anything of the sort... that'd be neat though.

maybe you should head over to a music store (the instrument kind not the CD kind) and check out a cheap tuner or a pitch pipe... Some even have metronomes with them and they're not all that bad.

i got an idea for you....go buy a tuner....then practice with the tuner and learn the sound.....next try tuning by ear and check the tuner to see how far your off.....otherwise i remember there was some site that had the tuning, but if you cant see your teacher then try tuning best you can.

If you want a sound that sounds pure, I would suggest a tuning fork. They produce lovely, ringing sounds that are a pleasure to tune to.

However, if you want to make absolutely sure you're in tune, buy a tuner that will tell you if you are sharp or flat. Then do as Warchant suggested and practice hearing the note inside your head.

I just have a Korg CA-30. Cheap electronic tuner, works fine. For some reason I always tune just a teensy bit sharp though.

That's the way the violin works. A violin is made to play sharps. While it can play flats, violinists are much more comfortable with sharps.
