I put this in another guild and it created problems, so at least here I would be scolded by the "princess of Jupiter." Some of you may know that reference. Well here I go... fyi my romajin sucks.
Top 3 most overused lines in anime:
1. Daijoubo? (Are you okay? informal)
2. Betsu-ni. (Nothing of importance)
3. Doushite? (What?! or Really??)
At least these don't need an explanation in this guild. Please add any if you wish.

If these are overused in anime, then they are also overused in real life, lol. The three phrases you just mentioned are actually essential for a casual conversation, I think.
On the other hand, I think there are certain things that are probably used more in anime than in real life. But mostly it's a style of speech rather than specific phrases. I think that Kansai-ben is overused to make characters sound more interesting. Men are made to speak much more casually than they would normally dare to address another woman with in real life. That sort of thing.
That's just my impression, though. ^_^

Ivy Lana Lee If these are overused in anime, then they are also overused in real life, lol. The three phrases you just mentioned are actually essential for a casual conversation, I think. On the other hand, I think there are certain things that are probably used more in anime than in real life. But mostly it's a style of speech rather than specific phrases. I think that Kansai-ben is overused to make characters sound more interesting. Men are made to speak much more casually than they would normally dare to address another woman with in real life. That sort of thing. That's just my impression, though. ^_^ that's true, especially the uses of "I" in several anime. I consulted a friend of mine who once lived in japan for a few years and speaking of "I" is different. Although "watashi" or "atashi" are common for women to use for "I", males tend to use it too. Also "boku" "ore" are used mostly by men but women also use them as well. Although most of those are yankees or women who are tough.

I mean, how else can you specify if someone is a male, female, girl, boy, student, teacher, doctor, etc.? Or how can you introduce yourself without saying the word "am" or describe something in particular? We use the verb "to be" every single day of our lives, whether we are aware of it or not. In this post of mine, I've already uttered the words "am, are, and is" 8 times.
