In the past few days, he had wandered, and wandered very far. In fact, this had probably been his longest journey since moving to this land so many years ago. Grindery wasn't one for moving very often, in fact he was somewhat a homebody. But in his grief, he had forgotten his surroundings and walked, head held low, moving for the sake of moving and hoping to find some relief in it. He hadn't yet and soon he began to think he never would.

Stopping at the edge of a lake, he dipped his head and took a long drink, so long that when he finally pulled his muzzle back he was gasping and breathless. It had been a while since he stopped to drink and, from his shivering appearance, it was obvious he hadn't eaten in a bit, either. Such things were the least of his worries.

He could only think of his mother, a mare he had not seen in such a long time that all he had was a memory of her face and a vague idea of what she had been like. Around a week ago he had been told with great certainty by a stranger that she had passed on. He had almost laughed, calling the stranger a liar. However, after hearing the names of his mother, his 'brother,' and even his other 'mother' come from the lips of the stranger, he began to believe. And when he was told that his other 'mother' had been the one who bade this stranger bring the news, while the 'brother' wanted to keep it from him, he knew. The grudge between 'brothers' was still there and no one could have been so right unless they actually knew the players in this long lost family drama.

Heaving his form away from the water, he continued to walk with no destination. He had abandoned her, his mind told him. He was not there at her last hour, he was not able to comfort her. In his stubbornness, he had let his mother down and now she was gone. There was not even a chance for goodbye.

Zaria yawned silently, she was starting to feel bone weary but kept one foot in front of the other and walked on. Her Job as a scout for her herd could at time be exhausting but very rewarding. After all this time Zaria had finally found a place were she could belong. Her time alone had shaped her into the perfect scout. One that was self reliant and always aware on potential danger.

Little could be remembered about her past history. Zaria remembered that the herd she was born into had been a small herd and they had coats shone like rainbows and then a Massive storm. A separation, a loneliness a loss of family and oneself. Of what could have been but that was in the past and had no place in Zaria thoughts.

Zaria shook her head and walked forward she noticed the vegetation was starting to become more abundant a good sign. She knew water was up ahead. She pursed her lips together and let out a long whistle alerting her bunny familiar

The water was still close behind him. The steps he took were much slower than they had been. With so much water in his belly, filling it with a false sense of satisfaction, he was growing very tired. Eyes became heavy and he eventually stopped moving all together. Head falling low, he seemed for a moment to doze where he stood without thought for his surroundings.

It was then that a sharp sound rang through the air around him, snapping him awake and to bleary attention. A grogginess hung about his person, but he could tell someone had whistled. He just couldn't tell where it had come from. His ears only flopped and twisted uselessly on the top of his head.

The call hadn't been for him, that much was certain, but for some reason Grindery found himself reacting to it. He began to walk again, albeit slowly and a bit uncertainly, in the direction he had been going. And after a while of walking, it looked as if his thoughtless persistence had paid off. There was something in the distance, the familiar form of another horse. But the sight stopped him again and he stood rooted, staring out.

Now Zaria just had to wait. Waiting was not one of Zaria traits but she knew ziggy would do his usual and zip right to her. Typically, Zaria had a restless energy that surged through her being telling her to move to always move. The job of a scout suited her wanderlust perfectly. It filled her longing of adventure and gave Zaria a sense of reasonability.

It was only now as Zaria got older that she reached a calmer state of mind. Where she could yearn for a more peaceful life, in which she was finally finding in the formation of her herd. A place where she could peacefully settle and perhaps even imagine having a family.

Zaria, surveyed the land. Looks like there was little trouble in this direction. She filled away the possible watering hole in her memory. Zaria, slowly walked forward near to where she believed she would find water.

Twitching her ear, she heard a noise. A sound of slow dragging footsteps and the sound was coming closer. Weary of danger she remained silent hoping the animal would overlook her. Zaria doubted it because her color coat was a dead giveaway but one could only hope.

The silhouette in the distance began to move, coming closer as if undaunted by the sight him or anything else. Perhaps the other horse hadn't seen him, as slouched as his body was and as thick as the foliage seemed to be within a few miles of the lake. Without putting much thought into it, he moved away from the growth of bushes that was protecting him, rustling them considerably. His gaze was still trained on the form as it became larger and more colorful.

It was against his better judgment to keep going now and he yet he did. The Soq became obviously female in his eyes and something, the emotional, non-rational part he thought he had left behind a long time ago, woke up. It was a female and, as well as his now unthinking brain knew, this could be his mother. As tired as he was, his pace became quicker with the momentary idea that if he reached her, he could see her again, if only for a moment. He had to apologize. Grindery had to tell her that, for all the time he'd spent away from the place he once called home, he always thought of her. Even if it was a lie.

Legs became wobbly as his jaunt became an almost run towards the form that he thought he knew. He was almost there, just a little bit further-

Finally, as if jolted back to reality, he stopped. The face, the markings... This wasn't his mother, this wasn't even someone he knew. And suddenly, he felt completely foolish. The sudden stop had left him tripping and he had to give as much as he had left to keep himself from falling to the ground. Who knew who this female was and he had trotted at her without abandon. He threw his head and began to step away. Again he almost tripped, walking blindly backwards.

Zaria tried to remain very silent as she heard the steps come closer no her. Why couldn't she have a lovely plain brown coat that while not the prettiest stood out a whole lot less then her rainbow coat that resembles the evening sunset.

The rustling of the bushes alarmed her but she would wait and see if this was a friend or foe perhaps it was only a friendly animal that would have no interest in her , well one could always hope.

A bullet of color rushes towards her. Narrowing her eyes she spotted a colorful streak bulletined towards her. Zaria let out a high pitched squeal as a male soq rushed forward towards her. Zaria angrily showed her teeth she was nobody's prey. “Easy prey I think not!” She screamed her defiance at the rainbow spotted stallion hustling towards her.

He stood in front of her with a surprised face almost in a daze. He seemed unaware of her anger or the his surrounding. Holding a vacant look in his eyes the male soq seemed just as surprised as she was.

It was as if time was flowing on some sort of delay. The mare's words finally met his brain and he understood that, in his haste, he had been a threat to her. That hadn't been his attention. Far from it. But as his sleep-deprived mind tried to piece together what to do next, how to remedy this unusual situation, he came up with nothing. Only a confused stare as he continued to watch her and back away until he finally hit a group of rocks, which startled him to a halt.

In the moment he was now given, a semblance of calm washed over him. He looked at her and his vision became clearer, his mind buzzed, he was awake. For a moment, he could truly feel her anger and surprise and in that split second, he wanted to begin his normal processes of understanding why she felt that way. He didn't believe himself to be threatening, at least not phsyically. He wanted to judge her as he always judged.

But something was happening. The next moment came and his thoughts began to cloud over again. He could only see her for what what she presented and not how he himself assumed she was. "I'm sorry," the words tumbled out his his mouth, sounding disorganized and unfamiliar. It wasn't like him to apologize so quickly. The breaths that fell from his maw were suddenly heavier and came with great effort. The strain of running in his condition caught up to him.

"I'm sorry, I..." Dulling orange eyes stared at her as if he had no idea what was going on anymore.

(( No worries. I hope you're feeling better now. <3 ))

Zaria glared at the stallion he was either a threat crazy or severally lacking in manners. If the first one she was not going to be a victim of anyone and experience had taught her to fight dirty and do whatever in takes to defend oneself. If the second perhaps he could be distracted and she could make a get away. If the third well there was just no excuse for a badly behaved soq and well picky eaters.

zaria needed to make her mind up under what classification this strange male soq fell in. She gazed at him carefully trying to make up her mind.He was taller then she and easily outweighed her. His coat was just as vibrant as was his hair. However upon closer exploration his glassy eyes held a vacant look and his leg shook.

"I'm sorry." he voice quivered as he spoke. Zaria was becoming more concerned for this unknown male. He seemed sick and was perhaps delirious.

"Are you ok?" She asked as she stepped closer to him.

His body was still shaking rather obviously as he stared at her, not so much seeing anymore as simply waiting for something happen, knowing something was supposed to happen. This sort of situation was unnverving, completely foreign and unusual. Grindery just couldn't reel in his thoughts anymore. His mind was all over the place and his thoughts had all squashed together into some sort of unintelligable mush. For a horse as smart as he, it was frustrating to be so far gone that forming a coherent thought was mostly impossible.

Letting out another heavy breath, he continued to stare. The female's question had him furrowing his brows. No, he wasn't okay. His whole body hurt and he felt confused. Part of him, that logical, but proud part, tried to argue that it was nothing. Asking for help was something he rarely, if ever, did. Still, his mind was losing the fight to his body. And all in all, it was probably a good thing.

"No..." he finally choked out, feeling a weight in his chest as he spoke. "No, I don't feel well." Yet, he couldn't articulate why. It hurt too much still, thinking of his mother. Thinking of how he abandoned her and was now alone for good. "I'm tired..." It was the best he could think to say.

It pained Zaria to see such a strong looking soq in agony. She mused to herself that perhaps he would never heal. Experience had taught Zaria that when one experiences great tragedy one becomes stronger, twisted or their soul becomes tired of living. Zaria had a hunch that this soq was facing shadows of his past and seemed not to be gazing at her but seeing something else.

"I'm tired," He whispered. Zaria could hear the hopeless despair in his voice. A soundless scream of agony said behind two words. It was at moment that Zaria decided to help him as much as she could.

"Ok I'll find some way to help you," she said with her kindest voice. The voice she used with small foals and cute furry animals.

What could she do? Grindery was quiet again and for a moment it seemed like his breathing had almost stopped. What could she do? The question played over and over in his head. There was nothing that could be done now. His mother was dead and gone, she wasn't coming back. This stranger... she could do nothing. Lowering his head, he let out a small laugh. There was no humor behind it.

"There's nothing to be done..." he told her, slowly, contemplatively. "She's already dead." The stallion was not the emotional type under normal circumstances. He had never cried before. Not that he could remember, at least. However, today was a turning point. Today, at this moment, he shut his eyes and cried. "It's too late..."

Without thinking, he stepped forward. This mare's voice was in his head again. That kind voice the likes of which he hadn't heard from anyone in a long time. Perhaps because in his normal state he never opened up enough to let people care. It wasn't at all like his mother's voice, but it was something he needed now. "I don't know what to do," he muttered, leaning so close to her that his mane brushed her shoulder.

Zaria was at first surprised when the stranger leaned against her. She became tense that a stranger she didn't know and didn't trust was so near her. But seeing as he meant no harm she relaxed and leaned back against the weakened male. Comfort was the only thing she could give him. He heaved in silent cry's. It was probably good for him to let go. " There water not to far from here. It's a rather pretty place with flowers all around. A Good drink of water is high called for,"Zaria said with a smile. One had to pay attention to the here and now as well. Perhaps a drink of water could help strenghthen the body as for the soul only time..

If he had been thinking straight, he never would have let himself get so close to anyone, let alone a mare he didn't know. As she slowly relaxed, though, he felt more comfort in the simple fact that she was there. Maybe he wasn't as alone as he thought. Sucking in a deep breath, his eyes finally began to dry again. "Okay..." he replied, nearly under his breath. "He could feel his throat already screaming for water again. Considering how weak his body was, he had pushed it hard just a few minutes earlier. He stayed put for just a moment longer before finally pulling back, lifting his head back up, although it still drooped somewhat. He was obviously exhausted. "Can you show me...?"

"Leave it to me." Zaria said happily at least in some way she could help the stallion. She remained every weary keeping close eyes on the grass. At least her fam Ziggy was far away. That headache she could avoid. The weary male did not need to have a annoying familiar screeching at him. " Come this way it's not very far but be careful with your footing. It can get a bit rocky near the pond. Though i suppose since the water in the direction you came from perhaps you don't need my help at all." Zaria said with a laugh but I'm you don't mind a gorgeous guide I'm your girl." Zaria thought he looked weak and needed help to the lake that was the real reason she wanted to accompany him.
