Body modifications are everywhere now, whether its a woman dying her hair, a mother getting a tummy tuck after having a child, or an adult getting a tattoo.

Everyone has different views on these modifications; be it they are alright in small doses or they shouldn't be around at all and natural beauty is the clear winner.

At first they were to show how you ranked in a tribe older members had bigger earlobes or bigger lip plates since a lot of the time it represented knowledge.
Then we go to modern day 2010 everywhere people have modifications almost all women have their ears pierced and many men do as well. Hair dying and makeup is also a common thing to see.

Don't like something about your body? Then you can fix it. Want to add something? You can do that too! Cosmetic Surgeons used to be only for celebrities and the rich now for under $100 an hour you can get Botox!

How do you feel about modifying your body? Discuss!~

I think that they shouldn't be around at all. Of course not on a level that's legislated, just as a matter of them being universally accepted as distasteful.
I will make the exception though. If there's an accident of some sort and someone loses a portion of their face or something to that effect, I do not have the same stance on cosmetic surgery. I also support a woman getting a tummy tuck if (and only if) she's had a child, and maybe even surgery (if absolutely all else fails) to regrow hair. What I'm saying is that I support putting things back to the way they were, though this does not apply to things like face-lifts and the like. Doing it just for younger looking skin isn't something that I see as acceptable, in fact if looking some years younger is the priority of someone at the age where they might consider getting a face lift, I'd think it rather sad, especially considering that they'd be willing to pay copious amounts of money and go under the knife for it.
To reiterate an argument that I recently made: "I love a girl that has the confidence to cultivate a natural appearance and the modesty to respond with sincere gratitude to being told that she's beautiful. There's nothing quite like that.
"Then again, it's not so much about confidence. It's about not being caught up in artifice and allowing her natural beauty to show. Were I not from this planet and I knew that the female aesthetic was based largely upon softness and gentleness and I was told that small scale impalement with metal rods with attached spheres and stones would really catch on, I'd never have believed it."
Tattoos I find even worse. I don't think I've ever even seen one that fully integrates itself with the body that it's on (for example a symbol on the palm that works with the contours of the hand, or something like that). People aren't clever enough, it seems, to keep it from looking like anything other than ink laying on the surface.
To be quite frank, I hate tattoos on women even more than on men. Mostly, I think it's my admiration for the female form, whatever the shape. I have never seen a tattoo on a female that I ever regarded as anything but an annoyance and a distraction. To be quite frank, if I were to ever sexually engage a woman with a tattoo, I think I would almost have to limit myself to positions where it was obscured from my sight, as it would be all that I could look at and as I said it would just be an interest-robbing, unpleasant distraction and interruption.

I suppose it depends on what Id be modifying. If they could make me stronger faster better than before then sure its a cyborgs life for me. As far as piercings go, not really my thing. However I dont really worry to much about other people having piercings. Ive dyed my hair in the past. Might do it again.

How do I feel about modifying my body? no botox.
For some reason I find that more strange than most types of body mods. Maybe its the injection thing. I dunno.

I LOVE body modifications.

I'll start with piercings!~
I think my love for them started sometime around when I was 4, my mom took me to get my ears pierced. After I got them done I told EVERYONE about them; I'd see someone at the grocery store with earrings and I'd say "I have earrings too!".
Then I started to notice other piercings; when I was 6 I had a friend and her mother had a nose piercing, I thought it was the coolest thing EVER.
So for my 12th birthday my mom took me to get my nose pierced. After looking at a bunch of piercings the piercer did on other people I had lots of ideas in my head!~
Now at 19.. 17 piercings in my skin and I want more!~
I love piercings and seeing people with piercings; they just seem to add to the body so nicely.
Obviously 20 piercings on the face is going a bit overboard.. but some nicely placed pieces of metal.. I love it.

As for tattoos; I love seeing a well done tattoo.
Doesn't matter what is it.. as long as it is done by a skilled artist.
I might not like what the design is.. but if the shading is good, lines are straight and smooth I will like the tattoo.
As for people that get tattoos done at home and by bad artists.. I just don't understand it; the art is going to be on your body FOREVER. At least put in the effort to look up a decent artist in your area.
My body is currently inkless.. but come November I'll have some wasps on my foot. <3

Makeup and Hairdye are easily lumped into one. >__>;
I love both; if I want to change my hair colour I can; if I want to make my eyes stand out I can use makeup.
If I have a pimple I can put on some makeup and make it look like it's not even there and be totally confident.
I don't want to have to sulk around and feel lame because of something on my face.. I'd rather just hide it and feel like I can be seen by anyone.

Plastic Surgery is a really tough one for me.
I don't like the idea of "I don't like my nose.. so I'll get a nose job".
But when someone is disfigured from an accident then I could see it.
You lose a lot of weight and you are stuck with lots of loose skin, staple it back.
I personally plan on having a tummy tuck once I have children, but other then that.. I don't want anything.
Liposuction is another thing I don't like.

I don't like too many piercings on anyone one persons face. I do LOve me some snake bites though. The only thing I have ever had is one ear piercing, My friends want me to get gages but... Eh... I never saw the appeal.

I want a tattoo of my favorite quote from a song on my back but that's it. I believe a tattoo should be something meaningful about yourself not just random s**t.

As for plastic surgery... not touching that.

Don't let your friends talk you into stuff you don't want. =D
Especially when it comes to stretching your ears.. since if you do that too fast or the wrong way and your ears will look like cat bums. D;

I stretched my earlobes when I was 15 and wanted a something new.. I love them! <3
They're small enough that my ears still have the original shape, but big enough to stick fingers through to gross out children. xd

Never Stop Dreaming...

I'm alright. I don't care what you do with your body with your own money.
I personally would only want a few piercings and maybe a tattoo or two. I would never get anything major like size 0 gauges or something like that.
Just as long as you don't have a piercing for every part of your face, or tattoos on every part of your body, I don't care. modifications are okay in limited quantities.

As for plastic surgery...meh. I think that getting DD implants is a little over the top. Unless it's something small, I don't want plastic surgery. If it goes wrong, you could have gruesome scars and I prefer loosing weight and looking pretty the old fashioned way.
Oh, and too much make-up is not cool. I never wear more than eyeliner, mascara and lip gloss...it's bad for your skin too.

Snake bites are awesome =D
gauges are gross. They smell horrid and if their big, they're just gross.

I agree. A tattoo stays with you for life, it should mean something to you forever.

First they aren't called 'gauges' gauge is a unit of measurement. XD
You stretch your ears to a certain size, and the sizes are measured using the gauge system.

Anyways; my earlobes rarely get stinky.. I know how to take care of my body mods and my body. XD
I take my plugs out when I shower, moisturize them with oil, then put the plugs back in.
My 00g earlobes are healthy and smell like.. skin?

I think if you're going to do body mod, then you should go all out and do something original. Have a needle threaded carefully through your torso, in the front, out the back, taking care to miss the bones and organs. Then insert a rod through.
Then, once it's healed enough to be safe, slowly gauge it wider and wider. When you're done, you will actually have a hole through your body that you can actually see through.
The only tough part is finding a doctor foolish enough to risk his license over what will almost surely be a fatal procedure and not dying of sepsis, gangrene, or complications caused by infection.

I do have a few more ideas, one of them being natural body armor.
This one is more feasible. First, you tape off some areas around the joints, eyes, and other high-articulation areas with waterproof tape. Then you soak yourself in brine, and we're talking full body immersion. Get a snorkel and a barrel and go to.
Yes, I do mean pickle brine, but no I don't mean modern pickle brine. I mean the stuff that that leather-faced boxer used in... It was somewhere between 1920 and 1950, if I recall.
What I'm not clear on exactly is how long this will take. Trial, error and the internet should aid you here.
Once this is done, put one large metal stud in a web work all over your body. One every square inch should do it. Make sure that it's in securely enough to survive some tug and pull. It may be better to do full implantation rather than by piercing. I do warn you that you may just want to try this part before getting... Upholstered.
When you're all done, voila! If you've done it right, you now have full-body, studded leather armor and you'll have it wherever you go.
Getting through the airport will always be a nightmare, but if you're regularly in fights (that don't involve a gun; can't help you there) it may just save your life.

Josh claims no responsibility for death, injury or misfortune incurred while attempting these procedures.

Admittedly, snake bites can look pretty good on some people. Rather glad you didn't listen to them and get gauges, though...I've never cared for them at all.

I don't really mind body modifications, in small amounts. A piercing here or there is alright, same with tattoos, but they should hold some meaning.

I don't really like makeup at all, but I don't mind others using it. Just so long as they don't insist on doing mine for me...

Also, nice suggestions, Josh. I do hope nobody is ever foolish enough to try them. x.x

I plan on getting Tattoos everywhere. And as the NPC character in Skin Tyte "Gaia"

I do agree with that : ) "I wanna have 2 full sleeves of tattoos >.<"

My real suggestion to those who like body mod:
If you're going to do something than don't be a p***y. Do it to the extreme or don't do it. If you aren't yet a monster then you're not done yet.

In my opinion, that's too much. Well, on a girl, not to sound sexist or anything sweatdrop
I just think that sleeves look good on guys but not girls >.>

And Josh, those are rather interesting...but way painful and lethal. I think I'll stick with snake bites.. xp

Well, sure. If you want to half-a** it and be just like the hundreds of thousands of others that have them. No one has my treatments.

Well, Josh, those are most certainly... interesting ideas. A bit more than some (like the Cat Man and the Lizard Man), and significantly more dangerous. They would most certainly be interesting to see, though.

Personally, I'm a bit in the middle, I suppose. I think it should either be done "tastefully" or, as Josh put it, all out. I think the two examples that I listed above are pretty good examples of "all-out." The cat man has piercings above his lip for "whiskers", had his ears pointed to be more "cat-like" and has most of his body tattooed to look like a tiger. The lizard man, on the other hand, has his body tattooed in green scales, has a bar piercing (gauged, I believe) in his nose, split his tongue, and is, I found out some years after first seeing him, a sword swallower (and yes, I'm aware that that has nothing to do with body mods). I'm not sure what else they've done to their bodies, but they're great examples of something more original being done to their body, even if it is just to look more like an animal (or lizard).

I don't mind piercings in general, provided that there aren't too many in one place and they don't disfigure the body much. Honestly, I think getting a piercing gauged looks decent on some people and horrid on other, but as a rule of thumb, I find it better not to get them.

I strongly agree with Torzeh on tattoos, though. If you're going to get one (or several), then it should bear a great deal of meaning to you rather than something that you think "looks cool." I believe that if you are going to put something permanent on your body like that, then you should know what it symbolizes and agree with it.

Personally, though, I have done nothing to my body. I have no piercings and no tattoos, though I do keep thinking about getting a tattoo or two sometime. However, if I do get one, I fully intend to look for one of the best tattoo artists that I can find (and afford).
