Warmth. It was one could feel in such a tight space, it did not help that the small wolf wasn't the only one in the burrow. A flare of his assured him that he was safe and not alone, the earthy scent of his male was there. Knowing that, the azure wolf nuzzled himself closer to the larger male. The white light must be up by now; the sounds of the birds made that clear and even the drips of morning dew confirmed that it was still early.
Good... five more moments
The burrow was one that he had stumbled upon. Being a vagabond and on his own for much of his life, it was natural for him to find places to shelter himself. With some effort, he can make room for another such as his Alpha. It was an old badger den, the beast must have left a long time ago as the shelter was worn and broken, almost exposed. However, it was not what he needed. He recalled the other day the two were wandering when the dark light raised into the sky. Needing shelter, he bounded to a familiar structure and started on pawing out dirt.
Ehrek's memories were slipping, he forgot where he was, what he was doing, or why he was doing. It was Deimos, it was his what, why, and where, it didn't matter what it was, as long as Deimos was involved, so was he.
A wiggle of his nose and a muffled sneeze shot his head up into the base of the tree they were sheltered under. "Umf."

Deimos drifted somewhere between sleep and wakefulness, his protective instincts never letting him truly relax. His mate had found a den for the night after they had wandered from Kek and Therin, leaving the two . . . lovebirds? to themselves, and it was warm and cozy, if a little cramped for the big male and his smaller mate.
A soft sneeze brought him truly awake, and he blinked his eyes open, nuzzling Ehrek's neck. He was wrapped around his blue male protectively, almost possessively. Dirt dribbled from the ceiling from Ehrek's collision with it, and Deimos had an intense desire to get out of the little hole they had crawled into.
"G'mornin'," the alpha, or rather former alpha, murmured before licking Ehrek's ear. "Next time find a bigger hole in the dirt, love."

(( Kek and Therin aren't exactly official as far as I know. ))
Ehrek squeezed himself from his mate and outside to the open, shaking his charcoal fur of the dirt and anything else that managed to cake into him during the night. Oh how the open air felt so fresh and the ability to actually move was refreshing as well. However, Ehrek did miss the warmth of his mate.
Smiling, the young wolf fell to his paws, kicking out each leg, pushing his forepaws deep into the dirt and pushing his back into his body. Oh how it felt! Wagging, Ehrek looked to the sky and the area around them, collecting the information and surroundings. That was the reason they came out here, right?
"Hey, I worked hard to make it bigger," he chuckled as he dipped his head inside again. "Why don't you find a place for us next time that doesn't involve sleeping in the open." He chuckled as he licked his mate lovingly.

((Either way, Deimos isn't dumb and he has a good nose ;P he's caught Therin's scent))
"But I like the open," the big male responded as he escaped the badger den, stretching his cramped limbs much as Ehrek had stretched his. "Laying with you beneath the stars is my favorite passtime," he said playfully, his body suddenly full of energy as he did a stiff legged deer hop to Ehrek and bowled the smaller wolf over onto his back.
Deimos stood over his mate, looking down at him with love in his ice blue eyes. "I'll find the next one," he murmured, a teasing tone to his deep voice as he leaned down to lick Ehrek's cheek.
It was moments like these that kept the feeling of regret at losing most of the Einsame pack members on their trip at bay, and he relished the chance to make his Northern Lights all twitterpated.
But these moments rarely lasted these days, and his powerful nose caught a scent on the soft, early morning breeze. Lifting his massive head, he scented the air, drawing it deep into his lungs.
Another wolf was near. Very near, and Deimos realized his distraction of a mate had let the alpha's guard slip enough for the wolf to come close enough to hear them, if not see them outright. The thick, spiked fur on his neck bristled even more, and a low, dangerous growl slipped from his maw.
Wariness had kept them alive so far, even if foolishness at listening to the old moon patterned krone had separated them from his nieces. These woods held dangerous wolves, and his mate and him were vulnerable.
"I know you're there . . . Show yourself before I have to find you myself," he growled, his icy eyes scanning the forest around him as he made a slow turn, taking in everything.

As soon as Deimos' hackles rose and that rumbling growl boomed within his chest, Ehrek's ears quickly perked up and golden eyes took passes of the surroundings. As he slowly backed up to his feet, he kept his back to Deimos just as he watched his. The situation quickly turned from a happy morning to a tense suspense.
Ehrek's smaller body was a farce to what he was capable of. Like his mate, he is an incredible wolf who can easily defend itself and, though his offensive is weak, he is also quick due to his size.
Giving his own warnings, he made it quite sure that neither of them liked this new scent that was in the air. How foolish they were to allow a stranger into their vicinity without noticing. Cursing his own playfulness, he backed up closer to his Alpha before barking out.
"You are outnumbered two to one, either come out now or we'll hunt you down," he warned, shooting glances every which way trying to catch even the smallest glimpses of this intruder. "And you won't out run us."

The morning sun was warm as it speckled the ground through the trees, hitting Phrixos' back intermittenly. He enjoyed the morning, for the sounds of the forest coming to life, and the cool fingers of night still dampening the ground as the new sun fought to take back the world.
The young male was three days from home, but he didn't know exactly how far that was. He had been traveling at an ease pace, the gentle lope all wolves could hold for hours and hours, stopping only to sleep at night. He wasn't in any hurry to leave, and in fact, he was already homesick. But his young ego and steel hard resolve kept him from turning back, or even looking over his shoulder.
Phrixos wanted adventure. He wanted to see the world, and even though the war that had erupted over his packlands just after he and his littermates came into the world was enough to keep his father and grandfather from wanting anymore action, Phrixos needed it.
And so...he had left. Without really saying anything. Which might come back to bite him in the long run.
He was readying himself for his mile eating lope, when a sound caught his attention, making his ears flicker atop his head as he tried to pinpoint where the...voices? were coming from. Instinctively moving into a crouch, the young male, big already with paws larger then they by rights should be, crept forward as he listened to a softly murmured exchange of words.
And then suddenly, past a huge, sprawling fern, Phrixos saw them. Two wolves, the huge one half standing over the other, smaller wolf. The adolescent at first thought it was a warm exchange between male and female, until he noticed with a start that both were male.
The bigger male was striking in fur color, and something about him made Phrixos blink. It was the colors, but he couldn't quite place why they niggled at him.
Until the big male lifted his head and Phrixos nearly locked gazes with a pair of chillingly ice blue eyes, startling him. The big male hadn't seen him yet, but his youth had given away his scent, as he was upwind.
Cursing his folly, he crouched even lower, trying to blend with the shadows and ferns surrounding him, wondering why his great grandmother's eyes looked at him from the face of a stranger. Coupled with his immense size, nearly rivaling his grandfather . . .
Could this wolf be . . . family?

He tilted his head enough just to catch Deimos from the corner of his eye just as he had lifted his head to stare out into the brush. Was something there? Ehrek gave a huff as he turned himself about, confident that his mate had found the stranger that was in their midst.
"Deimos," he whispered as he came to the larger male's flank. Looking in his mate's direction, he saw nothing out of place or did he sense any type of movement. He kept his ears open and no breath or heartbeat was audible. Yet. This male's scent saturated the area. "He's not smart if he's gonna hide upwind, huh?"
The young wolf stepped forward toward the general direction of the stranger, lowering his head, hackles raised.
"What do you think we should do?" Ehrek asked, flicking his tail in slight irritation.

"No, he isn't very smart. Or he's young," the big male added, straining his exquisite sense of hearing for the slightest sound . . . right . . . there! The rustle of a fern against fur had him lunging with a speed that shouldn't have come from a wolf his size. Deimos was on the other wolf in an instant, jumping behind him and using his bulk to push the wolf into the open little clearing.
The alpha blinked, head cocking to one side as he took in the youngster, for young he was, just barely out of puphood. A gangly limbed teen with huge paws, almost as big as Ehrek already even for his youth.
"Explain yourself, because from where I stand, you are a little creeper that likes watching other wolves do stuff he shouldn't see."
Phrixos had an instant before the big male saw him, and he tried to move but Deimos, he had heard him called, was so fast! The huge male knocked him into the clearing and Phrixos wanted to cower and show his belly in submission, but his pride wouldn't let him. He was no omega, no pushover, especially not to two loners on the edge of his pack's territory.
"I'm not a creeper!" he growled, his youthful voice rich with possibilities. It would be a heartrendingly handsome voice when he grew a bit older. "You are the ones fornicating in the open where everyone can see you!" he shot back, his lime green mohawk in disarray as he got to his feet, keeping his head beneath the level of the two males, but not debasing himself like an omega would.

"Fornicating?" Ehrek tilted his head with a soft mew, quizzically staring at the young wolf. He was so young! His body was thin, even his legs were thin compared to the large paws he walked upon. Must have been just out of puphood and yet he is out wandering around on his own. "We weren't... 'fornicating', we were being playful."
When they were alone, Ehrek is always playful, getting into the bow, baggering on Deimos, but he was always serious when he needed to be. Being only a season behind his mate, it was always awkward to see and meet other wolves that dwarfed him in size much like Kekarn. Here this teen wolf was, almost his size and he had another season to go and he'd likely reach Deimos' height.
If he was lucky.
"What is a pup doing out here on its own? Doesn't look like the sitters are doing their jobs if this one got away," Ehrek spoke standing tall over this male, looking to Deimos. "Especially if he fails to hide himself properly."
The charcoal male flicked his tail. "And who would have thought such a young wolf could be such a perve... spying on us like that."

Phrixos bristled, and stood taller. "I'm not a pup," he growled, hoping they didn't notice how huge and awkward his paws were. "And being playful? Ok, yeah. Looked like playful was about to fall into step two. What is up with that. You're both dudes," he said, his lip curling slightly. "AND I WASN'T SPYING!"
Throwing an amused glance at Ehrek, Deimos circled the oddly colored male, taking in his painfully obvious youth. Ehrek was right...barely out of the den. "Why aren't you at home, beating on some siblings?" he questioned, wondering if the kid was an orphan.
Like he had been.
"Because I don't want to be there anymore. It's boring," he murmured, dropping his eyes and scuffing the ground with a paw.

Ah, so he has family. Ehrek shook his head as he looked up at Deimos.
"How blind is he to..." He sighed, shaking his head. Neither Deimos nor he had a family like this young one did. Truth be told, Deimos' past wasn't entirely clear to him just knowing that he was orphaned just like he was. Ehrek lost his own family around about this male's age. "You have family that is here to take care of you and teach you, yet you spite them because you're bored?" He questioned with a c**k brow.
"You are not only young, but quite stupid."
Ehrek sighed. "What is your name anwyay, Pup?" he inquired, exaggerating the nickname for the stranger.

Phrixos growled at Ehrek belligerently, glaring like a true angry teen. "I'm not spiting them, stranger. Don't think you know what's going on, because you don't. I love my family," he snapped, looking at Deimos again, eye to eye. Yep, those were his great grandmother Dione's eyes.
"Who are you?" he asked Deimos, ignoring Ehrek.
The big alpha watched the exchange between his mate and this youngster, and gave Ehrek a dry look. When Phrixos asked who he was, Deimos blinked.
"I am Deimos, alpha of Einsame Lykos, son of Bia and Ares. And you are?" he questioned back, grinning at the look on Phrixos' face.
"I...I'm Phrixos, of Acropolis. Son of Tawariel and Ciirsyn Kiion, grandson to alpha Hephaestus, who is...was...your father's brother..."

"Ehrek, beta of Einsame Lykos, son of Kojak and Duburi." Ehrek added.
He looked to his mate, receiving the dry look that made him falter a bit, his ears falling to his head a bit. Perhaps he was a bit out of line. Then again, this male doesn't seem to like him that much, considering what he has been badgering him about, perhaps it was best if he let Deimos handle it. After all, he was the Alpha and he knew how to handle this sort of thing.
Leaning up to Deimos he whispered, "You should take care of this. He seems more interested in you anyway."

Deimos sat heavily on his haunches, stunned at the young male's words. For so long, he had thought his father's side of the family had either been non-existent, or beyond his reach. And here...here sat his cousin. Family.
Suddenly he desperately missed Phobos, but pushing that pain aside, he leapt to his feet again and loomed over Phrixos, his expression one of pained excitement.
"Can you take me to them? Your...our...family?"
There was such hope in the big male's voice that Phrixos couldn't say no. He wondered what the story was behind Deimos, but he remembered his father telling him that the entire pack had thought Ares was dead, so long ago. To find a son of his grandfather's brother...
"Yeah, alright. I'll take you to the border at least."

Nodding, Deimos turned to his mate and nuzzled him affectionately, seeing Ehrek's mood in his body language. "Don't worry, my love. I will not leave you, even for family," he murmured as he nibbled Ehrek's ear. Then he turned to Phrixos with a nod.
"Just show us to the border. We have two pack members yet in the forest, and I would like to get back to them after you show us.
Shrugging, Phrixos started in the direction of his packlands at a fast, ground eat lope.

As Phrixos led them to the Acropolis' border, Deimos' words did not help much. He knew Deimos wouldn't leave him, but still it was a possibility. After all, what male in the family would suit him? They're all family! It must have been taboo or something for him to fall for a family member. Then again, their own relationship was a bit of a taboo.
"It isn't my worry that you'll leave me, Deimos," he whispered. It was his fear that this family will not accept the likes of him. He was a wolf from the snow bitten north, some packs known for their cold hearts and savage nature and their brutish behaviors. Ehrek was lucky to escape that upbringing when his pack was wiped out.
"I can get Kekarn and our stalker if you like, I mean, you haven't seen any family for a long time and all... you know..."

Deimos looked at Ehrek, wondering why his mate was so worried. He stopped running, noticing Phrixos do the same some distance away.
"You are my family more then they are, Ehrek. Do you not realize that? If the don't accept the 4 of us, then we won't stay."
Looking his mate in the eyes, Deimos smiled. "All will be well, my love. If you want to get our friends, you can."

Ehrek gave a soft smile nuzzling against his mate.
"I will get them once we get to the border, at least then I'll know how to get back when I do go get them," the blue wolf replied. Deimos' words did ease him a bit, but to deny his mate of the family he had lost ... was it wrong? It was something to pick at later, but now wasn't exactly for that. He was with his mate, he has two friends left, and they were on their way to another pack.
"Deimos, do you think the girls will be there? They have to be somewhere and we haven't found any traces. At the very least, they might be able to give us some information of the three."

"Girls?" Phrixos questioned, then laid his ears back at the evidence of his eavesdropping. "Two girls, sisters, are at my home now. There were three, but the one left shortly after fight was over, or so my dad told me."
Deimos hummed as he ran, worried by Phrixos' words. Two were there, but where had the third gone? And which of the sisters was it? He had an idea of who it was, and it worried him even more.
"I guess that answers that," he mumbled, and after that, the three lapsed into silence as they ran.
~~~~~
Some hours later, after a run that definitely outpaced his leisurely lope from before, they arrived at the edge of Acropolis' lands, his grandfather's scent filling his nose at the edge of the border.
"Head southeast from here, and you'll find the den," Phrixos said with a mildly pained expression, wanting to be gone. The truth was...he hadn't told anyone he was leaving, and didn't want to be caught now and berated in front of these strangers. Family, it seemed, but strangers non-the-less.
"Well, I gotta go. Good luck," he said hurriedly, already moving back in the direction they came.
"Thank you!" Deimos called out just as the youngster's tail vanished in the underbrush. The big male turned to Ehrek, smiling softly. "I doubt he'll take the same route as before, knowing you're going back."
Sighing, Deimos nuzzled Ehrek. "Are you sure about this? We can both go meet them, and then get our comrades together."
"Well, I gotta go. Good luck," he said hurriedly, already moving back in the direction they came.
"Thank you!" Deimos called out just as the youngster's tail vanished in the underbrush. The big male turned to Ehrek, smiling softly. "I doubt he'll take the same route as before, knowing you're going back."
Sighing, Deimos nuzzled Ehrek. "Are you sure about this? We can both go meet them, and then get our comrades together."
PhiferWolf
Ehrek mimicked his mate's response, turning to watch the young one disappear into the foliage. Hopefully he realizes that he'll need his family and come back. A lone wolf is as good as a dead one just as he would have been if it weren't for the wolves from his past. He smiled looking at Deimos, especially this one.
"Whatever you choose to do, Sir," he replied with a slight grin, raising his tail to the beta position before cocking his head to the south east. "You are my superior and I fill follow you wherever you go and back you up with whatever pea-brained ideas you come up with."
Ashtiel Pantheres
Deimos looked pained, warring with his personal desire to meet his family, and his alpha duties to keep what remained of his pack together.
His alpha instincts won, but he didn't give up meeting his family.
"Ehrek . . . I need to meet them. But we can't leave -our- family out there, with no word of where we went. I can't let them think we abandoned them."
"That is probably the best idea you've said all day," He joked as he nudged his mate before turning tail to head back to the others that remained of the Einsame. How they have all separated was hard to imagine, but they were a band of vagabond who traveled and have lived free. Perhaps those who got separated are better off.
There was no point of thinking poorly of them.
"Come on, big guy, lets see if your speed can match mine!" Ehrek challenged as he sprinted off. Still, thoughts lingered in his mind for him to chew on as they ran. However, one step at a time and everything will be fine.
