I thought it would be cool if we could all come here after our sunday church servise and post here what we learned.

I know some of you may not go to church maybe because you just moved, or there arn't any good ones around ect. but it would be good to come here any ways so you can still learn about christ.

I usually don't go to church simply because I have so many different views form the norm that i'll probably end up in an arguement.

I went to church today, Did not learn a single thing. Everything that they talked about was exactly what i had found out on my own time and then some.

my pastor has been preaching on this subject for the past two sundays. here's my notes:
Quote:
01-08-2006
1 Peter 2:9-10

We are:
a chosen generation
a royal priesthood
a holy nation
a special people

What kind of life are you going to live in 2006? Are you going to live a common life or an uncommon life? Don't lower your standards and be common to be "accepted"! the world wants to MAKE you common. but we're not OF the world. Keep your uniqueness! When you show your uniqueness and your specialness it's an attractive quality. You shouldn't want to be like everyone else... DON'T COMPROMISE! You won't be as special anymore and therefore not as attractive. Just like McDonald's.... just keep on drivin' there'll be another one down the road. How LONG are we going to deal with the common before we become uncommon? BUT don't walk around thinking you're better than everyone.... walking around with your Bible smacking people on the head "YOU NEED JESUS! YOU NEED JESUS!" just don't lower your standards.

I'm back! I thought the teaching was good today

God doesn't want us to have true pain and suffering which is being away from him in hell so he lets us have little pain and suffering here on earth while following him because that's nothing compared to suffering in hell.

he talked about a guy who was in a blizzard lost and looking for his camp. he could only see around a foot in front on him eventually he just gave up. after a little while he heard a little puppy and so he cralled to fine where it was and found a little puppy dying in the snow just like he was. he didn't want the poor little puppy to die so it stayed up all night rubbing it to keep it warm and that kept him alive long enough for the search team to come and find him all because he was trying to keep the little puppy alive.

so the lesson here is sometimes when you help other people you can inadvertantly (sp?) help yourself.

Hey do you mind if I use a thread like this in my guild? Things are a little slow right now. sweatdrop But anyway, I took notes in church this morning, and I'll share what was said by my pastor.

Our church is undergoing the process of electing elders in our church for the first time. The title of the sermon was "Elders: Who and What" and he talked about what the qualities of an elder should be.

First he should a clip from the movie "Martin Luther" where this one bishop was telling people that they could save their loved ones by paying the church and he basically scared them into doing it. There was this one mother who had a crippled child, and the bishop said "Would you like to save your crippled girl? Then pay the church!" or something like that. So she ended up doing it and she honestly believed she had saved her daughter. Then she showed her certificate to martin luther with and excited face. Martin looked at it and was outraged. He said "This is only paper. You should trust in God's love for your salvation." He started walking away with a long face and was determined to do something about this. He wrote this big list of 95 thesis against the granting of indulgences, which was what the bishop was doing, and nailed it to a church's door. It showed a bunch of people reading it, and when the bishop read it he got very angry and then the clipped stopped.

These are my notes (with the bible verses included):

1.) Elder as a Shepherd (1 Peter 5:1-3)
a.) lead or guide to life-giving nourshiment
b.) Tend and care for the sick and wounded

2.) Elder as Protector or Guardian (Acts 20:27-32)
a.) Intercept those seeking to harm the Church
b.) Interced on behalf of the Church
c.) Interpose themselves between the church and threats or dangers

3.) Elder as Biblically-oriented Teacher (Titus 1:5-9)
a.) Think from a biblical perspective
b.) Able to teach (and teachable himself)
c.) Concerned with how the church views and obeys the scripture
d.) Prays Scripture (how he talks, forms words and sentances is all from saturation of the Word)

4.) Elder as a Christ-Like Example (;1 Peter 5:3, 1 Timothy 3:1-7)
a.) Characteristics of Elder from Scripture (remember Titus 1:5-9)

5.) Materialism as an Example (let's say someone is in trouble with credit card debt)
a.) A Shepherd (would be concerned about his materialstic heart)
b.) Guardian (would pray and talk to him about it, and pray for the church)
c.) Teacher (talk with him for weeks to help him get out of the credit card debt)
d.) Model (Not being a hypocrite and doing what he's teaching to help people do it too.)

Yeah that's it. If your pastor or elder doesn't follow this criteria....you might want to change churches or talk to someone (even the pastor or elder) about how it could change. I know this might not be extremely important.....but also if you want to be an elder or a pastor or anything like that, you should think about these things too. Well, thanks for reading this (it was kinda long, I know sweatdrop )

Thats a pretty good message, i think i'll try to remember that 1, we often forget, were not really part of this world.

For ex. I and a couple of friends were watching a show called "Fabulous life of celebrities", and saw guys who basically are meant to have "Everything", money, girls/ guys, famous, million acre houses (slight exageration) etc etc, and my friends..though normally cooler razz , were like, Man i wish i had that. Then i started to think a bit when a thought came to me and reminded me that, hold on...they dont have the most important thing, Jesus, My father (God) has everything especially stuff money cant buy, eg peace, happiness, true satisfaction..that feeling you get when you worship God from your heart with other christians knowing that yes, i do have everything. And also i remembered that wait a sec,...Im not even of this world, just a stranger, why should i conform to what other people want and say you have to have or do, when my father gives all, be it love, grace, blessing,..especially Love. So then i started to think, what kinda life would i live even though i gained the whole world, yet lost my soul, this life is like what a tiny while, while eternity, Hheaven is like forever,..and hell.

So by this i started to realise that hey, its time to concentrate on whats important.

Wow, cant belief i typed this much..well this is my first post ^ ^
Hope this means something to someone.
