The shops, the sand, the surf. Yeah, the boardwalk was the perfect place for people watcher Bovidae Harrington.
The newly grown Pride/Diligence spawn decided to go here as a present to himself for such another lovely growth, and as a congrats on getting that guidance counseling job at the school for children with accelerated growths. Sadly, even after a few days at the facility, Bovi could tell that the school was not going to last very long, so he was working on backup plans, but not right now, now was vacation time. It was a good thing his mother had gained the trust of Cassidy, or he wouldn't have been able to get out here by himself.
He was currently at the locally owned salt water taffy place that all board walks seemed to have. He always enjoyed the chewy sweet treat, and he hadn't had it in a while, so he'd thought he'd treat himself.

Phoebe stepped carefully along the boardwalk, trying not to catch her toenails in the cracks between the boards and fall down. In one hand she held an ice cream cone full of blue birthday cake ice cream, which dripped down her hand even as she licked at it. It was delicious and almost took her mind off of the humiliating fact that she still had an annoying bandage over her right eye, and likely would for some time to come.
"I wonder where J-Mama and Kupo went," she murmured to herself between licks. Somewhere during the trip to the boardwalk, she'd lost sight of her mother and brother - she'd never even noticed Kendra after they'd gotten out of the cab that had brought them here. The teenager was probably off somewhere doing icky things like smoking again.
As she licked her ice cream, she caught sight of a shop that looked like it sold many pretty candies and stepped up to it, peering at the brightly-colored candies as she licked her ice cream cone with one hand and fingered a five-dollar bill in her other. Maybe J-Mama wouldn't mind if she spent it here... those candies looked so pretty; they had to taste just as good!

It was never really that hard to spot a child from the labs, and the girl that had caught his attention was no exception. He purchased his sweets and decided to take a seat near by. With his newest growth came new rules. It was considered 'creepy' to approach smaller children in his age group, especially when you were male and baring candy. The last thing he wanted was the child's parent to walk in at a bad place and time and think he was trying to persuade her to come with him or something. Parent's can be frightening when they think something bad is going to happen to their child.

Phee looked at the candy in the store for a long moment, before taking another lick of her ice cream cone and turning away. She didn't really need any more sweets right now, not when it meant spending her allowance. Her ice cream was more than enough! Humming to herself, she skipped over to a bench and sat down, peeking at the man sitting next to her and licking her ice cream for a long moment before blinking and looking at him again. "Hello," she said, smiling at the stranger. "You look kinda like me! Are you one of my big siblings from the lab-place?"

Bovi chuckled at the girl when she mentally decided that she did not need candy right now. He was proud of her resolve, and was quite happy that she chose to sit down next to him, hoping for a little conversation.
"Perhaps," he said. "I am from the Seven of Seven labs, if those are the labs you are speaking of. My name is Bovidae, but everyone calls me Bovi. I am a Pride Diligence mix, in case you were wondering." He smiled and held out his hand in an offering for a handshake.

Phoebe giggled and licked her ice cream cone again, taking Bovi's hand in her own free one. "That makes you my older half-brother! I'm from the labs too, but I only remember living with J-Mama, really," she said conversationally, smiling happily. "My DNA Daddy's the pride demon, too~! But my DNA Mama is the kindness lady - I met a nice lady the other day who's my kindness-sister!" She giggled again, taking another long lick of her blue ice cream, and closed her left eye to enjoy the feel of the sun on her face for a moment. "Mmm... it's nice today!"

"Seems that way," Bovi said with a nod. "I was supposed to meet the pride demon when I was a bit younger, but when I called to arrange a meeting they said that I didn't need to. Sad really, I really wanted to meet him and all..." he said with a sigh.
"I don't remember much about living in the labs either. I don't think I was there very long..." he mused, now slightly curious as to what happened when he was first born. But it made little difference to him now, just an odd passing thought.
"It is a very nice day today. A good day to just sit back and watch what happens,"

Phoebe reached a free hand over and patted her elder half-brother on the shoulder. "Don't be sad, big brother! If I get to meet our Dad then I'll be sure and mention you to him," she said, absolutely certain somehow that she would get to meet him someday, that she would be able to keep her self-made promise.
"Uh-huh, it is a nice day. J-Mama and Kupo are around here somewhere - oh, sorry, that's what I call my mom, and Kupo's my little brother. He's not from the labs though, he's from somewhere else."

"I have a brother not from the Labs either, or at least not from the labs where we're from. They treat the DNA donors a lot nicer there too." He then smiled and patted the girl on the head. "Thanks, I'd like it if you did that."
Bovi looked around for a few moments before looking at the small child again. "So what do you like to do..." He paused. The girl never told him her name.

"Phoebe, that's my name - Phoebe. But you can call me Phee if you want," she said cheerfully, taking another lick of her melting ice cream. "And, well, I like to dance but since my eye's gone all weird I've been having trouble, but Miss Ebby said she'd help an' I believe her... I like reading too, once I got old enough to figure out that books are more fun read that torn up."
A sheepish blush accompanied this statement, as Phoebe let slip her horrible behavior as a toddler. "Oh! And I like dogs; I want a puppy but J-Mama says I have to earn it somehow... I don't realyl get it but at least she didn't say no, right?"

Bovi's ears perked up at that name, not Phoebe but the other one.
"Miss Ebby you say? Purple skin? Black hair? Big wings? Is this the same Ebby I'm thinking of?" he asked, though he already was certain it had to be. She was talking about a dance teacher here, and if he recalled correctly Ebony had been giving teaching a serious thought.
"Well, I can attempt to explain what your J-Mama means. I think she wants you to prove that you can take care of something else that will totally depend on you to feed it, walk it, and make sure it's safe. That way she knows that the dog in question won't get hurt or be a bother..."

Phoebe nodded, finishing off the last of her ice cream cone as she said, "Uh-huh! That's her!" Pausing for a moment, an interesting thought crossed the littler spawn's mind, and she grinned in an almost... evil fashion. "She's your giiiiiirl~friend isn't she?" the pinkette asked, bursting into semi-maniacal giggles at the thought. Her half-brother and her half-sister, dating each other - they weren't related but something about it amused Phee on a level the child really couldn't explain. Not that she thought the idea was a bad thing - quite the contrary, actually!
At the mention of the dog, Phoebe's giggles trailed away and she kicked her feet a bit as she thought. "I suppose that makes sense... but I take care of my little brother a lot, does that count towards earning my puppy? 'Cause I saw the cutest puppy at the pet store the other day, it was all yellow and so fluffy that I just wanted to bring it home right then!" She didn't mention that she had gone to the pet store alone, after sneaking out of the store yet again - those were unnecessary details compared to the cuteness of the puppy she'd seen, after all!
