It wasn't anything spectacular. It wasn't anything grand. It wasn't even anything weathered and old. To some it looked like a tiny community college but that was where they were wrong. The small compound on the western side of the Denia Island was actually a fully accredited university. It wasn't anything comparable to the universities in Durem, Barton, or Aekea. There was no medical school but it offered a biology major with a push towards medicine. There was no research facilities but it offered masters' degrees in psychology and other behavioral sciences. And while Aekea Technical Institute was considered the top place on Gaia for engineering degrees tiny little Porta Denia University offered a very good and varied engineering program. In fact, engineering geared towards working with airships was one of the foundations the university was built upon
Like any other university on Gaia Porta Denia University buzzed with the sights, sounds, and smells of students going about their day. Music played over GO Players and Zony MP3s as students sat out on the lawn and on picnic tables studying for their next exam. There was the occasional tossing of a Frisbee between students and outside the science building the Engineering department in conjunction with the Botany students was holding its annual model airship contest.
The model airship contest was something the engineering and botany students looked forward to all year long. Engineering students paired up with a botany student and a casimir sapling to create a working model airship. The team that could create the best working airship was awarded the top prize, a gold plated trophy, a five thousand gold scholarship, and two five hundred gold certificates for dinner at Fong's Noodle Palace and Diner. The model airship contest was not only a highlight for the university but also a highlight for the town.
Like the annual regatta people looked forward to the model airship contest. Each year the student contest drew a crowd of interested townspeople, science enthusiasts, model making enthusiasts, and visiting crews of airships to the port town. People looked forward to seeing what new and innovative airship designs the engineering and botany students would come up with. Science drove the airship models but it was imagination and creativity that made them amazing. And, on the day of the model airship contest a future airship engineer just might be spotted by an airship captain and his crew.

Meushi straighten and then stretched as she stood up from her flight seat. 'That was a good flight!' "AH, good old PDU!" She pointed to the building in front of her ship. SHe turned and looked for Miana. Everything had been shifted around from the flight. She giggled. "You still with me Mi-Mi?"

Miana made a couple of small groaning noises and pushed one of the heavier crates away from him, using the wall he was up against as leverage. He staggered into a standing position.
"I think you should invest in some seat belts.... or at least something to secure your cargo." He said as he eyed some of the other crates that were scattered about haphazardly, more than one of them marked fragile.
Miana popped his neck and stretched as he walked back towards the front of the ship idly.

Pulling up along side Meushi's ship, the dawn's edge closed down most of her thrust and pulled in the foils. Pulling the holographic image of a headset from out of thin air, her captain placed it next to his ear and made a call.
"Pie in the Sky Cafe, this is Dawn's Edge, please respond."

Meushi only laughed and then smacked Miana's arm as he neared her. "Don't be such a sissy! That was fun!" She turned then and looked at the building in front of them. "They're gonna have this huge contest pretty soon so there's alot of engineer students here right now. That can be a big help right! RIght!" She nodded and then looked at Miana again. "Hey, what brought you here anyway? I mean to Port Denia. You don't LOOK like the type to work."

There was nothing at first until a odd crack sound filled the headphones. "Yeah who is it?" "Is it my boyfriend?" "As if you had a boyfriend." "Shut up!!" "Wait who has a boyfriend?" "HA HA!!" "Oh I HATE YOU!" "Is someone on the phone?" "OH crap!" "Hello?" the voices of girls filled the ship.

"Mostly.... vacation." Miana said evasively. Truth was he didn't really have anywhere to go or anything to do. And when he friend told him the scooter could fly he thought he might as well go touring the airship culture.
He got out of the ship and looked at the University. It didn't look like anything special, he'd been to several landside that looked the same. But students were generally smart, and if this school specified in airship mechanics then surely someone here would have the right parts. And might offer free service since they were still a student.

"Vacation uh...." She rolled her eyes. "Sounds like you're a player to me..." She mumbled under her breath. She turned to walk near the back of her ship. After a moment she was on the top deck looking at her tree. She smiled at it as she placed one of her hands on the trunk. "Ok, be back soon. I gotta help this guy out. He's gotta a baby tree to take care too too. You look out for it while we go look for some help to fix his crap-mobile." She grinned at the tree and then turned to hop off the ship. "Ok...let's get started!! Where do ya wanna go first Mi-Mi?"

"Well, I dunno that other people would call it that... but that's the best word for it. 'Do your traveling when you're young' a friend of mine always used to say. So I'm just taking his advice because I can." Miana explained a bit.
He watched her as she climbed up her ship and appeared to be talking to her tree, though he couldn't catch what she was saying. He understood the connection some pilots had with their tress. His tree was a bit antisocial as far as that went. He popped off the casing of the scooter every now and again to give it sunlight and let it soak up water without water logging the rest of the scooter, but all in all it seemed to really like it's little cage.
More than once he'd felt guilty about keeping a living plant in such conditions, but it seemed to thrive in them. He wondered frequently if it had originated in a hot and humid cave.
"I'd say any sort of classes that work on the inner workings of a ship who aren't botanists should do the trick." He answered Meushi as she hopped down off her ship. "It really shouldn't be that difficult to find something like that."

Meushi rubbed her chin in thought. "Well it sounds like a plan." She nodded and then smacked Miana's back. "OK! Let's go look for a class room!!" She began to walk off but stopped. "Oh HEY! Where's Fly-boy?" She looked around and then noticed Fylk's ship next to her's. 'How'd the heck did I miss that?' "OYE!! You coming out anytime soooooooon?" She shouted at the ship. She looked at Miana. "What's he doing? Making making out with his girlfriend or something?"

Fylk winced as his box was filled with the sudden, unmistakable, mind numbing chatter of under age girls. Tracing a symbol with is finger he cut the line and shook his head to try and get out the clutter. Thank the gods he was past having to deal with such creatures. Until he had his own daughter to deal with, but that was many years off yet.
"Okay, lets try this again." He formed a picture of the person he was trying to reach again. "This is the Dawn's Edge, do you read?"

Once more nothing until the small crack sound. "Did we just get hung up on!?" "HOW RUDE!!!" "Hang up on them!" "HA HA! That would show them!" "Wait guys, who are you talking too?" "I don't know..." "Have you asked?" The murmur of girls could be heard until a bored young man's voice was heard. "Who are you guys talking to?" "Someone RUDE!!" "I'm just about to ask. Hello? Is someone there? Can we help you?"

"Um, yes. I'm trying to reach the Pie in the Sky Cafe?" He wince again. this was getting frustrated. Maybe it would be easier to just project an image of himself on her bridge. But no, that was against the regs. And he had enough trouble the PA.

"You've reached it!" One of the voices spoke. There was a giggle from the girls and a sigh from on of the boys. "Is it a call in? Tell them we don't do that." "I'm sorry but we can't do call ins." "Oh give me that!" Another voice spoke. "Hello, this is The SKy in the Pie. What can we help you with?" "Party pooper..." "Ssssssh!"
