Name: Layla Age: 21 Gender: Female Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual Craft: Healer Rank: Journeyman
History: Layla was born and raised in Fort Hold. Her mother, a Journeyman Beasthealer, and her father, a Senior Journeyman Healer at the Hold, raised their four daughters and lone son with the love and adoration for the healing craft. She had worked as an unofficial apprentice, aiding her parents as they healed all types of beasts and humans alike, since the moment she could walk. Despite her love for the craft, she did not become officially apprenticed at Healer Hall until she was 10 years of age. There, Layla dove into her studies with a fervor that even her teachers were astonished at. With seven years of only theoretical experience in the field under her belt, and her new rank of Journeyman, Layla transfered to Telgar Hold to expand her horizons as a Healer and to have a chance to apply all the skills she had learned. Here, she worked mostly with animals who did not equate her young face with horrid skills, as so many of the human patients had done. She toiled in the Hold for four years, tending all manners of beasts, and loved every bit of her life. Every once in awhile, she was called upon to aid a human patient, but these instances were few and far in between. It was harder for her to relate to her human counterparts than it was to relate to her animal ones. Her curiosity and interest peaked by all the wonders that Weyrlife offered as she spied the great dragons fly overhead. It wasn't long before she asked for a transfer, and got accepted, into Telgar Weyr to work as a DragonHealer. She quickly packed her things and entered the new world of the Dragonriders.
Appearance: Standing at 5'7", Layla is of slender build. Lilthly muscled and olive-tanned, Layla is athletic and spends a lot of her time out of doors. She is often seen wearing her waist-length brunette hair in a single plait at the base of her neck, though her shorter bangs often escape the plait to fall over her dark hazel eyes. She dresses casually, in natural colors, preferring the calming cool hues like blues and greens, which often have helped ease the nerves of her patients - both animal and humans alike.
Personality: Layla is a strong, organized and rational thinker. Her tendencies to analyze every angle of a situation often caused her to be slower to act. However, every once in awhile, she would recall older, outdated remedies that may work better in certain situations than the current cures used by the Healers. Though her pace has improved over the years through experience during her observations of her Masters and other Journeymen and her personal training in her studies and classes, Layla does not function well in emergencies. For how can she tell which treatment will work best unless she went through all the scenarios in her head first? She takes her job very seriously, and studies constantly as her curiosity often leads her to new knowledge in old archives, medicines, herbs, etc. Her main focus is to her craft, often to the detriment of any other aspect of her life. Aside from the occasional dalliance, Layla does not see the need for an extended net of friends or acquaintances. She is friendly, involved, and caring towards her patients, but once they are no longer in her care, she often forgets about them as people and begin to label them only by their illnesses. They serve only as case studies in her ever-long quest for information.
Other: Holderbred, many of the customs and livelihood of the Weyrs will be new to her and skewed, as will her conceptions of morality.
I've read up on a lot of the information threads here and even some of the IC threads. If there is anything that I should add or change to help integrate my character in the world, please let me know. There hasn't been any big meta-updates since March, so I do not know if there is anything else I should know in order to maximize the...involvedness?...of my character. =) I'm hoping to make her a DragonHealer, eventually. I know there isn't a Hatching schedules now, but I didn't know how to move her to the Weyr otherwise.

Welcome to DRoP! We haven't had any major updates since March mostly since we're waiting on our line artist to finish up the adult lines for the Song clutch so the shop is definitely pretty slow at the moment. >: You're definitely welcome to play once Layla is accepted, but it's just kind of a forewarning. <3
Unfortunately, Journeyman candidates are currently barred from play (you can see what we have as barred under the Temporarily Restricted sticky in this forum). She's welcome to still be a Journeyman who transferred to HR so she can specialize in Dragonhealing, but she can't also be a candidate. Healer Journeyman should also be upwards of at least 20 years old, since most people would like an adult tending them rather than someone perceived as a child.
I'm not sure I understand this statement here: "Her ability to come up with cures or remedies to treat the longer illnesses helped the young woman through her apprentice years when her slowness to act in emergencies would have ended the careers of others."
As stated in our Crafts sticky, apprentice Healers very rarely are allowed to treat patients if ever, as most of their knowledge is purely theoretical. Not to mention Healercraft is one of the older Crafts in Pern and many of its Masters are very stuck in their ways. They were extremely hesitant to do operations on people, much less try out a remedy created by an apprentice. Even a journeywoman would be hard pressed to "make new discoveries" as you put it, especially in a place such as a Weyr. She's definitely welcome to be open-minded to alternate solutions to problems (and as such is always willing to try everything) but she shouldn't be always making new discoveries if you know what I mean.
Other than that she looks good to go! Telgar is the only Weyr right now with a Dragonhealer NPC so you're welcome to send her there instead if you like, but it's entirely up to you what you do with her. <3

Slow isn't bad, so long as there are lots of slow people still around. =) Rps have an easy way of going poofy. But the threads here are consistent, even in the lull that you guys are experiencing while you wait for the artists. And that's always promising. ^_~
I can take out the candidacy part from her application, no problem. I just needed a reason to get into the Weyr and was not sure of just journeying out for Dragonhealing was acceptable. But since it is, that would be just fine with me. ^_^ And I will up her age to match her rank.
Yea, i'm not sure what I meant by that line now either. I think I was trying to convey that she thought through things too much without taking action at once...so perhaps she can recall an older, "outdated" medicines to use than the more popular ones in current circulation? Or is that still too far fetched. Something so that her weakness was also a semi-boon. Meh. It's all a bit convoluted, I might just scrap it all out.
I'm not picky about which Weyr to join. If there's one that you think my character would do the most good plot wise, just let me know. We can throw her to the dragons, so to speak, and force her to learn the trade on her own in HR, or let her work under guidance at Telgar. =) I haven't read up on many of the one-on-one plots and only some of the larger ones (though I keep confusing all the names of everyone, so its all fuzzy still), so I'm still rushing to catch up so I'm not sure where the best story arch will be.
I'll look through the post and see what corrections I can make tonight. Let me know if there's anything else you want me to change.

EDIT: Ok, made some changes to the first post. Please let me know what you think and what other changes should be made. Thanks!

The only reason I suggested Telgar was because I play the NPCs at Telgar so you'd have actual RP you could do with a Dragonhealer. She'd still have guidance at HR (both of them do have lots of Dragonhealers because of the plague) there just wouldn't really be anyone there for you to RP her learning with. It's up to you though! <3

Lol. Yes, put that way, your way makes a lot more sense. ^_^
I'll change her info to Telgar instead of High Reaches, then. =)
