Hester timidly made her way across the lands. There were dens all around, and she didn't want to attract any unneeded attention. Being born into this pride, there was a safer bet that she wouldn't simply be snatched up by a male like a rogue lioness would be. But there was still a slim chance that one of the rougher, crueler pads would do something similar, even in the pride lands themselves.
She hoped that she made herself small enough to escape notice from everyone. Hester had heard some stories from once-rogue females about their encounters with the males of her pride. And the adolescent's imagination did the rest, effectively making her paranoid when going out anywhere by herself.
Which she was forced to do, at the moment, because she was dying of thirst and couldn't stand staying in the family den for another moment because of the heat. Although the shelter of the shade was cool, water was the best thing. Hester approached the watering hole with panting breaths, almost smiling in delirium at the cool water.

Obadias sighed to himself as he left the family den. He was soon to go on his coming of age quest, where he would leave the pride and find a banu of his own out in the rogue lands. It was an exciting time for any young Pesar, but Obadias was a tad reluctant. He was nervous of the quest, but he knew he had to do it, and he would do it well, so that he could return to the pride, and Parvana, much quicker. He sighed, again, a dull look on his face.
The day was warm, and, after a quick glance around for the telltale sign of blue, Obadias set off towards the closest body of water, simply to quench his thirst. He should have been practicing hunting, or talking to his elder brother Anwar, who he had planned to travel with on their quest, but he didn't feel like it at that moment.
A flash of a familiar colour by a watering hole caught Obadias' eye and he paused, squinting to try and see who it was. Ah! He remembered that pelt design. He hadn't spoken to her much, as he had always spent more time wiht his brother than his sisters.
"Hester!" Obadias called out, approaching her. He wondered what she was doing out on her own. He hadn't seen her do that much.

The call of her name almost caused Hester to have a heart attack; indeed, just as she was lowering her face to gulp deeply from the water pool, her brother had shouter her name and followed by running up closer to her.
"Ah, Obadias. Good morning," she greeted, lifting her tail a bit off the floor. She was safe with her family. Hester didn't need to shrink down into the smallest lioness she could be with her brother around. Even though he was leaving soon--she would wish him luck on his journey, she reminded herself.
"How are you today?"

Obadias gave a small smile at his sister. Usually, he had a rather blank expression on his face when he was out and about the pride, if only to uphold some type of reputation, but it was only his sister and family didn't need masks or reputations, at least not in Obadias' opinion.
"I am alright, Hester," he responded, coming to stand next to her by the water's edge. "And you?"
He tilted his head and glanced towards her. "I don't see you out and about too often; enjoying the sunshine?" The tiny smile returned.

"I'm doing well, thank you." Since he did usually have little or no expression on his face, it was a nice change to see her brother smiling, even if it was the tiniest of smiles. She agreed with his opinion that families should not show masks to each other, only to outsiders.
"The sunshine is warm, but revealing. What are you up to today?" she replied, knowing full well that he was probably preparing (or should be) for his journey soon.
And while he was gone, she would probably be given to another Pad. She pushed the thought away and refused to think about it.

"Revealing? I hadn't heard the sun spoken of like that before." He regretted not spending more time with his sisters, as he was very much a family man, but things simply hadn't worked out and he had clung to his brother rather than exploring his family group.
"I'm not sure," Obadias said honestly, frowning a little. "I should be practicing hunting, I would assume, but I can't quite summon the energy or will to do it." He wanted to be prepared for the quest, so that he could return as quickly as possible to the pride, but today simply didn't seem like a day that he should spend preparing.
He sighed a little and gave another small smile. "Do you think me lazy now, Hester?" He asked, only half joking.

"I just mean that it reveals everything and everyone that's out and about while the sun is up," she explained softly. Like her, for example. She'd much rather go and do everything she needed to at night when she had the protection of darkness but not a lot of prey roamed around at dark.
"If you're lazy, so am I." No, she was just scared, not lazy. "I should be preparing to leave Father and our family to join another Pad." Her tone was a bit blunt, but then again, how else would you say it? She hadn't encountered many males that had shown interest in her, but she knew that when she grew to a full adult they would be more prominent in her life until she was claimed.
"Where do you think you'll go, when you leave for your journey?" There was a lot of world, out there. As his sister it was only right for her to be concerned about him. And therefore, she hoped that after he left, he would return quickly.

Obadias nodded, understanding her reasoning of the sun now, but he was still surprised to think of it like that. He had never considered that before. To him, day time was a blessing, because he never seemed to sleep well at night, with his dreams plaguing him most nights.
He peered at his sister, when she spoke of leaving the family. "Are you not looking forward to a new pad, Sister?" He asked her calmly, not even a tiny speck of reprimand in his tone. If she was worried, she could speak easily with him. He knew of being worried, or afraid, and would not betray his sister by telling of her discomfort or discontent at the idea of a new pad.
"I am not sure yet," He explained, frowning a little. "Brother Anwar and I are traveling together, so at least I will not be alone out there, but we haven't discussed where we will go yet. I suppose we will just walk until we find someone to bring back." There was a tone of reluctance as he spoke of the journey. It was not that he didn't wish to go, just that he wished he could spend a little longer in the pride before he left but he knew he would need to leave soon.

Hester hesitated before answer his question. Was she looking forward to leaving her family? Yes, because that meant leaving her father behind. No, because that meant leaving her siblings and mother behind. She didn't know how well she could trust Obadias, though she needn't have worried.
"Yes," she began," and no," was the quick addition to her answer. "I will be sad to leave you and our siblings, though I know you will have your own families, Brother." Hester offered a small smile to him.
She was glad that Anwar was going with him, but knew what kind of sadness he felt. She did not wish to leave her family and their protective circle (well, except for her father). But she knew she would need to leave soon, too.

Obadias nodded, smiling at her a little. He knew how she felt, saddened but knowing how it must happen. "We will always be siblings though, Sister, and you know that I would welcome a visit from you, even if you have a Pad and I my own banu and families." He told her, quite honestly.
He didn't want to ignore his family just because he was starting one of his own. Sure, he would have Parvana and perhaps even starting a family in the months that would come, along with the new banu he would return to the pride with, however his original family would be an important factor in his life. He hadn't spent much time with any new cubs within the family, but his siblings that he grew up with he would still wish to spend time with, if he could.
"Do you have any ideas of who you will be given to?" He asked, simply to make conversation, and also, because he was curious. He hoped it was someone nice.
