This is a PRP between :

i) Rivener and Aphi
ii) Xiu and Hazeline
iii) Isi and Eiry (?)

Time: The first weekend after Xiu has been discharged.

Setting: A pleasant morning

“Hmm…this is rather far from town, isn’t it?” commented Hazeline as she glanced at the address given by the white Raevan. They were going to visit Rivener and his family today. Having called the Delaran household earlier, Rivener at least would have known that they were arriving. The guardian was a little nervous. She was going to be meeting the guardian of that …dangerously good looking Sigel. Hazeline still remembered how flushed her face was when Rivener had hugged her and quickly dismissed the thought. Like Xiu, Rivener might look like an adult but in terms of years…

He’s probably younger than my own little brother.. thought Hazeline with a sudden and horrible realization. That would mean that…if she found him attractive… … …

Hell no. She may be single but she was not a *****. Glancing at her own Raevan Hazeline smiled encouragingly. “You alright there, Xiu?”

Xiu nodded quietly, his hands carefully holding a plastic bag containing some fruits and a fruitcake. The white raevan was nervous. Rivener had saved him that night but had left before he regained consciousness. Xiu needed to thank Rivener. If the Scorpion Sigel had not been there …

Xiu was sure that a night in the deserted cemetery with an open wound would be hazardous not only to him but to humans as well. Slender fingers clutched at the bag a little as the Sigel recalled that incident. There was really not much to recall. All he knew was that…he had been knocked out and had only awoken almost a day later to find himself in the lab with a sleeping Lazarus by his side. And the fact that he had…grown. There was so much he needed to ask the scorpion Sigel and now that he had a small notebook and pen with him, he could.

The car finally came within the compound of the Delaran household and Xiu quickly followed his guardian out of the car. Floating a little behind his guardian, Xiu waited while Hazeline rang the doorbell and called out.

Rivener had informed Aphismet of the impending visit, of course. Strange conversation, that.

"Xiu and Hazeline are coming over," the Scorpion began casually after putting the phone receiver down.

"Who?" Aphi replied, blinking.

"Xiu... and Hazeline..." Riv raised an eyebrow like his human had lost his marbles, but in the next moment the Sigel rolled his eyes upwards, realizing. "Ohhh, you've never ever met them. Xiu's the one who was with me at the anime convention. Hazeline's his guardian."

"Oh." THAT Xiu. Aphismet recalled that anime convention incident with a shudder. He knew what Rivener had done, and neither of them had spoken of it since... And now Aphi would be forced to meet the one Riv had done that for. It left the chef feeling a little conflicted, to say the least. "A-alright."

The rest of the wait was very much a contrast between the two Delaran males: Aphismet fussed in the kitchen, wondering if he should make something, trying to keep himself busy so he wouldn't think too much. Rivener, conversely, just sat calmly on the living room couch watching television. When the doorbell rang, it was Riv who found himself closest, therefore answering, the door.

The Scorpion turned off the tv and floated to the front entrance, swinging the door open wide and greeting both guests with a wide smile. "Xiu, Hazeline! Welcome! Please, come in... Xiu, I'm so glad you've recovered." The Sigel wasn't the type to offer hugs or anything like that, so he contented himself with a pat on the other Sigel's shoulder. "All grown, too. Looking good! Aphi, come say hello!"

The white-haired chef rounded the corner just as he was summoned, plastering a smile onto his face, ready to meet the one who'd caused Rivener to kill. Whatever the chef had expected, it apparently wasn't the dignified, polite-looking white Sigel he found. Large chocolate-colored eyes blinked owlishly for a moment before Aphi finally found his voice.

"Ah. Hello, I'm Aphismet, Rivener's guardian. You must be Hazeline, and Xiu. Welcome!" He offered his hand, first to the woman and then to the Sigel, smiling a little easier. They seemed like good people... Perhaps Rivener had only done what he thought was right in protecting the white Raevan, after all?

“ Thank you,” said Hazaline with a chuckle at Rivener’s exuberance before stepping past the Sigel and into his home. It had that…old fashioned…yes, nostalgic feel to it. An old house in a large yard… the guardian had only ever read about those in books. Well, her stepfather had a large enough home but with him and her mother constantly travelling, the young lady found herself better suited for a manageable town-style dwelling. Besides, a large house meant more space to clean and care for.

A couple of moments later after his name was called, footsteps could be heard from within the house and a young man, who, to Hazeline’s surprise, had white hair, stepped in and greeted them warmly. Taking the offered hand, Hazeline smiled at the other guardian. “Pleased you meet you, Aphismet , and yes, I’m Hazeline,” said the woman with a smile and a laugh. “ I’m finally able to meet Rivener’s guardian. The Sigel has been talking about you,”

Xiu nodded at Rivener’s greeting and looked sheepish at the mention of his growth. He was still getting used to being a…Sigel; and the fact that he had lost his voice. Glancing over at the human who had just arrived, Xiu smiled and shook his hand. Here was another human who had white hair like him! And …oh!

Remembering the bag of fruits and cake, Xiu nodded and offered it to the chef with a warm smile, mouthing the words “Pleased to meet you,” as he did so.
PostPosted: Sun Jul 18, 2010 7:51 pm

Aphismet's smile changed into more of a wince at Hazeline's declaration that Rivener had been "talking about him". That usually didn't bode well, or so the chef thought. He simply couldn't imagine Rivener saying much of anything nice about his guardian. "If he told you bad things, I assure you it's not all there is to me!"

Xiu came forward then to offer his present to Aphi, the chef accepting with eyebrows raised high. Was the white Sigel shy? Why'd he only mouth the words like that? Still, the chef reached forward and took the proferred bag with a nod of his head. "Pleased to meet you too, Xiu. Ah, fruit! And fruitcake! How thoughtful, thank you both. Please, come on in, let's go to the kitchen so I can store this all away." Aphismet turned and motioned for everyone to step inside and head towards the same hallway he'd come out of. They'd find the kitchen easily once they reached that corner.

"Isikoro, my brother, and his Raevan Eiry might be back later so perhaps you'll get to meet them! Eiry's a Sigel too, like your Xiu. And there's also Alex and Zul living here, surely you know them..." Aphismet looked proud as he mentioned his family, filling with affection. He placed the bag of fruit on the kitchen island, slowly taking the items out and displaying them as he continued: "I think they'll be out today though, so it might just be Eiry and Isi. Maybe. Not sure when they'll be back, really."

Rivener raised an eyebrow. Xiu was polite and all, but certainly not shy. The mouthed words caused just as much confusion in Riv as in Aphi, and the Scorpion kept to Xiu's side as the group headed towards the house's insides. "...Are you alright?" he asked quietly, leaning closer to the other Sigel. "What's with the not-talking?"

“Oh umm…no, actually…,” said Hazeline as she followed the white haired guardian into the kitchen. Judging from the size of the kitchen and the number of utensils in it, someone around here obviously had a passion for cooking. Hazeline wondered who it was. “Rivener has actually spoken…quite highly of you and your…concern over his well being. He’s even given me and Xiu a couple of tips on good raevan care…or something like that,” said the guardian with a chuckle. “He’s rather like a concerned big brother as far as I see it,”

“And I never knew that Alex and Zul lived here,” said Hazeline with surprise. “I had assumed she lived in the staff quarters in the lab, like Dr. Kyou and Lazarus,”

Xiu was not surprised when Rivener sidled up to him during their journey to the kitchen; stopping just beyond the kitchen’s doorway out of their guardians’ view. Shrugging his shoulders, Xiu touched his throat and shook his head sadly, indicating that he was not able to speak. It wasn’t that much of a shock really since he had willingly traded his voice; not so much as his growth had been anyway. What he could not live with was that…he had allowed himself to be fooled by the trader. Blue eyes hardened slightly at the recollection, indicating that whatever it was that had made him lose his voice, it wasn’t something particularly nice or…fair.

Aphismet blinked, eyes widening as he went. Rivener had praised Aphi to strangers? Given tips on good Raevan care?! The chef was clearly stunned by the news, frozen with one plum in his hand. That was... so incredibly heartening. The white-haired man laughed softly, shaking his head. "Wow, I wasn't expecting THAT. Riv's usually so short with me. But I'm glad he's taken a shine to your Xiu. Rivener does tend to look after younger Raevans, though if Xiu's a Sigel he must not be all that young."

Mentioning Alex and Zul brought a proud flush to Aphismet's face again, his eyes glittering with affection. "Alex is my girlfriend," he explained casually, "though she's away on work so often she probably DOES live in the staff quarters of the lab half the time. What about you, where do you live?" He didn't want this to be all about him, of course.

Rivener's brows drew down into a frown as he watched Xiu voicelessly explain that he couldn't speak anymore. There was no hiding the scowl on the white Sigel's face as Xiu considered the situation that had removed him of his voice, and instantly Rivener knew that he hadn't lost it as a result of growing up. Something else had taken it away. The Scorpion's newly-healed wings snapped open with much less strength than they used to, Rivener rustling them back into place on his spine soon after.

"What happened exactly?" the Sigel asked his paler friend, staying by the doorway and keeping his voice low so the humans wouldn't hear. "Why were you on the road in that weird place anyway? What's with the sword? Where'd your voice go?" He wanted to know. He wanted to help.

Aphi’s surprise was both a little shocking and amusing in a way and Hazeline found herself laughing a little at the chef’s expression. Hadn’t Rivener confided in the chef then? Well…as far as judging someone by their looks go, Rivener did seem to play the part of the ‘bad boy’ rather well; granted a bad boy with a good heart but like all ‘bad boys’, Hazeline could certainly imagine Rivener not wanting to tell Aphi these things in case his street credit was tarnished. Or perhaps…there was a part of him that wanted certain aspects of his life being kept a secret. Hazaeline found herself musing over this. Xiu had certainly displayed such qualities recently and it wasn’t all because of his growth as well. Hazaeline realized that ever since the Hungry Ghost…no, it was slightly before the Hungry Ghost incident that Xiu was starting to keep secrets from her; no longer eagerly explaining everything he did anymore…

“Well…Xiu is still rather young. He just turned into a Sigel last week,” said Hazeline softly. The circumstances of Xiu’s growth had been rather upsetting with her being away and Xiu braving it out against some malicious supernatural….thing. “Perhaps…you may have not notice it yet but…his lack of speech has something to do with the circumstances surrounding his growth,”

“And…oh…oh!,” exclaimed Hazeline with a slightly flushed face when Aphi told the guardian of Alex’s relationship with him. “T-That would explain the...umm…living together,” said Hazeline, clearly not the master of love. “She’s a very capable person… and Zul’s a nice raevan…,”

Although there was nothing much that they could do about it now, Rivener’s flared wings and frown was gratifying to say the least and Xiu couldn’t agree more with him. Flicking his wings a little and glancing at their talking guardians, Xiu once again turned his attention to Rivener. Where should he begin? There was so much to say and tell. Rivener had helped him so the Sigel at least deserved to know that much. Despite having told the story before, Xiu took out his notebook and pen and wrote, his hand moving quickly and neatly over the booklet’s page.

My family was threatened and I exchanged my voice for a sword to defend them. I was tricked though. I made a deal to have my voice returned to me once the threat has been… here there was a pause as the Sigel tried finding a word to write. …destroyed but the ‘Trader’ had other plans. I was still a frei when all of this happened though and must have grown when lying unconscious by that road you saw and I thank you for helping me wrote Xiu evenly in neat strokes. Thank you for all those other times you have helped me as well

Aphismet's eyebrows raised. "Last week?" he repeated, giving the newly-grown Sigel a happy grin before turning that expression back to Hazeline. "Congratulations to him, and to you! You must truly be taking good care of him if he grew so soon!" Aphi knew of some that were still Frei even though they were older than Riv... Though the ones who were, had been mostly re-homed. Perhaps the unstable life situation affected their growth? But conversely, that meant Xiu was most likely very well cared for indeed.

Learning that the white Raevan was newly mute was a shock, though. Aphi shook his head. "I didn't realize, no. I thought he was just shy! He hasn't told you what happened to his voice?" That sounded familiar. Raevans tried to take care of their guardians just as much as the guardians tried to take care of their Raevans, it seemed. "Riv keeps secrets too when he thinks it'd be too much for me to bear..."

Rivener waited patiently until the scribbling was over, resisting the urge to lean forward and read along as it was written. The elegantly-printed handwriting fit Xiu to a T, and Riv smirked as he looked at the upright, well-organized letters for a moment.

Then the content of the note sank in, Rivener's eyes darkening to a scowl. He wondered what the hell Xiu had needed a sword for in the first place. And a sword he couldn't just get at a weapon-selling store in Durem's shadier districts... Though maybe Xiu just plain didn't know about those? Still, a trader that took his voice sounded like it would deal in weapons of a more mystical kind, and so it wasn't a big stretch for Riv to figure out Xiu must have been fighting some kind of spirit enemy.

With a sympathetic sigh Rivener handed the notepad back, shaking his head. "Don't thank me. I should have gotten there sooner. You were half-..." He glanced at the guardians, making sure they weren't eavesdropping, and he lowered his voice another notch. "-half dead on the road. If I'd been there sooner I might have helped... And for the other times, don't mention it. We Raevans have to look out for one another." He gave a wry smirk, patting Xiu's bare shoulder in a friendly way.

Hazeline laughed, looking a little embarrassed. Truth be told, Hazeline had a gut feeling that she wasn’t all that great a guardian. With two jobs and a younger brother to drive around, Hazeline wasn’t exactly a perfect role model guardian with ample time to spare for her raevan. Sure, she allowed Xiu to help around the bookstore and gave him weekly allowances but… she simply had not really…gone out of her way to be there for him. Xiu on the other hand…

“Yeah…or it could be the food. We live close to a park and Xiu seems happy enough when he feeds there,” said Hazeline with a soft chuckle. “And yeah, he has…,” said Hazeline with a drop in her voice. “He’s told me everything, about how he actually fought something that followed me back from the cemetery only to target my young brother…,”

Hazeline shook her head. “In all sense and purpose…I find that hard to believe really. My raevan- Xiu…he isn’t the kind to get physical… I mean…he’s more of a bookworm... well…at least that was how it was as a frei but as a Sigel…,”

Hazeline glanced in the direction of the doorway where Rivener and Xiu seemed to be conversing; Rivener verbally and Xiu with his pen and paper. “…I just don’t know…he actually has a sword now although it’s usually kept at home but still... You leave home for a couple of days to attend a seminar and return home to a grown but hurt raevan in possession of a sword…,”

Xiu took the notebook back gingerly from the scorpion Sigel and felt his wings drooping slightly from the look Rivener was giving him. He’d be getting that look more and more often recently. The look that said ‘I can’t believe you did that but now that it has happened…’

Vaguely the white Sigel gave a glance at the hand that was patting him and smiled because that seemed like the right thing to do. Honestly…perhaps he should have asked for help from some of the more experienced raevans or even Doctor Kyou but… there was always that quiet nagging voice that said… ‘I want to see this through myself’ and the ever dangerous ‘I can do it. Just in my own time and way I can do it. I am not weak’.

Placing his own hand over Rivener’s, Xiu chuckled silently and nodded, thanking the Sigel for his words. Now that he had lost them verbally, conversations have gotten a lot quieter. Taking up his pen once again Xiu wrote But I might have been fully dead if you hadn’t come when you did. Besides, Lazarus has treated my wounds well. They hardly hurt anymore. The bandages were off yesterday. I hate having antiseptic rubbed in though

The Sigel then ended those words with a comical ‘sad face’ sad
PostPosted: Tue Jul 20, 2010 6:42 pm

Aphi sighed, wondering if trouble just followed Raevans around. you never heard of the regular folk running into troubles with ghosts possessing them, spirits following them from cemetaries to haunt their brothers, and who knew what else...

"Yeah, they're kind of a mystery as Sigels, aren't they?"
Aphismet sighed again, glancing at his own grown-up Raevan. Since he'd become a Sigel, Rivener had undoubtedly been more violent than ever, though more careful about keeping it from Aphi. "I guess they're just realizing they are stronger. I'm sure Xiu only did what he did because he felt he had to."

Xiu had a sword? Odd choice, Aphi thought, but it was better than the loaded gun the chef had once found in his Scorpion's leather jacket.

Rivener read the note as it was once again passed over to him, smiling lightly. "Glad you're healing up. I get what you mean about the antiseptic though, that stuff's horrible. My own bandages came off last week and I still have to be careful..."

Ah, Xiu had been unconscious at the time. He probably didn't realize Riv had been wounded. The Sigel figured he should share, so that Xiu wouldn't be confused about it for any reason. "I uh, had an accident a while back and both my wings were broken. So they were all bandaged up when I found you, but I doubt you remember seeing it. We were bandaged buddies for a while." He chuckled humorlessly: surely neither of them enjoyed that particular fact very much.

Hazeline nodded. “Yes, they are. You mentioned that you have another Sigel living here as well? Umm…Eiry right? What’s he like?”

Following Aphi’s gaze to the Raevans, Hazeline took a moment to observe the two Sigels with quiet amazement. “It’s like they do not have an intermediate growth, huh? It’s only chest one day and a full fledged stomach the next. They seem to have aged physically as well. Errr…at least Xiu seemed to have collected a couple of years along with that lower torso of his…,”

Xiu’s surprise turned to concern when he learned about Rivener’s broken wings. What sort of accident did Rivener have to obtain such wounds? A mental image of the Sigel getting knocked over by a truck came to mind and Xiu quickly dismissed it. Rivener wouldn’t be that stupid to stand in the way of a truck. Did he fall?

Blue eyes puzzled over this for a minute. Probably not. Gravity seemed to work differently with raevans. Giving Rivener a thoughtful look, Xiu finally came up with a question he thought suitable. Scribbling quickly, the white Sigel held the book up to Rivener once more “Was the accident caused by a…’Who’?”
PostPosted: Tue Jul 20, 2010 7:28 pm

Aphismet nodded at the mention of Eiry, though it was with a sad note. Perhaps the others were going to be out very much longer? "You might meet him if they come back from their errand soon enough, but yes. Eiry. Short for Eirdirsceol. He's kind of a, uh... A prankster. Incorrigible. But he does care for us all in his way, too. He's green, kinda ghostly, likes to read Shakespeare and Poe. Talks funny, from reading all those books, he uses old English as a common dialect. It's rather endearing really." The man snickered, shaking his head at the recalled shenanigans.

"And yes, the growth happens all of a sudden, doesn't it. It really was from one day to the next with Riv, he went to bed a Frei and woke up a Sigel. Eiry's growth was a little more nerve-wracking, but no less short. The span of a few hours, I'd say. As for them growing up..." Aphismet pondered this, glancing at his ward thoughtfully. Riv didn't act much different, really. Perhaps a little less quick to resort to aggression and confrontation? "Maybe a tiny bit. But Riv already acted sort of teenager-y when he was a Frei, so it's hard to tell. Too much TV when he was little, I think."

Rivener figured there'd be a question like this, but he was glad Xiu phrased it in a way that spared Riv from naming anyone. "Yeah, it's because of a Who. I didn't just run into a wall or anything." He scoffed at the idea, a lopsided smirk pulling his lip up. "I'd rather not talk about it really, what's done is done. The breaks are healing. Enough about me, though. Are you suffering some kind of side effects? Weak, needing to feed more, stuff like that? Wounds are kinda iffy on us half-bodies."

Hazeline nodded. “Eiry sounds like someone Xiu’d get along with,” the guardian said with a chuckle. “I don’t think Xiu has read Shakespeare or Poe but if it’s books, they shouldn’t have any problems together. Who knows, I might even get to see the playful side of my raevan with someone like Eiry?”

Hazeline made a face at the mention of television. “Don’t I know the influence of television? My brother, he alternates between watching it and playing computer games all the time. He picks up weird phrases and …gestures from them too. Seems to think that the world is one large game or something….. I say, do you have any pictures of a young Rivener? I would like to see them. I have a couple of terrible ones of Xiu in my phone but yeah…the pixels aren’t too good…,”

Xiu chuckled and shook his head. Of course Rivener wouldn’t run blindly into walls. The very thought of it was absurd; unless of course the Sigel had been drunk or something. Xiu wondered if Raevans could get drunk but the Sigel seemed reluctant to talk about his ‘accident’ though and Xiu was polite enough to not push the subject further. Everyone had something they wanted to keep away from others…

At Rivener’s question, Xiu shook his head. He was feeling well. Apart from the slightly stiff shoulders and the desire to scratch at the scabs that had formed over the closed wounds from time to time, the white Sigel felt…fine. In fact…

Looking at Rivener, Xiu gave the other an almost playful smile. Taking up his book, the Sigel wrote ‘I recall you mentioning that this house is ‘interesting’. So far we’d only seen the hallway and the kitchen. Would you show me around? Our guardians seem to have forgotten us for the moment anyway’
PostPosted: Wed Jul 21, 2010 5:39 pm

Aphismet chuckled, nodding along to the mention of books. "Oh, yes, honestly! If it's books, he and Xiu will be like two peas in a pod. Eiry would turn the whole attic into a library if he could, I'm sure." The chef chuckled, truly wishing the younger two would return. Eiry so rarely made new friends, and even Isi would have to come to like Hazeline, the young woman being so kind and chatty.

"Oh jeez, television and video games are like the word of god around here. Especially with Zul, strangely: he's all but addicted to some guitar-game where the colors come flying at you on the screen." Aphi didn't really know the name, but it had the word "guitar" in it... hm, he shrugged it off with a smirk. "As for pictures, I have many! A lot of them Rivener took himself, as a matter of fact. He's kind of an amateur photographer. Hold on." Walking around the counter, Aphi headed to the Dining room nearby: the bookshelves lining the wall on one side held a few cookbooks, a few photo albums... One of these latter was pulled out and Aphi returned to the kitchen, laying the thing on the counter and flipping it open. "Here's a couple! At the planetarium... the first beach party... one while we were vacationing in Gambino. Hahah, his hair was much longer."

Rivener wasn't expecting that look on Xiu, snickering as the other wrote something. Since when did straight-laced Xiu ever give playful looks? Amused, Riv peered into the notepad and grinned, nodding. "Sure, we can visit! Though the interesting parts are mostly outside in the back yard and in the swamps. We do have SOME ghosts in the house," he added in a whisper, unaware how Hazeline might react to learning this, "but Eiry's the only one who can make them come out at will. We can still look around though! C'mon."

First, of course, Rivener brought Xiu back into the living room. He motioned to the large TV and the many consoles. "This is where we spend most of our time, though. There's only three rooms on the main floor: kitchen, which you saw, Dining room, which is hella boring, and this place. Most of those games are Zul's. Anyhoo, let's go upstairs!"

There was one room Riv was eager to show off, and he hurried into this one first, grinning. "This is the painting room! Aphi and I paint here. Isi too, sometimes. Here, look, these are some the paintings I made!" Rather proudly, Riv pulled his best pieces out of the drying closet, showing them off with puffed-out chest. A vase of flowers, a scene at dusk (modeled after Riv's own backyard), and a scene from the park.

As if on cue, Eiry floated through the garage door, preceding the grumpy Isikoro who none-so-gently kicked the garage door open so he could shoulder his way inside. It was almost as if the mental longing from Aphismet summoned them from their errand just in time to catch Hazeline and the white new-born sigel.

"Aphismet!" Isikoro called from the hallway, his voice already filled with irritation, "Could you kindly explain the fact that floating into other people's cars on the road to recite excepts of madness from Steven King's stories is a terrible idea? I've tried every ******** way I can phrase it, but I can't get it through his head that he could cause very serious accidents by pulling pranks like that! Yeah, I'm talking about you, Eirdirsceol Etul Delaran."

Floating through the wall and cabinets in a lazy fall, Eiry gave a languid shrug of his shoulders to Aphismet, "Little does the average driver realize that they fall into hazardous traps of habit; it's my appointed duty to snap them from their reveries and mindless mechanic motions of meandering down the road with simple cacophonies of literature's best. Don't you agree, Aphismet?"

Setting down the bags of gardening supplies on the counter he carried in for Isikoro, Eiry turned and wiped his hands across one another, turning a curious and energetic red eye upon Hazeline. "My, my, my," he crowed, glancing at the cook, "Who is this? I'm afraid I wasn't included in this day's planning, or I would've dressed properly for a guest! Isikoro, we have a young mistress in our midst! Another friend, Aphismet? Another cook? Another owner? Prithee, relinquish the answer when I have said it right. I do ever so much enjoy guessing games!" Leaning forward with the speed of his excited ramble, Eiry peered at the guest like a suspicious chef looking for the child to have stolen cookies from the warm baking tin.

"Oh, ********, we have a guest?" asked Isi in embarrassment. He stood peering around the corner before he edged around with his crutches, looking torn between irritation and somber guilt. His pants were half covered with smears of grass stains and dirt, heavy signs of evidence towards their last adventure. "Oh, jeez, hello there."
