The thick forest seemed even thicker as the orange/gold mare trotted through. Heavy branches brushing her face and body, she recalled how the trees had once seemed protective and securing. She sighed to herself as she pushed on. Within this mass of trees was her home, an open meadow with tall grass, and, hopefully, her brother. Though she didn't regret their idea to seperate to find more... fertile lands, she was a little sad that she had been unsuccessful. Even so, as she neared the center of the woods, her spirits began to lift. Even if Beau, friend, caretaker, caretakee, and brother, wasn't around, she would be home again! She smelled a sun warmed breeze as the trees began to thin ever so slightly. As the sun itself started to break through the canopy, Roshana was once again her chipper self, eager to lay where she had many times before. Home!

After a long trek, the stallion wearily walked forward with no place really in mind. He just had the need to move onward. The adventure of the mountains turned out to be less of an adventure and more of a self inflicted torture. Now he just wanted to put that chapter behind him and move on to the next.
He barely noticed the trees as he was passed through them, only enough to miss them as he passed. He wanted to find a place to rest and think. What ever happened to his dream? Where was his harem? What happened to his adventure?

Prancing through the treeline, Roshana paused to absorb the joy she felt at being home again. It was still like she remembered. Tall, gently waving grass in greens and yellows, a clear sky overhead, ground flat save for a couple random rocks that were good for laying on, all protected by the thick ring of trees. The faint breeze fell from over the tree tops, swooping through and ruffling her mane, pushing it in and out of her eyes. Yep, this was home! Lowering her head for a bite of the sweet grasses, she also sniffed around, looking for any scents that might have been recent.

As thoughts raced through Beau's head, he began to notice little things. Familiar things. The small creek flowing over the smooth rocks. The sweet smell upon the breeze. He remembered this smell, but it couldn't be. Could it? No.
He headed towards the familiar, he could rest there without any worries or care. Moving through the trees, he could see the breaking between the branches. Not much further, he could see the opening from here. Something from his past made him push faster to that opening.
Was that a bit of orange over there? He had to be seeing things.

Sighing softly, finding no recent scents other than average woodland critters, she still looked around her old home happily. Maybe she didn't find that special male. Maybe she wasn't now living gaily with a herd. She would start again. Or maybe she would live here from now on. Grow old and happy living in the place of memories. The bare drift of wind that passed through the thick woods brought a scent that was both familiar and different. No, it couldn't be. His scent wasn't fresh anywhere around here. She was imagining things. She was fine with that though. Closing her eyes and taking another whiff of the imagined scent of her brother, she romped through the grasses as though he were running right next to her again.

Breaking through the trees, Beau took in a sight he thought he might never see again. Not far off he could see his sister running through the grass of the meadow. Is she running with her eyes closed? Had she noticed him, he doubted it. How about a little trick? Waiting for her to run closer to his spot, he couldn't help but to smile a little. Rest can wait, time for sibling "love"...hope she won't hit me too hard for this one.
As she passed him, he joined her in her run matching her step for step. All the time making sure to hit the ground at the same time as her. Her pace hasn't changed any in their time apart. How long before she would notice?

When the scent of her brother, changed but still familiar, became stronger in her nose, a sad smile curved her mouth. If only her were really there. She cracked an eye open to check her path, saw Beau running next to her, and closed her eyes again. Wow. She wanted to see him so much that she was imagining things! It wasn't until a few strides later when she stumbled over a rock that she realized something was amiss. Her hallucination was still there! Finding her balance, she turned to stare at what couldn't have been her brother. He had gone to find adventure and a herd. He couldn't be there....

As he watched his sister trip, he went to try and catch her, but she caught her footing. He could see the disbelief in her eyes. "Whoa there! You should really keep your eyes open when you're running like that. You just might trip over something. I thought I taught you better than that." Beau said with a grin.

Even before the male was finished talking, Roshana let out a high shriek and jumped at him, nuzzling her head against his neck and under his chin. "Beau!! You!" She ran a circle around him before finally pausing in front of him, rubbing her nose against his, rambling on and on in her excitement. "What are you doing here? Where did you go? What did you see? Did you meet anyone? Am I an auntie yet? Were there a lot of herds? I saw a lot of water, did you? I didn't like it. Did you get very far? What was it like? Did you miss me?"

Beau couldn't help but grin, as his sister bounced around. "Slow down! Take a breathe, I can only answer one question at a time. Why don't we relax a bit and we can talk about our travels? I know my trip was long and very tiring." Beau looked for a soft grassy area for him and his sister to lay down. Eyeing a lovely plush bit of earth, Beau nudge his sister to the spot. "To answer to your first and second question, it is by accident that I am here or maybe fate. I was just wandering after my trip to the mountains and somehow ended up back here." He laid onto the ground. The feeling was nice, to be off his weary legs, to just be without movement. Maybe running wasn't the best idea, but he had enjoyed it at the time. "I could ask you the same. I thought you were looking for a herd of you own? Was there none to your liking?" Looking at his dear sister, not in a demanding way, but truly concerned. Who could not want his sister as a part of their herd?

Immediately she did as she was told, opening her mouth wide for a deep breath, she held it a moment before releasing it slowly. She nodded eagerly, hopping over to the dirt where she was directed, her small frame easily directed. She was just too excited to see her brother again, and listened intently to his story. She cocked her head when the question was returned to her. She looked off to the side, but then gave Beau a small smile and shook her head, deciding to follow up with the way he had phrased his question. "Nope. Perhaps I was being pickier than I should have, but I didn't like the options out there. I might try again later and go somewhere else to look." She sighed softly, but kept smiling. The herds she had found were either set in their ways and didn't want an outsider, or the stallion wanted someone prettier or less airy or not so small. No need to say that though. "So, I wanted a break and came home. I'm happy I was able to find it after all this time, and that it hasn't seemed to change at all."

"Somehow it seems we will always be able to find our way home; if we are looking for it or not." Beau grins to himself a little. "As I said, I had not planned on coming home, just wandered back here needing a place to rest. The mountains were more tiresome than anything I ever thought." His eye began to droop a little a he talked. "Sorry Roshana, I am more tired than I thought."

Roshana smiled, nodding and poking her nose at him affectionately. They would always find their way home when they needed to. She cocked her head when Beau started looking tired, giggling and inching closer, tucking her head underneath Beau's chin. Maybe they were a little old for cuddling, but she still felt young. Especially next to her brother. "I've been walking a lot too. Lets nap."

Beau woke with a start. Was that a hoof? And when had he fallen asleep? Last thing he remembered was his sister's smiling face and sweet voice murmuring something he couldn't recall. Was it all just a dream? But he could still feel her warmth next to him.
He looked down at Roshana, she should find happiness. That's all he wished for her. For now, he'd just lay next to her and protect her for even just a bit longer. He knew she had done alright by herself while they were both one their own. But this was his sister, he damn near raised her! Well maybe she help raise him too, but that's beside the point. And after some of the things he had seen in his travels. He could never fulling tell her of those things. She was too sweet and innocent, and always will be for him.
Knowing they would all too soon, he would keep her safe as long as he could. Beau nuzzled her closer to him. She still seems to move around in her sleep...a lot.

Roshana's eyes opened slowly, relishing in the feel and sense of security she had, waking up to the scent of Beau next to her once more. So much nicer being next to her brother than some old rock. Grinning sleepily, she stretched her legs into the air, giggling when she realized she had flipped onto her back in her sleep. Rolling onto her belly, she glanced up at the sky, the sun hidden low behind the trees. So late already? She turned and grinned at her brother. Had they really been apart, or had she dreamed it all? "Did you enjoy your nap?"
