METAPLOT - Part One - The Beginning, and The Past. Note: This takes place -before- Headquarters or the spell to capture souls was cast. This is THE Beginning of Ghosts of the Past....
Matilda sat quietly on her large bed, the gentle gauze of her transparent white dress floating around her in an unseen breeze. She was thinking, and the expression on her lovely face mirrored it perfectly. Something had drastically changed in the world she had known before she had been killed. No longer was the hate apparent, but it was still there- sneaking around in the corners, cloaked subtly in the guise of politeness
The small glances.
The little smiles.
The gloss of the world had changed, but the core had not. It had gotten worse - and Matilda felt it in her heart.
And she didn't like it at all.
But how...HOW would she change it? How could she breed acceptance? So many of her kind had been persecuted, and still were. So many had died - horrible, wrongful deaths - only to be sent into the river of souls, past the nine gates and into oblivion.
How could she change it? She couldn't physically go back in time...but could she bring time to her? That was certainly a thought...and something she would have to look into.
Her laws stated that she could not go back and change the past. It never said anything about her bringing the past to the future...
A smirk touched the woman's lips and she stood up, gliding to the cabinet where her books and various bottles and bobbs were lined up. She could do it...It would take a lot, but she could DO it....
But how? That...that was something she would have to think about.
Fingers trailed over each and every one of her dragon-leather bound books, the scales scratching at her fingers slightly - something she was used to. It comforted her, if she was completely honest. The feeling of life that was given to make the instruments that would bring salvation to the magickal race.
She stopped on one particularly large book, thick with worn parchment-like paper sticking out this way and that. It was a very old book...Perhaps this was the one she should use? It had been passed down her family for generations, each member adding a bit of their essence, their magicks, their wisdom and thoughts, into the very pages. The pages were constantly changing, and no matter how many times you read it, it was never the same. It used to give Matilda a headache, but now...Now she knew it was the book she would need to pull off one of the greatest challenges that she would ever face.
The woman pulled the heavy book from the shelf, half carrying, half dragging it to the bed, where she hoisted it onto the comforter and opened it with a soft groan of protest. The poor bindings had not been cracked open for too long.
"There, there, little book." She murmured, stroking at the spine of the binding, extracting a small shudder, the book falling open compliantly. "That's a good book."
And she began reading. Her eyes scanned the text for hours upon hours, days upon days...never moving, not eating, nor sleeping. Matilda was a woman on a mission, and she HAD to find what she was looking for. It wasn't until the fifth day of no sleep that the Ancient came across the passage she was looking for. Time travel.
For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. Nothing can be taken without something being given, and nothing can be given freely without something being taken somewhere else. It is what keeps the balance in the universe. To bring yourself into the past, one must simply observe. One may not interefere with the past, for to change one thing could change the world - and more often than not, in a not so pleasant way.
But to go into the past, one must sacrifice time in the present - fairly take and fairly give. Time travel is not a simple thing. It is difficult and, if done improperly, can cause serious psychological and physical damage. One must take the upmost care in time travel, and only those who have experience in advanced magicks should attempt to do so. Even then, there is a danger.
Matilda stared at the passage. She had known much of what she had read, but how would it help her to bring the future to her? She studied the spell written below and mouthed the words, careful not to even so much as whisper them. "Dear Mother and Father," She whispered, "Help me seek the answers that I long to know. Help me gain the knowledge to set the world back in balance..."
Nobody answered the Ancient as she silently pleaded for the gods, for the heavens, to answer her and to give her the strength she needed. And it was then that Matilda knew she was utterly alone on the quest to set things right.
This only made Matilda more determined to do what she had set out to do.
She was weary, her eyes drooping. No longer could she remain awake, it had taken all her reserves. But she had to do this! She...had...to....Sleep. And she did, slumping over, falling asleep.
It was in her sleep where the answer came to her, causing her eyes to snap open. It was so SIMPLE...in a very difficult sort of way. She did not know how she could have missed it before! To bring Present to Past, one must sacrifice Future. To bring Past to Present...one must sacrifice Present. HER Present.
But how would sacrificing herself help? How could she help, if she was dead? Her soul could only last....Her soul. Her eyes lit up with epiphany. Her SOUL! She could tie the past to her soul!
It would eventually kill her. It would, however be enough. JUST enough to set the wheels in action and maybe complete her task...

METAPLOT - Part Two - Wheels in Motion Note: This is the past. This is THE Beginning of Ghosts of the Past.... It was a month before Matilda had been able to start on the spell, collecting the correct plants, stones, and ingredients at the correct time. Moonflower had to be harvested under the midnight full moon and purified. Snap dragon had to be collected at high noon and cleansed with moon-blessed water. Thistle had to be cut at the crack of dawn and washed in a salt bath. Her Mugwort had to be fetched at dusk and ground at dawn. And her Bay Leaves had to be left out for the new moon.
Her four stones, Amethyst, Amazonite, Opal, and Aquamarine all had to be blessed and powered on the full moon as well, all without touching the Moonflower blossoms. Several other ingredients had to be collected, crushed, powered and stored for at least weak to allow their potency to become stronger. Needless to say, it was a lot of work and preparation.
Finally the day that was perfect for casting arrived, and Matilda stood over her cauldron dressed in her black ceremonial robes - Black, for neutrality. Systematically, the Ancient placed the stones, and again, added the ingredients.
"For liberation," she murmured, dropping several of the white and yellow blossoms into the heated water of the cauldron. "Mugwort, for healing," The Mugwort was then, as the Moonflower had been, dropped into the cauldron.
She continued, Snap Dragon - for protection, Thistle - for strength, Bay Leaf - for victory, and then moved on to the stones - the solid items which would create the foundation of the spell.
"Opal, for change," she scraped some of the opal into the mixture, the liquid turning a soft lilac color. "Amethyst, for spirituality," she tossed a small piece in with a plop. "Aquamarine, for travel," another plop could be heard.
And once more, she continued until all four stones were added to the mixture; Amazonite for Success was the last she added, turning the mixture a deep blue. The foundation and the growth of the spell had finally been completed - and it was now time to start the ritual to tie her own soul to and speak the words which would complete the spell.
"Past," the woman whispered, sprinkling in a small amount of dust. "Present," she pricked her finger, dropping a few drops of her scarlet blood - representing her person of which she would be tying to it - into the pot, "and Future." She dropped in a crystal, perfectly round.
As the last ingredient was placed in, the cauldron began to shudder and shake, a large mushroom cloud reminding her of her first, floating into the air and hovering above her.
"On this eve I plead of thee Bring the past, tie unto me As the sunlight now declines Offer now my soul to bind Past is past and future be Mark it now, so mote it be!"
As the last words were spoken, the familiar feeling of the mushroom cloud entering her own body and withdrawing a single glowing ball washed over her. Her soul had left her body, wrapped by the tendrils of smoke which had turned into what appeared to be a rope dipping into the cauldron. From this rope sprung many different strands, each connecting to the orb of light and pulling. Each time, she felt as if her very being was being pulled apart - for it was. A blinding fire shot through her body, causing convulsions and screams to wrack the girl's being. Each new thread that connected itself tugged a soul from death, placing it in limbo. Each new thread caused a shard of her soul to be ripped from the ball and recoil into the cauldron until there was nothing left and Matilda collapsed on the ground.
The ball slowly reformed and entered her, whole...but only for now. Each time a new life was actually awakened she knew she would feel that incredible pain yet again... only much worse.
For now the pain had faded to a dull ache, allowing the woman to stand up slowly. "It's done," she said to herself, acknowledging the fact she had sentenced herself to death.

METAPLOT - Part Three - The Assignment Note: this is the past. This is before the first wand was found. "You WHAT?!" Ianna screamed, her silver eyes widening with disbelief at what her daughter had just told her. Had Matilda really sentenced her own self to death? Hadn't Ianna been put enough with her only child growing UP so quickly?! WAS SHE THAT SELFISH!? So many things were running through the woman's head, causing her heart rate to speed to an unhealthy rate. Too much more and she was liable to have a heart attack.
Matilda's level glare towards her mother didn't help anything either, "I Spelled my soul to split and bring other lives back from death in order to restore a better balance of tolerance and hate, good and bad, etc." she droned, her matching silver eyes locking to her mother's. She could feel the tension flowing off her in droves and could almost feel her speeding heart beat - which she knew couldn't be good for a mortal woman of any age.
Ianna's hands were clinging to the chair she was sitting in, knuckles white from the strength used to keep herself from launching her body at the girl - no woman - standing before her, "You sentenced yourself to death, Matilda. Are you THAT selfish as to leave me without you?" Her voice was a deadly calm now - a tone that Matilda knew far too well.
It almost caused her to shudder.
"Are you so selfish as to cling to me when you know I'm doing this for the greater good of mankind, despite their whiney (no offense) attitude towards everything?"
Ianna slumped, knowing that Matilda was right. She was being selfish. But damn it all, wasn't she ALLOWED to be once in a while with all she had been put through? She damn well deserved some leniency in this matter, and said so, "I deserve to be."
Matilda shook her head, "No, You don't."
Ianna wilted, "You're right. I don't." she echoed, voice devoid of any fight. It was done and it wasn't like there was anything she could do to reverse it. Defeated, Ianna's heart rate dropped back to normal and the glare in her eyes faded to one of motherly worry.
"I had to do it."
"I know. But you could have told me beforehand...."
"You would have tried to stop me."
"No I would--Yes, I would have." A sigh.
Matilda moved to sit beside her mother, arms wrapping around her, head nestling into her neck gently, "I still need your help. I can't do this alone."
Ianna almost melted against her daughter, leaning against her and closing her silver eyes, "What can I do?" While she was terribly upset at her daughter for what she did, she would still do just about anything for her.
"I need you to collect the wands as they appear. I can't leave my realm often enough - it zaps my power. And it hurts, mom, when they awaken. I wouldn't be able to go most of the time anyway and by the time I'd be able to it may be too late."
Ianna was quiet for a long moment before giving a nod of her head, "Okay."
Matilda smiled, "Goodie."
Something about Matilda's smile made Ianna shiver when she looked up to see her face. Getting wands couldn't be TOO too hard...Could it?
Oh, yes. Yes it could.

Finding The Moon - Part One "You want me to go WHERE?" Ianna screamed at her unseen daughter. "The moon." came Matilda's voice, soft as silk and purring in Ianna's head as if there were nothing unordinary about going into outer space and traveling on a satallite.
"NO! NO NO NO NO NO! When I signed up for this gig, I didn't sign up for realm and space hopping. EARTH hopping, that's another thing. I may LIKE going to Paris, or Cairo, or...or...Hawaii or something, but THE MOON!? ARE YOU FRIGGIN NUTS?!"
There was a long silence. "That's to be debated. However, I need you to go to the moon. The first wand has began to awaken, and it needs you. I need you. Mother."
Ianna could almost feel Matilda smirk at her. She KNEW that when she used that word Ianna was putty in her hands...She never heard that title anymore...
"Fine...I'll g--" She didn't get to finish her sentence, but was immediately transported, without warning, to the moon.
"O...." Ianna looked around, though the first thing she noticed was...SHE COULDN'T BREATHE! She gasped for air, finding none, and panic rose in her.
MATTY! MATTY! ******** HELL MATTY I NEED OXYGEN! I AM NOT IMMORTAL! Ianna thought frantically. She felt light headed already, and began to droop.
"Oops." came the response, a pocket of air immediately wrapping itself around her.
"Bloody hell, Matty." she muttered, gasping for the air and greedily sucking it in. "This better last me."
Now that she could breathe, Ianna seemed a little more interested in where she was. The soft grey dust, the craters, and the millions upon millions of stars all around it. Oh! And the VIEW of the EARTH! It was amazing...
"I hate to interrupt, Ianna, but...Time is of the essence..."
Ianna snapped out of her daze and nodded her head, beginning her journey of searching for the wand.
After hours of fruitless combing of the moon's surface, and several refills of air, Ianna was close to giving up. "You sure it's here?"
"Of course I'm sure!" Matilda snapped indignantly. She was never wrong.
"Yeah yeah...But I can't--" she trailed off, a glitter of silver catching her eye. "Nevermind." she muttered, moving towards the staff of silver and moonstone which stuck out of a crater.
"See. I told you."
"Bite me." she hissed as she pulled the wand from the hole, dusting it off. "It's beautiful..."
"Yeah, it is...Pure silver and moonstone, quite expensive too. But it's more important than money." Matilda mused, never really getting the human concept of money, even when she was one. "It will be of the moon, when it emerges. And a looker too. Well, time to go home."
And so...Ianna was returned home, wand in hand, to find a home for the wand. Finding The Moon - Part Two Ianna sat grumpily in her shop. She knew that whoever was meant to find the Moon wand would be drawn into her shop by the wand's pull...but bloody hell! Did it have to take so long? She'd been waiting two weeks to find the right guardian, and so far, nobody had come in. She was getting anxious.
Silvery eyes darted to the left, the wand of the moon glinting in the very dim light of the shop. "Well, you'll have to wait a little longer, my friend."
Ianna's fingers trailed over the smooth metal of the silver wand handle and sighed, closing her eyes. She despised the fact she would have to give up her pretty trinket, but she knew that the wand, however pretty and shiny, was not hers to keep. She missed having a child around the house...Matilda had aged so quickly that it almost killed her. But...This at least, when she wasn't putting her life in danger to get the wands, was fulfilling enough.
She knew what would happen when the wand's owner came. They would be confused, wondering what led them to the dingy little dusty shop in the middle of nowhere. They would wonder why the hell they were there, and who the hell she was. And then, she would have them read from the book, just as a test to see if they truly were. If they weren't, she knew the book would stay closed until the real guardian came.
Her eyes opened to look at the old leather bound book laying beside her. "Yes, Thinking about you." she murmured, the book giving a shudder of appriciation. It wasn't forgotten in the hubbub of finding Moon. "I just wish we could hurry this up."
Ganty was walking home from here work, she was feeling weird all day allready and thought it would be a good idear to go home and sleep it out, she felt sick, but not realy sick at the same time. She was walking past closed stores and houses. She didn't pay any atention to any of the buildings untill somthing in here mind told here to look to here left. Ofcourse in that point of time she didn't that it was a wand that was leading here there, a lot spirit killed of somthing he believed in...
She looked left and noticed a small shop, in the display window there were small trinkits nothing special, nobody would notice this shop it was small and old, it looked open so Ganty walked to the door, she opened it. There she was standing in a dusty old shop looking face to face to a old lady not knowing why she even entered the shop.
If Ianna had known Ganty thought she looked like an old lady, she would have beaten her with the Book of Life and Death sitting before her. That is, if she even noticed her there.
She didn't, for quite some time, until the Book gave a rumble and Matilda mentally prodded her.
THATS HER THATS HER THATS HER!!!
All though it was strictly in her head and Ganty wouldn't be able to hear Matilda speak.
Ianna blinked. "Ow. That bloody well hurt my ears. Don't yell at me." she blinked yet again and lifted her head from her notes, noticing the girl walking into the shop. The book before her gave a little shudder..it was definitely her.
Brilliant eyes locked on Ganty's features and she nodded her head. "Welcome to Ghosts of the Past."
Ganty steped closer to the woman, now that she stands in the light she could see its not a old lady after all. She blinked when the woman looked up at here and sade the name of the shop "Welcome to Ghosts of the Past." she mumbled "What a strange name for a shop, could I ask you what you are selling in your little shop?"
She looked around saw a lot of shelves with books on them and wondered where they would be for. Again she looked at the woman, waiting for here responds.
Again she looked around, how could she be so rude! "Sorry my name is Ganty, i was just wondering around the streets when i found this little shop and the window display doesn't really say what your selling"
Ianna smirked. The smirk was rather frightening, if you didn't know how half insane Ianna was at times, especially when Matilda was talking to her.
"Selling? Oh, we don't sell anything here. You see..." she paused. "Well, here. See for yourself." Ianna reached for the large leather book and pushed it across the counter to sit in front of Ganty. It immediately slammed shut. "You'll have to be able to open the book to read what we do here. If you can, you're set. If not, I must ask you to leave..."
Ianna watched quietly, patiently, and smiled
"Will you quit playing with her, Ianna! SHES THE BLOODY GUARDIAN!"
"I -know- that, Matilda. I'm not STUPID. But, You know the rules as well as I. She reads from the book or doesn't get her wand." Ianna seemed to be speaking to voices that weren't there again.
Ganty looked at the woman, she was smirking "What is she smirking about" she thought to herself and looked at the book, it was a old leather book, very large to. "And way would I read from a book if she wont even tell me what’s in the book" she started to wonder and looked again at the book. She stroked the book with one finger and it felt smooth, not ruff like most leather books. Something in here head was telling here to try to open the book, but she way unsure way she would do that.
She turned to the woman again and asked
"What's in the book? Way do you want me to read it?"
Ianna shrugged her shoulders. The minute Ganty had touched the book, the leather covers sprung open, pages flipping madly and causing dust to fly everywhere until it landed, as if turned by magic, on a specific page.
On this page rested a picture of the silvery moon wand which had been resting on the counter beside her. Under the picture in small print, though perfectly legible read:
"Moon. Wand ID 00000. A Soul has been trapped within the confines of the wand. Congratulations, you have become the next guardian to take on the task of raising it from infancy to greatness. We, Ianna and I, have the upmost faith in you to complete your task dutifully. Best of luck,
Matilda."
Ianna watched for Ganty's reaction as she leaned against the counter, the smirk never leaving her face. "Well? Got anything to say?"
After the book hade opened and Ganty just stood there for a few seconds, then she looked up at Ianna. "What...how...where...what just happened?" That was about the only thing she could bring out... "And ... and how is Matilda and what's this about a wand?! What is going on?" Here head started to feel light, she hade to sit down.
Ianna knew that the woman would react the way she did and simply smiled. "This wand." she indicated to the silver and moonstone based wand sitting beside her, "Houses a soul. One who died a miserable, horrible or wrongful death. It should not have happened. As a result of this, Matilda's spell....My daughter's spell...trapped her soul in the wand to give it a new chance."
Ianna paused and watched her before telling her Matilda's story, how she cast the spell, and that Ganty was the one chosen to be a parent to the child who would soon issue from the wand.
"So," She looked at the wand, it was very pretty nice silver with some kind of white crystal on the top "This wand houses a soul but...but why me? There are so many people out there that would do a much better job then me! I'm sure of it. And what will happen when this soul will come out of the wand? And where is your daughter now anyways?" She had so many questions she didn't know where to start. Was this really happening to her?
Ianna nodded her head a bit. "Nobody knows why a guardian is chosen, but they are. They're drawn here, and they don't know why. And the book can tell if you're supposed to be one." her fingers stroked down the spine of the large book, which gave a shudder of pleasure. "When the soul comes out, it will have 10 more stages of life. A Wisp, Baby Ghost, Human baby, toddler, kid, teenager, youth, adult, sorceress or sorcerer, and eventually, if they train, an Ancient. It's your job to act as if you were their parent.
Congratulations, Ms. Ganty. You're a mother."
"A mother?" Ganty blinked. She never really thought about being a mother and for sure not of a wand... "How long will it take for this wand to become a baby? And what should I do now with the wand? I have so many questions to ask you i don't know where to start! I never thought something like this would happen, are you sure something is in that wand? It looks like any normal wand" She looked at the wand again, every time she looks at is she feels warm inside. "Am I supposed to take it home now?"
Ianna chuckled at the barrage of questions. She was doing her best to be patient, but Matilda had been bugging her and reminding her to hurry up because she needed to go to Atlantis to receive the next wand.
"Yes, a mother. And I'm not sure how long it'll take your wand to evolve....This is the first wand found, other than my daughter's, and my daughter grew to ancient in two months...
They'll have an accelerated growth time..." Ianna paused and chuckled again. "But it won't be as fast as two months. Matilda changed that. I'm guessing...maybe a few months before the wand emerges through the first three stages and becomes a flesh and blood child." she looked to the wand and picked it up, handing it to Ganty. The moment she touched it, the tip would light up with a beautiful silver light. "It's awakened now. You can take it home."
Ganty looked at the wand when a beautiful silver light came from the tip of the wand "That's a long time" she responded "but I will do the best I can. Can I ever come back here and ask questions I might have later on when the wand is 'growing'?" She still couldn't really place the events that just happened, was this real? Can people's souls really but trapped inside a wand waiting for the perfect "mother or father" "I hope I can handle this" she looked again at Ianna. "I will do the best I can, I hoop to see you again one day"

Atlantis Come Home! Ianna sat quietly at her desk, as she always did, her head lodged in that large, weather-worn book. She seemed to be muttering to herself, yet another habit she had picked up, and pulling at her hair. It was obvious to anyone who walked in that the woman was frazzled beyond words, and seemed to belong in a crazy-home.
Silvery hair fell over her face, while matching eyes seemed to glare daggers at the pages until she pushed it away in disgust, the book slamming, as it almost always did, with a room-shaking thud. This, in turn, caused several boxes full of wands to pop from the shelves and crash to the floor.
"Damnit Matilda, I swear to you, if you make me go to the Atlantic ocean to find you a stupid wa--"
She stopped her speech suddenly and her face dropped. "I see." it seemed that she was talking to herself, and seemed very comfortable with that idea. "Fine fine, Atlantic ocean, but if ONE shark decides to ruin my hair..."
~*~
Ianna packed quietly for her trip, not that she had much to pack anyway. She lived most of her time at the dingy shop she had opened up to be her headquarters the moment she had taken the assignment from Matilda to be her go-fer. She sighed and paused her her activities.
"Atlantis. At-bloody-lantis. I thought It was just a myth!"
She seemed to go still, as if listening to some voice in her head again. "Yes, I realize I was wrong, your highness." she grumbled and plopped down. "What species is it going to be? Mermaid? Man? Silkie? Siren?" she pouted. "You're just mean."
Well, not even the lackie could know before it was awakened, she guessed.
"You may not like the fact you can't know, but the truth is..." Matilda hated the truth when it had to do with her. "I don't even know. Yet. I won't know until I can feel the wand."
Ianna sighed softly. "Yeah yeah...Okay. Am I going to be staying in a hotel? O-" once more, She was cut off and found herself in the middle of a dark. Dark. Ocean. At least Matilda remembered the oxygen this time. "I guess not." she muttered.
"Just find the damn wand, Ianna."
"Yes, Your highness." Ianna quipped, narrowing her eyes. "I could use some light, though."
Matilda thought a moment. Yes, light would be good. A few moments later, light flooded the entire area, revealing a large kingdom underwater. High towers of gold and silver loomed in the distance, indicating the intelligence of an extinct generation.
Ianna sighed as she moved closer to it, noticing that most of it was overrun and turned over. A great battle had taken place here...and this civilization had been lost for good. Or, for the most part. "It's....so...." she grasped for words.
"Beautiful? Haunting? Horrifyingly sad?" Matilda offered.
"All those things and more." Ianna agreed, reaching into the bag she had managed to grab before being transported and removing some gravity-boots. She decided it'd be easier to walk than swim. "Give me a minute to put these on." she muttered, holding onto some seaweed as she struggled to slip the shoes on over her already covered feet.
"Okay, lets go." she stood up, testing the sturdiness of walking on the ocean floor. Much better than swimming, she decided, as she began making her way to the gates of the City. They were locked.
"Ugh...A little help here, Matilda?"
"Uh huh, where would you be without me?"
"At home. Living a normal life."
"Where's the fun in that?" Matilda giggled and the gates swung open, sending sprays of bubbles every which way.
Ianna didn't bother answering, deciding to conserve the oxygen bubble which was around her head rather than waste her precious air by talking. She looked around quietly with those eyes, taking in the beauty and the destruction displayed so blantantly before her, and bit back a whimper. How many people had died...?
And which one was stuck in the wand?
~*~
It had taken her hours to find it, but she did. Lodged in the body of a decaying merman skeleton was a brightly jeweled trident. Seven beautiful sapphires glittered in the gold metal, which had a slight glow to it, letting her know it was what she was searching for. "Lovely." she murmured, deciding it was time to talk. "Now take me home."Atlantis Come Home! - Part Two Ianna seemed tired. Not only had she gone to find the Atlantis wand, Matilda had bothered her not three days later to find yet another wand. And she had had to go to JAPAN! At least it wasn't under the sea or to the moon this time. At least she actually had OXYGEN this time without half dying.
She was busily searching through the book of Life and Death, silver eyes glazed over as if she were just running through the motions. Which, mostly, she was. She could see no new wand sightings for a while, but then again, Matty rarely updated the damned book anyway.
Beside her lay two wands, or more so, a staff and a trident. Still wands, according to Matty...but Matty's definition of things was kind of skewed with her being in another realm and all. She wondered if any owner would come in today, and which wand they would take home.
She sighed a deep sigh and closed the book, which had a tendancy to slam shut and scatter papers and dust. "Stupid book." she muttered.
Eamane was wondering the streets again, she had a day off and had no idea what to do with herself. She definately appreciated Az taking the children but it left her wih nothing to do...which often ended up with more children in the house. You'd think the man would learn, but no.
The little elf pushed a strand of hair behind her pointed ear and peered up at the building her feet had stopped at. They had a habit of doing that. She made her way inside and blinked at the sudden change of light. A few moments later her sight adjusted and she looked around. The shop was tiny and sorta dark and dusty...but comfortable at the same time. "Hello?" her voice sounded loud in the stillness.
Ianna looked up from her work and coughed. A person. An...elf Person! Oooo! Maybe that was...She felt a mental kick from Matty.
"THAT is a guardian. I don't know which one though...I can't get a reading. You'll have to give her a test, or something..."
Ianna sighed. "I'm not stupid, Matty." the woman seemed to talk to herself. She looked over to Eamane again. "Hello! Welcome to Ghosts of the Past. Please come up to the desk...I've been expecting you..." she paused, waiting for Matilda to give her the name
"Eamane. That is your name, is it not?" she smiled almost too sweetly, as if she had a secret she just couldn't wait to share. "And close the door behind you...Matilda said you're going to let the cold out."
Eamane blinked again as a woman's head came into view and she offered a cheerful smile, which only wavered momentarily at the mention of her name and the person that was appearently invisible and silent.
She did as she was asked and closed the door. Her smile was a bit nervous though as she approached the stranger's desk. She kept her hands inside the sleeves of her kimono, "Yes, I am Eamane...but I'm afraid I do not know who you are" The elf bit her lip and looked at Ianna expectantly
Ianna gave a little laugh. "The name is Ianna Umbridge, M'lady." she spoke, bustling around some papers until she picked up the large leather bound book which looked as if it were several centuries old. Which is actually probably was...it looked as if it had that much dust on it, in either case.
"Aha! Found you." she murmured, tapping the cover. "Can I ask you to place your hands on this book please?"
The moment Eamane would touch it, the book would spring open, light up, and the pages would fly as if there were invisible winds brushing at the paper. It would then land on the page with a sketch of a beautifully made trident. Below that would be beautiful scrawl reading:
"Atlantis. Wand ID 00001. A Soul has been trapped within the confines of the wand. Congratulations, you have become the next guardian to take on the task of raising it from infancy to greatness. We, Ianna and I, have the upmost faith in you to complete your task dutifully. Best of luck,
Matilda."
Ianna almost clapped in delight. The selkie had found a home, eh? Goodie. Now only to find that Japanese thing a home. The silvery eyed and silvery haired woman gazed expectantly at Eamane for her reaction to what she saw and read.
Eamane giggled softly, it had been a few years since anyone had called her that. "Ianna," she repeated the name to lock it into her memory. For some reason she had a feeling it would be good thing to do. Suddenly presented with the book (or at least suddenly to her mind as she had been lost in her thoughts for a few moment) she seemed a bit dazed. But the instructions eventually intruded on her awarness and gently she lay a hand on the book cover.
She gaped as it opened and she looked at the pretty picture. "it's beautiful" she murmurred as her eyes moved to read the text. She felt a pit in her stomach. Oh this wasn't going to over well at home! Perhaps now Az wouldn't leave her free time to spend finding more babies, the thought made her happy and she giggled with delight. She did so love babies.
The giggling slightly annoyed Ianna...but then, Ianna wasn't used to giggling. She was used to the mad cackling in her head done by Matilda. Or the whining and begging. She was used to that too.
Oh, but the the Moon-Wand guardian's reaction was awesome. Why couldn't Eamane be more...freaked out by this? Ianna did so like freak outs.
Ianna reached over and grabbed at the Trident beside her, glittering with seven sapphires and dripping with seaweed she hadn't been able to pry off. It was even more beautiful in reality, it seemed, glittering with gold in the filtered light.
"Here's your baby." she murmured. The moment Eamane would touch the wand and take it into her hands, it would glow with a faint blue light, all the way down to the end of the wand from the very sharp tips. It was activated.
Now was Eamane's time to freak out a little, a very little mind you, elves were supposed to be dignified or something like that. She tilted her head to the side as she surveyed the trident, it looked very much like the picture but shinier! She reached out and clasped the long handle and almost dropped it as it began to glow. Eamane swore under her breath and tried to calm herself. "is it supposed to do that?" she asked
Ianna gave a slightly insane giggle and nodded her head. "Yes, it means that your baby just came to life and you're now responsible for it. It's your job to see that it doesn't die and emerges into a proper ghost. And then, it's your job to love it until it becomes flesh and blood."
Ianna shrugged. "Just need to basically make sure it doesn't get sucked up by a vacuum or something..."
Eamane nodded to show she understood. Her smile returned at the mention of vacume cleaners. "that sould be safe...we only have hardwood floors" she giggled again, a surprisingly girlish sound. She turned to leave and then paused as she slowed faced Ianna again "is it alright to come back here if I have questions or problems?"
Ianna was slightly surprised that the woman hadn't asked how a soul was trapped and why exactly she was chosen. The other woman had. Ianna just shrugged her shoulders and yawned lazily, taking a roster and writing in the name of the guardian and wand.
"Sure, but uh...Press this." she slid a sheet of paper over to her, written upon it was gold letters saying "Press Me". As soon as Eamane would, she was transported into a large room. As she entered the main lobby Via the portal connecting the shoppe and the headquarters, the first thing she would notice is the vast...largeness...of it. The high ceilings, edged with gold, the large chandeliers dripping with crystals, the smooth white tile-floors, colorful rugs, and beautiful paintings.
To the left was a large recreational area complete with a large flat-screen television, several rows of various games, movies, video game systems and books. There was a basket of toys in the corner, full of plushies, dolls, cards and various other objects which would appeal to most ages. Included in the area were several comfy looking couches and plush chairs just made for sitting, lounging or bouncing in. It seemed to be heaven on a fluffy carpet. It even had a foos-ball table and an air-hockey table....and for the slightly more food-minded GoTP, a mini fridge always full.
To the right was a large elaborate counter, which seemed to have a force-field of some sort around it, keeping anyone who was not Ianna or Matilda from going behind it. On the counter lay a roster with the names of all the Ghostly children and their guardians, and an appointment book.
From there, it branched off into halls with rows and rows of rooms. Some were storage, some were guest rooms, some were bathrooms, and one very large and ornate door to the end of the hall led to the gardens. "Welcome to Headquarters, Eamane. You're welcome here at any time."
Eamane was a care free soul, as long as she had someone to mother she didn't really ask to many question unless something out of the ordinary happened. Apparently a child coming from a wand didn't qualify as unusual at the moment.
She reached forward a bit more confident now and pressed the seal, when the room stopped moving she looked around curiously. She almost fell over. The little elf had been in many head quarters in her life but this was definately the strangest mode of transportation to get there. She looked at Ianna with wide eyes. "What's going on here?" she paused, her thoughts racing as she began to analize things. "How did you know my name down there...and how did that book now my name?" Her voice was quiet, almost as though the questions were aimed at herself.
Ianna nodded her head. "Well, dear. Matilda sees things....she's my daughter, you see. You can't see her though, she's not in this realm...but she's the one who cast the spell which trapped the selkie soul in that wand." she pointed to the trident.
"She knows who the guardians are supposed to be before they even know they're to be guardians. And you got here by a portal...there's an easier way to get here, which is a perma-portal drafted into a door that leads here and to the shoppe...but this is so much more fun!" she smirked. "At least, for the new ones. That's the only time you'll use the paper port."
Eamane nodded as though she understood, "Oh, I see" she grinned while secretly thinking the woman should probably see a doctor about the voices in her head. She was about to commment again when the rest of what Ianna said trickled into her mind "Selkie? What's a selkie?..." she almost sighed, this meant more research did it.
The elf craned her neck round the woman and nodded at the door. "got it...that will probably be more convienent though less fun." she giggled and shifted her grip on the wand.
Ianna groaned. Who didn't know what a Selkie was? She frowned a little bit and moved behind the counter, which was already strewn with papers and the like. Finding a book, she snapped it up and handed it out to the elf.
"A book all about Selkies. You'll need it. But the short version is they're a seal people who shed their skins to become human."
Eamane took the offered book with a smile "thank you, that will save me a trip to the library" She cocked her head to the side as Ianna gave her the summary and then nodded "well that doesn't sound to bad...do they often get trapped in wands when they die?"
Ianna shook her head. "No. There will only be one selkie spirit, ever." a smile. "There are hundreds of wands and hundreds of spirits that Matilda has trapped to give them another chance at life. You see, each soul trapped died a horrible or wrongful death. She wanted to give them another chance."
Eamane nodded her head in understanding as she glanced at the door. It really was time to be going, she had a dinner to make. The little elf inclined her head and gave Ianna a friendly smile "thank you for explaining things to me....I'm positive I'll be back soon" And with that she left...via the door this time.

A Japanese Fox Ianna Umbridge was grumpy. It had been days since she had returned from Atlantis, victorious in finding the lost wand in Atlantis which apparently held a Selkie spirit. She hadn't let Matilda rest until she had told her WHAT exactly it was.
And now, Matilda was summoning her again. That familiar little voice nagging at her mind, chipping away at her sanity...the little voice that belonged to her only child.
"Japan? I just got back from At-Bloody-Lantis and you want me to go to JAPAN?! ARE YOU KIDDING ME WOMAN!? I'm TIRED." she complained. She would do it, Matilda knew she would...even if she didn't want to, Ianna could rarely say no to the Ancient.
"Yes. Japan. A new spirit has awakened, and I believe it's a messenger of one of the Japanese gods. He's an impatient spirit, to say the least...at least at the moment. You need to go."
Ianna gave a small sigh and closed her eyes. "Let me get my pu--"
She was transported before she was able to finish her sentence. "rse....Damn it Matilda." she muttered, smack dab in the.....past?
"Where the ******** am I? Feudal Japan?"
Matilda laughed. "No, you're way in the boonies. The wand is somewhere here, buried in the rice fields."
"So...you want me to go tramping through some wet rice fields to find a wand...and probably have some angry Japanese guy come out screaming at me, in words I can't understand, and waving a large chopping knife?"
Matilda chuckled. "Pretty Much."
A sigh. "The things I do for you, woman." she muttered as she went searching, ruining her good boots to do so.
~*~
It didn't take her too long, the fox tail caught on something or another gave her a general tip off that it was what she was looking for. Last time she checked, the Japanese didn't exactly use fox-tail scare crows. "GOT IT!" she called, triumphantly.
At least she had oxygen this time. And was on land. That was good.
"Good job...." Matilda said. "You're getting better at this!"
With that, once more, Ianna was returned to the sanctity of her home.
Joy. A Japanese Fox Part Two Ianna seemed tired.
"Stupid book." she muttered.Patrick...patrick found himself being dragged into a shop. It shouldn't be anything new for the dark man, having two kids and a quasi-boyfriend (or so he liked to think) on his hands but still...it was his damn day off!
Damnit.
But here he was, letting himself be dragged around by his kiddlets, both of them giggling and smiling. It was a strange thing for them to do together and, god, did Patrick ever welcome the change.
"So where are we? And why are we here?" His voice was wary, glancing down at Iamel and Akuti.
Akuti just smiled that thousend watt smile and shrugged her cute little shoulders, "Because we can be, Daddy. That's the point!" She said this as if it was OBVIOUS to someone...well it wasn't! GEEZ.
She peered inside the store before hopping in, smiling again at Ianna. "Hi!" She chirruped, "Me an' my daddy an' Iamel are comin' inside! Hi!"
Sure, she was repeating herself...she was like five. It didn't bother her at all.Ianna looked up, silvery eyes glittering. There were children...there...weren't supposed to be children! Not...Oh dear. The wands! HER wands! Her shinies...her precious little...Her mouth hardened.
Ianna loved children, she did, but when they sounded as hyper as the little girl did...Heh. "Hello, Welcome to Ghosts of the Past...Please step inside and to the desk...close the door behind you.
"THATS ANOTHER GUARDIAN! You're just on a roll today, Ianna." Matty almost shouted in Ianna's ear. Ianna winced and hissed.
"Damnit and Damn you, miss I can forget where I'm talking into, prat. That's my EAR!" Ianna growled, seeming to talk to herself as she always did, and looked over to the dark man who entered with the two children. "Well?" Akuti....wilted. That's the only way to really describe it. Her little body just slumped and her eyes went from wide and happy to innocent to sad and...well, she looked like a kicked puppy.
Like a kicked puppy, she slunk back to her daddy and latched on to the pierced man. Ignoring Iamels self-satisfied little smirk.
"Ah--? Akuti, stop, Daddy's trying to--" he sighs, head shaking a little at the children grabbing and moving around him. With a growl, the thin man just hauled them up, both at once, one child under each arm.
Akuti looked deligted. Iamel? Pissed.
"...well what?" he blinked up at her curiously, eyebrows arched and him looking puzzled. "I'm no miss and I wasn't yelling into your ear, sweetheart. I was trying to get the kids to shut up."
"I wasn't--" Iamel interrupted, to be cut off by a quick glare.
"Hush." Glancing up to Ianna once more. "Sorry. What was that?"Ianna laughed. "I wasn't talking to you. I was talking to Matilda." Ianna said it as if it were the most normal thing in the world. Talking to a person who by all ordinary means, did not seem to be there.
"Come in, step to the book, touch it..." she fidgeted. She wondered exactly how this man, and the children, would react to the bright and glowy light that would emit from the very very old and dusty book. And the dust that would fly everywhere.
It would seem as if there was an invisible wind taking up all the pages and flipping them at once. Of course, the moment it stopped it landed on a beautiful looking sketch of a pole, a fox tail and feathers hanging off it with straps of leather, as well as some japanese writing down it.
Under the picture rested the words:
"Japan. Wand ID 00002. A Soul has been trapped within the confines of the wand. Congratulations, you have become the next guardian to take on the task of raising it from infancy to greatness. We, Ianna and I, have the upmost faith in you to complete your task dutifully. Best of luck,
Matilda." "...touch it?" His voice was wary but he put Akuti (the GOOD kid - unlike Iamel) down and moved slowly over to the leather bound book. A squirming Bird was still wriggling under his arm, whining and pushing, but Patrick ignored him.
If you let him whine a little bit, Iamel would eventually give up and wilt a little bit.
One bejewled finger reached out, hesitantly touching the leather. DUST! LIGHT! He yelped and hopped back (giving Iamel a light case of shakin'kiddie'syndrom) and stared - or gawked - at the pages.
"...A...A soul? Through infancy?" His voice was squeaky, dark eyes under the glasses jerking up to Ianna in shock and something like horror. "A-Another kid?"
"YAY! A sister!"
Patrick ignored her.Ianna cackled. THIS was so much better than the Elven woman's reaction. "Yes. Through infancy to ancient....if they so choose. I believe the particular wand you see there holds a god's messenger...a kitsune..I think." she blinked. Matilda hadn't told her all the details yet, she had just brought it back a day or two ago.
"Congratulations, Mister...urm..." she paused for a name, "You're a daddy. Again."
Reaching to her side she picked up a long beautifully carved ivory wand, dark lettered japanese letters spelling out a word she didn't know along the side of it. Bound at the top by strands of leather was a large fox tail, black and blue, and towards the bottom two black and blue feathers.
It was a beautiful wand, she had to admit. In fact, she was almost sad to see it go.
The moment he would touch it, however, it would glow...and grow slightly warm. "But...but...I -can't- have another kid!" He wailed, staring at the woman like she was sprouting another head, wilting a little bit himself. "I mean..I have THESE two monkies!"
But she wasn't going to help. And he was chosen, wasn't he? Yes... Yes he was. GodDAMNIT. "...Patrick." His voice is soft, staring at the woman even harder, eyes desperate and dark from under his glasses, "Patrick White.."
"Take it Daddy!" He could hear Akuti call from behind him. So...he did. Those wide eyes went even wider and under the pigment of his skin, you could see gray.
"...I..." Glancing up at her, looking helpless still. "A kitsune?" THAT brightened him up, even a little bit. "Like...a fox spirit? Inari?"
"Yeah, like you'd get a GOD. You already have me, you--" Akuti kicked him in the butt and he jumped, squeaking. And fell silent.Ianna found the three quite amusing and it showed on her face. Fingers reached up to brush her hair away from her features and yawned. "Yep. Fox spirit. I believe he was a messenger for Inari...but I could be wrong. Matilda hasn't told me everything yet."
"And I probably won't if you don't stop annoying me."
Ianna scowled. "Shut up, you. Let me handle this how I want to handle it." she was talking to herself again, so it seemed.
"And sorry, nothing I can do. I mean, you could let the poor thing die AGAIN...but..." he shrugged. "Seeing as you already have two kids, I doubt that you'd kill one...One who's already died such a horrible death..." She almost got a glare for that one and Patrick set Iamel down so he could carefully hold the wand in each hand. His eyes were wide, blinking and touhing the wand...then clearing his throat.
Face still ashen under the dark, he finally spoke once more, voice soft. "...what do I have to do then? What..I mean..is it going to go from wand to baby? Or a kid? How old? What's it going to look like?"
Now free, Iamel skirted back from the creepy lady and out the door. he didn't like the shop anymore, damnit. Patrick GRABBED him..grumble sulk.Ianna thought how to put it. "It's going to go from that wand, to a wisp of smoke, to a baby made of smoke, to a human...or in this case, kitsune-ish, infant...and then its' going to grow like a normal kid.
Your job is to make sure the ghost doesn't get sucked up by a vacuum...or a fan...or let out the window..or something." Ianna smiled insanely and giggled. "Oh it'll be so much fun. Unless it's like Matilda...then I'll feel sorry for you."
"b***h, you know you love me."
"Yes, I love you." Ianna said, once more, it seemed to be to herself. "Uh-oh...Daddy, don't tell Iamel about teh vaccum. Or the fan." Akutis voice was quiet, moving to cling to Patrick pants, peeking up at Ianna. "He'll try to vaccum it up! Or he'll make the mean bald boy do it."
She nodded fiercely, wise beyond her years, and thus pressed her cheek against her faces thigh. "So just keep it in your room or somethin'... Don't let Iamel vacuum it up!"
Patrick winced at that and nodded, glancing down at his daughter. "Good point, Akuti.." His voice was quiet, moving to ruffle her hair gently, glancing back at ianna. "...alright. Uhm." A pause, and a frown. "...thank you, I guess? Do I owe you anything or do I just take the wand and..flee for my life before I pick up another kid?"Ianna gave a nod of her head. "You don't owe me anything except that child's life. It chose you, after all." She smiled a little and gave a little yawn. "But before you go...press this"
She slid a sheet of paper over to her, written upon it was gold letters saying "Press Me". As soon as Patrick would, he, Akuti, and even Iamel, were transported into a large room. As they entered the main lobby Via the portal connecting the shoppe and the headquarters, the first thing they would notice is the vast...largeness...of it.
"Welcome to Headquarters, Patrick White. You're welcome here at any time."
"GAAAAAH!" Sure, Patrick screamed even though no one was getting hurt and nothing bad was happening to them. The poor boy was freaking. the. ********. out. This is NOT something you spring on a guy like him - he screamed like a girl when he first saw Iamel!
And he loves Iamel!!
"What the ********?!" He shrieked out, clutching the wand to his chest, eyes showing the whites around them, frame trembling. "Where the ******** - what the hell is going on?!"
Sure...he's welcome but.... "H-how do I get here without th-that button thing?"
"Foos-ball!" Iamel cried triumphantly, having seen the game on a popular sitcom. The winged boy raced over, small hands wrapping around the toy and grinning from ear to ear, twisting teh little toys. "Whoo!"Ianna watched the bird boy and laughed, then looked at Patrick with an amused glance. "There's a portal in the back of the shoppe that acts the same way as this little sheet of paper. The little sheet of paper is to freak you out the first time."
Ianna giggled. "I need my amusement -somehow-......I mean, I can't spend all my time reading or chasing wands."
"I..." He tapered off, eyes on his son playing foos-ball against Akuti (and kicking her a**, frankly), eyebrows wrinkling together. "..ok." Voice small still, turning to look at Ianna with that same helpless, doe-eyed look.
"...so how do we leave? I kinda want to leave. Leaving and getting a little drunk might do me some good right now." His voice is serious, chewing on his lower lip. "...I kinda wanna leave."Ianna rolled her eyes. This man was a pansy. "The door." she said simply, pointing to one of the large, ornate doors to the center of the room, beside the counter. "You simply walk out and it should take you back to the shop. Same door you come through in the portal."
She raised a brow at him. "Your kids look like they're having fun though." Upon seeing an exit wasn't so far away, Patrick just let out a relieved sigh, glancing down at the wand he still slutched in his hands. "..I'm fine." His voice is soft, fingers sliding over the asian writing gently.
he couldn't read it...damnit..
Lips pursed, he looked back to the kids and how well they were playing..so he grumped, sliding on hand through his hair. "When does the kid become a kid anyway? Instead of a wand?"Ianna shrugged. "It's different for all of them, I think. We only have found homes for two others, and they're still in wand form." she smiled a bit. "They tend to grow faster than normal kids though....my daughter grew to ancient in a matter of two or three months...but she was a special case. She's the one who cast the spell." She sighed. "That's Matilda, by the way."Matty's voice filled Patrick's head. "Hello there, Patrick." His eyes went wide at the noise - the words - inside of his head. It was a female voice and she sounded confident... Ianna had been talking in her head, and she said her name was, "Hello, Matilda."
PAtricks voice was still quiet, fingers stroking over the wand gently.Ianna gave a yawn. "Hey kids!" she called to them, "You guys hungry?" Ianna was actually having a pretty good time watching everyone's reactions. But she was tired. Soooo tired....
"There's a mini fridge over to the side." eyes turned over to Patrick. "How're you taking it?" "My crickets are at home!" Iamel called out, abruptly ending his game to turn to Patrick and Ianna. "I want to go home." His voice had gotten flatter, eyes now on Patrick. He wanted to go home.
Now.
Patrick HAd to know better then to say no.
The darker man nodded distractedly, glancing to Ianna. "I'm fine." Frowning a little bit as Akuti came 'galloping' over, taking her daddys hand in her own cheerfuly. "We should probably leave.."Ianna watched them and yawned. "Okay then. I need a nap anyway. Show yourselves out." With that, Ianna walked over to one of the large, plush couches and dropped down. "Oh, kid." she tossed a coin at Iamel. "You're a woodpecker right?" birds were a fetish of hers. "You like shiny things? There ya go." she yawned and snuggled into her couch again.
"Night! And please lock up the shop before you leave." Iamel paused when she called out to him, a frown on his lips and twisting to face her. Just as he was about to give her a sharp retort, she tossed a shiny little coin to him.
Eyes widened and his hand shot out, hand closing in on the coin and clutching it to his chest. Shiny! Money! SHINY! So instead of snapping out something rude, he just scowled, "Thank you."
His voice was a soft mutter as he raced out after his 'family'. It was Shiny! Oh yes it was!

A Rebellious Sidhe - Part One
Matilda sat, quite wearily, at her desk. Her silver eyes were staring at a piece of parchment charting all the wands she had seen in her visions. The wands which had souls trapped in them and were just waiting to be awoken.
And then she felt a sharp pain in the center of her stomach which seemed to envelop her entire body. Eyes snapped shut in an attempt to lose herself and quell the pain she felt every time a wand was ready to be found....for truely, with her spell, a small piece of her own soul was ripped apart from her each time she gave new life.
Something could not be given without something being taken. The universe did not work that way...and So Matilda gave herself each time to allow the others a second chance.
But Matilda knew this when she cast, and so made no sound of concious pain as the pain faded and she was left with a small emptiness. "Time to tell Ianna." she murmured, preparing herself to speak through the bond they shared.
And then she stopped. Something...was not right. Another shift inside of her, though not of the painful variety...The wand was....evolving?! How...How could that be...It...Matilda shook her head. It didn't make any sense!
But she knew she had to get to the wand's site as quickly as possible to save the little thing from being permanantly disfigured....which meant she would have to leave the safety of her pocket realm.
Oh boy. Matilda didn't like that at all. "Oh what I do for my children." she said softly and stood up, taking a deep breath and looking to the wall across from her. A wall she fondly referred to as her 'portal wall'...the one thing in the realm which wasn't warded to hell and back to allow her to open the portal which would bring her into her mother's world.
"Oh well, here we go." she concentrated, hearing a loud buzzing in her ears and a warmth engulf her, zapping at her strength and energy as she slowly opened a rip between the worlds, leaving a gaping black hole in her living room.
This, however, didn't seem to phase the woman as she grabbed her shawl, wrapped it around her shoulders, and walked through it into the next realm...To Ireland she went!
~*~
It was a simple enough zap to Ireland, but finding where the Sidhe child resided was far more complex. Ireland, while not the LARGEST place in the world, had a lot of hills. And hills...well, that's where Sidhe resided...if she had her mythology correct, anyway. Opening the portal had greatly weakened the Ancient, however, and she had to sit and rest a while.
As she sat down on the hill, she tried to sense where the little wisp would be...but she couldn't sense a wisp...or a wand....but she did sense...a baby? How could that even be possible? A Wand didn't go from wand to BABY....Unless....Oh s**t!
Matilda was on her feet in an instant, forgetting her need to rest. A baby was in even MORE danger than a wisp or baby ghost! A baby could actually be touched! Or...or DIE!...Matilda was worried now.
The Ancient decided despite her energy levels being low, she had to find that child right away. The question of who to be guardian hadn't come to her yet, only the wand could rightfully choose a guardian, but she wasn't a wand anymore. So...Well, that was bad. However, that was not the most pressing matter. She would not have a piece of her soul die in vain!
Silvery eyes closed, tears streaming down her cheeks, a soft glow emitting from her fingertips and seeming to stretch out for miles...it was almost as if they were metal detectors...which they were, in a sense. Only they didn't detect metal, only past spirits.
A pull in her stomach let her know that she hadn't far to look...The Sidhe resided in the hill beneath her.
How to get her out without the other Sidhe making a fuss about it, however, was a different story.
Well...Sooner the better!
~*~
Matilda transported herself underground, knowing full well there was a door to enter the underground city...She wouldn't risk being attacked by the Sidhe guards...
Even after all these hundreds of years, the Sidhe still existed...though in scarcity. And the Sidhe which still lived were very protective over their own. Even if their own wasn't quite their own.
Quick-silver eyes were on alert as she walked through the corridors, the dim lit hall ways causing her a small headache...but the woman had a mission and Matilda Dayleon never gave up! Ever.
She searched for hours, coming across few guards...but being able to talk them into letting her pass, she had little trouble getting as far as she did. She was beginning to lose faith, though....She couldn't feel the little life anymore. Had they killed her for being tainted? Was she hurt? Was sh--
Another pull in her stomach told her she was getting close to the child, and she was still alive. Matilda gave a soft sigh of relief and started running in the general direction, pausing as she saw a tiny hand flailing in the distance and heard the gentle cooing of the child.
Amazingly, the Sidhe hadn't found her yet. Perhaps this would be far easier than she thought! Just at that moment, a Sidhe guard bent down and picked up the little girl.
Just her luck. "Hey! That's my daughter I'm so sorry...but she transported herself he...." she trailed off as she received what appeared to be a death glare. Sidhe could tell when someone was lying.
Great.
"You're a very bad liar, Miss." the guard said in the old tongue, an amused smile blooming on his lips. Perhaps it was the way she was dressed, her tiara and all, that stopped him from capturing her. She looked regal...royal...noble. And the Sidhe favored those of rich lineage.
"I realize this, but that child really is important to me." her words were true. It held a piece of her soul, "And she really is my daughter." that much was true as well. Perhaps not by blood, but they shared a shard of soul. That had to mean something, didn't it?
The guard eyed her and nodded, handing the quiet little girl to the woman in the white dress. "You aren't lying when you say she is your daughter." once more, he spoke in the old tongue, "But you are not telling the entire truth as well. So we can do this the easy way, or the hard way."
Matilda gulped. Those words were never good.
"The easy way, is you tell me the entire story of why she's so important to you. Your reason isn't simply because it's your daughter, and you and I both know that. The hard way is, I take you to our King. Unfortunately, our King has been in a very bad mood lately."
Matilda stared at the man. Should she tell him? Or speak to the king....The king may be able to assist her in all Ireland related souls but...If he was in a bad mood...Oh what should she do? Her obvious indecision showed in her eyes, and the guard smiled again.
"You are contemplating it, are you not? I suggest simply explaining to me."
Matty sighed. "Very well...." and begun her long explanation...that not even Ianna had heard before.
A good hour or two later, the Guard nodded his head. "Aye, well it makes sense to some extent, though why you would give your soul for others is beyond me."
Matilda looked troubled. "It's not a matter of giving my soul for others. It's a matter of life and death. For the world. For you and for myself...and for human kind as a whole. Without these children coming into being yet again, after being killed for not being understood...or wrongfully, for who or what they were...Don't you understand? With human guardians....." she trailed off.
The Guard seemed to understand then and placed a hand on her shoulder. "You breed acceptance, slowly, is that right?"
Matilda nodded her head. "Yes, Acceptance and a realization that they're not all that different. You die because humans do not believe in you. We fade, the old ways fade...and we die because of neglect, fear, or disbelief. So many of our kind have died so the humans could feel superior. Feel safe. I would be willing to give my soul to see that we could once more live in that harmony we all seek."
Once more, the Guard nodded. "Tis a noble thing, M'lady Dayleon." he said, looking at her with a new respect. "I wish you the best, and you have free passage out of here."
Matilda looked at the little girl who was now sleeping and suddenly knew who would be guardian to the Sidhe. "Thank you, sir." she said and promptly popped herself into the headquarters.
~End Part One~
A Rebellious Sidhe - Part Two
Ianna was lounging in the head quarters, reading a book. Matilda hadn't bothered her at all about the wands. In fact, she hadn't heard from her daughter in some days, which was quite odd. Matty was always bugging her about something....It almost worried Ianna.
Until she remembered that Matty could take care of herself and didn't need her anymore. That thought was just slightly better than her dying. Ianna had only been a passing need in the woman's life, and now she was just a tool to find wands.
Hell, the owners of said wands hadn't even come in to visit her. Sure, she may be crazy, but she was still a person.
And she missed her shiny wands.
And the owner was now bringing the wand in to see her! Or something like that. PAtrick was on edge with Iamel missing - the kid hadn't come back but he was going to go check out the Birdcage after this current voyage. That's where Iamel had run the last time he skirted off - to the Birdcage - and that's where patrick had found him, clinging to Shanuh.
Hopefully he had run to the same place. For all Patrick knew, he could have tried to find Diacyn or something and didn't and is freezing to death...the thought made him shudder, even as he peered inside of the headquarters.
He cleared his throat lightly before stepping inside, chewing on his lower lip.
"Ma'am?"
Ianna snapped out of her thought process and put her book down, looking over at the dark man. Immediately, she could tell that the man was troubled.
"Come in, come in..." she murmured, standing up and smoothing out her pants and shirt. The woman damned near looked as if she never changed her clothes. Which she really didn't. Amazingly, she didn't smell.
"Is there something wrong?"
"Nothing with the wand, no.." His voice was soft, still a mutter and he let his head shake a little. Patrick wore a new outfit every day - it was doubtful he's ever worn something more then twice. H ewas a spoiled mamas boy, really, to the core. "I was just wondering..."
A hesitiation, glancing down tot he smooth ivory thing in his hand, lips quirking into a frown, "About the gender.. I mean.. will it be a boy or a girl? How can you tell? And..uhm..how long will it take to be something other then a wand or that wisp you were talking about?"
Ianna nodded her head. "You won't know until it's born. I don't think even Matilda knows the gender until it's born..." she smiled a little bit. "And it'll only emerge when it's felt as though you accept it, and are ready to take the next step. It won't be born until it's ready."
She paused and sighed. "And I wasn't asking about the wand, you have a downed energy about you. And something's wrong."
He sighed softly, staring down at the wand with something like frustration. What could he do to 'accept' the wand? It was...a wand. Hell, Iamel didn't..
...Iamel.
The thought of his son sent his thin shoulders slumping, running a hand over his hair with a faint scowl, head shaking. "My kid..he's super possesive and when he found out someone else was moving in - he doesn't even really get the wand part yet - he freaked out. Ran off."
Another frown, eyes going back down to the wand with a sigh. "...I don't know where he is. I tried looking for him but...the kid's slippery. I think he's at the Birdcage. I'm hoping he's at the birdcage."
Ianna frowned. "If I could get ahold of my daughter I could have her 'see' for you...But I'm afraid I'm in much the same boat. I haven't heard from her in...a week now." her eyebrows furrowed. "But she's an adult, so I guess the situation is slightly different."
She sighed. "I can try to look for him using my crystals, if it would put you at ease..."
Ianna really wasn't a bad person. She may be a little frazzled and sometimes sarcastic, rude, or vulgar, but she had a good heart. The stress of her jobs kind of made her a mad woman most of the time though, and talking to 'herself' never really helped.
Already the woman with the frazzled silver hair was moving towards the counter where the book of Life and Death lay, and the roster, appointment book, and various other objects cluttered. She hopped over the wood and leaned slightly against the counter thinking. "If you want."
" 'See'?" He replied, eyebrows knitted together. Patrick was skeptical of magic (although he didn't freak out like Modread did) but..he believed in it. Enough, anyway. "...I... please?"
There was helplessness in his tone, looking at her and needing her help. He wasn't any good at parenting. Whoever thought it was wise to give THIS guy a crapload of kids was a bad person. Fingers continued to rub the wand slightly in his nervousness, the little thing of ivory being worried in his grip.
Sadly, when Ianna went to go look, she wouldn't be able to see the little copper-headed woodpecker. What she WOULD be able to see, though, was a lot of snow. A WHOLE BUNCH of white stuff, twisting and soaring, maybe a flash of gold here and there...but no Iamel.
Iamel was in the snow. SOmewhere in the city. Somewhere near the university.
Ianna pulled out her crystal and looked into it, concentrating until the clear glass started to glow a soft red color, and then fill with images only she could see.
"He's somewhere where there's a lot of snow.." she murmured. "I'm guessing he's in it...and I see...a school...?" she murmured yet again before the crystal stopped its glowing and she was left with a mighty headache.
She didn't have much magic, but when she did use it, it often drained her quite a bit. Needless to say, she didn't use it often. She had only recieved this particular gift from her daughter, and it was recent.
"I should say he's fine, though. If he weren't, I would have been able to tell. Does he know anyone who likes snow? That could be another thing." she blinked her silvery eyes and lifted a hand beneath her glasses to rub at them. God, she was seeing spots.
"He has a friend who's addicted to snow and cold s**t but he doesn't know where he lives.." Patrick frowns, moving over to the woman worriedly. "Did that hurt you..? I'm sorry! Do you need a glass of water or something?"
See? He didn't worry -only- about Mordread or iamel. Patrick had a deep-seeded desire to please everyone. All the time. To make people cofortable and happy, etc.
Ianna shook her head a little bit, sitting on the stool that had been placed behind the counter. "No, no, it didn't hurt me. It just took some energy to do it. I'm not naturally magically gifted, you see. I have certain abilities only because of my daughter. Who came from a wand much like the one you have there."
In fact, she had the wand. Matilda had grown past the need of wand, and could control things with her hand and mind. She reached down and picked up a beautifully crafted silver wand with a blue crystal, round and glowing, at the top. "She grew up too fast for my liking though. She's an Ancient now. She's the one who trapped the soul into that wand, and into all the wands.
There are two others, beside you, who hold wands and were trusted with guardianship. You'll meet them eventually. But there will be many more as well." she murmured. She had gone off on a tangent, but she often did that. People who were around her had to get used to it sooner or later.
As the guardians would be spending a lot of time in the headquarters with their children. The children would be almost pulled here, for the most part. It would feel like home.
Of course, the big tv and the other things didn't exactly discourage them.
"Anyway, back to your son. He's probably with his friend."
"s**t, I hope not.." He frowned a little, head shaking once more. "That little owl is going to rip my EYES out if Iamel went to him crying and cold. But I hope he's okay.." Voice softening, glancing up at Ianna, lips quirkinginto a faint grin.
"So we're all going to have these fast-growing kids that we'll utterly adore and they'll end up being all powerful and amazing?" His nose crinkles, glancing down to the wand in his hand. "...so when I hit thirty, this kid'll be grown?"
Ianna thought a moment. "It's possible." she said. "The children grow at their own pace, nothing will be same with any of them." she smiled and gave a small tiring yawn. "But yes, for the most part, they grow pretty quickly. Matty reached Ancient in two months..." her voice had a small twinge of sadness to it.
She missed her adorable little girl.
"Oh." His voice is quiet, chewing at his lower lip softly, staring down at the wand and squinting a little bit. "I don't want it to grow THAT fast..I like kids and Mordread would be sad if it grew up that fast..."
Another nod, chewing at his pierced lip before looking back at her, "You said she had magic powers? Something like that? I...Will this kid have that? I mean...magic? Y'know?" More blinking, head ducking slightly. "Sorry if I'm asking too many questions just...the first two were thrust on me. I didn't know a damn thing and.." A shrug, "I don't want to scream like a girl this time."
Ianna looked at Patrick and smiled. "It won't grow that fast. Matilda was very special. She saw what her growing up so fast did to me, and she slowed the process down completely...It'll be far longer than a year, even three or ten, before your child leaves your home."
She paused. "Yes, Matty has powers, and so will your Kitsune child. Powers will be based on what they were in their previous existance. Since he was a kitsune, and I believe, a messenger for Inari, he should be magically inclined. All children from the wands are.
You see, the spell cast by Matilda only captured magical creatures and people who died a horrible, unjust, or wrongful death. Something that should not have happened and caused great suffering.
But...none of us know how they died until they go into the past as a teenager. Matty may know, but if she does, she doesn't tell me. Do you understand?"
"Oh...I guess that's good then.." His voice was soft, fingers still petting over the kitsune childs wand, nose wrinkling softly. "I suppose that's good.." Nodding distantly before glancing up.
A horribe, unjust and wrongful death? And they'd find out when they were hitting puberty and had all those hormones and..oh dear lord. "This is going to be fun," His voice is soft, a slight mutter, shaking his head with a sigh. "Yeah... I understand. it's just..it's sad. No kid should have to find out all that gory s**t when they're hitting puberty. What if they get depressed or something?"
Ianna thought about it and sighed. "They most likely will. But Matty had a reason for doing it the way she did. You'd have to talk to her to find out the reasoning, and she may not even tell you."
She looked around the room. "She doesn't tell me anything much, really, except where the wands are and very scant details. She also warns me when a guardian enters the shop so I can be as pleasant as possible." she smiled a bit. "And not look so mad as to scare them off..."
As she trailed off, a light filled the room and a woman with long, light blue hair and silver eyes entered the room. She was quite beautiful, almost looking like a goddess bathed in all that light and a long white dress, silver embroidered into a swirl around her body...which was quite...perfect, to say the least. She looked young, too, not older than twenty five.
"You're talking about me, mother?" she asked, a smile on her lips as she walked - no, GLIDED, to the counter and leaned against it.
"Really, don't you know that's rude?"
Ianna stared, dumbfounded before rage touched her silver eyes. "WHERE THE BLOODY ******** HAVE YOU BEEN?!"
Patricks eyebrows went up at the sudden appearance of the odd woman, looking rather unimpressed. Sure...the girl was cute enough but...she wasn't Mordread.
"This is Matilda?" Patrick tilted his head to the side, giving the other a brief one over before palming his wand into his left hand. The right hand was extended for a polite handshake. "I'm Patrick. Uh..the fox things gaurdian, I guess."
Matilda and Ianna stopped their bickering enough for Matilda to give him a polite nod of her head. "I know who you are." she said before going back to the screaming match she had with her mother.
Ianna looked about ready to cry as she screamed. "ENOUGH!" and Matilda went silent. She may be all powerful, but Ianna was STILL her mother.
"You had me worried. You may be an adult, hell, an ancient, but you're STILL my daughter and I DONT LIKE TO WORRY!" Ianna sniffled and Matilda hugged her.
"Sorry, Ianna." she said softly and sighed. "I had business...But I think you'll like the business I took." she moved over to the couch and picked up a small child, wrapped in a soft white blanket and handed her to her mother.
"One of the wands went haywire and this little girl decided to make her appearance and skip all stages straight to infancy. Since we have no guardian for her, and I know how much you miss having a baby around...."
Ianna immediately burst into tears, grabbing at the little girl and holding her to her chest. The child gave a gurgle of protest and thrashed about wildly in her arms but slowly settled down and sucked at her thumb. "Oh she's precious...."
It seemed Patrick had been forgotten for the moment.
Patrick didn't mind being forgotten; this was an interesting play in parent/child relationships. So he just stood there, eyebrows arched, lame (compared to a baby. <3) little wand in his hands while they cried and cuddled and the baby wriggled and...
"She's cute."
There came his low voice again, interrupting the peace, giving them both a little crooked grin. "Should I leave you two alone? Because if myself and little reborn Inari here are gonna interrupt something, I can go hunt down Iamel.."
Ianna suddenly remembered Patrick's presence and giggled softly. "Oh nono, it's fine." she said, cooing at the child again. "This is what you'll get when your wand evolves enough." she smiled and turned to Matilda.
"What is she?"
Matilda rolled her eyes at the emotional state. "She's one of the Irish Sidhe..." she looked at the baby. "She had a particularly horrible death..." she sighed and looked over to Patrick. "I hope you're up for the challenge, Mister White."
"...I don't think I am." He blinked a little bit, eyes on the two women. Them and their emotional states made him glad that he was a gay guy. He didn't know if he could handle water works like that on a day to day basis.
"I mean... I've never raised a kid before. My son hates me! I mean--" He started to breath a little harder, Matildas words making the poor boy freak out, "What if ALL my kids start to hate me?! What if I'm HATEABLE?!"
Matilda had kept her composure perfectly and she moved to sit on one of the couches, crossing her legs. "Your son doesn't hate you, he's upset. And jealous. Your children wont hate you, either. They love you. Even the wand baby will love you very much."
She paused. "And Mordread, that's your lover's name right?" she paused again. "He'll grow to love you too. But be careful, he'll want kids. And he'll want a way to get them too. Naturally. Biologically." she smirked, watching for his reaction.
Ianna was too busy cooing to Coailiann.
He wasn't freaking out over that - he wouldn't mind having spawn with Mordread. At that comment, he just blinked and shrugged, "Only way for that to happen is like...the GMFC. Fat chance of that ever happening."
Patrick snorted, looking back down to his wand and let himself pet it gently. Somehow, the soft action let him feel...connected to the baby somehow.
"...I like kids. I like helping people. I just...I don't want to ******** up."
Matty shook her head. "You won't. I see that, and I see that you're a good person who loves his kids. Your kitsune obviously trusts you, or they wouldn't have chosen you."
She looked over to her mother. "She looks incredibly too happy."
"Some people are natural born parents." His eyes were on Ianna, shrugging slightly and sighing, poking the wand back into it's place in his sleeve, where it liked to 'settle'.
"I don't happen to be one of them but...some people are. Mordread is."
Matty giggled a bit. "Yes, well..Mordread will help you. He cares about you, and he cares about your daughter too. He'll care for your other children too." she gave a little sigh and took a deep breath. Being outside her own realm was a bit taxing.
Eamane shifted the grip she had around the little boy in her arms. She'd gotten Gael to watch Tirio but Ayu was a bit young to leave with teen and so she'd brought him along on her shopping trip. It wasn't long until she found herself in front of the GotP head quarters. Perhaps a short visit wouldn't be a bad thing. She kissed the tussled hair of her unicorn baby and wandered up the path to the door she remembered.
Voices came from inside and the little elf almost shyed away. Silly anti social she scolded herself and pushed the door open "Hello?"
Patrick turned when he heard Eamane come in, eyebrows arching up a little bit. "Mordread is going to go baby-crazy. I fear for my life."
He grins, hopping back and frowning. "I should go and look for Iamel...Diacyn might've eaten him or something."
As Eamane entered the shop, she would notice that nobody was in the actual wand shop. Everyone seemed to be in the actual headquarters part, and if she wanted to see everyone else, she would have to find the open portal in the back door and walk through. IT would just be like walking through a normal door, however, no dizziness as with the paper portal.
Matilda looked to Patrick. "Go find your son, but I assure you he's fine"
"I have to find him anyway." He smiled blithly, glancing back to the two women. "Thank you both very much." Voice soft, skirting past them and out the door, glancing at Eamane as he hurried out.
It was empty but the voices were louder. She giggled, her big ears had probably picked up the noise from outside before most people could. She shook her head and peered around trying to find the portal Ianna had told her about. Ah ther it was. She pushed that door open and found herself in the room she had been in before but she didn't feel like falling over this time.
She looked at the everyone and gave them a slightly shy smile "hello" she held Ayumi closer to her.
Ianna gave a small wave of her hand, though she was clutching a beautiful baby girl in her arms now, and Matilda looked rather tired laying on the couch. Ianna smiled and dragged her face away from the little girl in her arms to notice Eamane and also notice that Patrick was gone.
Hmm, where did that man go? She shrugged. "Hello, Eamane, how's the wand?" she looked back to the bundle in her arms, a few happy gurgles being heard.
Eamane watched Patrick leave and then turned back to Ianna and the strange girl, she looked tired. Shaking her head to clear it of absent thoughts the elf wandered over to Ianna
"It's fine" she patted the wand stuck in her belt "and the book was very helpful for l-" she broke off as she caught sight of the adorable little girl. "uwah! how sweet!"
Ianna smiled brightly. "Matilda found her, she skipped from wand to baby...rebellious little Sidhe she is..." she giggled and tickled the child, the little girl cooing and flailing helplessly.
"She's beautiful, I've decided to name her Coailiann...It means White in Gaelic, I believe...And you're welcome for the book."

The Naga Awakens - Part One
WAAAAA!!!! WAAAAAA!!!!!! Coailiann hadn't stopped crying for the past hour, and Ianna was slowly going insane. The tiny Sidhe child was currently in her rocking arms, tiny arms flailing about in an unintentional attempt of making her mother go crazy. And it was working.
"Oh, Kay..." Ianna murmured, bouncing a little to calm the infant down, though it was to no avail. She had tried the gardens, she had tried singing, she had tried rocking, she had tried rubbing, feeding, changing...But the little girl would not be calmed!
"You know, I left a harp there for a reason, mother. The little girl likes harp music."
The voice entered her head, temporarily blocking out the wailing of her daughter, much to Ianna's pleasure. She didn't even mind the snarky tone. "I can't play the bloody harp."
"I suggest you learn. But no time for that. Another wand has awoken, Ianna. It's in India. You need to go straight away."
Ianna blinked. "India? Can you not HEAR Kay crying, Matty?"
"Oh must I do everything?" there was a huff in her head and the harp started playing on its own, instantly placating the little girl who slipped into a slumber, thumb stuck, in the most adorable fashion, in her mouth.
"Thanks. Now...India..? Who is going to watch Coailiann?"
Matilda almost smirked. "Me. Send her through the portal, Mother. She'll be perfectly sa--"
"There is NO WAY IN HELL I am letting Kay go there with you! You can't handle children! What if--"
Ianna was cut off by a low snarl. "Kay is my sister, and I am perfectly capable of handling an infant. Now send her over or I transport her myself."
Ianna grumbled and stumbled to the tiny doorway which was just Coailiann's size and slid her in, watching the hands take her. "There. Be careful and be su--."
Once more, she was cut off. "I'll be fine. Now, off you go!"
"Okay bu-" Ianna found herself smack dab in the middle of an Indian jungle.
"AHH!....Jungle....YOU WANT ME TO FIND A BLOODY WAND IN A JUNGLE?!" Ianna paused. "AN INDIAN JUNGLE?! WITH SNAKES?! AND AND AND..." she took a deep breath. "Snakes..." Ianna hated snakes.
"Yes." came the response, followed by what Ianna could only make out as baby talk towards her other daughter. A sigh. First the moon, then Atlantis...then Japan and now snakes.
Ianna had a feeling Matilda was trying to kill her.
~*~
An hour later, Ianna was stalking through the Jungle, keen silver eyes looking about frantically to find the wand as soon as possible. Already she had come into much too close of contact with several very very long snakes. That looked as if they wanted Ianna for breakfast. Or dinner. Whatever time it was now.
It was getting dark and Ianna, jungles, snakes and darkness did not mix well. Especially when she was looking for something. It was quite impossible to find things in the dark.
It was the dark, after all.
Ianna gave an exhasperated sigh and closed her eyes, only for a moment. "Matilda, I can't find the wand anywhere."
Matilda's voice didn't come into her head for a good moment. "Oh, sorry, wasn't paying attention. Kay was playing with...Wait, you can't find the wand?"
Ianna growled. What was Coailiann playing with? "No. I can't find it and it's getting dark. Matty, maybe one of the snakes ate it or something."
Matilda laughed. "I don't think so. You're just not looking hard enough. You're staying there until you find the wand, and that's that. You know what this thing entailed when you agreed."
Ianna hissed. "It was only because I love you that I agreed, I'm not going to risk my bloody life in the darkness for a wa--"
A hiss from the right stopped her mid sentence and she turned, quickly, to see one of the largest cobras she'd ever seen. "MATTY!!!!"
Matilda didn't seem too concerned. "It's got the wand." she murmured.
Ianna looked wide-eyed at the snake and saw that it indeed had a wand wrapped tightly in its coils. And wrapped around the wand was a very life-like looking snake as well.
Ianna looked positively frightened. "What am I supposed to do?!"
Matty huffed, "Why, get the wand from him, idiot."
Ianna was silent for a long time. "Get...a wand...from a very poisonous...cobra...in India...You're trying to kill me, aren't you?!"
Matilda didn't answer, and Ianna wanted to cry as she inched forward to the snake, carefully. The snake didn't like her being close, and lashed out, baring its large fangs, one of them scratching at Ianna's arm.
Ianna screamed and cursed as she snatched the wand, feeling the Cobra's fangs sink into her arm and inject her with the poison. As soon as her fingers wrapped around the wand, however, she and the wand were transported back to Headquarters.
Ianna's arm was swollen and bleeding heavily by the time she landed in the couch, and tears of pain and anger were in her eyes. She was already having the hardest time breathing due to the toxin's effects, and she felt her arm was unable to move. Paralysis had set in.
Matilda was finally seeming a little worried. Cobra bites could kill within minutes...and she didn't have much time...
~*~
Matilda decided she had to leave her realm again, opened the portal with some difficulty, and landed beside her mother. "You should have been careful." Matilda said in a soft voice as she knelt down. Coailiann was all but forgotten in the other realm as Matilda's hands touched her mother's arm, a warm glow emitting and a deep pain entering her as she sucked the poison into herself. She was immune to most poisons, and natural ones such as this did nothing to her. But it still stung like a b***h.
Feeling just a bit drained, she finished her mother's arm off by bandaging it. "You wont have use of that arm for at least a week while it heals." Matty murmured.
Ianna was already passed out, her other hand clutching the wand with the life-like miniature of the cobra which bit her. "Well, at least the wand's safe."
The Naga Awakens - Part Two Ianna sat at her desk, reading quietly. Her right arm was in a sling, bandaged from where the large cobra had bitten her. Even a week later, it was sore and hard to use despite Matty's magics. And Ianna was pissed.
She hadn't been able to take care of Coailiann so she had to entrust her new daughter to Matilda. She couldn't very well hold her with a dead arm now, could she? A soft grumble came to her lips at the thought of it.
Silver eyes moved to the wand at her side, the life-like snake motionless. "I wish your guardian would hurry up so I didn't have to look at you." she hissed.
The woman gently rapped on the door with her knuckles, trying to ignore the freezing cold biting at her skin. It seemed the world truly was against her, as she had forgotten her cellphone at home, and her ride had neglected to pick her up. Frankly, only the masochistic would be out in the weather, the woman in question thought to herself as she waited for someone to open the door.
It might've been slightly rude to ask some random person if she could borrow the phone, and this place seemed like a shop. She'd pay if she needed to - Anon, as the woman was named (the prettyness of the name was open for discussion, she'd grumpily declared back when she was a teenager), wasn't particularly rich, but neither was she poor.
Jumping up and down a bit, shaking her arms, Anon turned pleading eyes on the door. "Please~..." whimpering slightly, she tried to ignore the curious stares of the other pedestrians, staring fixedly on the door.
Ianna's head snapped upward at the sound of the rapping on her door. The sign said open did it not? She grumbled and stood up slowly, wincing as her arm jarred a little, and stepped out from behind her desk.
"I wonder if the person can read or just has a mind to make a poor injured woman get up." she muttered to herself as she walked towards the door, her heavy-booted feet making soft clicks against the wooden floor.
Her good hand reached out and twisted the knob, pulling the door open and narrowing her eyes at the woman. "The sign does say Open, miss, you didn't have to knock."
Okay, so Ianna was in a bad mood. You would be too if you got bitten by a giant cobra and your arm was rendered useless and pain plagued you and you couldn't see your daughter because you couldn't take care of her, wouldn't you?
Ianna huffed and turned on her heel, walking behind the desk. "Well, Come in if you want, don't make me get up for no reason." Her good arm lifted to run her fingers through her mess of silver hair.
"That's a guardian, you dim wit." Matilda hissed in her ear and Ianna growled. "I figured, smart a**, I'm not a ******** idiot." she turned to look at the woman, raising a brow.
Yes, Ianna seemed to be talking to herself. "I don't have all day."
Blinking slightly at the rude tone the woman used, Anon wondered if she had ever met her before - she certainly acted as if the young woman had offended her somehow.
"Well, I thought I'd be polite and knock?" it was phrased more like a question, really - Anon had missed the sign completely, but no reason to tell the other woman that.
Stepping into the shop, the woman couldn't help but wonder if this person EVER cleaned, at all. Sure, her arm was in a sling - but surely it couldn't be that way permanently?
And now.. she was talking to herself. Narrowing her eyes slightly, Anon sent a quick glance to the door. Maybe she ought to leave before the woman attacked her or something? But it was so cold, the little voice in her head whined.
"I'm sorry, Ma'm, but I was wondering if I could borrow your phone? I'll pay, if you want.." she seemed just the type, she huffed quietly, to refuse a freezing woman's plea.
Ianna perched herself on the stool behind the desk. "I'll give you a phone, in a manner of time..." she paused for effect, "Anon, is it?" Oh yes, Ianna loved knowing people's names before they stated them.
Matilda did come in handy sometimes. "But first, You need to do something for me." her head gave a small tilt. Yes, Ianna was in a bad mood, but....she was getting rid of that stupid wand! That made her incredibly giddy.
Ianna tapped the book to her side, it sliding by itself to the center of the desk. It was a leather bound book, edged with gold, and it looked old and dusty. The glittering gold letters read "The Book of Life And Death" and looked rather menacing at that. "Touch the book."
The moment Anon so much as placed a finger on the book, the book would spring open, light up, and the pages would fly as if there were invisible winds brushing at the paper. It would then land on the page with a sketch of a wooden staff, a cobra wrapped around it in a hissing status. Below that would be beautiful scrawl reading:
"India. Wand ID 00004. A Soul has been trapped within the confines of the wand. Congratulations, you have become the next guardian to take on the task of raising it from infancy to greatness. We, Ianna and I, have the upmost faith in you to complete your task dutifully. Best of luck,
Matilda."
Ianna's silver gaze watched the woman with interest, wondering what her reaction would be.
Feeling her eyebrow beginning to twitch a bit in irritation, Anon reckoned she should have left before things got too weird - but now the woman knew her name, and one couldn't really leave someone on bad terms if they knew your name. Plus, the woman in question was kind of curious as to how the other woman had known her name. Maybe she was in possession of some sort of mental power? It was known that some people could read minds, after all; though why they'd read HERS when all she wanted was to borrow the phone, she had no idea.
Inching slowly towards the door, Anon decided that her earlier decision to stay was dead wrong, and potentially dangerous - nothing good ever came from doing something for strangers.
And the book was moving. So, magic. Definitely magic. Anon winced, having had a few unpleasant encounters with magic, and having heard some of the stories told about loons abusing their power.
"And why should I touch a magic book offered by a woman who talks to herself and know my name, when I don't even know hers?" the silverhaired woman must've thought she was a complete dolt to just do as she asked. Really..
Ianna felt a little frustrated. "Because It's vital that you do, Anon." Ianna's voice sounded very sincere, the previous rude tone disappearing.
Even her eyes showed that she was being sincere. "And I don't talk to myself, I'm talking to my daughter. Matilda." she paused. She normally didn't introduce Matilda to the guardians but...eh.
"Matilda, Say hello."
There was a bit of arguing, which seemed to be with herself, but a voice filled the room. "Hello, Anon."
"That's a good girl, Matty."
"Oh shut up mother."
Ianna grinned a bit. "See what I have to deal with...?" an exhasperated sigh. "Just touch the book and you can use a phone in a few minutes."
Okay, so maybe she wasn't a complete loon. Relaxing a bit, and smiling slightly, Anon nodded; she'd do it, then. She was a sucker for polite people, after all.
"Hi Matilda. Are you.. invisible?" glancing around quickly revealed that no girl was in sight, except for the woman and her.
"Yes, you truly are unfortunate." her tone had taken on a teasing edge, warming up incredibly fast. She, herself, had had to be a surrogate mother to several of her siblings, and the affection in the other woman's voice was unmistakeable.
Taking a deep breath, Anon made her way over to the book. Taking a quick look at the other woman, she resolutely put her hand on top of the gold letters. Quickly the book flew up and sprung open, sending Anon reeling back in surprise. "W-what the..?!" she stuttered, eyes still fixed on the book. As it seemed to calm down, she cautiously made her way back to it.
".." turning blank eyes on the woman, Anon dumbly pointed to the book.
"Somehow, I have the feeling that I should like to know what that means." A soul trapped in a wand, and the woman's (whose name MAY be Ianna) invisible daughter having written a message that SEEMED to be for her. India, she could understand too. But 'from infancy to greatness'? What in the world did they mean with that..?
Matilda's laughter sparked through the room. "No, I'm simply in another realm. I'm one of the ancients...I came from a wand much as your new child shall."
Ianna tilted her head and winced a bit as she shifted, her arm painfully moving in its sling. "Basically, darling, the soul trapped in this wand..." she reached over, careful of the life-like snake wrapped around the staff, and grasped the wand, sliding it over to her. "Died a horrible death. In doing so, a spell my daughter cast caught their soul in limbo, hovering somewhere between life and death until it was ready to be reborn and given a second chance."
The woman paused. "The wand chose you. Slowly it'll go through stages of life, eventually becoming a human baby. Congratulations, Anon. You're a mother."
The moment Anon took the wand, it would glow a deep red and gold color. The act would be irreversible, and the wand would be awoken.
"Oh, umm.. okay?" what did you say to that? Anon blushed, well aware that she'd just ruined any chances of being seen as at least a mediocre intelligent creature.
"So, it's a soul trapped in a wand that'll become a kid?" her voice was a bit hoarse, and just a tad nervous.
Reverently picking up the wand, Anon blinked at the pretty colours. More light shows? Oh well, who was she to complain? This was just a bit surreal, and as such the woman had found herself in a light case of shock; she really hadn't much to say, mainly because of the fact that her brain was unwilling to cooperate.
"A mother. I'm a mother."
Ianna chuckled. It seemed her previous bad mood had disappeared at the woman's reactions and she shook her head a little bit.
"Yes, it'll become a child. The first stage is the wand, the second stage is the wisp, which is a string of smoke forming the general shape of a child coming from the tip. It's most vulnerable in that form. You need to be careful because if it's sucked into a fan or out the window, you've killed it and it will never have a chance at life again."
The woman thought a moment. "The third is a baby ghost...the wand will shrink and the baby will cling to it. It's a little more solid than the wisp and so long as it holds the wand, it should stay together fairly well. The next would be a human infant...or..mostly human....Matilda, what spirit is in this wand?"
There was a long stretch of silence. "A naga."
Ianna smiled. "So it'll be half human and half snake. And yes, you're a mother."
"Oh.. god.." what'd she gotten herself into? The woman whimpered lightly, tearfilled eyes staring at the wand. Of course she wanted to help the poor soul, literally, but this was all so sudden!
"And.. half-snake..?" luckily for her, Anon had never possessed a great fear of snakes - but on the other hand, she held no great love for them either.
"Wow." shaking her head lightly to clear her thoughts, the woman smiled a watery smile.
"C-can I come here if I need some guiding? I've never had.. a smoke-child before.." she shifted her feet, unsure of what to call the wand's stages.
Ianna nodded and pushed forward a piece of paper, gold letters matching the book that read "Press Me."
"Of course, but press this first. You'll be able to get your phone after." As soon as Anon would, she was transported into a large room.
"Welcome to Headquarters, Anon. You're welcome here at any time."
Pressing the paper, still in a daze, Anon didn't feel quite as surprised as she should have when she was instantly transported into a large room.
"oh. Thank you. Can I borrow the phone now?"
Ianna walked behind the large counter and handed her a phone. She still wasn't sure how Matilda had gotten electricity to work in another realm but...she wasn't exactly one to complain.
"Go ahead, use the phone." she said, settling herself down on the stool.
"Thank you." Anon dialled the number to her brother's, still in a daze.
"Yeah, Aron? Could you come pick me up? I'm two blocks from work, some small shop. You can't miss it. Thanks, you're a sweetheart." putting down the receiver, she smiled feebly at Ianna.
"Is it okay if I go wait outside the shop? My brother's picking me up soon.."
Ianna gave a brief nod. "Walk through the door to my left, Anon, it'll take you back to the shop."
Ianna gave a small yawn. "Don't forget your child, either. I hate that wand." she looked to her arm and shuddered.
"Okay, thanks. See you." and with that little announcement, Anon walked off to the door on Ianna's left, the wand fitting snugly in her arms, intent on ignoring humanity in general until she'd gotten home.

From The Ashes - Part One
It was the middle of the night and the only light shining in Ianna's room was the digital alarm clock she had invested in. But that isn't what woke her up.
The voice in her head, the sharp, frantic voice of Matilda, woke her up. "What the fark do you want?" she murmured, hiding her head under her pillow as if it would keep the woman's voice from ringing in her mind. Unfortunately, no amount of blockage of the outside sound could quiet her voice.
"A new wand has awakened, Mother. It's in Egypt and your arm is better. This means you get to go get it. Now."
Ianna grumbled and poked her head, hair flying every which way in a fashion which was more crazy than usual, from beneath the pillow. "Mmph...It's..." silver eyes flicked towards the clock. "Two...In the morning, Matilda. Go away."
There was an angry hiss. "You didn't get the other wand I had begged you to get, and it went dormant again. Who knows when, or if, it will wake again. You need to go get this one!"
Her daughter's words were true. She hadn't gone for the last wand and...She sighed, sitting up and looking half dazed. "Egypt, eh? Where in Egypt?"
There was a long stretch of silence. "The desert."
Great. "Uh huh. Let me get dre--"
As per usual, the woman was cut off and teleported, as is, into a strange place. "ssed.....Did you just send me here in my NIGHTGOWN!?"
There was a devious giggle. "Mmhmm, now GET LOOKING."
Ianna looked positively livid as she trudged through the ankle-deep sand, carefully and slowly. There was snakes. And scorpions. And other things in the desert she didn't want to think of. God she hated snakes.
Thankfully, unlike her Indian adventure, she ran into little trouble at all. A few scorpions scuttled past her, but nothing really bothered her as she made her way through the thick, sand, already hot with the sun. It was day time in Egypt, after all.
"Matilda, it's hot. I'm tired. I haven't found the wand, and I want to go home."
"You always say you haven't found it and want to go home and a few minutes later you find it." Matilda pointed out. Ianna grumbled. Her daughter was right, and that annoyed her to no end.
But she needed a rest and so she plopped on her rear in the sand, closing her eyes. "This desert is huge, Matilda...It could take me forever to find it....Please just tell me."
Matty sighed. "It's somewhere east of here. That's all I really know...."
Ianna's eyes looked around here and she hissed, standing up slowly and starting in the direction she had been told.
A few minutes of walking and she saw some flames leaping from the sand...a mirage? Maybe, but it could also be a wand...god she hoped it wasn't on fire.
Aha! A....OH! A PHOENIX! "SWEEEET MONKIES!" she screeched and grabbed at it...the fire was cold as ice. "Can I go home NOW?"
Matilda laughed. "Uh huh, sour puss."
~End Part One~
From The Ashes - Part Two Ianna sat at her desk, as per usual, reading and writing in what appeared to be a very old ledger. Six children had been found, and one still needed a home.
Carefully she wrote over the pencil marks for the newest wand with her fountain pen, making sure not to blot any of the ink. SHe wanted it to be neat and legible. It was just the kind of person she was.
"I wonder how long it will take this time to find a home for the little thing, eh? Though I'm going to be sad to see this one go. It's so pretty and wrapped in fire..." she trailed off and stroked at the wand.
It would be interesting to see who this one went to. Little did she know that the new guardian would be coming in shortly to claim it.Dafriel wandered the early morning streets, restless. He had left Kelinor asleep, for once a respite while the children she had adopted were being cared for by their great-aunt in the days running up to the holiday. Theoretically the shapeshifter was shopping for a gift; but his mind was moody, swirling with thoughts of home, and he strolled the streets with a vague frown on his face, pale eyes lost behind the glasses.
Eventually something nibbled at his attention, and he glanced up. Just a normal, quiet street, a few people wandering here and there. And another shop, that somehow drew his curiousity. The man, if he was in his other form, would have pricked his ears and sniffed cautiously; instead, he just shrugged and turned the handle to the shop door, peering into the room with dust dancing in the sunbeams.
"Good morning," he said aimiably, scanning the walls of boxes and eyes finally settling on the pale woman sitting writing at a desk in the centre of the room. "Are you open?"Ianna's silver eyes lifted to look at the man who had peeked in. "Mmm, we're always open." she said, shifting in her stool. A voice in her head immediately prodded her to let her know that the one who had entered the room was yet another guardian to her wands.
HER shinies.
"Come on in and sit down...Welcome to Ghosts of the Past....YES Matilda, I realize...NO Matilda...JUST SHUT UP DAMNITTTT!"
She growled low, seeming to be talking to herself. Ianna was really annoyed by her daughter, so it seemed, especially since she had JUST gotten Coailiann to take a nap after hours upon hours of her crying. "Mmph....sorry, please, come in..."
"Ghosts of the Past?" Dafriel looked vaguely confused as he was told to take a seat. He hadn't somehow wandered into a pet adoption shop, had he? He was definitely shopping for a present, but another pet was not what Kel-chan needed. A brief thought sprang into his head as he realised he had no pet or strange ward thrust upon him; he grinned to himself, revealing slightly pointed canines, unuasual on such a mild looking, bespectacled man. He slung his black coat onto one arm, and pushed the sleeves of his blue shirt further up his elbows as he took a seat, peering round the shelves once more. He politely continued paying attention to the woman, but blinked as she seemed to be talking to herself. Maybe she was called Matilda?
He cleared his throat, trying not to catch dust in it. "Uh... so, what do you sell here, miss?"A devious smile touched Ianna's lips. "Oh, we don't sell anything here, darling." she said. "We give things. Hold on a moment..."
The woman disappeared behind the desk for a few moments before popping back up, a large leather bound book being plopped on the desk with a large, loud THUD...Dust flew everywhere as she did and she giggled to herself.
"Place your hand on the book, please?" she asked, pushing the book towards him until it was sitting right before him. Once more, she wondered what reaction she would get THIS time. Each guardian had wonderful reactions, but none had been better than the black man's.
The moment he touched it, the book would start to glow and would fly open, dust being sprayed every which way and the pages moving quickly, as if an invisible wind was rushing past and rustling the pages. It would stop on a page with a beautiful sketch of a wand, wrapped in fire, feathers hanging from it..and a pair of wings.
Under the picture it would say: "Egypt. Wand ID 00005. A Soul has been trapped within the confines of the wand. Congratulations, you have become the next guardian to take on the task of raising it from infancy to greatness. We, Ianna and I, have the upmost faith in you to complete your task dutifully. Best of luck,
Matilda."
If he looked to the side, he would see the exact wand pictured sitting beside Ianna. It was till morning, and Daniel was still in bemused mode. He blinked at the thud the large book made on the table as it was placed in front of him, and automatically reached a hand out.
A few milliseconds before he touched the beautiful leatherbound book, instinct kicked in. Wait a minute! What the hell did he think he was doing? They give stuff out, huh? Well, he wasn't going to be saddled with anything, that was for damn sure! Pale blue eyes startled and then angry, he whipped his hand back, but his fingers brushed the surface as they retreated.
"Kirichnahin!" The word was probably an expletive in whatever northern tongue he uttered it, the way it was spat from his mouth as a crazy thing began to happen to the book. His chair thudded back as he extended long legs to push himself away, and he was on his feet as the book finally fell open with a frenzied rustle, and was silent.
Dust settled on the tableau, the still-grinning woman, the man half stood up in his seat, the book sitting innocently as if nothing had ever possessed it.
Dafriel swallowed before setting his face into a narrow frown. He could see the beautiful sketching in the book, the writing a little too small for him to see from that distance, but a quick glance suddenly revealed that the exsquisite drawing was merely a copy of the gorgeous real item sitting previously unnoticed on the desk beside it.
"Please tell me this is a shopping catalogue," he growled, eyes flashing dangerously.Ianna giggled. "Oh No." she read slowly the reading of the book, and watched for his reaction.
Inside, she was near giddy from his reaction. Definitely one of the top reactions....and that was a highlight of her day. "You're going to be a father....Daniel." she raised a brow. "Lovely name, by the way."
She loved the fact her daughter knew things and she could frighten the customers. Just then, though, a baby's cry filled the air and caused her to hiss. "Excuse me. Coailiann's up."
The woman walked into the next room, picked up the infant, and walked back out...a placated girl in her arms. The shapeshifter's eyes darted to the door, the windows. Oh, no. A father? This was EXACTLY the opposite of what he'd come out to do. Here had been priding himself on not having fallen victim to the craziness that surrounded Barton town, where people became guardians to children not of this world... obviously spoke too damn soon, didn't he.
"How do you know my name?" He spoke harshly, the scent of the silvered woman's smug satisfaction filling his nose as she excused herself momentarily. Was this some kinda trick? He didn't let on that at least his real name was safe; she had used his nickname instead... Perhaps she had heard it once.
His mind quickly dismissed that however. Something was up, and it was a baby. His mind, running as it was along the lines of 'guardianship', quickly connected the firetwain, rich spice-smelling wand with a child, and he leaned forward to slam his hands on the desk either side of the book, and read ferociously. 'Congratulations'? Just freakin' great!
He recognised the last name, Matilda, as what the woman had been muttering. Who Ianna was, he had no idea. He read it again, a sinking feeling in his heart.
"And what happens if I say no?" He looked up, lip curling slightly derisively as he raised his head to fix the woman with a piercing gaze, as she stood unconcernedly, a girl-babe cradled in her arms.Ianna blinked. Maybe this guy wasn' t the best of guardians for a child? Eh. If the wand chose him, the wand chose him. There was no switching guardians...not right now, anyway.
"You can't. If you do, the babe will die. The soul inside this wand died a horrible death already and is being given a second chance. Do you want to be the one to take the poor babe's life away?" she replied, sliding into the stool she had perched herself on previously. Coailiann looked over to Daniel with wide eyes, shining brightly and innocently...for the most part. She seemed a little mischievous as well.
"And I know your name because you were supposed to come here, it's simple as that." If he reacted this badly to the book, how would he react to the paper portal which would transport them into the main headquarters? She didn't quite like to think of that
She did know, however, that Matilda could protect her and the infant if needed. The man continued standing there, the hard look upon his face for a few seconds. Then, as if suddenly coming to a conclusion, he rolled his eyes up to the sky and flashed a defeated grin, slumping back down into the chair.
"Okay, okay, I get it," he said, vaguely annoyed but with a wry tone. "Kel's always getting these little burdens. Just never figured it would get round to me." The initial shock over, he pulled the chair back towards the table for a better read. Studying it again, at last he shrugged.
"Well, I'm not the kinda person to leave little kids trapped... wherever they're trapped. In this wand?" He reached out to stroke the smooth wood gently, marvelling at the slight warmth it emitted, the feathers ethereal and soft to the touch. He became aware of small eyes fixed upon him, and looked up at the curious Coailinn.
"Is this little one from a wand as well?" He indicated with a brief wave towards the baby. Seeing her still staring, he pulled a face, to see if she would laugh. The werewolf had his scary, vicious front, one that he tried to convince himself was his real one, but underneath he wasn't that averse to fatherhood, even if it was of the proxy type.Ianna gave a little chuckle as relief flooded her. He hadn't refused the babe..."Yes, their soul is trapped in that wand. It's a Phoenix, by the way...If you couldn't tell by the feathers and fire...which is absolutely cold and won't hurt you or light anything else on fire." She paused.
"Coailiann did indeed come from a wand, just as my other daughter, Matilda did. She's the one who trapped the souls in the wands to give 'em second chances....Kay here, however, decided she wanted to skip three stages and go straight to infant, not giving anyone time to claim her, so she became mine. She's a rebellious little Sidhe babe."
Coailiann, at the mention of her name, gave a cute little babble and clapped at her hands. "Ahugha!". An incoherant baby speech, but baby speech none the less as she reached out to grab the feathers hanging from Daniel's wand. She almost succeeded, as well, until Ianna pulled her back into her arms.
This caused the little girl to pout and give a dissatisfied snort. And then a whimper. The 'shifter picked up the wand curiously. It was just shorter than the length of his forearm, and beautifully light. He gave it an experimental twirl, but then suddenly stopped, guilty. "So... uh, how does one go about caring for these wands? How do you release the child?" He was holding it gingerly now, as if he expected it to break. Another thought struck him.
"And this... Coailinn," he struggled slightly over the pronunciation, leaving a soft northern burr to it, " she is a Sidhe? Are they not all Phoenixes then? And how do you come by them?" He stopped for a few moments, suddenly realising he was on question overload. Her silver eyes watched him and then smiled at his questions. It was good to question and not just accept. "You just..make sure they don't break. Talk to them. When they feel as if their safe, and you've accepted them, they'll slowly begin to emerge. As a wisp, at first, and then a baby ghost. From there it'll go to a normal infant baby, solid and mostly human.
And Coailiann...Yes, she's a Sidhe. There's many many different souls, and you're probably the only one who will ever get a phoenix. Right now we have a Selkie, A sidhe, a Kitsune, A moon child, and a naga...They all have one thing in common. They are all magical creatures who died a horrible death."
"A horrible death?" Daniel turned the wand over slowly in his hands, as if he could see right into it and find out just what had happened. He stroked it again curiously before looking up at Coailinn. "So... that smiling little babe you're holding was once older and then died?"
He tried putting the wand into his pocket, and though it stuck out just a bit, flickering feathers glowing softly, it still fitted. Even if it did jab into his leg when he moved. He had to take care of it, huh? "Oh yeah, and do they have to return here often?" He gestured at the dusty shop, pale eyes wandering around it.A nod was his answer before Ianna figured out how to explain it. "Yes, a horrible death. Nobody really knows how they died except Matilda, and she won't tell...They themselves won't know either until they reach their teenage years.."
"As to your other question...No, they don't have to, but it'd be nice. The other wand owners should form friendships and have interactions, as well as the children when they emerge. They'll need support from eachother later in life. They are, indeed, some of the few magic folk left to be honest." she scratched the back of her neck. "The human population...tends not to be too happy with magic..." Daniel looked away wryly at her last comment. How true that was, and he was only a mongrel one...
He blinked a little though. If Matilda wasn't this woman, then she must be Ianna. How foolish not to have introductions... "I know you already somehow knew my name, but I'll say a formal hello myself then before I must take my leave..." He still had that shopping for Kel to do, even if he did have a 'surprise' nestling in his pocket already. "My name is Daniel von Aeriwald, a pleasure to meet you." He inclined his head, his hand going absently to the wand."Ianna Umbridge." she said, giving a small nod of her head. "And before you go, I have one more little thing to show you."
The young woman smiled softly, "Please press this."
She slid a sheet of paper over to her, written upon it was gold letters saying "Press Me". As soon as Daniel so much as touched it, he was transported into a large room. As they entered the main lobby Via the portal connecting the shoppe and the headquarters, the first thing they would notice is the vast...largeness...of it.
"Welcome to Headquarters, Daniel... You're welcome here at any time.""A- wha???"
The sunlit dusty confines had vanished, leaving instead much more opulent surroundings. Daniel spun around immediately, looking for how to return. He always liked to know the exits... but it seemed as though this time, he would have to trust the hostess.
Finding his voice at last he managed a reply. "Ah... great! This is a good place you have here...." The roster caught his eye as he stared wonderingly around, and he trotted over to have a look.
"So, little thing, are you and I on here yet?" He spoke almost to himself as he ran a thumb over the wand tip, squinting through his glasses at the names. Come to think of it, what was this being's name? It's gender for that matter? "Um... does it have a name?" He turned to ask Ianna, eyebrows raised. At least he hadn't freaked out like the darker man had. "Nope, you're not on there yet. And no, it doesn't have a name. You name it, when it's born...when you find out whether or not you have a son or a daughter." a smile touched the woman's lips as she looked around the headquarters.
"This is my home, it's in another realm. One that Matilda built...it's safe here, for the magic folk. Nothing will really touch them here, as far as I know...There's an easier way to get in, however, it's the door over there." she pointed to the door to the right of the desk. "It leads back into the wand shop. In the shop, it's to the left of the desk, and leads into here.""That certainly makes life a lot easier," he nodded. "So this is safe?" A thought strayed across his mind; if they had died horrible deaths, perhaps they had been killed. And with magic folk, who knew how long vengeance lasted? The agressors might return...
He removed the wand from his pocket and addressed it solemnly. "Well, little wand, you and I will have to return, once you are coaxed from your prison."Ianna smiled a little. This man was actually pretty decent. Little wand chose well. "Yes, as far as I know, nobody can get past Matilda's magicks." she paused. "Except for Coailiann, here." she looked to the babe, now asleep in her arms. Aparently, the adult talk bore her to slumber.
"She surpassed Matty's spell and grew too quickly." another pause. "You're already fond if it, somehow, aren't you?"Daniel blinked. Fond? He looked at the wand, and smiled unconsciously. Now that it had been given to his care, and he knew a little about it... yes, he was kind of fond, the same way he felt when he was helping Althalus with his writing, or Laurel to talk. Fond... this time, it would be him the child turned to automatically. Perhaps he wouldn't mind it, after all...
"You may be right," he said grudgingly, pushing his glasses back up his nose with a smile. He pokceted the wand once more, and peered around again. "Is there anything else I must do or know?""No, not unless you have more questions which you feel need to be answered." She answered, shifting Coailiann in her arms gently, as not to wake her. It was hard enough getting her to sleep.
"You can come around at any time, talk with the other owners. Several of them have wands who have already grew to wisps, if you have questions about it...Really, you should come by often, if you can anyway. It'd be good for you, and the phoenix child.""I will, you can count on it." Finally, another reason for him to roam the town.. though if the assassins found out... He dismissed that thought strongly from his mind. the Felus had not found him yet.
He touched a pair of fingers to his forehead in a salute. "Well then, I will return, and perhaps a few wisps may have emerged from the wand, huh?" He grinned, and bowed a little. Now for shopping... and Kel's reaction. Ah, now that would be fun....

A Christmas Surprise - Part One
Ianna Umbridge walked quietly down the streets of Barton, her shoes clipping the sidewalk with crisp little clicks. The snow was falling in flurries and getting caught in her silver hair...which for once was rather tame. Coailiann was strapped in a baby-backpack type thing which was attatched to her front, happily burbling and giggling in her little baby talk. Something that Ianna had grown accustomed to.
She was growing up, and quickly. "Little Kay-Kay." she murmured, starting to hum. She was on her way to finish her Christmas shopping, and she was just completely happy.
"Ianna, Mother, A wand awoke..."
Ianna cursed. "I have Kay with me, Matty, and I'm currently shopping."
"There's no worries." Matilda said, a smirk in her voice. "It's down the alleyway."
Ianna's silver eyes blinked. "Urm...Okay." she made a quick detour into the alleyway and saw the brown wand, wrapped in a red ribbon and decorated with holly. The soft yellow glow indicating what the wand was all about. "The little match girl, right?"
She felt a nod in her head. "Yay. Another wand. I wonder who's going to take guardianship of the tragic girl...Wait..." she blinked. "What magicks did she have?"
"I have no clue." answered her daughter. "But she was caught anyway."
"Mmm, okay then...I guess I should skip shopping and go home. Ready Kay?"
Coailiann gurgled.
"So it's settled."
And Ianna turned around, walking back to the shop.A Christmas Surprise - Part Two
Ianna sat, staring at the desk. One of the wands had yet to find a home, and she had discovered it many many many days ago. This...annoyed the poor woman to no end. WHY was the pull on the guardian not strong enough to bring them into the shop?
Or were they ignoring it? That made Ianna fidget. WHO was strong enough to ignore her pull?
Silver eyes cast over to the wand and she sighed, reaching out and picking up her daughter and placing her on her lap. Such was life, she supposed. Perhaps the little girl in the wand had yet to choose the guardian? Who knew...But it worried her nonetheless.
The wands had been strangely quiet, and Ianna didn't like that much either. In fact, she didn't seem to be liking a lot of things lately - mostly the fact that Coailiann had been slowly learning to walk. Walking and the little girl wasn't exactly high on the list that Ianna was keeping of fun things to do.
She shuddered. A mobile Coailiann meant a lot of things, and most of those things were NOT a good thing - for her, or the shop in general. Not to mention the fact that Coailiann was learning to levitate better and better.
Leviatation, Walking, and Coailiann was enough to scare the gods...or so she imagined.
Coailiann looked up at her mother, who was muttering to herself, as if she were nuts. Her mother had seemed a little tense lately, and she couldn't for the life of her figure it out...and she hadn't seen Lahela either. She missed her little parrot friend...Innocent green eyes stared at the door, as if....waiting for the paradise parrot to come squawking in.
Nai walks down the market street, whistling softly to himself. He'd been down these streets a million times, but each time he walks down they seem different. New shops would open up, new people would show up, and life would continue on as they knew it. He shakes his head and continues to stroll down the way, passing by shops that he knew had no interest in. Then he looks up as he sees a shop he had never seemed to notice before. He frowns, then looks at the door.
"Now... Why have I never seen this shop before... I've been down here a hundred times this week..." He mutters to himself.
After being unable to tell what the place sells, Nai opens the door and goes in. He looks with distaste at the surroundings before going up to the desk and speaking, "Okay, I gotta ask. What exactly do you guys sell here?"
Ianna looked up from Coailiann as the door opened and she heard the voice of the man who entered. Making a face, she set the squirming Sidhe girl in the playpen to the side of her desk and strode over to the man, crossing her arms over her chest. A little voice in her head prodded at her, letting her know that he was finally here, the guardian of the little wand who had been collecting dust behind her desk for the past weeks. "Shut up, Matilda."
Truely, she looked as if she were insane, her silver hair flying every which way in an attempt to make her seem even crazier than she was, and the glasses on her nose weren't helping her image any. "We don't sell anything here, Mr. Nebel." she answered, a sly smile crawling almost creepily across her face.
"And you're late. I've been expecting you."
Nai just starts ticking off the reasons he really doesn't like this woman in his head. She looks completely insane, she talks to herself, she knew his name before he introduced himself, and she was expecting him... Either he's in a shop made for an assassin's guild, or Nai's just walked into the twilight zone. Probably the latter.
"That's... charming. Okay, so you're on the market street but you don't sell anything? What do you do here then? I suppose you have some way of paying the rent?"
Ianna raised a brow. Certainly this man was different than the other owners who had come into her shop, and he was probably more close minded. She gave a shrug of her shoulders and strolled to the desk, slipping behind it and picking her daughter up, holding her in her arms as she scooted the large leather-bound across the desk - the only thing in the room not completely covered in dust, at him.
"Touch the book, Nai." she said, tilting her head. "You'll get your answers. I promise."
She watched, wondering how the rude man would react to the bright and glowy light that would emit from the very very old and dusty book. And the dust that would fly everywhere.
It would seem as if there was an invisible wind taking up all the pages and flipping them at once. Of course, the moment it stopped it landed on a beautiful looking sketch of the oak wood wand - which was currently sitting beside it.
Under the picture rested the words:
"Barton. Wand ID 00010. A Soul has been trapped within the confines of the wand. Congratulations, you have become the next guardian to take on the task of raising it from infancy to greatness. We, Ianna and I, have the upmost faith in you to complete your task dutifully. Best of luck,
Matilda."
"Congratulations, Nai. You're a daddy."
Closed minded? Not particularly. Just with enough death threats on his head to have a healthy amount of skepticism when weird stuff goes on. He looks at Ianna and watches her as she moves the leather book towards him. Then he looks up at her and asks, incredulously, "You want me to touch that? I have no idea where it has been!"
He looks down at the book with the glowing and the brightness and all that great stuff. Yeah, there's no way to know where it's been. You know, it could be cursed. Touch it if you aren't the kook and you become just like her. Probably something like that. He looks up at her, then looks down at the page. Well, you only live infinate times. If you're Nai. He touches the book.
Of course, when the book stats getting flapped by wind, he jumps back and looks at the book, "What the hell did I just do?" Then he watches the pages flip, "... The hell?" After that, he notices the writing on the book and the wand next to it. He reads it quickly before looking up, "Guardian? Wand? Infancy? I always thought wands were broken off twigs with unicorn hair in them or something."
Then he realizes what Ianna just said and replies thus: "What the hell do you mean I'm a daddy?!"
Ianna gave an insane sort of giggle. "You sir, have been watching way too much Harry Potter." the woman leaned over the desk, her glasses falling slightly to the edge of her nose. "The wand is holding the soul of a little girl, The Matchstick Girl, to be more precise, who died a very horrible death. You are her second chance, without you, she will be sent into death."
She paused. "You don't want to kill a little girl do you?"
Oh, Ianna was good at playing that card, her fingers stroking at the smooth wood. "You see this little thing here in my arms?" silver eyes turned to look at the Sidhe baby who was currently chewing on her hair with a delighted look in her eyes. "She came from a wand too, and lit up my life. The soul could do the same for you. Therefore, you're a daddy. You get to raise the little girl from wand, to infancy, into adulthood."
Nai's first mental thought was "You've got to be kidding me.? His second mental thought to this was "Hm... A daddy..." He looks down at the wand on the table before looking at the baby in the woman's arms. Then he looks up at her.
"Okay, explain a few things to me. How does a wand become a baby? I don't see the eyes on the thing. Second, who is the matchstick girl? And thirdly, what the hell is a hairy potter and why would I be watching it?"
Clueless? Perhaps. But funny, no?
Ianna rolled her eyes. "There's a SOUL trapped inside the wand. Right now, it's just a wand. With a soul. No eyes, no heartbeat. Just a spirit." Coailiann cooed in agreement and stuck her fingers in her mouth, deciding they tasted a lot better than Ianna's hair.
But not as good as apples.
"Second, The match stick girl..." she sighed and retold the story of the little girl, as written by Hans Christian Anderson, and smiled a bit. "Third...Nevermind on that if you've never heard of it."
Nai just gives up on understanding the woman. He reaches out and picks up the wand, looking at it. Then he looks back up, "So... Let me get this straight. There is a soul trapped inside this wand, yes? And eventually it will become the pink bit of blubber that is currently eating itself? And it has something to do with matches?" Hmm.
He looks at the wand, then at the woman, then at the wand again. Then he looks up, "Okay. Supposing I go along with this. What exactly am I supposed to do with it?"
Ianna's eyes narrowed at the man, reaching below for Coailiann's wand. Something that the baby hadn't been too drawn to...well...ever, and smacked him quite forcefully over the head with it. "You don't insult my children." she muttered, kissing Coailiann's forehead.
The little baby, who seemed to understand what was going on, shot her own glare at the fox man and hissed before going back to sucking on her fingers. She was teething.
"You're supposed to guard the wand and make sure nothing happens to it. Eventually, when it feels as though you've accepted it completely, a wisp will emerge, it's the child's essence. Eventually, it will solidify slightly into the shape of a baby ghost...and then, an infant. Get it?"
Nai rubs his head. Now that was completely uncalled for. In his world, babies were fuzzy. They were cute and cuddly. They also yipped and barked. They did NOT chew on their own hands. Is it his fault that this is the case? Humph. He glares back at the baby before looking up at her, "No, not at all. I don't see how the wand will start doing it's own fog show then become a baby. But I'll take your word for it."
Ianna gave a small shrug of her shoulders and shifted the child in her arms, who rested her head quite cutely on her mother's shoulders, closing her emerald green eyes, before sliding a sheet of paper over to him, written upon it was gold letters saying "Press Me". As soon as Nai would touch it, he would be transported into a large room. As they entered the main lobby Via the portal connecting the shoppe and the headquarters, the first thing they would notice is the vast...largeness...of it.
"Welcome to Headquarters, Nai. You're welcome here at any time. " A vast difference from the dusty wand shop.
Nai looks around, wondering why the heck he actually pressed the button? He looks around at all the things that he's never seen. What is that gigantic flashing tapestry? And those weird little... What is all this stuff? The gilt he knows. The chandeliers are not foreign to him, nor is most of the rest of the decoration. But the electronics have ne'er been seen. He looks over at Ianna, looks at the building again, then looks at her, "Where the hell are we?"
Ianna gave a small smile. "Another realm within Gaia that my daughter Matilda created." she paused. "We're in the headquarters for Ghosts of the Past, Nai. It's where most of the other guardians come and hang out, and there's a very large and very vast gardens on the ground I think you'd enjoy."
Coailiann looked at him with those sweet green eyes and gurgled, sucking on her thumb as a comfort-thing. Her mouth hurt.
Nai continues to look around before looking at Ianna, "Matilda... I saw that name before..." Then he remembers, "It was in that book. Like a note to me from her. Who is she? What do you mean she's your daughter?" He points to the baby in Ianna's arms, "Is that her?"
Right. Like the hairy football could make all this.
"No, Matilda is my eldest daughter, she also came from a wand - but she's the one who trapped the soul there, and all the souls. She's the one who CREATED this place...." she looked a little distant. "She grew up too fast, though. And then Coailiann came along." a smile lit the woman's face and she looked at the side in her arms.
"So I'm occupied with her and the other guardians almost all the time now."
Nai nods to Ianna as he continues to look around at stuff he's never seen before. Then he returns his gaze to her and asks, "So this Matilda... She came from a wand? Like this one?" He'd been holding the little match wand in his pocket the entire time, hand not really straying from it. While this might make no sense to him, and it might not seem to be the best idea, but he's not going to be letting go of that want any time soon.
He turns to the woman and asks, "You keep talking like I should know thist stuff. What's a guardian?"
"Yes, She came from a wand like that one. A silver and blue one, though the wand was made of crystal and metal...rather than wood and ribbon. She was a witch who was burned at the stake." she paused. "You are a guardian, Nai. A guardian is someone who was trusted with the soul of a child.
You have been trusted with a child. SHE chose you."
One day, Nai reasoned, this will start to make sense and every reference won't need a question wondering what it is. But today is not that day, apparently. He asks, "Who do you mean by 'she'? Matilda?"
"She. The spirit in your wand." A nod of the silver-haired woman's head as she leaned against the counter, shifting the little girl, who had fallen asleep, in her arms yet again.
"I don't QUITE understand it myself...Matilda doesn't like to explain things to me. All I know is the spirit chooses the guardian."
Nai takes the want out of his pocket and looks at it, twirling it in his hand left and right. Amazing how that ribbon spins in the air... He looks up, breaking himself from the mesmerizing sight, and then asks, "The wand chose me? But... I didn't even know about wands or anything! How are you sure that the wand's the reason I came into the store?"
"That's just the way things work, Mr. Nebel." she answered, giving a light shrug of her shoulders. "Nobody else had known about them either, but their wands chose them. Nobody knows how they do it, but the soul chooses the guardian they think would be right for them."
And that's where the big question comes in. Nai looks across the rooms, making sure not to look towards the woman that had first come across as insane to him, and asks, "What if I'm not the right one for her?"
Ianna was quiet for a long time before choosing her words, saying them with sincerity. "Don't most parents ask that to themselves, even when they have their own children? Did they do the right thing? Are they the best for the job? The answer is yes, Mr. Nebel. You were chosen because she believes you to be right for her...Only she can know what is right for her at this point."
"And in the future? She may know if I'm right for her now, even if I don't. But what for the future, when she may be like the child you are holding in your arms?" Maybe most parents think this, but it's still a problem no matter how cliche. "Somehow, I don't think there is an adoption choice if I'm not right for her."
"But you are, Mr. Nebel. However, if you feel you are not or no longer wish to take care of her...Well...We can always TRY to rehome her...She may not be very happy, because well...the bonds are rather strong...but to be honest, you'd have to die for her to truely take to a new guardian and...not suffer psychological problems..."
Nai nods a little bit and twirls the wand between his fingers for a few more moments. Then he looks around. Another question for the lot, "Should I want to, how do I leave? And if I need to return, how is that done?"
"The door is there" she pointed to the door to the side of the large counter. "Goes into the wand shoppe, and you can leave through the normal door...there's a matching door in the wand shop that you just walk through to get here, to the side of the desk." a grin. "I just like using the paper portal for new guardians, gives myself something interesting to do."
Nai's palm connects with his forehead while he grumbles angrily. He shakes his head and growls lowly, "For future reference, I don't like anyone doing magic on me if it's not needed. Being on the business end of a magic spell doesn't always end up feeling good, hmm?" Then he moves towards the door to leave, to think about things back home with the wand in tow.
"Well...tis not exactly...Oh never mind." she muttered. "Good luck with your wand, Mr. Nebel. I hope to see you around here, the other guardians who are more experianced in such things may be able to help you more than I can." a nod of her head. "And have a nice day."
With that, she walked into her own bedroom to nap with Coailiann.

Swamped! - Part One So Christmas was over and new years was the next day. Ianna had had a few days to recooperate (Minus the trauma to the head and the visit with the hellion kitty.), and she was currently lounging on the couch reading a book.
The little sidhe who had just discovered she could walk (albeit clumsily) was asleep in her crib. Thankfully, she couldn't levitate more than a few inches in the air and was unable to get out of the little white crib. Ianna had the night, and headquarters to herself.
Or so she thought. It was short lived when the familiar whine of Matilda's voice entered her head.
"Wand's been awakened, in the south. You need to go grab it...though, I'd bring boots. Thick ones. It's in one of the swamps, and it's not pretty."
Ianna froze. "Snakes?"
"Probably"
God damnit, she hated snakes. "Okay...and Coailiann?"
"I'll watch her."
"Okay..." And she was instantly transported in the center of a very large swamp. With boots, thankfully.
"So...somewhere...in this swamp there's a wand...?"
"Yep. You know the drill."
Ianna made a face...god DAMN this place smelled. First one foot lifted, then another, and slowly Ianna made her way, waist in, through the swamp. The loud squelching sounds echoed through the air. God she hated this.
"You know what I do for you, I wouldn't do for anyone else?"
"Yep."
A hiss. Ianna turned around, seeing a snake slither through the water, she yelped and jumped up, falling completely into the swamp, the muddy water clinging to her silver hair.
Ianna flailed, trying to straighten herself out, and grabbed ahold of what she thought to be a root. It came free as she stood up again, now sopping wet. "Ah. Found it." she muttered. "Can I go home now? I smell like sewage."Swamped! - Part Two It was the day after she had found the wand and Ianna was sitting behind the desk of the shop, scribbling notes on the new wand. Said wand was laying on the desk beside her, along with the large leather bound Book of Life and Death which never left it.
Her silvery eyes were half drooped in fatigue, and Coailiann was currently sitting to her left and gnawing on a pretzel. Her new love.
"Wonder who the next guardian will be, eh Kay?"
Kay just babbled.Amparo looked around absently as she wandered towards the Wand Shoppe, biting her lower lip slightly. She felt like she was both being followed, and being literally pushed in the direction of the Wand Shoppe. Whatever bloody thing is shovin' me to this place, it better stop bein' s'damn pushy. She thought absently, breaking into a jog towards the shop.
Finally the hispanic-french witch was at the shop, and entered quietly, looking around. She sniffed absently and rubbed her nose, walking around quietly. "Hello?" She called quietly, eyes carefully examining the various objects in the shoppe, determining what was dangerous and what wasn't...
Finally she neared the desk in the shop, and spotted Ianna. She smiled slightly. "Hello there." She greeted, rubbing her neck. What was she doing here? She glanced around again, biting her lip sheepishly.A voice entered Ianna's head, prodding her to tell her that the new owner of a wand had finally entered. Which wand it was, Ianna had no clue. Thankfully, the book would know.
"I know, I know." Ianna muttered, seemingly to herself. "I'm not stupid, I feel it." She knew that the woman would think she was insane for talking to herself.
"Urm, Hi!" Ianna answered quietly and she smiled a bit, fidgeting with the book that had slid itself over to her. "Welcome to Ghosts of the Past..."
Coailiann echoed her mother's words, in her own baby speech. "Ghosblpah."Amparo smiled slightly. "Thanks. I'm, uh, I'm Amparo. Amparo Fernandez. Uh, I... this is gonna sound insane." She looked sheepish. "But something just kinda told me to come here." Amparo rubbed her neck sheepishly.
She heard the baby speech, and glanced down, looking amused. "She's cute... What's her name?" She asked, watching the baby with an amused and motherly look on her face.Ianna smirked a little. "Mmm, yes, I suppose you were. If you're curious as to why...well, you should read this book."
The woman pushed the book towards her, tilting her head a little bit. Wondering what her reaction would be to the sudden glowing and blowing of dust and pages and whatnot that would occur the second she touched the book.
Though she doubted anything could beat the black-man's reaction.
When the blowing suddenly stopped and pages settled, a sketch of the southern wand, perfectly sketched and matching the wand laying on the desk, could be seen. Beneath the picture, it read:
"The South. Wand ID 00007. A Soul has been trapped within the confines of the wand. Congratulations, you have become the next guardian to take on the task of raising it from infancy to greatness. We, Ianna and I, have the upmost faith in you to complete your task dutifully. Best of luck,
Matilda."
"Congratulations, Ms. Amparo, You're a mommy."Amparo arched a dark eyebrow as the book was pushed towards her, and she reached out her hand gently to touch the book, ready to flip it open and find out why she was pushed to this shop by some unseen force.
She let out a yelp when the book began to glow, and the book itself began to flip through pages. A little startled, she stepped forward when it stopped flipping, and frowned.
She saw the sketch of the southern wand, and reached out gently, tracing her fingers along the sketch. She read the words beneath it quietly, and frowned slowly.
"But...." Amparo took a deep breath. "This means I have to take care of a piece of wood, and whatever soul's inside?" She looked at the woman. "I'm not ready to be a mother! I'm barely ready to take care of me an' Antonio!" She insisted, closing her eyes tight.
"You've got t'be kidding me..."At least she was taking it slightly calmer than the black man? "Nope, not kidding you." she slid the wand over to her. "Meet your kid." she almost cackled at that and bent down, picking her daughter up.
"This is Coailiann, by the way. She came out of a wand too, going into toddlerhood and is a little brat, but I love her anyway." she chuckled and snuggled the little girl, who grabbed at her mother's hair and shoved it in her mouth, giggling. "Yeah....Anyway."Amparo eyed the wand gently, and bit her lip, picking it up slowly. "Well, when'll it... erm... hatch?" That wasn't the right term. She coughed. "I mean... Yeah. The baby'll come out of this?" She frowned, examining the wand carefully.
She looked over at the baby, and smiled slightly. "She's absolutely precious." Amparo laughed quietly. "My own, Antonio, he's a bit of a brat too. Can't help but love him, the little Prince." She shook her head and smiled, getting used to the familiar weight of the wand in her hand. "How long did it take until she came out of the wand?" She asked, frowning sheepishly."The spirits are all different, it's never easy to tell. There will be two stages before it becomes an infant, a wisp and a baby ghost. Wisp is the most delicate stage..It's easiest to be deformed then." Ianna paused. "From the baby ghost, it'll solidify into a human child."
Coailiann snuggled into her mother and stared at the lady quietly. Another baby? she had to meet it! And she said she was precious! That earned MAJOR points in the little sidhe's book.
"Thank you...she's precious, but a little candy coated evil, I think." she chuckled and stroked her daughter's head. "A little rebel sidhe.""Sidhe?" She frowned, and thought back. That sounded really, really familiar. Amparo dismissed it and smiled. "I see." She nodded a little, and bit her lip.
"This is going to be fun to explain to the boys." Amparo couldn't help the amused look on her face at the thought of Antonio and Jonathan's reaction to the wand.
She bit her lip and sighed. "Speaking of the boys... I should get home and tell them before they find out on their own." She rubbed her neck sheepishly. "They're not exactly the patient type." Patient? Far from it. Antonio and Jonathan had been getting into hella mischief whenever she left them alone for a few hours. It was hell going to the supermarket and coming back to a torn apart house and a soot-covered Changeling. Oy.Ianna laughed softly. "I wouldn't dream of leaving Coailiann alone, so I know what you mean...Matilda was a slightly better baby..She was the one who created this place....Urm...Before you go though..." she paused and then found a piece of paper, golden words saying 'press me' glittering on the parchment.
"Press that?"
As soon as Amparo so much as touched it, she was transported into a large room. As they entered the main lobby Via the portal connecting the shoppe and the headquarters, the first thing they would notice is the vast...largeness...of it.
"Welcome to Headquarters, Amparo... You're welcome here at any time." Amparo arched an eyebrow slightly, and pressed her finger to the paper. She let out a surprised yelp when she was suddenly transported into the vast Headquarters, and looked around curiously. "Wow..."
She smiled slightly at Ianna. "Thank you, Miss..." She bit her lip, looking around curiously, and then smiled at her again. "I'll be back, no doubt about that." She promised, grinning sheepishly. "And thank you for... for this." She held up the wand slightly, careful of it.
"Now... I should be off." She looked around for the exit sheepishly, and then frowned. "Uh... where do we get out of here?" She asked, rubbing her head childishly.Ianna pointed to the door to the side of the large desk. "Right through that door you go back to the shop, and then you know where that exit is. From now on, you can come through that door to get here...I just like the Paper portal." she smirked and then leaned against the desk with her daughter.
"Enjoy your new son or daughter...and be careful when it turns into a wisp, eh?"Amparo nodded slightly, and smiled. "Thanks, Miss Ianna." She headed for the door, thoughts reeling on the wand now in her possession, and the child it would soon become. I managed to adopt another child without even trying. This really says something about my maternal skills. Amparo sighed, and smiled to herself, heading home. Now to explain to the boys...

Under The Full Moon - Part One <******** kill! ******** Kill! Lalala!" came the sing-song voice of Coailiann from her crib. She had obviously woken up and wanted attention from her mother - though that wasn't any different than any other day. Coailiann -always- wanted attention, and she did NOT like to be ignored or left alone. That's just the way she was.
The only problem is...it was 6:00am and Ianna was still sleeping. Whoever heard of a child wanting to get up at the crack of dawn? A sleep-logged hand reached out, thumping against the wood of the nightstand to find the digital alarm clock. She hit it - a bit too hard - and yelped.
Silver eyes opened to focus on the numbers and she sighed softly, dragging herself from her bed, wrapping her robe around her, and walking down the long hall into the nursary where Coailiann was.
"Now, little girl, why do you insist upon waking up so early and not letting mommy get the sleep she wants, eh?" Ianna reached in and picked her up, holding her on her hip as she wandered into the kitchen, fifth door to the right, and set up the high chair. She was tired of the main lobby being covered with apples at the end of feedings.
Coailiann struggled a little as she was placed in the high chair and gave a little pout. What WAS with her mother and these medieval restraining prisons? It didn't make sense to her little mind. But! BUT BUT BUT! She was getting APPLES! That made it okay.
"Apple doo dah." she cooed, small, chubby fingers banging on the high-chair tray. Ianna chuckled and looked to her daughter, carefully slicing apples the old fashioned way. She was a bit tired of magic at the moment.
"Yes, Apples..." she murmured, getting distracted by the absolute cuteness of her daughter and narrowly missed her finger.
"Mom?" Matilda's voice filled the kitchen.
"Yes, Matty?" Ianna answered, now re-slicing the apple into smaller pieces.
"Another wand has awakened. It's in Germany...And...Well...You need to go."
Coailiann blinked. Was she not getting apples? Mommy had stopped slicing the apples and had that look on her face that she got before she was called off to leave her alone. Coailiann didn't like that...."Bah?"
Ianna gave a sigh. "Do I have to go now? Can I finish feeding Kay?"
Matilda paused. "You can't go now anyway...It...Can only be found under the full moon. Which...won't rise for a good...3 hours?"
Ianna blinked. "Full moon? Why?"
"It's...A lycan."
"Oh." Ianna said and finished slicing the apples, placing them on the high-chair tray. At least it wasn't the center of the earth, or god forbid, the sun.
~*~
Three hours past and Coailiann had been put through the portal to be with Matilda for the day. Ianna, armed to the teeth...just in case..."Well, ready to lock and load it?" she asked, a teasing humor in her eyes.
Now that she had actually had a few days off from wild goose chases, Ianna was a little bit more willing to go do her missions. Not to mention, Coailiann had calmed down quite a bit and even had a friend. She actually had a way to PUNISH the Sidhe now. Thank god.
"You're entirely too gleeful to have a shotgun right now, Mom."
Ianna smirked. "Oh, I'mma have me some fun huntin' a wolf tonight."
With that said, Ianna was transported to a deserted German fairground...
~*~
Ianna blinked. Wow. This was just creepy. It looked more like a ghost town than anything else...as if the festival had just....disappeared without a trace, leaving the broken down rides and booths to the elements.
"And I'm supposed to walk through a deserted carnival under a full moon, looking for a werewolf wand...?" she peeked around, eyeing a few of the open-mouthed clowns faces. They were seriously freaking the poor woman out.
"Yep."
A sigh. Okay. Where to start? Ianna walked down the packed earth, silver eyes switching back and forth quickly to make sure nothing jumped out at her. Every little creak and moan of the wind or rides made her jump. "God damnit." she muttered, narrowly being missed by a flying ob--BAT?! A ******** BAT?!
Ianna, in a panick, shot at it. The loud bang of her pistol echoing through the grounds, causing a screech of the bat. She missed.
Of course she did. Ianna had terrible aim.
But then...She saw it. A Glint of a silver gemstone...That HAD to be part of the wand, right? Right. She sprinted over to it and pulled it out. It was, ironically, at the edge of the forest, half sticking out of the dirt. "There...that...was easy enough." she muttered. She hadn't even come face to face with a werewolf.
"Take me home, Matty.." she said softly, tucking the wand into her back pocket.

The Wings of a Horse - Part One Ianna was starting to get used to her quiet wand-finding free days - so of course, Matilda would just have to step in to make it clear under no uncertain terms that she was, as she always was, her tool.
She was in the middle of rocking Coailiann to sleep when the familiar tingling in her chest started up. "Mother...."
A sigh was Ianna's first response, her silver eyes closing as she stroked Kay's soft white hair which had grown out to her shoulders. "Of course, right when I get comfortable, right?"
"Well, yes. But there are three wands that have all awoken at once...It's never happened before, mother."
Ianna stopped in mid-rock, her eyes snapping open. The "Never happened before" was never even heard. Three at ONCE?! "You expect me to go running off after THREE wands tonight when ONE is dangerous as it is?!"
Her shouting seemed to wake the slumbering Coailiann, causing her to whimper and her lower lip to jut forward. She was about to start out in a full out wail - and would have if Ianna hadn't quickly grabbed for the teething ring and shoved it in her mouth, instantly stopping her whimpering in its tracks.
"Now, mother, you knew..."
"I knew what I signed up for, and it wasn't an 'endanger my life every time Matilda called' type deal, and DEFINITELY wasn't three times in one night. If I almost died on a ONE wand expedition...."
"You won't. I'm...Coming physically with you."
Ianna paused. "P...Physically? How dangerous IS this thing, Matilda? What about Coailiann?!"
There was a long stretch of silence. "She'll be safe alone in my realm. Nothing can get to her."
Truly, Ianna knew Matilda was right - even if she didn't like it. "Well....I...Guess I have no choice, do I?"
There was yet another silence and Ianna sighed. "Very well."
The young woman stood and walked to the small portal, sliding the slumbering Coailiann in. It went straight into the crib Matilda had set up, and Matilda slid out, standing beside her mother looking more tired than ever.
"Very well then," Matilda said softly. "Shall we go?"
Ianna glared at her daughter. "You look as though death hit you, woman. What the hell is wrong?"
Truth be told, three wands awakening at once had shattered three shards of her very soul from her at the exact same time, causing her to almost collapse and pass out from the fire hot and excruciating pain. It also had greatly weakened her. Her decision to come with her mother, however, was purely selfish. Matilda wanted to get the wands which caused her so much anguish herself.
Of course, she could have done that WITHOUT bothering Ianna....but where was the fun in THAT?
"Where's the first one, Matilda?"
The tired Ancient eyed her mother for a moment before closing her eyes. "Mt. Olympus."
Ianna was silent and for once she did not argue. Matilda looked rather shot as it was. "Okay, lead the way."
With a pop, both of them arrived at their first destination.
The first wand, Pegasus, was surprisingly easy to find. Buried beneath a few boulders at the very top of the mountain.
"It's buried, Matilda."
Matilda gave a soft sigh. "So dig it out, mother."
Ianna shot a glare towards her daughter. "Easy for you to say Ms. All Powerful Ancient! Those boulders are three times my size!"
The Ancient stared at her mother for some time, looking rather pained and weary as she lifted a hand, the boulders lifting a few feet into the air. Her face contorted in some sign of discomfort and she let out a struggled "Hurry."
Noting her daughter's state, Ianna zipped beneath the boulders, half afraid they would fall on her, and snatched up the beautiful pearl wand. A minute later, the boulders started crashing down - Matilda's strength was failing her.
"Ah ********!" Ianna screamed, dropping to the ground and rolling down the rocky mountain side a few feet to escape certain death from the falling rocks. Sure, she tore up some skin and hurt her back - but at least she was alive.
"You okay?" Matilda asked, her face pale, her eyes half sunken in. "Yeah...Are YOU though?" Ianna asked, painfully standing up with the wand clutched in her hands before making her way to her daughter. "You look..."
"Horrible? Yes, getting three pieces of soul torn from you at the exact same time does that to a person...."
"There's no need to snap. You need rest before we find the others."
"No s**t." Matilda grumbled, "Even if I wanted to go right now, I don't think I could...."
Ianna gave a nod of her head. "Then rest, we'll get the others tomorrow."
"Good idea."
The Wings of a Horse - Part Two Well - One down, three to go. The Succubus, the Pegasus and the Nymph-thing wands had still yet to find homes. Then again, she had only just returned so the owners should just start feeling the tugs.
Wyvern was the first to go. Ianna's eyes turned to look at the three remaining which were sitting prettily behind her desk, where she was sitting. "Wonder which one of you will find your home now." she murmured, stroking at each of the 'shiny' wands she had.
Coailiann was napping in the headquarters - so she didn't have to worry about her acting up. This in itself was a blessing. The poor woman's arm still hadn't quite healed from the arrow it had received. Yachiru whined, sulkily gave up trying to pry herself free from Kierla's grasp, and snuggled in the embrace. Maybe it'd be best she just go to sleep, this was so boring. Who knew shopping trips could be so dull?
Just as Yachiru fell asleep, suddenly she felt a change in pace and direction. Blinking her eyes open, she observed that Kierla had stopped in front of a building, with shapes on it like in that - what was it? - that's right! book. "Murr!" she shrieked.
Kierla didn't hush her, gazing at the building so intensely, she might had distintigrated it right there on the spot. Instead she opted to just open the door, and step in. "Hello?" she greeted whoever was there. Standing in the doorway, dressed in black, she looked like an omen of death.Ianna's silver eyes looked quietly to the woman and the child. "Well. Hello there." came her voice, head nodding slightly. "Come in, what are you waiting for? You're letting the heat out."
A little snappy and rude still - you would be too if your arm was in a sling for the second time in a few months. "Now. Welcome to Ghosts of the Past."
A long pause as she seemed to be listening to someone who wasn't there. "Matilda, I'm NOT stupid."Stepping farther in, complying to the woman's orders, her eyes roved over the contents of this...place. "Isn't this 'The Wand Shoppe?'" she asked nonchalantly, as she set Yachiru down and observed the area.
Then her gaze flickered back to the woman. "My name is not Matilda. And I never said you were stupid."
The second she was in contact with the floor, Yachiru skittered off with glee, shreeing joyfully as she went, fluttering her wings slightly, causing random gusts of wind to twirl through the dust. "Murr!" she screeched again."It's Ghosts of the Past." Ianna said again, closing her eyes and taking a deep breath - before sneezing from the upraised dust. "And Matilda is my daughter, I was by no means talking to you when I said that."
A pause. "Come closer."
She knew the woman who had entered the room was a guardian - but to who? It seemed it would be the succubus...but...Who knows.Kierla held a pause to match the Ianna's own. "Why?" she questioned, a subtle layer of suspicion weaved in her tone. "What is your name, anyhow? And where is this, Matilda?"
Yachiru, meanwhile, didn't seem at all cautious of the woman. Sure, it was a stranger - fearsome strangers! - but her curiousity overrided her paranoia, and she hopped over and jumped up on the stranger's desk.. "Muuurrrr?" Was that the only word she could say?
Giving the barest suggestion of an exasperated sigh, Kierla moved forward, picking the bat girl up in her arms again. "Don't bother her, Yachiru."Ianna eyed the woman quietly for a long moment before answering her - "Ianna. And Matilda...Is not here. She's in another realm. I can, however, speak to her through a mind link."
She didn't seem phased by the little girl jumping on her desk and she chuckled softly. "Lo there sweetheart."
Perhaps she had a soft spot for children? It seemed so. "It's fine, I don't mind. But come closer, please. I'm sure you have questions and the book will answer.""Ah." Kierla nodded. "That explains it." She did not seem surprised by the concept of daughters in other realms and 'mind links'..and why should she? She had only recently moved to this world of Gaia, but already she was getting familiar with this wide variety of its inhabitants.
Yachiru babbled at Kierla, making a face, as if saying Seeee? She doesn't mind! Now let me go! Then she wriggled her way out of her auntie's hold, flopping back on the desk. She laughed gibberish until something caught her eyes. "PR'TY STICKSES!" she chittered excitedly, pointing one clawed wing at the wands.
Following Yachi's gaze, Kierla wondered privately how many more questions were going to surface during the time she remained here. That being so...
'The book will answer,' Ianna had said.
She came closer. "And, now what?""Yes, Pretty wands," she answered the little girl, "But they're not for you to touch."
Ianna smiled warmly and stroked at the girl's head gently before turning and looking to Kierla. "Touch the book."
The minute she would touch the book, the cover would fly open, an invisible wind winding through the pages and blowing them rapidly open until it landed, quite suddenly, on a well-worn page. On this page was a very realistic sketch of a wand with wings - the copy of which sat on the desk.
Under the picture read:
"Mt. Olympus. Wand ID 00012. A Soul has been trapped within the confines of the wand. Congratulations, you have become the next guardian to take on the task of raising it from infancy to greatness. We, Ianna and I, have the upmost faith in you to complete your task dutifully. Best of luck,
Matilda."Her gaze darting from the indicated book, to Ianna, to the wands, then back to the book again, she warily reached one hand forward.
Then, hesitantly, she placed it on the cover.
Immediately, it responded by flying open, the pages riffling through to a seemingly predetermined spot, before the invisible whirlwind stopped.
Yachiru, eyes wide, backed away and fell off the desk, to bump her head rather painfully. With her mouth open in a silent cry, she ran off to the nearest corner.
There, she proceeded to make her opinion of this strange and sudden occurence known, in the form of one long -
"EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!"
The pages settled, revealing a picture of...
A wand?!
There was text below, which Kierla proceeded to read aloud. "Mt. Olympus...wand ID 00012...a soul has been trapped within the confines of the wand." Kierla looked up at Ianna, careful to keep her face composed, despite the commotion. "Congratulations, you have become the next guardian to take on the task of raising it from infancy to greatness. We, Ianna and I, have the upmost faith in you to complete your task dutifully. Best of luck, Matilda."
She stepped back, mind reeling with the impact of...well, everything. For the first time in a very, very, very long time, bewilderment was expressed quite plainly on her features - gaping mouth, startled deer-in-the-headlights eyes, face draining to an even paler white than it had been before.
"WHAT THE HELL?"Ianna smirked a little bit at the woman's reaction - she did however squeek and cover her ears from the loud squeel. "YOU'RE A MOTHER!" she yelled over the loud noises that the child was emitting.
It wasn't as if she hadn't had to deal with ENOUGH the last week, but hearing the loud noises just made her head pound. "CONGRATULATIONS!"A mother.
Kierla = mother.
No, no, NO! That was wrong! It did not fit! It was like shoving water and oil in a bottle and trying to blend them together!
Her eyes now carried an almost crazed look now, and when she opened her mouth to utter a sharp, barking laugh, it came out strained and unusually high pitched. "WHAT IS THERE TO BE CONGRATULATED ABOUT?" she screamed back, completely ignoring the rising bawling of her niece.
Hey, congrats to Ianna, and Matilda, and the soul in the wand. You have just caused Kierla to completely lose her temper - and mind - for the very first time in her life.Ianna winced and clenched her fists, her one good arm's hand clinging to the desk, digging her fingers into the wood. "WILL YOU SHUT THE MOTHER ******** HELL UP!?" came the irrate woman's response to the hysterical one's screaming.
"I DO NOT NEED TO HEAR YOUR ******** SCREAMING AND FREAKING OUT I HAVE HAD ENOUGH OF A TIME THIS ******** WEEK ROLLING DOWN A ******** MOUNTAIN."
Okay. VERY few people had ever made Ianna yell - but the combination of screeching child and yelling woman and the bad week? Well that put her over the edge.Kierla calmed down. Instantly.
"Sorry," she said meekly, dipping her head in an apology.
Wow. Two firsts in five seconds; first time shouting like that, and now first time actually apologizing. This Ianna deserved a medal.
"Um." Kierla cast around for something else to placate the rather irritated woman. "So. How'd you get to be...rolling down a mountain?" She edged over to the screeching Yachiru, patting her head hastily in a feeble attempt to quell her crying. She recieved a bleeding hand for her trouble.Ianna breathed deeply to calm herself down. The apology had certainly done wonders to calm her temper, though her pale cheeks were now rather flushed from the anger she had felt.
"Finding the wands. Mt. Olympus. Also got show with an arrow." her eyes turned to her arm which was still in the sling, "It's not exactly the easiest thing in the world to do, and Matilda isn't much of a help."Kierla nodded sympathetically, dark red liquid dripping down her hand to land on the ground with a nasty plopping sound. "Mt. Olympus. And you were shot in the arm, too, I assume while getting some other wand? That's not good. I offer my deepest apologies you had to go to so much trouble to listen to my complaints.
"It's just...I don't think I'd be a very good mother," Kierla mumbled. "You sure I'm the right person?"
Yachiru didn't seem to mind the sight of Kierla's blood. In fact, she seemed quite intrigued by it; intrigued enough to stop crying.
"Finally," Kierla said in clipped tones, as the cries vanished. She had recovered the shock and returned to the emotionless mask that she had been before this...chaos.Ianna shrugged her shoulders and relaxed on her stool quietly. "It's my job, I do it for my daughter. No pay, and most of the time I don't know why I do it but..." she smiled a little. "Makes my girl happy I guess."
Ianna's silver eyes moved to watch the child before answering the question, "Why you? I can't answer that. The spirit chooses the guardian, not us. The book is connected to the spirit, and apparently you got the pegasus.""Is that what being a mother is like? Prepared to do anything to keep the child happy?" Kierla was not quite sure anyone could elict such a relationship from her. The closest who came to that was Yachiru and her mother - Kierla's sister - Kiarna.
Then Kierla's head shot up, shock reading in her eyes for the second time that day. "Pegasus?" she said sharply. She glanced at the book which the note from Matilda had been enscribed in. "Matilda didn't say anything about a pegasus!
"What is this place, anyways? You said Ghosts of the Past. Explain." She rubbed her eyes tiredly. "Please," she added, not wanting to prevoke any more shouting."Nope, but the wand contains the soul of a pegasus. The pegasus however will be mostly human in features with maybe one or two winged horse characteristics," a nod of the woman's head, "And yes...that's what being a mother's all about. I have two rugrats."
A soft giggle, "One's a Sidhe, one's a cold hearted witch...Also, to answer your question...This place is spelled to draw the guardians of the wands in. The actual headquarters is in a different realm."
Because Ianna didn't feel like having another hysterical episode, she simply stood and walked to the door to the side of the desk, "Follow me."
As they entered the main lobby Via the portal connecting the shoppe and the headquarters, the first thing they would notice is the vast...largeness...of it.
"Welcome to Headquarters, Kierla. You're welcome here at any time. " A vast difference from the dusty wand shop. Kierla made an indistinguishable noise in the back of her throat - perhaps a polite snort of disbelief. This 'mother' thing was going to take some getting used to.
"Sidhe, witch," she said instead, picking up on the next line of conversation. She didn't feel like making the effort of talking much of something that did not directly concern her life, however, so that was dead.
Headquarters. Now, that was interesting.
Following Ianna - dragging a sniffling Yachiru behind her - she passed through the door.
She couldn't help let out a gasp, despite her resolution not to let her guard down again. But the moment passed. "This is the HQ." It was not a question; merely a statement that expressed her (feigned) boredom, and unimpressed-ness.
Yachiru, however, was quite delighted with this new playground, and was not afraid to show it. "Muuuurrr!" she squealed, dashing over to the couch-chair-section, immediatly plopping herself down on one, bouncing up and down.
Kierla nodded, then collected Yachiru - who was disappointed when she was taken away from the comfy-things - with a "Thank you for your hospitality. When will the...soul...come out of the wand?"
She was eager to run all the way home (no, that would seem undignified and panicky) and just...think."Yes, this is headquarters...And it's always open," Ianna murmured, moving over to a sofa and sitting down on it carefully, "There will often be other guardians milling around, and there's a large garden area in the back."
A pause to listen to her question, "When you accept it."
And that was all Ianna said. When you accept it. The rather ominous words (at least, that's what Kierla thought of them) reverbrated around and around her mind, like the peal of a funeral bell.
"Thank you," she said courteously again, securing her grip on the restlessly whining Yachiru.
She was silent for a long moment. Her opaque eyes seemed colder than ever.
"I suppose I should go now, then?""If you so wish it, just don't forget the wand. It's sitting on the desk in the main shop - if you reject it, you will be responsible for a second horrible death. Of a child." Spinning around on her heel, the hem of her black cloak billowing malovently, Kierla seemed even more angry than when she was screaming. In all honesty, Kierla was quite tempted to do just that. In her opinion, Death was a wonderful thing - a whole new world to explore - and it would be a gift for the soul in the wand to die, yet again! What wonderful luck, this person has.
But, she had a strange feeling that nobody else - nevermind Ianna - would agree.
And so, she furiously snatched up the winged wand on her way out, and the shop was empty of her presence before anyone could say a single word.
