Well guys, I have some good news for you avatar fans out there! When Avatar the last airbender finished the creators of the show claimed that they would have another upcoming series based in the avatar universe, well here it is!
There is a new upcoming series called Avatar and the Legend of Korra which takes place in the avatar universe. The title was trademarked in May 2010 and it got leaked by the media shortly afterward. The series will take place 100 (they changed it to 70.) years from the Avatar the Last airbender. It was claimed that the show will have characters named Meelo and Wei Bei, and that Korra (gender is unknown) will be a water bender who is next in the avatar cycle from avatar Aang and that he will be Korra's mentor sort of like how Roku was to Aang.

Added July 21st 2009- Official Storyline- Avatar: Legend of Korra takes place 70 years after Avatar: The Last Airbender. Korra is the next Avatar after Aang, "a passionate, rebellious, and fearless teenaged girl" who is hotheaded, independent and "ready to take on the world" Korra comes from the Southern Water Tribe, and Aang's son Tenzin is her Airbending teacher.
One of the story's settings is Republic City, a "metropolis powered by steampunk-type technology," "inhabited by people from all nations." Here Korra must deal with rampant crime and an anti-bender revolt

* Korra is a girl.
* She is the current Avatar, after Aang.
* She will be a waterbender, from the Southern Water Tribe.
* Aang will mentor her from the spirit world, as Roku mentored Aang.
* She has mastered the elements Water, Earth, and Fire.
* Aang and Katara's son, Tenzin, will be Korra's airbending teacher.
* The series is set 70 years after the original series.
* There will be flashbacks of the original characters.
* More steampunk influenced.
* There is a revolution and prejudice between benders and nonbenders.
