The cool waters of the river where Fearthainn’s parents had first met showed an image of her that maintained her interest. Her body was angled sideways and her head craned to look down into the shallows. Her reflection bounced back as the face she had always remembered seeing but with a large round belly that she was still just becoming familiar with. The added weight and awkward shape had caused her once fluid walk to transform into a rather silly looking waddle. Within her she felt movement, new life growing and becoming whole inside of her. Craning her neck further she quickly reached back and touched her stomach with her nose. How she wished she could press her ear to her own belly or at least allow her nose to hover there a moment without discomfort. Her mother had pressed her ear to Ainn’s belly a time or two and an unusual, gleeful, smile had slowly grown on her mother’s face. Why was she smiling so? These things in her womb had no name, no face, no voice and no personality. Why then would her mother smile? She could understand her mother being happy once the foals were born but not now. Again directing her attention to the water she gazed at the reflection. She had met Alexiel on a whim one evening, she was just watching as the sun sank down over the mountains and vanished from sight and he had approached her. Never had she imagined that she would now be carrying his children.
He was quite a specimen though, his traits were strong and it would be interesting to see what the foals inherited. Her eyes flicked from her stomach to her back, wingless, how she wished she had wings. After meeting Alex and observing his wings she had desired some of her own, if only for a short while so she may see what the world looks like from above. Would her children have wings? Would they soar high and be able to tell their mother what the world looks like when flying? The thought brought an involuntary smile to her maw. Was this smile like the one her mother had when listening to her innards? Shaking her head she dipped her muzzle to the water and began drinking slowly. Her body had gone through many changes since she became pregnant. She was always hungry, always thirsty and a lot more emotional than ever before. The lack of rationality in this situation had begun driving her crazy, why would pregnancy cause such things? Were there more or less chemicals in her body? Sighing she drank deep and attempted to focus on one thing at a time.

The river was beautiful in its gentle stillness, and the surrounding area was pleasantly cool. The small usdia strolled alongside the water, she had no where to go nor an urge to move from the area - and so she stayed. Even to herself she was surprised her wanderlust brought her to the river and the nearby forests, but suddenly vanished. Ostara cleared her thoughts and concentrated on only the flowering fauna on the river's edge.
She mentally took note of the plants' appearances. Some were familiar and she had seen them before but every now and then she stumbled across a new specimen. When she did she would stop and observe it. It was quite a sight to see her constantly moving and stopping almost as if it were a game. Ostara laughed to herself thinking of just that.
The rosy mare was concentrating on her silly game so much so that she did not see the mare soquili up ahead. It was luck that a giant red flower caught her attention just feet away before she would have wandered right into the other female. She stopped and peered closely at the flower's center. 'Stara took a big whiff of its scent and quickly backed up as an angrily buzzing bee rocketed out of its core. "Oh!"
The flying insect circled her a few times, with a reprimanding buzz. Though it gradually gave up and left, most likely off to another flower. Ostara's eyes were still wide from the whole episode when she turned and finally saw she had company. Company with child. "Oh," a tad embarrassed at her mishap just moments earlier. "Hello! Congratulations on your coming arrivals."

Her ears snapped in the direction of the noise and she lifted her head, eyes scouring the surrounding for the source of the sound. When she saw no one before her she began wondering if pregnancy, aside from intense hunger and mood swings, caused hallucinations as well. Just as she had convinced herself it was nothing more than a chemical imbalance caused by her present state she heard a greeting issued to her along with a congratulatory remark. Her body stiffened a minute before she thought to look closer to the earth than to the sky for the one speaking to her. As her gaze lowered she took in the image of a pinkish looking Usidia. This was most definitely a first for her, never before had she encountered a miniature version of herself. Or was she the larger copy? Another question to add to the long list she had formed that still remained unanswered. Shaking herself mentally from her musings she smiled awkwardly and responded sweetly. “Why thank you…Uhm….What would be your name?” She asked gently. “I am Fearthainn.” Her words were snipped for she was struggling to keep from asking questions that may be offensive to the little mare before her.
A sharp little hoof to the inner wall of her womb caused her to wince ever so slightly. When she had first been pregnant she had never imagined it to be this painful. When she had told her mother of this concern she had merely begun to laugh. Apparently this wasn’t even the half of it, so Bella had told her. In truth she had begun to grow nervous about the day these two would enter the world, she couldn’t go chasing after Alexiel, begging him to stay by her side and watch the gore. Shaking off the kick she lowered herself tentatively to the ground, being wary not to displace the foals within. “I hope you don’t mind, they are restless and I find it much easier to lay down when they are like this.” She said with a small giggle. “I don’t quite understand what causes them to act up in this manner; after all, they can’t really see anything.” She added whilst looking at her belly. How odd this must seem to her company, a fat mare stretched out on the ground complaining about developing babies kicking around in her stomach. If the situation were reversed she would surely be firing off a hundred and one questions about now. She could have laughed at herself for the outlandish position she had rested in, her body had grown in size and was resting on the dirt, her head still up but craning to balance against the awkward weight. “I wouldn’t blame you for laughing.” She stated jovially.

"Fearthainn..." she rolled the name around trying to decipher its meaning. "That's a lovely name." She meant it genuinely. "Oh! Silly me, I seem to be scatter-brained today. I'm Ostara, nice to meet you."
The rosy mare took notice of the pregnant mare's discomfort. Her sympathy grew with her new acquaintance - though she had never been with child - it was just her way. Ostara watched Fearthainn sit down in a very awkward position, it didn't look comfortable but she took her word on it. "Oh no, please feel free to do whatever makes you most comfortable."
Ostara placed her rump on the ground beside her. "I don't have much experience with babies or pregnancy myself. Just bits and pieces of what I've picked up over the years. I do know that the foals can hear inside the womb...maybe they're excited because they hear their mother talking." She shrugged and smiled, "Though who's to know really."

“Ostara derived from a word meaning the eastward direction, also meaning dawn. The time of day when the sun rises from its sleep, lending warmth and comfort to those below. I find that is suits you quite well.” A warm smile touched her expression as she looked upon the little mare before her. She felt as though she could trust her, feel at ease around her. It wasn’t very often Fearthainn found a mare she could socialize with other than those within her own family. Her sister’s were excited about her pregnancy and lent her as much support as they could but they each had their own lives to lead, their own mates to pay attention to. Her father on the other hand was always tense around her, feeling as though she had betrayed him by not first allowing him to meet Alexiel. Just the thought of her winged mate caused her heartbeat to quicken and the foals within her belly to squirm.
“Thank you; this is my first pregnancy so I am a little uncertain of what to do or how to act.” She admitted modestly. “Well, perhaps you and I can learn some more together?” This was a new experience for Fearthainn, a new type of knowledge she was exploring and she didn’t mind having another to share it with. Upon Ostara mentioning that foal’s could hear within the womb she turned her gaze upon her swollen belly. “They can?” Her mother had said something to that effect but Fearthainn hadn’t taken must stock in it. Now that she had heard it twice it must hold water. A little giggle bubbled up within her. “I suppose I will have to start asking people to watch what they say then.” She joked. “Wouldn’t want them to pop out with a bunch of naughty phrases.”

"Oh," she blinked at the mare, "I never thought of my own name before. And thank you."
At Fearthainn's words she smiled. It certainly would be nice to learn more, and more so for the company it meant. Somewhere deep within her it stirred up some feelings that the little usdia couldn't quite pinpoint. All she knew was that each passing moon it seemed to grow.
"That would be wonderful. Pregnancy itself can be quite a miracle and absolutely mind-boggling at the same time." Ostara could tell from the start that the two would easily get along with their more studious outlooks, albeit a gentle debate or two might be sparked.
'Stara shared the soon-to-be mother's laugh. "Oh goodness. I could just imagine."
Her chuckle dissipated and her gaze rolled about the river's edge. "This is a good place to raise foals," and the thought slipped out before she had realized how she'd meant it - to herself. "Oh, well that is if you and your mate live near here that is", she quickly added.
