I've taken a habit of tabbing and writing in big books about the Craft. It makes the research, of how other poeple view things, easier. Writing also lets me remember what I was thinking at the time. I also don't feel bad about marking in books because I can find the same books at a discount book store or if it cheap enough, I can purchase another one.
What are your thoughts on this?

Yep I definitely do both, Im always out buying little tabs for my books, and smaller books to write notes in when needed too. Its my favorite way to keep track when I'm cross referencing a single subject.
