Eeva had spent the morning grooming her fur on the rounded bank of the stream, enjoying a moment of peace and quiet. Most of the Shadow Clan had gone out for a hunting trip and she'd opted to stay behind this time. Her new brothers and sisters were very cute, but they were certainly noisy little things!
Her family was so big now she almost struggled to remember the names of her own siblings. Almost.
In any case, she had opted to stay behind and 'man the fort' as it were. Rehema and Ona'raha had agreed, both waiting anxiously for one of their daughters to return from her trip out into roguelands. She'd only been gone a couple of days and Takuma had promised to have her back within the week.
They worried too much, their parents.
But...now she was starting to worry, too. How could she so easily have said yes to this stranger and allowed him to take care of her little sister? Had she put Laka in danger because she had wished to have such adventures in her youth?
She moved slowly away from the Shadow Clan now, out towards the border where she had parted from the grey. In any case, she had to accept the responsibility. She had allowed it and, if Laka was gone longer than the week, she'd have to make the journey out to find her...probably with her brother alongside her. But she hoped it wouldn't come to that. Takuma had been a good sort, she had felt. He'd bring her home. Sometimes being 'responsible' really was a drag...

If only Skan could hear Eeva's last thought, he would heartily agree. The weight of being the leader had shrunk when his father had returned alive, reborn. But the realization that Tawa'di would not be taking over, only helping with the most important things had weighed down heavily on the male. He still felt like he didn't have a strong idea of what he was doing, as there wasn't much of a basis to go off of. Tawa'di had been the leader, but he had never really...done everything a leader should do. Not the meaner things, like making sure everyone was safe, cubs stayed away from the borders. He had so many ideas, all of them just wanting to keep the pride safe. Growing up with stories from the past had made him hopeful that they could return to their original lands, but the realization that this was their home now made it seem like a silly, cubbish dream.
His thoughts so caught up in youthful memories, he almost missed the lioness before him. She seemed familiar, but only in looks; he hadn't a clue on her name. "Ah, sorry about that," he apologized with a nod of his head. "I didn't mean to wander so close to you." He took a few steps back, offering a polite nod. "Too caught up in my thoughts, like always."

She lifted her head, startled for a moment. However, the expression smoothed into a warmer one and she regarded skan with a widening smile. She had never met him personally, but she knew him by name...and by title.
He was Skan Kanati, the Wanidatsi of the Ela'wadiyi.
She bowed her head a little at him and then spoke. "Likewise." A pause. "Heavy thoughts, perhaps, Skan Kanati? I know my own weigh me down a little more than usual today. I feel old before my time! All this worrying will give me grey fur even before my parents have any of their own!" She gave a quiet laugh, thinking back to her worry-free childhood and suddenly yearning desperately for those days to return. But it made her unhappy to think that, for surely wishing responsibility on another was a selfish thing?
She sighed and lifted both ears, smiling. "Oh, apologies, my name is Eeva Subiani, daughter of Ona'raha and Rehema. Alu'nadi of the Shadow Clan."
