The large wolf didn't pace, persay, but strolled through the shadows the trees cast off, ground dappled by sunlight. Possum had spent the last few months kind of just wandering, going from one place to another with no real clue of where he was going. He stuck around Akiiki Chibale, as he liked Alas's company and loved the gossip from pack to pack. He was a natural gossip hound, though he was merely a listener. Never an accomplice. Word was, Musketeer's daughter, Moranna, had been stolen away from AC lands by Twist's crazy son, Tornado. But Tornado was now dead...and Moranna was still nowhere to be found. Possum just hoped for the little wolf's sake that she'd somehow found a savior...

With a yawn, the brown-and-cream wolf padded forwards with his head and tail level -- never high, he was beta-material, had he a pack, but he wasn't one to show it off unless it was needed. You know...he had met one wolf on his journeys that he'd actually enjoyed the company of (not that he didn't enjoy anyone else's, just that he didn't enjoy it as much)... Her name was Calandra. He'd been a teenager when they'd met; she would never have eyes for someone like him. The age difference was too large. Still, it'd be nice to see her again, anyways?

This part of the forest was less dangerous to Cali. They had passed Akiiki Chibale sometime back, skirting the packlands rather than stopping in for a visit. Calandra had noticed that Evadne, at least, had been even more eager to push forward after the horrific and disappointing finding at their old pack's dens. So, although Calandra would have liked to stop in and greet Alas, she opted to move around it and save her greetings for another time.

There was another pack out this way, if she remembered correctly, but she had never heard much about it except one passing reference. That had led Cali to believe it was small, and thus perhaps not even a pack any longer, but she had to find somewhere to continue the search. Indeygo and Evadne were counting on it. She smiled slightly and glanced at her son. They would be all right, given time.

She glanced up ahead and noticed brief stirring in the ground cover. Something large-- perhaps one of the Akiiki wolves-- had passed through here. ... Or, perhaps, one of the local families loosely attached to Akiiki or that other pack, Agua Azul. A smile crossed her face as she thought of Possum, and his slightly daunting mother. She hadn't had the time in the past few months to think of him much, but he'd been one of the few wolves to stay with her on her sojourn away from Outriders for longer than a few hours. That sort of thing left a mark in one's memories.

Evadne stayed close to her mother this time, although her eyes rarely strayed from the trees ahead of them. She wanted to push forward. As far forward as they could go away from the dead pack. Dead. She had accepted it, but that it had been left in that condition... No one was alive. Or if they were, they weren't going back there. That meant they had to find her siblings somewhere else, and she was determined to prove they weren't dead.

A soft sigh escaped her and for the first time in hours she glanced down at her paws, absently comparing hers to her mother's slightly smaller paws. When had she gotten bigger than Mom? Well, maybe the same size, but she was still growing if her paws said anything. She turned her olivine eyes to Calandra and glanced at Indeygo for good measure. At least she still had family. She hoped her siblings-- when she found them-- had had the same advantage.

"We've passed those pack lands, haven't we?" She asked. She saw Calandra glance at her, and then nod. Her siblings weren't there, so she had no problem passing those lands by. That had been the pack Cali had checked with so soon after finding them, so unless her siblings had shown up later, it was a pointless stop. The next pack would, hopefully, yield some kind of direction for their trio to head in to find one of her sisters or brothers.

It was generally a good idea for Indy to watch where he was going - when you were as clumsy as he was it was perfectly reasonable to expect the very land you walked on to leap up and bite you if you looked away for a few moments.

That of course did not always mean Indy played by that rule and after the terrible disappointed they'd had a while ago the purple wolf seemed to be having a good deal of difficulty trying to get it off his mind. He hadn't even known they had passed a pack's lands until his mother and sister discussed it and lifting his head slightly to listen better he tripped...of course..and practically plowed right into Eva's hind end. Back pedalling to try and avoid hitting her so rudely he hit a tree root and ended up plopped down on his rear end in a rather undignified fashion. Why couldn't he be graceful like other wolves?

Eva turned and stared at her brother as he stumbled backwards and ended up sitting down hard on his hindquarters. It took her a moment, but she smiled and shook her head. He was always getting himself into trouble like this, but she hoped this time it was only some bruised pride that she had to worry about.

"Indy. Are you okay?"

She walked back over as her mother turned to look and waited by her brother for him to pick himself back up. "Come on, I know you have better balance than that." Okay, that was a lie... but Indy always thought so poorly of his coordination, and Eva was an older sister. She had the right to worry about him and lie if it would help make him feel better.

Possum continued his stroll...before voices made him glance up and around, suddenly on alert, though he hardly looked it. He flicked his ears, olivine eyes focusing on the trees as he waited for another voice to filter through to him. There. There it was; feminine. Young. He hoped for her sake that she wasn't just talking to herself. Either way, it was something to do, so the big wolf padded forwards, finding them easily.

They were jewel-toned, violet and royal blue, with gangly teen limbs and long tails. And then he saw her; Calandra... "Cali..." He let the word escape his maw as he stood there, uncertain to if she'd want to see him again, suddenly filled with a fluttering nervous sensation that was uncharacteristic of himself. Geez, Possum, he chided himself, You're an adult now, quit acting like a pup. He straightened and nodded. "Are these your children?" What a brightly colored father, if she had birthed these youngsters, indeed.

"Possum," she said, openly surprised. The last time she had seen the male had been when he was litter more than a large teen, escorting her home to the Outriders. She had thought of him several times since, but raising two pups had taken up a great deal of her time.

"Ah, yes. This is my daughter, Evadne, and my son, Indeygo. Say hello," she instructed her children without looking away from him. She continued once they had done as she asked. "I don't know when you spoke to Alas last, but Evadne and Indeygo were the pups I found the last time I came through. Since we couldn't," she glanced at her children sadly, their recent visit to the old pack a fresh memory, "Find their parents, I happily took them in." She smiled at them lovingly and then looked back to Possum, her smile extending to one that was friendly rather than maternal. "It's good to see you."

"I'm fine,I'm fine" Indy assured his sister and mother with a slightly sheepish look on his face as he pulled himself back to his feet and -carefully this time- stepped over the tree root that had foiled his efforts before.

He might have said more to reassure them that he was indeed fine - save perhaps for a bit of bruised pride - if a strange wolf hadn't appeared out of no where and sent such thoughts flying elsewhere in his mind while his eyes widened slightly. Of course he should have expected another wolf to appear at some point, they were after all traveling past several packs as they'd discussed earlier... but the appearance still startled him somewhat andi t wasn't until his mother answered that the purple wolf realized he'd called Calli by name and must know her. Well that made things a bit less stressing now didn't it? And mother seemed to be calm in his presence so it was unlikely he was a mean wolf right? "Hello" He parroted obediently as he skulked about behind his mother and sister...just in case.

Eva watched her brother step over the root, but the sound of paws made her turn. The wolf who had arrived was clearly male and Eva took in his appearance even as she took up a protective position between Indeygo and the new arrival. Her mother's startled acknowledgment of the wolf eased her a bit, but since he was still a stranger to Eva, she stayed where she was.

"Hi," she greeted, taking the opportunity afforded by her mother's talking to get an impression of Possum. She wasn't aware her mother knew anyone out this far except for Alas, although she probably shouldn't be surprised. Cali had traveled a great deal both before Outriders and while she was with them. Well, that must make Possum okay, at least, if her mother was still on cordial terms with him. The rest of her tension flowed away and she looked back to Cali, returning her smile. She offered Possum a smile of his own, and a small tail-wag as well.

Possum's smile broadened as he looked at Calandra--the girl--scratch that, woman--he'd thought about on and off for the past year. She was still the petite little wolfess in warm, rich browns and creams... And those eyes. Eyes that could make even him swoon. He gave his tail a low wag as he surveyed the teenagers, brilliant blue and deep violet... "They were lucky, then. I'm sure you're a wonderful mother," he said softly, easing his big body into a sit, tail wrapped around his paws. "Hello there," he said amiably to the teens, knowing better than to talk to them like they were pups. "I'm Possum. I'm a friend of your mother's."

Back to Cali... "It's wonderful to see you. I didn't think you'd ever come back to visit me..." His tone was teasing, head tilted to the side in a playful manner, though his face twitched visibly. He shook his head to ward off the feeling, his smile never wavering; he knew Calandra wouldn't judge him...

"Of course I would come to visit. There just hasn't seemed to be a lot of time this past year." She smiled, ignoring the twitch of his face. He'd had those when she had known him last as well. She supposed they were just a part of him; they wouldn't ever go away. "We're on an adventure now, though, so we were able to pass through. I'm glad we ran into you."

"Are you keeping more to the pack now, or still living out of the way? How are your parents?"

She wished she had a little more time to stay, but she knew that Indeygo and Evadne would be eager to move on soon. Just a little bit, she regretted the need to go so quickly. It would have been nice to catch up with him. She'd just have to learn as much as possible now, before they moved on to the next pack.

Eva quietly sat back and let her mind drift away from the conversation. She didn't know this Possum, so his life and what changes there were probably wouldn't affect her, unless he mentioned finding a brightly colored orphan pup. It was just a matter of waiting politely while Mom finished talking to him.

Actually, there was apparently a lot to talk about and if her comment about wanting to visit were true, he wasn't just some stranger. There had to be some friendships started on the road, anyway. Eva turned her olive eyes to the back of Cali's head. Mom almost seemed like she was trying to pack week's worth of conversation into a few minutes so they could get moving. As if she wanted to really stay and catch up.

Oh.

Eva glanced at Indeygo, fairly sure he hadn't had the same idea. Part of her was embarrassed that she had thought of it at all, but it was obvious that Mom wanted to stay to talk and Eva wanted to make this journey on her own, like the responsible almost-adult she knew she was.

"Mom, you know..." She tried to look earnest as her mother turned her warm teal eyes to her daughter. "If you wanted to stay and catch up with Possum and the Akikii Chibale pack, Indeygo and I can make it to the next pack on our own. The other pack is pretty close, right? We'll be fine." The last sentence was said in a slight rush, as Eva saw her mother opening her mouth to protest.

"It depends on the day and my whim," he admitted a little sheepishly. "But I've been sticking close to Akiiki Chibale since the war." Alas had needed him...and although his blood lingered with Agua Azul, his heart lingered with the pink healer she-wolf. He'd fought for them when he'd been needed. His hindquarters showed minimal scarring--otherwise you couldn't tell he'd been in a battle. He could've easily gotten them from a scrap, though anyone who knew Possum knew he was a peaceful creature.

He smiled. "And my parents are as fiesty as ever..." But he broke off as the little blue teen--Evadne?--began to chirp up. He glanced between Evadne and Calandra, then over to the seemingly shy violet teenager--Indi?--and back to Calandra. When he heard what Evadne was suggesting, a grin lit up his pallid green eyes. "You would be welcome in AC, of course," he quickly said, tail wagging. "And I would...enjoy your company."

Calandra looked at Evadne, almost ready to chastise her for trying to impose on Possum-- and get rid of her mother-- but Possum's response distracted her. She looked over to him, catching her gaze in his eyes. A hot flush shivered over her body at Possum's clear excitement with the idea. The way he hesitated to say 'enjoy' hinted at all sorts of other meanings that Cali wasn't sure he meant to imply.

Suddenly remembering her children, she glanced away and swallowed, her face calm although she was feeling anything but. From the look on Evadne's face, Cali thought her daughter was finding her mother's distraction amusing.

"YMCA is friendly, so I'm sure you should have no trouble once you reach their lands, but I'm still hesitant about letting you go on your own." She saw Evadne open her mouth and cut her off. "Eh! But." Calandra paused and watched Evadne wiggle for a moment before looking at Indeygo. Her son needed so much looking after...

"I would be willing to let you go on ahead if you promise to keep an eye on one another and stay safe. I'll check in with the YMCA Alphas to make sure you made it there safely, even if you've moved on by then. You will," she paused to make sure they understood her stress, "Return to the Outriders within a year, if I miss you at YMCA. If you don't I'm going to come looking for you. Do you understand?"

"We understand," Evadne agreed immediately. She stood still, not daring to look or move away from her mother until Calandra had given the go ahead. She was so- excited! They were going to get to go off on their own! They could move at their own pace, no restrictions but those of packs they went through, and they wouldn't have to worry about censoring their mouths in front of Mom either. This was going to be amazing.

Evadne watched Calandra nod slowly and smiled brightly, hurrying forward even as Indeygo did to nuzzle her mother. The children crowded around her, showing her affection.

"Thank you, Mom." Evadne rested her head on Cali's shoulder. "We'll be back, don't worry."
