User ImageThe sun was beginning to set. The day had been hot and dry. Now, the nightlife of the city was beginning to wake and prepare for another night. Meadow's mother, Nightheart, was getting ready for a stroll in the city. Meadow didn't see what her mother saw, though. Nature was nicer, in her opinion.

That was why she'd left earlier for a walk in the nature near the city. Now, she was watching the sun set in a patch of clovers, similar to a marking on her hips. She noticed an odd one, however.... she plucked it from the ground.

"A four leaf clover is always lucky....." she said to herself. Sometimes, she wished for someone to share her days with. A friend, or maybe even a mate. Her mother was good enough, but she just didn't click with the black and pink hexadragon. She didn't know why, even though she'd grown up with her.

She knew that her mother wasn't her mother though. There was no way a black and pink hexadragon could have mated with any dragon and not gotten a hatchling that at least had similar markings or a few black or pink scales. Especially not with Kinark, her surrogate father. As far as Meadow knew, however, she was the only living child of whoever her birth mother was. If she'd had to abandon her, how would she be able to keep others? Siblings sounded annoying, anyway, so Meadow didn't really think about siblings.

In fact, even if she met another dragon with a clover marking, she'd shrug it off as coincidence and not immediately assume they were related. After all, there were probably plenty of dragons who had clover markings.

Valore was on his own again tonight.

Not by necessity, though- his mother was more than happy to take care of him. Well, his surrogate mother. He had been raised by a friend of his birth mother's, because his birth mother wasn't very responsible. And he loved Azalaea, his surrogate, just like a real mother. But sometimes he wished he could have had his birth mother, Clover, take care of him. But he learned early that you can't have everything you wanted in life.

But this was one thing he could have: a night to himself. Though Azalaea was much opposed to it, he was a fully grown dragon and could take care of himself. And so he had set off into the fields nearby the town; he had always loved nature. He refused to believe, though, that it was because of his markings- that was simply his inheritance from his birth mother. And probably my only inheritance from her, he thought to himself.

Lost in thought, it was a few moments before he realized where he was: it was a field full of his mother's namesake, clovers, and a dragon...

He did a quick double take. Another dragon? And female from the look of it...And he even thought he could see a marking on her side similar to his. It's probably a coincidence though, he thought. Lots of dragons probably have markings like mine.

Ignoring the feeling his gut was giving him, he walked over casually and greeted the other dragon.

"Hi," he said. "I don't believe I've seen you around here before- Is that a four-leaf clover?" he asked incredulously, seeing the little plant in the other dragon's claws. "Lucky, I haven't found one of those in ages!"

Meadow noticed another dragon approaching. Odd, she could have sworn she'd decided to try go for a slightly more secluded field.... okay, fine, this one was easily findable... Anyway, other dragon. Male, with a clover marking just like hers. Interesting.

When he approached, and drew attention to the clover she had found, she said, "Why yes, yes this is a four-leaf clover. Although, I actually tend to find them even less than most, in my opinion. You just happened to catch me on a good day."

Valore chuckled a bit. "And if I had caught you on a bad day, what exactly would that entail?" he asked in a slightly playful tone. He was glad he had someone to talk to; it seemed like the other dragon was about his age.

Remembering his manners, he quickly added, "My name's Valore, by the way. Sorry for intruding on your spot."

Meadow smirked, and said "Oh, most likely some black cats hanging around, several mirror shards scattered here and there, maybe a ladder to walk under." Meadow liked the company of the male already. He seemed like someone she could get along with at least decently. The male seemed to be around her age. Again, interesting. She shrugged it off, however.

"Valore...." she said, testing the name out. "I'm Meadow, pleasure to meet you. And it's fine, I enjoy company."

"Meadow, eh," Valore said. "A pleasure to meet you. And a day like that sounds interesting at the very least...Let me know if you ever have one, alright?" Valore couldn't put his finger on it, but for some reason he liked this dragon already.

"So what brings you out to this field? I don't usually see others around here, dragon or otherwise."

"Alright, I'll be sure to let you know." she said.

"Oh, no reason really. My mother offered to take me out with her on one of her nightly strolls, but I guess I just like the fields better. I like to explore, so whenever I get out of the city, I try to go to a new place each time." she explained, a thoughtful look in her eyes. She'd never known why she liked the fields better, because she liked them even better than the forest. She'd never known why she liked nature better when she'd been raised by a hexadragon who often went out in the city at night as opposed to outside the city.

"What brings you out here?"

Valore chuckled. "What I wouldn't give to have a mom like yours," he said under his breath. He sighed slightly, then replied, "That's pretty cool. I prefer the forests myself, but hey, to each his own, right?"

"As for me, I have a few memories in this field myself," he said, but he quickly tried to divert his comment. "First time I was introduced to nature, you know?" It was true- this was the very field his surrogate mother had introduced him to first. But it was also where she let slip that it was where she "found" him, which lead to him asking what she meant by that, which lead to...

Valore shook his head, then looked back at Meadow. "So do you plan to stay long out here, or...?" He left the question hanging in the air, looking at her expectantly.

Meadow didn't notice the words said under Valore's breath. "Right."

"The first time I was introduced to nature was when my mother took me out to show me the place that she and my father first went together to look at the stars." Meadow remembered the stories Nightheart would tell her of how she and Kinark became mates. The tales were quite romantic, and Meadow would notice that Nightheart would become lost in the happy memories.

"Oh, I don't feel much like leaving, especially with such pleasant company."

"That's a very romantic sort of story," Valore said lightheartedly. "But I think the two of us, as new friends, could watch the sunset as just that...Friends?" He looked at Meadow expectantly, wanting very much to spend more time with her yet at the same time at a loss for words.

Making over-exaggerated looks around the field, Valore chuckled under his breath. "Well I know you don't mean me, all we've done is talk about bad luck and our parents," he craned his neck to look upside down over his back, "So did you bring your boyfriend out here or something?"

Meadow smiled at that. "I'd like that. So, yes. Friends."

Meadow chuckled, "Of course I mean you. You've been making me smile for the amount of time I've known you. Which is about... five, ten minutes?" she chuckled lightly again. "Ahh, I don't have a boyfriend. It's just me and you tonight."

"I'm delighted," Valore said, and he meant it. He hadn't had a friend his age in such a long time...

Valore looked at her, smiling. "A lovely dragon such as yourself and no one to call your own?" he asked incredulously. "Now this is one mystery I can't bear not to hear," he said playfully. "Come on, spill it!"

"Oh, I suppose I just haven't found a dragon that I'd want to be around for long periods of time... I suppose I take after my mother in that respect, often preferring solitude over the company of another. I'm surprised that she liked my father enough to want to be with him..." It was true. Although not her birth mother, Meadow had still gotten certain aspects of her personality simply from being raised by Nightheart. Though, she still liked nature over her mother's preference of the city. "So far, you seem to be someone I don't mind... in fact, you're still pleasant company."

"And we're back to talking about parents, eh?" Valore asked with a chuckle. He wasn't quite willing to talk about his own parental situation yet, so he grabbed on to the rest of what she had said. "Oh, from what people tell me I'm not very interesting for long," he said in a mock saddened voice, "Tell me I'm dreadful company...I'm glad I've found someone who thinks differently, though!" he said cheerfully. "Do let me know if you think I'm becoming uninteresting though, won't you?" he said with a wink.

"Haha, I guess I just keep bringing parents up, huh?" Meadow said. She usually didn't talk much of her family or herself really.

"Alright, I'll be sure to let you know." she said, grinning. She doubted he would become boring, not for awhile yet. Usually, she could tell by now whether someone was going to be likeable or not.
