Txur stretched luxuriously, and that felt so good he decided to do it again. Once all the kinks had worked themselves out he turned and looked around. Most of the rest of the family was stirring or making ready to go about their daily tasks. It appeared that he'd slept in that morning, as the only one not making any movements to get up and get out was his sister, Atan.
His gaze rested on her for several moments and he smiled. Sleepy sister, he thought to himself. Although he could not remember a time when any sort of threat had been posed to him or his family, it pleased him that he and his siblings were safe where they were and provided for in such a way that it was unnecessary for them to keep long hours and work strenuously to survive. Their father had brought them to a good place in taking them to the Iknimaya.
"Hey, Atan," he hissed, swinging close enough to her to prod her with one paw, claws definitely sheathed. "Wake up. It's a beautiful day under the canopy and we should do something."
It was absolutely unfair of him to do that to her. He knew it. It didn't bother him. If he allowed her to sleep as much as she'd like to, he'd never get to spend any time with her, and that would be a shame. Besides, there were some things he wanted to ask her about in the manner of interested brothers everywhere. It wasn't nosiness, he told himself, since he was asking because he cared, and not just to satisfy curiosity.

Atan was the type to sleep in. Rolling around her arms stretched, but she was still enjoying her catnap. She was completely unaware of her brother, who was watching her. She was in the process of waking up as she began to lick her paw, more in her sleep then anything. When he poked her and spoke…her white eyes fluttered open as she gave him a ‘******** of b***h’ look. Why was he waking her!?
Groaning she rolled on her side, still glaring at him a bit before she stretched some more, hiding her head under her paws. “Aaaah Txur! What is it? Why are you waking me brother?” she asked him, obviously preferring to sleep then get up so ‘early’.
“And what exactly are you planning to do anyways?” she asked him as she dropped her paws from her face.

Well. That was easier than Txur had expected it to be. He'd anticipated that Atan would roll away from him or swat at him, or something more active than simply hiding her head. He'd never really understood that particular reaction. Was it the result of a thought process which went, "If I can't see it, it can't see me"? Txur knew things didn't work like that, though he'd known a few occasions where he'd closed his eyes and hoped for just that. He'd been younger then, however, and no longer expected it to work now that he was more grown up.
"I'm waking you because it's morning," he said, as though this was the most obvious point in the world and she really should have come up with it on her own.
Almost as an afterthought, he added, "Also, because I wanted to talk to you."
He shrugged. He wasn't sure where the urge had come from, but he had more or less woken up wanting to talk to Atan, even though he wasn't one hundred percent sure what he wanted to talk to her about. He assumed something would occur to him.
"I thought we could take a walk or something. I don't know. Nothing too strenuous." He smirked as he added the last bit. "Come on, it'll be fun."

Atan sighed when he continued to speak. Geez he never shut up did he? “Eeeh what about?” she asked yawning as she let out a big ‘kitty stretch’ before sitting up, still looking awfully sleepy. Atan was a slow starter when waking up, it was just part of who she was after all. What could her brother want to speak about?
“Walk? Fine fine.” said Atan as she stood up and walked out of the den. Ugh she hated being disturbed in the morning, but never the less it was bound to happen, even if it was just her brother doing it. Next time she might be urged awake by her father, or someone else. Who knew. “So, tell me what is it you wish to speak to me about?” she asked her brother, still yawning occasionally.

And the surprises continued to pile on top of one another. Txur could hardly believe how readily Atan agreed. Perhaps it was because she wasn't fully awake. It was probably unfair of him to take advantage of her in this way, but sometimes a person had to use whatever advantages were given to them and hope that the balance would even out in the end. And also hope that the other person wouldn't see fit to swat them once they were fully aware of what they had agreed to.
"I don't know. I guess it would sound silly to say that I miss you?"
It probably did, he granted, but at the same time he really did miss her. It seemed he was frequently busy doing one thing or another, though he had no idea how his days had become so filled. Most of the time he was awake and gone long before she began to stir and he didn't see her during the day because their separate interests and activities kept them apart. Sometimes they didn't even dine together, for though families were important to the Iknimaya, schedules weren't always flexible.
"I mean," Txur said, trying to justify himself, "you are one of my sisters, and I almost never get to talk to you. I have no idea what's going on in your life, what you're planning to do when we choose how we'll train, or even who your friends are. I feel like a neglectful brother."

Atan was too tired to care. But she did want to know what compelled her brother to wake her when she knew how much she hated it! She just figured the sooner they finished, the sooner she could get back to sleep! She yawned while walking, her eyelids still seeming to be quite heavy.
“Miss me? You see me every day how can you miss me?” she asked him between yawns. He wasn’t making much sense, she was right here, and she was in the den before. Its not like kshe went anywhere.
“well if its chatting you want, cant it happen while im awake?” she asked him as she walked beside her brother. “I know we study different things but its not like we will never see one another or anything. We will still get to see each other daily, I am not leaving the pride so unless you are I don’t see what there is to miss.” she said with a shrug of her shoulders.

Txur's tail twitched in mild irritation with his sleepy sister. He knew, logically, that he shouldn't have expected her to be friendly and willing to speak after being woken up, but it did irritate him that she wouldn't at least make an effort. It wasn't as though he asked so much from her. Consciousness and conversation.
"Sure I see you," Txur muttered. "I see you sleeping. If I were to wait for you to wake up to talk to you, I'd never get to talk to you."
His good mood was rapidly dissipating. No matter how much he loved his family, being so thoroughly shut down was enough to put anyone in a foul humor. His twitching tail gave evidence of this, in spite of his efforts to control it. He sometimes joked with his friends that lions must have a second brain controlling their tails which refused to work in conjunction with the brain in their heads. So much was unconsciously given away through body language.
He sighed in a sharp huff and stood up. "You're right. I don't know what there is to miss about you, either. I might say the color of your eyes, since they're so rarely open, but otherwise there's not much about you worth missing."
He immediately regretted what he'd said, but he wasn't in a hurry to take it back, just the same. Txur didn't lie, and he didn't tend to apologize for telling the truth during those rare instances when his mood was foul.

Hmm…he did have a point…but did she REALLY have to get up so EARLY? Oh well… that was her brother. Up with the sun. “Mmmm…I guess. But I mean I always come back before bed…and even when I get my own den one day we will still see each other daily likely. Its not like the pride is huge or anything.” said Atan. But she figured if her brother wanted ‘sibling time together’ she might as well comply right? She liked her brother and all, she just got grumpy in the mornings.
But when he suddenly insulted her she gave him a frown and a glare. “Txur! How dare you say such a rude thing! I might as well go back if htat’s how you are going to act! Jeez I don’t LIKE being up but I got up ANYWAYS. So excuse me for being a bit grumpy! But that was uncalled for! I thought father taught you better!” their father would never say such a thing! How rude!
Atan stopped walking, unwilling to move forward if that’s how her brother was going to act!

Justified though she was, Atan's outburst didn't exactly cause Txur to feel any more remorseful. If anything, he felt more resentful. He had been taught better, and he knew their father would be disappointed when and if he heard about Txur's behavior. However, in a fit of uncharacteristic teenage rebellion Txur decided he didn't care. Maybe Rajanya should have impressed more firmly upon his cubs the importance of cooperation and compromise.
"I don't want to fight about this," he said, his tail twitching as he stepped backward and away from his sister. His unruly mane fell into his eyes and he shook his head irritably to clear his vision. Adolescence was a misery in so many ways. His limbs felt too long, his tail was completely out of control, and his emotions swung about like monkeys. He couldn't wait to be an adult.
"This was clearly a mistake. Go back to sleep. I'm sure I'll see you around. As you say, the pride isn't huge." So saying, he turned and walked away before he could say anything else which he would later regret. He wondered if Petra was free. He would have liked to talk to her, and ask her to explain why his sister had to be such a pain.

“Oh don’t go moping around Txur.” said Atan with a stretch and a yawn. “I am already up so let’s just do what you wished to do alright?” she said to her brother. She frowned hwne he began to walk away, he could be such a baby sometimes. Crouching down, Atan grinned. There was a good think about being trained as a hunter. Precision.
Taking aim Atan lept at her brother, aiming to tackle him to the ground. Whether she succeeded in this or not, Atan found herself chuckling and rolled onto her feet then sat down. “Now are you ready to quit moping? We are out so let’s do something.” said Atan smiling at her brother. She knew he could be sensitive at times, and she was up already so they might as well spend time together as he had originally intended.

Txur narrowly escaped being tackled, and turned quickly to his sister, his lips drawn back from his teeth, halfway to a snarl. His mood was definitely not good anymore, and her attempt to draw him out of it had only made it worse.
It was only with an effort that he kept the rasping growl which thrummed in his chest out of his words when he said through gritted teeth, "Atan. Leave it. The offer has been rescinded. I do not want to do things with you today."
That was as plain and clear as he could put it, and if she didn't listen, he wasn't sure he had the control over his temper that he would have liked to keep himself from actually snarling at her. There was nothing more to say, in his opinion, and nothing more he wanted to say. At this point, he just wanted to stalk off and nurse his wounded adolescent whatever until he'd sulked himself out.
"Leave me alone," he said, just to make it very clear what he wanted, in case he hadn't done so before. He was no longer in any state to visit Petra, either, which annoyed him further. He would have liked an excuse to see her. Congratulations, Atan, he thought unkindly. You have successfully ruined my day.

Atan folded her ears back and let out a growl at her brother. “Stop that Txur! You are acting like a baby!” she shouted at him. She didn’t want to leave it. She should but she wanted him to quit acting like this! “Stop taking everything so seriously! Considering how RUDE you are being you are lucky I am so patient!” she was getting more and more angry at her brother, if they weren’t related she might have gotten into a physical fight with him.
Atan was not happy with how immature Txur was acting. Sure, she whined when he woke her up, but he should have known she wasn’t being seriously. Who shoved a stick up his bottom to make him be so on edge? “What’s bugging you? You don’t normally act like this. You should know I wasn’t being serious! So what’s up with you?” was it the hormones from adolescence?
It wasn’t HER fault it was ruined. He was the one who chose to act like a toddler who didn’t get what he wanted! Atan was still frowning and wondering what had bugged her brother so much to cause him to get so moody!

It's fine. But I really don't think Atan should keep pressing him. He's not in a mood for her anymore.
"I'm lucky?" Txur hissed. "I'm lucky that my sister is willing to wake up at some point while it's still daylight to spend some time with me after I make a fuss about it? You have a very odd definition of lucky."
He also wasn't interested in explaining his moodiness to her, or listening to her quite correct point that he was taking this entirely too seriously while simultaneously acting like a toddler.
"Would you like to know my definition of lucky? My definition is: a sister who can only be bothered to do something when it will make things worse, and yet is not given the slap she deserves for only taking an interest when it seems like she's not the perfect princess anymore. She's lucky her brother respects her as one of the People, and so will not raise his paw against her."
He met her eyes challengingly and growled low in his throat, directing his growl at another lion possibly for the very first time in his life. "We are done now, and if you follow me your luck will run out."

Atan was very hurt by her brother’s foul mood and was hurt by his words. Feeling tears fill her eyes, she snapped. “Fine! Act like a baby! Why should I care! Go mope all you want!” she shouted, flinging some dirt up at him. “I wish you weren’t my brother! I wish I wasn’t related to you! Don’t come near me again!” exploded Atan as she turned and ran away. She was upset, more upset then she can ever recall herself being.
Fine! If he wanted to act like that then why should she bother having anything to do with him! She had their father and other siblings, she didn’t need him! She didn’t need her so called brother! Atan was certain she could beat him if a fight occurred but…despite how upset she was with her brother she actually didn’t WANT to fight him. She just didn’t want anything to do with him right now. So she left, upset. Unsure if their relationship could be mended. Only time could tell.
