II Paradox II

The sun had barely risen over the woodlands and the forest’s floors were moist from the morning dew. The air was peaceful and there was a light gentle breeze that rustled through the trees from time to time. Fandango had no rush to get the day started and sprawled his talons and limbs out as he stretched out across the ground. He snorted and stirred up some dust with his nostrils as he rolled himself onto his side. The male was quite lazy especially when it came to mornings. He wasn’t the one to go out looking for adventure and instead let it come to him.

“Dango. Dango!” a peppy voice called out to him. The teenager yawned and retracted his wings back to his side. He opened his eyes and glanced down at a little dragonet poking him with a rather large lollipop. “Dango it’s time you’ve awakened from your slumber,” she told him. The male ignored the small dragon with a roll of his eyes and moved onto his other side. She squealed out as he almost crushed her underneath his frame. “WAKE UP!” she hollered and poked him one last night with her mighty candy.

“Males,” Coraline breathed deeply and shook her head. “Fine. Be lazy! I don’t care. I’ll be the one eating breakfast soon,” she snorted. The chubby young female stuck her head up and began to walk away from him. Her eyes looked around briefly and finally contemplated on going towards the eastern rivers where the prey was sure to be hiding. “Guess I’m on my own for now,” she spoke to herself quietly. She wasn’t sure how she would be able to bring down something that would satisfy her hunger and Fandango’s, but she pretty much was sure he wouldn’t catch anything. With another sigh she picked up her lollipop in her mouth and trailed after whatever it was she could eat.

Well, this was quite the predicament. Chevre knew this wasn't a city. She must've gotten herself into the wilds. For once, she wished she was a more well-behaved egg. Why yes, yes Chevre was an egg. She could hear and feel what was going on outside, and had hopes and dreams, many involving hatching at some point. However, since she felt she would be an egg for awhile longer, she made the best of it and rolled around wherever she wanted in the city, because face it-- who would hurt an innocent little dragon egg? However, as soon as she had rolled out of the city, she had come upon a hill and had soon been rolling quite quickly and out of her control. An animal had picked her up, and she had been quite sure that was going to be her end, but the animal itself had been forced to flee a greater predator, and had left Chevre to roll away from whatever it had been that had scared it away.

Now, she was stuck, out in the woodlands, with no way of survival if she finally managed to hatch, easy prey for any animal, and she was pretty sure that she was very far from any city. Great. She was doomed before she even got to see the world for herself. The egg shifted a bit, the dragon inside wondering what was next and if she'd ever be able to go back to the city. At least that was safer, and it was more likely someone would pick her up and put her somewhere warm.

Coraline was humming herself a little song when she came across an elderly male dragon whom’s pattern reminded her much like the wild peacock. She wasn’t alarmed to find him at the foothills of the mountains but it was almost shocking. This male wasn’t one to spend much time in the woodlands and usually stayed close to the Gallor gates. This was quite the rare meeting and Coraline took in the opportunity to stay hello and a few words. She picked up her gait and her plump body wriggled right towards him.

“Eko! Eko!” Coraline called out with a bright, cheerful grin on her lips. The only other time she got to see this male was whenever Fandango thought it would be best to return to Gallor. The aged male turned his head around and looked at Coraline hurrying towards him. The corner of his eyes wrinkled with age and his breathing a bit louder than usual. But nonetheless Eko was glad to see the dragonet.

“Why have you come here?” Coraline asked as she settled herself beside him. She looked up to him with bright, curious eyes. Eko remained silent for a brief moment and shifted his body. “I’ve been looking for something—well someone,” he finally answered as he glanced down at her.

“Who?” Coraline chirped out excitedly. Eko didn’t answer and lifted his gaze from the small dragon to look around. “She’s a bit small. Round ‘n oval,” he stated. Coraline cocked her head to the side as she looked at her friend. “Odd friend you have,” she muttered and jumped down from her little perch of a fallen thick branch. She began to look under the brush and picked up a few branches that were very stubby and thin. Eko too moved from his resting place and began to search for the one who had become lost.

Chevre was quickly becoming bored of the wild. The ground had an interesting texture, and there were different sounds, sure. But she was still bored. She wasn't even in a patch of sunlight. At least the sun would be warm. She decided to try find a patch of sunlight, and rolled. She wasn't sure of directions in these parts, either. She had become familiar with the city enough to know where she was going without needing eyes.

Rolling....rolling...rolling......stop. She must have gotten to an area that went uphill. She was rather dizzy now though, since she didn't need to see to be dizzy. The rolling sensation was what made her dizzy. Which she liked sometimes, and sometimes it was just plain inconvenient.

She felt movement nearby, but was too dizzy to discern whether it was friendly or unfriendly. Hopefully, it would be a dragon that would take her somewhere warm.... oh, hey, warmth.... She must've landed herself in some sunlight. Well, that took care of that. She hoped the movement would leave, now, because she did not want to be taken out of her sun.

“I’m not finding your friend that you speak of,” Coraline stated as she placed her lollipop on the ground beside her. She then waddled to a nearby bush and lifted up the low branches with the top of her head. “Maybe you’ve made a mistake,” she glanced back at the aged male who was frantically looking under the brush as well. “No one else is here. And besides, why would they be here?” Coraline asked. With a heavy sigh she pulled herself out from underneath the bush and moved back to her candy. She had thought that Eko had gone thinking that he had lost someone. Why was it his duty to find whomever was lost? She breathed heavily and shook her head as she looked at Eko.

Eko chuckled lowly as he glanced down at the small dragonet. “No patience,” he whispered underneath his breath as he moved his body away from her. He picked up a couple branches of low trees and bushes. He moved deeper into the woodlands. “The odd thing is that usually you’ll come across things when you’re not even looking for them,” he said. Coraline cocked her head to the side as she got up and followed. “But you are searching,” she stated matter-of-factly. Eko paused briefly as he looked at her. “Am I?” he asked though not really searching for an answer. Coraline just stared at him as though she were dumbfounded.

The male then lifted up a low branch of a large tree. Coraline waddled forwards and peered down to see a small dragon egg at the end of the small hill. A wide smile came across her lips as she looked down at it. Eko hadn’t gone mad! She giggled to herself and hurried down to the egg. “What’s it doing all the way out here?” she asked reaching out and gently nudging the egg. Eko moved his way down below and stood beside the egg and Coraline. “That’s what I’d like to know,” he said as he stretched his neck down towards the egg.

Chevre had a feeling the movement was going to be a dragon--or dragons-- finding her. Would they take her out of her sun? She didn't feel like getting out of her sun. The egg made a sudden movement, and began to roll again. Whoops. She hadn't meant to roll this time, as she wanted to stay in the sun. But, maybe it would keep the dragons from moving her from her sunlight, however unlikely that was.

“Whoa! Did you see that? It moved!” Coraline squeaked as the egg made a sudden movement and began to roll away. The young dragonet laughed as she chased after the egg and then lunged towards it with her forelegs spread out. “I got it! I got it!” she chirped out and gently brought her forelegs around the egg and pulled it close to her plump body. Coraline giggled as she brought her face closer towards the delicate shell. “What’s in it? Do you reckon it’s a dragon?” she asked as she examined the egg. Eko sighed deeply and rolled his eyes as he walked to Coraline and the egg. He nodded his head and lowered it towards their height. “Indeed,” he spoke softly as his eyes moved from Coraline to the egg. “Careful with that one. She’s more rambunctious than anything,” she said with a low chuckle.

Coraline giggled as she moved the egg to a nice moss bed. “Can I keep it?” she asked. “I promise to take care of it! And when it hatches I’ll spoil the thing dearly,” she said. Eko chuckled and shook his head. “No you cannot keep it,” he told her. Coraline sighed and shook her head with a roll of her eyes.

Eko lowered his body against the earth as he looked at the egg and wondered why it was out in the woodlands by itself.

Drat! She had been moved from her spot in the sun.... now something was surrounding the egg, talking about something. Chevre decided that sudden movements wouldn't work. She then felt herself getting moved.. oh, hey, what's that soft thing she was getting put on? Hmmm, was there sun...? Yes. This spot was perfect. She would not attempt to roll away again until she was bored of the warm, soft spot.

The egg shifted itself a bit to get into a more comfortable position before it became motionless again. As long as she wasn't moved from here, Chevre felt she could probably sit for a bit in the spot. Now, if only the voices would stop talking... there. Now, she could probably sit here for awhile.
