Last week I got a DSixl. I got Soul Silver and for the first time ever today I searched for a mystery gift. when I received the gift i was floored. I got that wish pokemon , jirachi (sp). I couldn't beleive it. but my question is , is this normal. I thought it was only available through special events. are there other pokemon such as deoxys or mew that can be obtained through mystery gifts? any info would be much appriciated.

like I said. never done a mystery gift before. and i was assuming that special events meant that you had to go to a pokemon store , video game store or con. my mistake.

It really depends on the event. Most events are location exclusives (Toys R' Us, Gamestop, etc) while others are released over the WFC. By chance, the Night Sky Jirachi currently being offered on the Wi-Fi until July 16th, is the exact same one that was previously released at Gamestop earlier in the year, so if you obtained it back then, you won't be able to download it now.

There was both event jirachi's one at gamestop and the other via nintendo wifi, they give some pokemon out at gamestop or other events and some via wifi. I have both gamestop and wifi event ones there's no real difference besides the obvious natures and stuff, oh and one says OT: Gamestop and the other OT: spcleventjune or something.

Curtis25 is there a website or anything with a schedual of special events for the wi-fi? Just type in wifi events and go from there. This guild has a stickied thread at the top of this section that also lets you know which ones are going on, like the jirachi one.
