Calico ran his tongue over his drying nose; licking away the remains of the warm liquid that had soaked into his tricoloured fur as he continued he lay in the suns full noon rays. Which, thankfully, despite the screen of leaves, that was raised up far above him by the many interlocking limbs of the tall forest trees, was giving him just enough light to allow him to enjoy his afternoon basking in their warm glow. He was taking his time being lazy, yes, but he had just finished his meal. His first decent one in--who knows how long, and was now enjoying the benefits of a full stomach and a warm sunny day. Besides, there wasn't much around here anyways, in the ways of anything interesting and he had no responsibilities to speak of. So why rush things? He thought, letting a content sigh escape his lips.
His lids were half closed and he was just about to doze off, when he caught a faint scent on the wind. Who it was he didn't know, but what is was, was a wolf. A female at that. Interesting. He hadn't thought there was anything in these particular parts of the woods, aside from rodents, birds and the occasional deer, but now there was this female lingering not too far off from where he was. Despite this, he remained sprawled. Though his eyes were wide open and his ears perked with interest.
He couldn't hear her, but he knew she was there. He wasn't even sure if she was aware of his own presence. Perhaps not. He was, after all, downwind from her. But it could also be the fact that he was laying there like a plump slug. Either way, he was now confronted with a decision. Would he continue to lay and sleep off his meal; ignoring the females presence entirely? Or, would he let his curiosity take control and guide him to this wolf? The decision took but a moment, as he rolled up onto his belly and gave a wide yawn. He could always nap later, that was true enough. But this wolf had piqued his curiosity and she wouldn't be there later, and now, he felt compelled to find her.
