What was once a great bustling metropolis now lies silent and desolate. Some catastrophe long forgotten left this place deserted. Signs are faded beyond recognition, and buildings have begun to crumble into dust. They still stand tall in the wind that whips up dust devils in the mute surrender to time. Streets are littered with rubble, and more than a few buildings are now crumbling piles of material. Time is now the only occupant, danger it's offering to visitors. Ocasionally, people pass through here trying to reach the lush ground on the other side, but most fall prey to the ghouls that scour the wastes.

It was eerily quiet. Not surprising due to the fact that ther was bearly any life in the ruins of the city. Most other cities had gone the same way leaving only the people in the far country to survive. Shaun was one of those people. For now, he was trudging through the mud that used to be a road. To the left, what used to be a shop, picked clean years ago. To the right, offices, now traps of weak floors with shattered pipes below them. behind him lay nothing but more wastes and mountalins after that. The real reason he was here lay far beyond what he could see. Lush farmland, rich with the slow stream of ash that blew in from the city. With near perfect weather, anything could be grown. At least that was what the rumours and radios would have you believe. Still, worth a shot. Keeping his trusty rifle in his hand, he trudged on, weary of another ghoul attack.

She crouched low in the shadows, waiting. Her somber brown eyes were narrowed in concentration, and her long brown hair was bound so as not to distract her. Sweat dripped down her temple, but she dared not move to wipe it. If she moved, she would give away her position, and then she would be dead.

A pack of ghouls stood at the entrance to the crumbling ruins of what used to be a building, feasting on some animal's flesh. They snarled and whined and bit at each other, intent on securing some food for themselves. They took no notice of the young girl cowering in the back corners of the building, though if they had, they'd find her a much tastier snack than the stringy animal-thing they had found.

She breathed slowly and silently, keeping her fear in check as she looked for possible exits. If the rumors were true, ghouls could smell fear a mile away, and she was not one to dismiss hearsay if it could save her life.

Spotting a tiny hole that led outside, she decided to make a go for it. If she moved silently enough, the ghouls wouldn't notice her, for a piece of wall stood between her escape and the monstrosities.

She slowly started to unfold herself, wincing as her legs cramped. But she pushed the discomfort aside and made for the exit, creeping slowly but quickly. She made it out the hole, relieved. But just as she stood to make a run for it, a ghoul leapt out at her from behind a pillar, his expression one of mind-consuming hunger.

Stifling a shriek, so not to attract the others' attention, she whipped out her knife and gutted the thing. The ghoul's eyes widened, almost comically, in surprise, too surprised to make a sound. She finished it off with a quick slice to its throat, and was off and weaving through the buildings before it had even hit the ground.

((Now, quick question. Are we open to mixing genres and being completely random or are we following the setting?))

A blonde teenage boy with glasses and a knapsack of books screamed like a girl as he saw the grotesque ghouls rushing toward him. "AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!" Unfortunately, his loud screaming only seemed to attract more, as more appeared on the scene rushing greedily toward his small figure. All of a sudden, a human hand clamped over the boy's mouth. ".....mmphphhphhhphh!"

Idiot! The hand belonged to the blonde boy's older brother, a six foot five inch dark brown haired teen with a stony face. His name was Brand Thorinagano, and his much shorter, wimpy skittish brother was Galavinthian Thorinagano. With no expression on his face, Brand used his other arm to grab Gal and drag him, running away from the lurching zombies. ...did you have to bring the books? "Quiet Gal, unless you want to die from those things."

"MmmmMmmmm!" the blonde nodded with a scared look on his face.

At this rate, using a gun probably didn't matter since Gal's screaming had already alerted a bunch of those creatures to the area. Brand's hand came off Gal's mouth as he reached for a gun.

"Wait, Brand! I have this acid that I invented. It's in my bag!" the blonde suggested.

The boy's brother grumbled something indistinct and kept running, pulling the yougner one. They couldn't keep running like this. While Brand could keep it up, Gal was a different story. If the ghouls could be challenged to a chess match and would go away if they lost, then Gal would be useful...but that wasn't the case here. ..maybe if he hurled the acid Gal had, it would distract the creatures long enough so they could get away.

((Talon, your character will probably see Gal and Brand running with more than a few things after them in the streets. Articx, you too.))

With a harsh throaty scream, several ghouls the he had seen up ahead lurched off to follow the prey that had been found by some of the others. Shaun had been on edge after hearing a scream that could have been from a young child or posibly a pitiful mutant dog. Either way, he decided to follow the set of ghouls to whatever was being hunted. As they were somewhat human looking, he had long ago decided that he wouldn't kill them unless it meant another person dying instead.

Following them over what was left of a small shop and through the ruins of another destroyed building, he spun back round the corner he had turned round. They had stopped for something. There! Just up and across a little. A person had made a break from one of the buildings and into the street.

Idiots. Don't go into the open, go up something steep. Still, with a young kid in tow, he was probably thinking more of what he could do. With a sigh, Shaun lifted his rifle into position. He had two rounds loaded into it, prepared for something that could easily be taken down for food. With a slight wobble to his aim, he looked at where the ghouls had gone. Their greying skin wasn't the easiest thing to pick out in the dust of the ruined city, but still he found the three he had tracked. With a sharp crack, the rifle bucked as he took down the first one, with a similar happening for the second. The third however just continued after the two boy as if nothing had happened to the other ones that had been chasing beside it. You're on your own for the last one kids. Skiding down the pile of dust and rubble, he chased after the kids himself, but at a much safer distance.

Log
Day 3 on Unknown Planet:
There are signs of life on this planet. Both friendly and hostile. All humanoid shaped. The friendly appear to be scared of me. The hostile seem to want to eat me. Ship still dysfunctional. Searching for parts to repair ship, but ship is beyond repair. Distress signal still not working. Must abandon ship to find another source of communication.

Kara stroked her bluish green hair and sighed as she walked along. Her hair was tied in a high ponytail and that ponytail swished around as she walked. It went down to the bottom of her back. She had long pointed ears and violet colored eyes and was five foot four inches tall. She was in her blue and gold She had a gun with two settings; one at stun level and another at a higher level. Too bad it jammed, and she couldn't fix it. So, she was left with her two traditional long bladed sais. She also had a bag of supplies with her.

Kara was a Galactic Guard, part of the peace keeping force that basically was the police force in inter planetary and galaxy world. She wasn't even supposed to on this planet, but she had crash landed. Her partner, her much more competent older brother, had stayed behind to ensure the completion of their past mission. Unfortunately, Kara had no means of communication. She didn't even know if this planet had the technological means to communicate that far. She was looking for that now.

The girl's magic wasn't completely working either, and she didn't know why. Maybe there was some sort of force on this planet that was causing it. She could still perform the minimal healing and boosts on stats, but not any major attack spells or anything else further than the basic level. That was a bummer since she did make use of magic frequently, and if she had magic, communication wouldn't be a problem.

Now, she was in some broken down metropolis that looked like it had been something big before dying. She hadn't seen anyone for a while and she really didn't know what direction she was headed to. This stuff looks too old to be useful... maybe there is some metal lying around. Suddenly, she heard a very weird scream. What's that? She took cover and peeked around the corner and saw a girl running. That doesn't sound right. The scream was farther away... "Hey wait!" Kara shouted after the girl and started running after her.

As she ran, Faraday spied several boys running ahead of her, ghouls lurching and moaning after them. The older one was pulling the younger one after him, and he looked pissed. She really couldn't blame him. As she ran, she decided that she should probably help him out. She wasn't usually a helpful person, but when it came to life-threatening situations, she was willing to make exceptions.

Faraday cut across the ruins of a building, aiming to take the shortcut to arrive in front of the two boys, when she heard gunshots. Her step faltered. Where had that come from? But as she resumed her run, she heard someone yell after her.

She slowed to look behind her. A girl with blue-green hair was running after her, her pointed ears sticking out from the ponytail on her head.

What the hell kind of coloring is that? Faraday wondered.

"What?" she shouted, skidding around the corner to come face to face with the two boys.

‘Grimm’ Ghoulish
Oh the Horror

Grimm crouched down inside the piles of rubble and general trash that remained after most of the occupants of the city moved, died, turned or whatever happened to them, he no longer cared. He had fashioned himself a sort of 'urban ghillie suit' out of bin bags, scraps, torn cloth, pieces of cans and what not allowing him to blend in more or less perfectly with the surrounding garbage.
Grimm was in fact a Ghoul and therefore stood a good foot taller than humans with grey skin and bright green eyes. His build was heavy with an almost animalistic look to his stance and elongated arms and dog like legs, showing he could run on all fours for an impressive speed gain. He was also naturally armed with some rather formidable claws and teeth, though unlike other Ghouls, he had managed to keep a hold of most of his human mind. Because of this he classed himself as a different species and in fact at one point there had been more like him, sadly they had succumb to insanity when they found out they were no longer 'human' Grimm on the other hand accepted his fate and made the most of it, he was stronger, had more stamina, a heightened sense of smell, hearing and taste and reduced sense of pain. It wasn't even all that big a deal being mostly alone as he wasn't all that social to begin with.
As two shots rang out into the air from a distance off Grimm watched two humans being chased down by Ghouls rush down an alley with his cat like eyes. Seconds later two of the Ghouls dropped dead from bullet wounds. Grabbing his rucksack of supplies Grimm set off at a jog towards one of the downed Ghouls his ghillie suit covering all of his body other than his face which was under a deep hood as well as a scarf
"Nope, nothing on them... Damn, sometimes they have something useful " He though as he around the body's remaining clothes. Finding nothing Grimm set back of at greater speed and mid run launched himself up the side of a building by digging his claws into the brick work and disappeared into a skylight.
Moving around the remnants of the building and out of sight Grimm watched the group dash down alleys away from the surviving Ghoul with what little light the dusk had left to offer.
"Hmm, there's only one. Are people still that weak?" Rummaging around in his bag, Grimm found what looked like a slice of raw steak wrapped in a salted cloth, putting the cloth into a different pouch along with his ghillie suit, he began to eat from his safe vantage point.

((Well here he is lol, I imagine him moving around kind of like the lickers from Resi if he's not upright lol))

The sharp sound of not one but two loud cracks and two thudded thumps made Brand turn back as he dragged his little brother along. Someone had helped them. Two of the three ghouls that had been madly dashing after the two brothers had fallen and, from the looks of it, wouldn't be getting up any time soon. If luck was with them, the ghouls would never get up. As it happened, neither Brand nor Gal believed in luck.

Meanwhile, Gal was trying to carefully fumble in his bag for the acid he had mentioned a few seconds ago. He found it, but he lost his grasp on it when Brand abruptly stopped to avoid crashing into the brown haired girl that had just suddenly appeared from behind the corner of a building. "Ah, the acid! Brand!"

Without saying a word, Brand caught the small vial and faced Faraday, clearly wondering why the girl had stepped out into the open. Obviously, she had picked a bad time. To top it off, there was another ...girl running toward them from behind Faraday. This one looked awfully strange. She didn't seem hostile, but Brand had never seen any one with that color hair or ears. What is that? Half mutated?

"Umm, shouldn't we keep running? It's catching up!" Gal said frantically as he looked behind him and saw the ghoul leering with its tongue lolling out.

Brand frowned. So...ghoul and potential half ghoul. Clearly, it was better to take down the ghoul first, and it was closing fast. Gal, you'd better be right. The older brother flung the small vial at the ghoul, hitting it smack in the forehead, where the vial cracked.

The ghoul seemed undeterred, but after a moment, it started to melt as the vil's contents started to dribble down its face. Too close for comfort, the ghoul collapsed in back of Gal nearly within arm's reach of the blonde child, who would have screamed if Brand hadn't clamped a hand over the boy's mouth.

"We should take cover," Brand said to Gal and Faraday. "Introductions later." He reached for his gun and cocked it at the bluish green haired creature coming their way.

As she skidded to a halt, Faraday nearly fell over in surprise as the two boys suddenly loomed in front of her. As it was, she barely had time to register the fact that there was another ghoul chasing the pair when the older one threw something at the ghoul, which, surprisingly, caused it to melt, of all things. She covered her mouth and nose with a hand, gagging on the smell of melting ghoul.

Oh, heavens, what was that? she thought, her eyes smarting. The ghoul crashlanded right in front of the smaller one, who looked scared out of his wits. The older one covered the boy's mouth, to prevent him from screaming, she supposed. If he screamed one more time (she figured it was the spineless little boy in front of her that had screamed earlier), Faraday couldn't promise her knife would stay out of his pretty little neck.

"We should take cover. Introductions later," the older one said to Faraday. He then proceeded to aim his gun at the alien thing running after her.

"Wait, what makes you think she's a threat, and I'm not?" Faraday asked quizically, whipping out her knife. She pointed it at him. "Hm?"

‘Grimm’ Ghoulish
Ooops :3

Grimm watched them carefully, they all looked rather careless... Hopefully they would drop something useful sooner or later. The young boys had already displayed some rather ingenious tactics by using acid to disable the remaining Ghoul, something Grimm hadn't seen before.
"Hmm, I wondered what else they have in that backpack. Oh? Interesting..." He said to himself as they seemed to turn on each other. Deciding he now had no use for it as the boy's bag might contain far better items Grimm sat down the Ghoul's corpse on top of the crumbling wall he was stood next to. It would only slow him down, and he needed a better view again anyway, they had moved when the knife was drawn. He packed up the Ghillie suit properly and stuck it into the rucksack, it wasn't needed unless he was on lower ground. He tensed his legs in preparation before launching himself through the air and across the alleys to the nest buildings and more or less directly above the people below. But, as he left the first building some of the brickwork gave way, which was to be expected as most of the buildings were beyond repair or just rubble. The falling brickwork wasn't a problem though, it always happened these days, what was the problem was the Ghoul carcase that also hurtled to the ground from its resting place on the wall. For one, normal Ghouls didn't climb much, at least not to that height, and two, it was already dead...
"Ahh! Damn... That could hurt my chances." He whispered as the corpse met the ground between the group and the green haired woman with a dull crunching splat of a meaty thud.
PostPosted: Wed Jul 14, 2010 3:56 pm

Kara charged after the brown haired girl, BUT as the girl yelled "What?," she turned the corner. The elfy looking Galactic Guard sighed and ran after her aroudn the corner only to see something melting and then someone pointing a gun at her and the brown haired girl playing with a knife. Kara heard the last part of Faraday's question. I'm a threat? Wait, the inhabitants here seem to think I'm strange. Maybe that's why. She stopped and held her arms up to show that she didn't have any weapons in her hand. "I'm not here to hurt anyone. Just looking for information."

It could have gone well, except bricks started falling and a dead ghoul zombie thing splattered in front of her. Kara blinked. EW! She didn't scream, but that wasn't what she expected to happen. Her eyes grew wide as she took a step back, but instinct told her to look up. So, she did.

((Uh, too many "and's" in that sentence... sweatdrop Can we see Grim?))

Brand's face was rather expressionless when Faraday suddenly whipped out a knife and pointed it at him. Was that supposed to be a rhetorical question? His little brother saved him the trouble of answering though, but the response wasn't exactly what Brand was hoping for.

"Oh, is that a new species? Look at the ears and the color of the hair! It seems to show more signs of intelligence than these ghouls!" Gal blurted. "Can we look?" The younger brother peeked out from behind Brand and somehow, in his interest of the new creature/person, completely missed that Faraday was pointing a nice at them.

Then, the blue green haired thing caught up and... apparently spoke their language and claimed that she was harmless. "Information?" Gal asked. "What about information about you? Where do you come from?" He started rambling.

Brand was about to knock his brother out. Genius kid he might be, but there were times when his outbursts weren't appropriate. However, the sudden brick falling and smattering of a ghoul corpse against the ground was enough to shut Gal up...albeit Brand slammed a hand over his brother's mouth before any potential scream sounded.

Not good. Cover first. Brand's eyebrow twitched as he cut in. "Ok, look, girl. I'm Brand. He's Gal. You're holding a knife. Weird colored one is there. We should get going."

Faraday stared at the boy- Brand- with a slightly amused expression. He seemed sorta pissed, sorta peeved, and sorta protective all at the same time. Quite an amazing feat, really. The little boy, Gal, was funnier though, since he was so interested in the alien girl and was, apparently, a screamer, if his brother's hand over his mouth was any indication. She would have screamed when the ghoul corpse (kind of redundant, but anyway) came crashing down, but she didn't like to be taken by surprise, so Faraday stifled any exclamations that might have burst from her.

She inclined her head slightly in concurrence to Brand's suggestion. Turning to the alien, Faraday beckoned for her to come with them.

"Yeah, well, that'll have to wait, sugar," Faraday said dryly. "Big bro over here wants to talk elsewhere." She waggled her eyebrows. "Better keep that belt tight." Stifling a snicker, Faraday gingerly stepped over the bits of ghoul and, out of curiosity, glanced at the surrounding buildings' rooftops. Her curiosity was rewarded when she glimpsed a shadow moving rather quickly over the roofs, almost too fast and sneaky for her to track. She set her mouth in a frown and stored the information away for later use before making to follow the two brothers.
