It was a still and quiet evening at Trine Weyr. The sun had set a few hours ago, and most people were indoors and readying themselves either for sleep or for the next day. Most people.

"Where are you going, you silly flitter," Gabriel half asked, half complained as she followed her small green outside to the lake-shore. The darkly-hued female was near impossible to see in the dark, but she frequently circled back around to make sure her human could see her before continuing onward. It wasn't until the pair had reached the water's edge that the green indicated they had reached their destination. "Ok... We're at the lake. And?"

Mossy gave a chirrup of happiness and satisfaction at having managed to get her human to follow her this far. Now to let her in on the surprise! Eyes glowing bright blue in the darkness, the green firelizard went into an aerial spin before diving gracefully into the water. Swim time!

"... Swimming. Seriously? At this hour?" The teen couldn't help a small laugh in spite of herself. "You are one very strange flitter, Mossy."

The flat stone skipped across the surface of the water several times before it sunk with a small splunk, and he paused long enough to watch it sink. It wasn't that uncommon for Saekagi to spend a little time lingering away from others, though he had to admit he really should have been in bed. He was certainly tired enough. It didn't come that close to the firelizard, but he stopped short of throwing a second stone when he realized that he wasn't seeing things as the ripples of her passage spread outward, and he glanced over in surprise toward Gabriel at the sound of her voice.

He remembered seeing her shortly after he'd arrived, and he felt a little guilty being outside when he probably shouldn't have been, wondering ridiculously for a moment if she were out looking for him. He almost even responded that he wasn't swimming, just throwing stones, then realized she was talking to the swimming firelizard, and was glad it was too dark for her to see him blushing.

"Gabriel?" He asked in surprise. "What are you doing out at this hour?"

Gabriel looked over at Saekagi in equal surprise at the sound of the male voice addressing her, but the look of surprise quickly changed to a pleased grin. "Heya, Stranger! I'm just out here because apparently my flit wants me to go swimming with her." She jerked her thumb off to the side to indicate the little green who was still swimming around merrily. "What are you doing out so late? Proceeding on with some spy work after all?" She was only teasing of course, although, given all of the recent business with Benden, Ista joining in the mix might only serve to officially drive Alumanth and Brakiath off the edge. Along with pretty much the rest of the Weyr.

"I just didn't want to run into any of the Healers." he admitted. "All the new ones that have come in..." He tugged at his hair as he wandered over to stand near her, flushing further and drooping his head, although he knew she was teasing about him being a spy. "I don't know if any of them are from Ista." he admitted. "I haven't checked." he admitted, glancing back at the swimming flit. "I sure picked a great time to get here didn't I?" He laughed quietly. "...I'm avoiding them, I admit. I didn't want to run into anyone from Ista." He added, as though this wasn't fairly obvious. "...It's such a mess in there now, I don't want to be the spark that sets off a wildfire."

Tempers were as easy to set off as dry grass in the hearth, and who could blame them. The queens were on edge, the riders were on edge....

"... Dude, I was kidding," Gabriel replied, jabbing him in the side of the rib. "And I'm pretty sure all of the Healers and such here are from Benden. Ugh, this is such a mess." She sighed and shook her head, running a hand briefly through her hair. "They have us all running around like a herd of wherries being chased by a dragon or something. Barely even have time to stop for meals. As if we need more Northern stalkers keeping watch of the eggs." She chuckled slightly as she thought of his earlier remark on timing. "Well, hey, at least you don't get to miss out on any of the action, right? Maybe you can use your super-spy skills to help solve the mystery of why Benden is flooding us with shardin Healers. ... At least the riders don't seem to have acclimated to our climate yet. Hehe." For some reason their complaints of the heat amused her greatly. What a bunch of pansies they all were...

"I...Ooph! I know!" He raised his hands to protect his ribs from a second nudge, though one didn't come. "I'm wondering what the hatching will be like. What do you think they want to know? Do you think it means they're having more trouble clutching than they want to admit?"

It seemed a logical question, but then, maybe there were things he didn't know about getting a clutch on the sand, let alone two, that he just wasn't in a position to know, let alone guess about. Surely they couldn't be here to try and sabotage the clutch? No one would do -that- intentionally would they? But really... he continued his earlier train of thought out loud, breaking out of a brief frown of deep thought as he chewed his lip and then spoke. "...Something must be... I don't know. It's just a feeling, but I wonder if they're not getting as many hatched dragons as they need, if their queens are producing more duds than we know about. They may be starting to worry about their numbers, so if that was the case, and I really don't know, maybe that's why they've got all manner of healers here peering at the eggs. They might be trying to figure out how to do it for themselves. But I've never been to Benden, or seen one of their clutches. I really don't know. I mean they could be here to jeopardize the clutch on purpose for all I know."

He was a little afraid for the touching, with the crimson whispered to be so agitated. What if it ended up not being -safe- to have a touching? What then? What if they ended up needing so many healers because so many were injured by frightened dragons?

He did flash a crooked smile at her laugh at their expense. He'd gotten more accustomed to the heat at Ista, but it had been pretty clear there were plenty of new arrivals that hadn't. A few times you'd been able to smell them coming, no matter how often they bathed. "I bet some of them could be followed down the halls. Just watch for the puddles in their path." He joked, still fidgeting, as he twisted a few strands of hair in his fingers. "Do you think it will all go alright?"

"If it is the numbers thing then they wouldn't be having any problems if they would just give the Atypicals a chance," she said with a huff. "That's their own fault. Staring at our clutches all day long won't change a thing." Gabriel certainly wasn't very happy about all of these stress that these intruders were putting on the mothers either. Dragons already had it hard enough watching protectively over their clutches, but not even giving them a moment's peace in the matter was just plain cruel. "And if they were to in some way sabotage the clutch... Well, let's just say I don't think any of them would make it back to Benden." The entire Weyr would be after their heads in such a scenario. Purposefully harming the dragons like that would be an inexcusable act.

She had to laugh at his puddle comment. "Yeah, that sounds about right. I'm surprised none of them have become dehydrated yet." Suddenly a small and very wet firelizard appeared on her shoulder, chirruping in greeting. "Ack, Mossy!" the teen complained. "Lovely. Now I shall be as wet as the Benden folk." The green crooned, and Gabriel rolled her eyes and pet the flits head. "Ah, Sae, I don't suppose you've met my flit? This here is Mossy. Mossy, say hello to Saekagi."

She trilled a hello before fluttering over to his shoulder next to greet him more closely. Of course, she still wasn't exactly dry yet.

"Maybe they're not sure if they'd do something correctly?" He shrugged, helplessly. "I wish I had the slightest idea. My spy training didn't cover sweaty healers."
Another lopsided smile followed this thin joke, though it was only a short one, with so much at stake on the sands.

The appearance of the firelizard made him give a short, surprised laugh though, although he leaned away from the green in surprise as she fluttered wetly over to his shoulder.
"Mossy is a good name, Moss likes wet places too." He noted, blinking at the small creature in the dimmer light.

"Aha! So you admit to being a spy!" Gabriel exclaimed, grinning as she pointed an accusatory finger his way. "Into the punishment hut with you!" She had entirely too much fun with this running joke.

Mossy was upset the boy wouldn't let her land on him, and she chattered in agitation as she fluttered about.

"Oh come here, you silly girl," the teen remarked, extending her arm for the green to land on. "If you would dry off first then you could sit on whomever you wanted." Firelizards were usually a touch eccentric, but hers honestly seemed to be such an oddity. Like even wanting to come out this late for a swim was a prime example. "Sorry about that. She can be a bit fussy at times."

"Well with all these clumsy healers running around, someone was bound to give me away." he joked, ducking his head and grinning, enjoying the jest but somewhat shy of the attention still.
"Don't worry about it, I'm sorry if I upset her. I...don't keep flits."

To be perfectly honest most of his experiences with them had been... well... large in part annoying, with one or two exceptions. Most of the ones he remembered from Ista were usually owned by candidates, and most of those had been poorly trained at best, and were mostly well fed pests.

"Aw, don't be that way. Honestly, she's just fussy sometimes," Gabriel insisted, petting the flit who had finally settled on her arm. "Catch us during the day sometime again and I'm sure she'll be a lot less cranky. If we ever get enough free time to even speak anyway," she added in wryly. "Sheesh, and I thought our schedules were busy before. They're practically running us ragged now." The teen let out something akin to a mix between a small huff and a sigh. "I can't wait for the Hatching. Healers or no Healers, I think this will be our Turn." And if not, then oh well. Simply meant more waiting, annoying as that was. Someday Hers would find her, of that much she was sure.

"I hope you're right." Saekagi put a hand up to the side of his face and winced at the memory. "...I don't want to go back to the Weaver hall like this..."

Was that stupid sounding, he wondered? It was true anyway. "I don't know if there's enough Klah in the entire countryside for all of us though, not as ragged as they're running us." He stifled a yawn, covering his mouth with the back of his hand. "...Sorry." He apologized, both for not being particularly fond of flits, though this one seemed better than some he'd encountered, and for the yawn. "They make me nervous though, all the Healers. There's so many it's like they expect thread to start falling in the hatching sands, and that's if they don't confuse the hatchlings into mauling someone."

He finally admitted to his earlier apprehensions out loud, perhaps hoping that saying it out loud would dismiss his apprehensions, make them sound silly when exposed to air.

Unfortunately it didn't do much, and he went back to nervously tugging at a few strands of hair.

"That would be rather unpleasant," Gabriel agreed, grimacing at the thought of a mauling taking place. "Well, I suppose we'll just have to work extra hard to be cool, calm, and confident to counter-act the confusion and negativity." The teen grinned. The plan was simplistic, yes, but it seemed just simple enough to possibly work. "Shards, we'll definitely be needing more klah though. Some extra sleep probably wouldn't hurt us either." Gabriel made no comments on his earlier remark about returning as he currently was, for to her that worry was too silly to even bother addressing. He was a nice guys who had done something stupid and learned his lesson. End of story. No reason to harp on it. "Should we start heading back to the barracks? They're likely to have us up at the crack of dawn you know."

"Cool and calm?" He shook his head and held up his hands. "Well... I'll ask you in advance to help them find all the bits when I fail." He mocked his own lack of composure with a grim smile. "I suppose you're right though, we should get back."

"Oh you," she said, punching him lightly in the ribs again. "Knock it off, silly. You'll do fine. Alright, off to the barracks then! See if we can't get ourselves any sleep before they run us about the Weyr again." Someway or another, Gabriel was determined to cure this boy of his pessimism. Might take Turns, but hey, he'd be light-hearted yet!
