I've noticed that most band couples usually play different instruments than each other. Two of my best friends, both flute players, each dated a guy for a long time that didn't play flute and played something else. And I play clarinet, yet the guy I have this thing going on with plays trumpet. And he's really the only trumpet player I hang out with. All my other friends play either clarinet or flute, and then I have 1 trombone friend and a few percussion friends.
So just wondering, is it like that in your bands too? Different instrument-players dating each other? You'd think that a clarinet player would date another clarinet player, a sax player with another sax player, etc, but I don't know any band couples that play the same instrument. I think its interesting =3

I've seen same instrument couples before, but a lot more different instrument couples. Makes sense though, if you think about it.

I've also seen a lot of drummers dating wind players, and wind plays start playing percussion during the indoor season, if that counts. xD

I wouldn't date in my section. The only girl, while pretty and amazing, and I wouldn't go together.
I go for mellos and clarinets, because the girls at my school who play them are cute and smart.
Plus, my girlfriend was asst. band captain.

There's only been a couple inter-section relationships. My sophomore year, there was a flute-flute relationship, and this passed year there was a clarinet-clarinet relationship. The rest are mostly mixed section relationships.

I've been dating a tuba player for nearly two years, and I'm a flute player. :]

It's really rare for couples to bloom from the same instrument in my band ... it's happened before, but it doesn't really last long. I'm a tuba player and my boyfriend plays alto sax and we've been together for nearly 3 years. Then my best friend plays clarinet and her boyfriend plays trombone.

Also, a kind of funny thing is that most of the guy tubas that have been through the section since I've been there have either dated a flute player or had a crush on one. It's strange. And then us girl tubas tend to like saxes. A girl who used to play tuba at our school dated a tenor sax player for a while.

... Now that I think about it, we tend to ignore ages as well. It's rare for us to stay within our grade, even though I do. But whatever.

Hey, I'm dating a percussionist and I'm a percussionist. Our percussionists are pretty mixed though; there's 5 boys and me. One boy is a jock, one boy is a total perv, one boy is amazing and funny but dating someone already, one boy is shy, and the last boy is amazing, nice, sweet, smart, and really funny; the guy I'm dating lol
So, the percussionists kinda go in a wide range around the band since each one is different.

Yeah we ignore ages too haha. The drum major was a senior, and she dated a freshman trumpet player this year, everyone called her a cougar. And I was a junior this year while the guy I liked was a freshman, and everyone called me a cougar too.
Thanks for your feedback everyone, it's interesting 3nodding I've been trying to think of a same-instrument couple ever since I posted this thread, but still haven't thought of one! Haha. The closest I got was a flute girl dating a clarinet guy, which are obviously not the same instrument, but in my opinion flute players and clarinet players are similar. I'm a clarinet player, and almost all my friends play either clarinet or flute. 3nodding

Its terrible in my school. And grade wise. We had quite a few freshman dating juniors.

WEll, I think its because intersection goes under fast. Because of technical band stuff can interfere. Whereas dating out, you don't compete for chairs, or feel like the other one sucks.

Lol. Well that's weird cuz it's like the opposite with my band, we only date other band people, and guys only date other band people or dancers. We don't do that purposely or anything, it just always works out like that. There are very few people in my band who have a bf or gf that isn't in band or a dancer. I've never had a crush on someone who isn't in band, lol.

Awww that's adorable!! You shouldn't be too freaked out by it, you should be more appreciative of it I say razz Because my band isn't like that at all...there are different groups (and I'm not talking about instrumental groups), and the different groups don't get along. There's a lot of people in my band who don't like each other. In fact, the guy I liked this year wasn't really a part of my group of friends, and all my friends were all like, "We all hate him, don't go out with him!" A lot of people didn't like him, and all for stupid reasons. I could only think of 1 of my friends who had a good reason for disliking him. And I think a lot of his friends didn't like me. Our band just has people problems I guess =P
